I love Sutter Terrace I got a filling done by Dr. Sethi and felt absolutely nothing! Not even the numbing part!! He's an amazing Doctor

I have been a patient of Dr Rae Whitten since before she was at Sutter Terrace. And she has been there a real long time now. I myself moved to Hawai'i 15 years ago, but my husband and I get back to Sac often enough we scheduleroutine checkups and cleanings with her office. I think she has competently performed every possible dental procedure between the both of us. I'm talking fillings, crowns, bridges (I am old school and declined implant in my upper row due to sinus situation), but hubby real happy with his implant, and root canal.. Oh yeah, alsopainless extraction. We are in our 70's so we have been through almost everything dental. She has a true calling as a dentist. She will answer every question you might have and she completely explains your dental options of any particular dental situation. She listens carefully. She is the first dentist I ever had who paid a lot of attention to whether my new tooth colored crown matched the shade of my uncrowned teeth (Also recognition of the collabrative relationship and contribution of her assistant Elena (hope I spelled your name right, E)) We share a connection because she was raised in Hawai'i, and besides living there for 15 years, I spent 2 years of my youth there. If you know anything about the Aloha Spirit, you will see Dr Whitten practices dentistry with aloha. There is a reason she was Valedictorian of her class way back when. Finally, after one of those X-rays that shows not only your teeth but also part of your neck and your carotid arteries, she told the hubby (who she knew had heart issues) that the X-ray was possibly concerning about about a circulatory issue and she sent it to his cardiologist,since he had an upcoming routine appointment. It turned out not to be a problem, but the cardiologist said, "You have a great dentist. This was a great catch in terms of checking it out medically." I rarely post yelp reviews about anything. But Dr Whitten is the first one I want to recognize as a great dentist. Hey, nobody wants to go to the dentist, But if ya gotta go, there is no better dentist than Dr Whitten in my opinion. I was going to another dental office for the past 5 years and decided to change dental offices once it took months to schedule an appointment for a cleaning. I was referred to this office through a friend and I am glad that I made the change! I called to schedule an appointment and I was able to schedule an appointment within weeks. There was a cancellation and an appointment was available and I was able to be seen days later! When I arrived I was greeted by the friendly staff and everybody seemed professional. The waiting room had plenty of seating and magazines to keep you occupied. Rose helped me out and she was professional and welcoming! My appointment was with Dr. Sethi and he explained things to me in detail during the consultation. I have never been that informed during my dental visits and it was nice to have a dental treatment plan. Stay away, please!!!! This is an assembly line for $$$ - not dental care. This comes not by single episode, but well established from multiple happenings. When a dentist works on the same tooth and collects good $$ twice, but the x- ray clearly shows that he did not fill the root canal completely, and it gets terribly infected just in short time - it tells about dentist. ****Also, injecting WRONG medication when it was clearly listed as ALLERGY and there was reaction but the doctor and the assistant got scarred and disappeared from the room trying to cover up mistake - speaks very loud. The patient called the family asking for help. Later, not the doctor but the assistant shows up asking the client who was dizzy and throwing up to go to the waiting room. The family took patient to ER. The office is good for not providing what the charge would be upfront, like " we did physical today" but in reality, the dentist just happened to pick in in for a minute and ran away without saying much, so it happened too be a "surprise physical" and extra $80 cash. read more

One of the staff that usually helps me with appointments retired in December of 2021. I had to reschedule an appt. in March & April. I received an email and a call from Krista Corbitt after sending a message about not being able to make an appointment. I replied to her email and also left a voicemail for her. I tried calling today as well. Seems to me that she will not return my calls nor respond to my emails. I spoke with Alley today and she is sending my dental records to me as I have chosen to have another dental group serve my needs. I don't like the dentist. I mean to the point where I get crippling anxiety. That being said, I haven't been in a few years because of the hatred. I finally got some decent insurance and decided it was time to get myself to go! This place was highly recommended to me and I'm so glad it was! Dr. Whitten was so welcoming! She didn't make me feel ashamed for not having been to the dentist in so long, and she did everything to make me feel as comfortable as possible! I have been going to Sutter Terrace since it was Dr. Quinley's practice on 21st Street. I am a chicken-sh*t and Dr. Quinley always managed to make fillings as pain free and un-scary as possible. Several years ago he retired, and Dr. Elizabeth took over his practice, and she is just as wonderful. I broke two front teeth in an accident and went in to see her and within an hour she fabricated temporary front teeth with a plate that matched my teeth exactly. I eventually got implants and she did a great job with those as well. Today was my first time having fillings in a long time and I was SO stressed. I told her when I got there and she was so patient and careful and I experienced ZERO pain - not with the shots, not with the drilling - nothing. She is fantastic. read more

Not for kids. I took my daughter to Dr. Cantrell and saw him myself. I could stand his arrogant gruff manner, but certainly my 5 yr old could not. He was her first dentist and she was completely traumatized. He didn't want me in the room with her (I said too bad), he barked orders, and he was extremely impatient when she was scared. She would be trying so hard to be still, with tears streaming down her face, and he still would be short, unconcerned, and "busy". I wouldn't have left a bad review, thinking well the dentist just sucks for kids, they will get over it. Except today I took my daughter to see Dr. Wong at Kidsmiles in San Francisco. I cannot tell you how night and day the difference was. My daughter left the office smiling and happy. He and his staff were truly caring and kid oriented. I was in complete awe at the difference. My daugher even told them, "I'm not scared of you!" If you have a kid, don't use this dentist. Use a dentist that specializes in children. Sutter does not. read more

Dr. Chris Cantrell is the man! I went to this dentist on a recommendation from my brother. I was terrified. I am one of those people who cower at the thought of that dentist chair. The drilling, the x-rays, the cleanings... oh the horror! Dr. Cantrell could immediately pickup on my chickenness, which is okay. I openly admit my fear of dentists. I hadn't been to a dentist in 2 years ( I know, I know). It was finally enough. I didn't have any toothaches or anything like that; I just figured it was time to go in. Dr. Cantrell and his entire staff (including the reception staff) were so empathetic to my fear and they were all so nice! Anytime he was drilling or excavating he just told me to raise my hand and he would stop. Haha, I raised my hand about every 5 minutes. He would stop, and kindly ask if everything was okay. I would tell him that I think I could feel the drill, and that I may need more Novocain. It certainly added extra time to my appointments, but he was very accepting of it, and could not have been more sympathetic and nice. It took 3 visits for me to get caught up for the 2 years of neglect. I look back now and am SO glad I went to him. I have had some pretty bad dentists in the past, you know, the ones who refuse to acknowledge that you may be in pain. Dr. Cantrell is not one of those dentists. Also, waited so long to call me back that I would have had to go through the whole foam fitting process again. They wouldn't budge on the cost, so I didn't do it. I haven't been back since. Ever since I knocked my tooth out at the age of 5, I have hated, loathed, and even refused to go the dentist on one or two occasions ... much to my mother's horror as she has worked in the dental field all of my life. Enter Sutter Terrace Dental Group. From almost the moment you walk in, you are surrounded by warm, helpful, kind and professional people. The office is state-of-the-art with great new techie gizmos like a mouth camera so you can see that cute little black hole in your tooth and the silver filling you almost forgot about. They are running a well-greased machine, but I mean this in the best possible way. You do not feel like you got caught in a cog. They explain everything to you, sometimes even twice when you start to get a little panicky over things like -- say ... the thought of having all four wisdom teeth removed. (Which, by the way, they don't do, but refer out.) During my cleaning and fillings sessions the doctor and hygienist were practically tip toeing through tulips in my mouth. In other words, no pain. Virtually no discomfort. In fact, I almost went to sleep during my, ahem third filling. And ... they are thorough!! Also, a little tip: if you plan on having your mouth open for any lengthy period of time, just ask for a tooth pillow. It saves your muscles from having to do the work. Everyone is always so well informed and pleasant to be around. The dentist really takes the time to tell me what's going on and what I need to do to have a healthy smile. I appreciate the efficiency of the operation and the convenience of the care. However, I would encourage clients to question any invasive procedures that Dr. Cantrell recommends. Insist that he explain the justification for the procedure and discuss any less invasive alternatives. A second opinion might be a good idea. read more

Let me start of with saying I did not want to blast this group because I really liked their staff and their help with trying to finance, however: I came in with my twins and myself- I was quoted as having 5 cavities, my daughter 3 and my son 13. When they came back with the bill my jaw hit the floor. I understand they are a "Premiere dentistry" which means Delta does not pick up as much, but the bill was close to $3000 after my insurance paid. I opted to get a second opinion. I want to add that the staff was really courteous upon my request and getting my records transferred. The result from the other dentist (however further from me- in Elk Grove): 2 for my daughter, 5 for my son and "0" for me in cavities and only 408.00 out of pocket. I feel a lil bad about writing this review but at the same time I really did not feel right about not writing this review. If not anything, get a second opinion. What a great Dentist Office! Dr. Sahil Sethi is an amazing Dentist! It had been a while since I had been to a dentist & was nervous about going in but I was having a toothache & knew it was time to go in. A friend highly recommended I go see Dr. Sethi at Sutter Terrace, so I made an appointment to get checked out. I can not say enough good things about my experience here. The receptionist was nice and friendly & made a good first impression. Dr. Sethi's assistant, Marcy, was super sweet and made me feel very comfortable while explaining about the x-rays & getting me set up. Dr. Sethi & Marcy are wonderful team that are incredibly skillful and so good at their work. He took photos of all my teeth, which was a little strange to me at first but made complete sense when he started explaining everything that was going on with my teeth. He was so thorough, carefully explaining where problem areas were by referencing the x-rays and photos and going through what needed to be taken care of right away and what we needed to keep an eye on. He had such a gentle, yet sure and steady hand & was really good at making sure that I was comfortable and ok throughout the procedure. also, they do the whole spectrum of dental/mouth needs there, it's like your one-stop-dental-stop :) I highly recommend Dr. Sethi, I am so glad to have found such a talented, thorough and trustworthy dentist! read more

This is a top of the line Dental Practice. Dr. Sethi, Rose, Marcie & staff are extremely friendly, professional and subject matter experts in their niche. Dr. Sethi is the brightest dentist I've ever seen, and has done great work on both me and members of my family. My father was in from out of town and was going to have to fly back because the pain from his root canal was so bad- I called Rose and they took him the next morning and did a three hour invasive root canal. I'm not a big fan of going to the dentist... well, who is? However, Dr. Sethi did a superb job on my new crown. He is confident and very talented. He also replaced some old fillings and on both occasions I was able to relax because of his personality and knowing how good he is. If I hadn't moved on San Diego he would have been my dentist forever. I also highly recommend Penny as your hygienist. She does a great job!! Sutter Terrace Dental Group is a group of about 5 doctors that run this office. Before finding out about this dental group. I have had a horrible experience with dentists, one nearly killed me. I came across Dr. Feder. Really friendly and knowledgeable about his "craft". He was able to fix what the previous dentists couldn't. I Have been extremely happy with my teeth and his staff. Came here to see Dr. Sethi to get my wisdom teeth pulled, not a very fun procedure to do. He numbed me up pretty good, couldn't feel a thing but could hear all the grinding and pulling he had to do. I met Dr. Whitten for a free orthodontic consult. She answered all my questions and was very thorough and professional. Her practice doesn't normally give out discounts but she offered me 10% student discount . The price for Invisalign was still in the range of 5k, but she was so pleasant that I decided that it was worth it! BTW, the office is beautiful, there's free parking, and they have the nicest and most accomodating staff. I highly recommend this place. read more

I have been going here for over 10 years. The staff has always been professional and friendly, I've watched how they interact with other patients, and I've never observed any rude behavior. I have referred friends and family here and they've always been pleased - and I don't recommend places, especially ones with sharp stabbing implements, unless I TRUST them! I currently see Dr. Whitten and she is competent and calm, two highly desirable traits in my need for a crown and other dental work. Awesome staff and dentist! The staff from the receptionist to the medical staff is a pleasure to deal with. They are all courteous and professional. I had work done on my teeth by Dr. Sethi for the first time. Dr. Sethi came highly recommended from friends that go to him for dental work. Dr. Sethi has a great personality and explains what he is going to do prior to doing it. Dr. Sethi went into detail what my condition of my teeth were in, but also told me what needed work and what didn't. I have several teeth that are okay and don't require work. These are the same teeth my prior dentist would always want to do work on. I felt my prior dentist was just trying to overcharge me for work that didn't need to be done. Please be aware that they do not get prior auths each time nor check insurances. I am stuck with a $900 bill because they FAILED to check my insurance. What dental office checks insurance every 2 years???? this does not make any sense, insurances change often and you would think they would update insurances at least once a year. They talked me into getting a crown replaced because I had double coverage and advised me my out of pocket would be only $1, a month later I recieved a bill for $900. If they spent the extra time and updated every patients insurance at least once a year or before any work is done this would of been prevented. I voiced my concerns and frustration to the office manager and was told at the end its my responsibility. I will no longer he a patient here. There are several reviews on here with similar issues. you would think the office would want to prevent loosing patients and resolve the billing issues. I will make a complant to the insurance about this dental group as well. read more

I went here for an exam. Granted I know I have work to be done, but not as much as the doctor said was needed. I was told to apply for Care Credit because I had two teeth that needed to be crowned, and my out of pocket would be $1700.00. That would also eat up my dental coverage for the year since they charge $1300.00 per crown. I found an excellent dentist that is in network and is not out to become rich! My review is for two reasons 1) for their receptionist rose who I have known since I was a kid and 2) for the practice as a whole, both of which are terrible to encounter. I have lived out of state for the past 5 years and I am in the process of moving again so I wanted to get a quick teeth cleaning. Let's start with addressing number 1) The woman refused to schedule me an appointment that would work for me just because the doctor wasn't it. I am now on a wait list for a day and time that doesn't even work with my schedule. Keep in mind this is a teeth cleaning. I realize that I haven't been here in quite awhile I have been seeing another dentist in San Diego. In addition to this in all of the years I have been seeing dr whitten I think I have only seen her once ever. Which brings me to 3) the fact that rose had to remind me that dr whitten was a female shows how little contact you have with the dentists here. Really disappointed That being said my mother does love this place and swears by it. (Which is the only reason I gave if 2 stars) My experience here has just been terrible. I am revising my post because I just found it that one of the receptionists called my mother after seeing my post and tried to "encourage my mother to discipline me and have me take down my review" I didn't know that a Yelp review mattered. read more
