Food was great! Loved every morsel, I had some issues with the cleanliness of the place though, the floors were damp and dirty, the bathroom was gross. Also there was a 15% service fee for a party of 2? Unexplained in the check and if you miss it, you will end up giving them DOUBLE tip. They even have the tip calculation amounts on the bottom of the check. SUPER shady and there is absolutely no reason to be charging a table of 2 a service fee on top of their meals. I guess using industry standards are not of concern here. Never been to a restaurant that does that for a small table and then has the nerve to put tip suggestions at the bottom of the check requesting more money. Customers should definitely watch out for that. read more

The Okra soup was very good. The Egusi soup lacked flavor. I don't understand how this place is called Suya joint but they don't give you authentic Suya. No tomatoes or onion on the side....no Suya seasoning on the meat. Ordered the Suya appetizer and it came out at the end of the meal. I would only come Back for Okra. read more

This is my first time at this restaurant. I'm a visitor from NY. First impressions were okay: 1) location and parking easy to find; 2) interior is clean and nice by African restaurants standards; 3) service is so-so. I went there on a Saturday afternoon around 3pm for a take out. When I entered it took several minutes to get the attention of the 2 waitresses there. The place was not busy but for its size, it seems understaffed to me. Both of them kept saying, I'll be right there with you but I still have to wait some time for one of them to actually take my order. The food itself was good. The suya was very good and authentic. If you have children be warned that the service is super slow. Food is good however from the time we sat to when we were served was 45 minutes. Never served our drinks. Never got the napkins we asked for and had to ask for the bill three times before we got it. Waitress was at the bar on her phone. Never checked on us until we had to ask for the bill to leave. You get charged a 20% service/tip charge automatically on your bill so there is no incentive to provide good service. Even with take out a man stood waiting for 40 mins. I came here with 3 friends for the first time a few days ago. I ordered jollof rice, suya wings and okra soup. We were told the wait for the food would be long, but it wasn't at all! Food was delicious and portions were very big. For one of my meals the menu said it came with plantains, but then we were told that we should've asked for plantains if we wanted them and were charged full price...that was the only negative for the night :) read more

As promised in my previous post that my family would revisit and give Suya joint another try. We went to Suya on New Year's Eve it was our twins birthday so we decided to go to Suya joint since our children wanted a good meal before church service and why not? Well I must say we were highly pleased with the service from start to finish the waitstaff were attentive and we were hoping the food would be just as good if not better. We ordered the Egusi soup, Ogbono soup, rice n stew, molokhia stew aka ewedu with goat meat (pics attached) to feast your eyes:). we'll all I have to say was yum! This place is soo good. This is actually my first time trying African food so I personally don't have anything to compare it to. But all my African friends raved about this place. I got the jollof rice with goat and plantains and it was amazing. The rice was so moist, so seasoned. I love it. The goat was very tender and juicy and they give enough sauce so nothing dries out. The plantains were really good, super sweet. They charge gratuity beforehand for more than 4 people I think, which is fine. BIG fan of the Taushe Stew, which rivals the best meal I had while in Sierra Leone. It's labeled as vegetarian, but it might also be vegan? Our server was so patient and helpful. The portion of Egusi and Fufu was enough for two. Really good food with prompt service. Suya Joint has a large and varied menu. We enjoyed Vegetable Soup with Pounded Yam. For a starter we ordered the Suya platter which was Ok in retrospect because the remainder of the meal was so delicious. We shared a platter of spiced Snapper with Moyin Moyin. My girl has raved about this place and I've never eaten here, so I decide to give it a try. I placed an online order. To be picked up at 7pm. I arrive a little after that, the order isn't ready. I wait patiently for 10min only to find out the order wasn't even started yet. It was a big order, without it my evening plans for entertaining would have been thwarted. Almost an hour later I finally walk out with my food. The ladies at the front are kind enough to try and appease me - the only reason I didn't walk out. I don't even know yet if it's tasty but the lack of professionalism in not being able to rely on my people to have things ready when they should be is disappointing and in this moment infuriating. So I thought if the service is this awful the food must be great.... nahhhhhhhhh the pounded yam was spoilt literally spoil. The egusi soup was watery and so was the palm butter sauce not to mention they both did not taste good. Definitely not authentic. Drove all the way from NH to Boston to get food from there and was super disappointed when I tasted the food. Bought about $130 worth of takeaway and not a single one of them was good. The oxtail pepper soup was ok but the egusi soup, okra, pan butter, jollof, oxtail pepper soup (the pepper soup was not that bad after adding pepper and maggi) were all plain old nasty. Maybe they were having a bad day who knows. Was definitely a waste of $$$$$. I do not recommend at all. Oh the jollof was bland. They literally dumped steamed goat meat on top of the jollof. Even my colleagues who I bought food for hated it. As far as the Service... first of the menu is very misleading, ordering was a task felt like I was begging for my good. Crappy customer service. I mean, I'm not even mad; I suppose I deserve the bad treatment for choosing to patronize the business of my fellow countrymen. I came in with a friend and we did not get a menu until 30 MINUTES LATER. I had to literally wave a waiter to get us one, while other patrons (most of them Caucasian, but I mean, they are stereotypically known to tip really well, so they deserve VIP service while we 'regular' Africans don't, right? Hahaha) that came in after us were already been given menus, had their orders taken, and their foods coming out already! So yes, he finally brings us a menu, and proceeds to disappear, while we patiently wait for another 15 TO 20 MINUTES, before I and my friend decided to preserve whatever dignity left in us and leave the establishment. But hey it's all good, them white folks deserve better customer service than us right? I mean, losing two customers like me and my friend won't hurt the business. So yeah, it's all good. I'm writing this review pretty much right after being there - it was a bad experience and I want to warn other people. My Nigerian friend wanted us to check out a Nigerian place to change things up. I'm always down to try out different foods, so I was pretty excited to go. Food was decent. The suya was pretty flavorful and really good. The stockfish was SUPER SPICY (to me) - the spiciness stayed in my mouth for a good several minutes. I think the kind of pepper in Nigerian cuisine brings out a different kind of spicy than the kind I'm used to. I ended up not eating most of it. I got egusi stew with goat and farina fufu. It was interesting. Though it was strange eating food without chewing, I enjoyed trying something new. My Nigerian friend didn't like the way they made their food, but I'm not an expert on that. The real problem was the service. I don't know why, but the waitress treated us badly from near the start. Maybe because we were a group of college students. I've never been disrespectful at a restaurant, and I always give 20% tips, but I guess there's some kind of stereotype. I'll expand on the details. We asked for more water, and the waitress said sure and took the little jug. She never came back with water. We asked another waitress who was walking by and she also said sure. Then she went over to the bar and just started chatting with people instead. After it had been a good 30 minutes since we had first asked for more water, one of my friends was fed up and just walked over to the bar and ended up bringing water back to the table herself. My friend had ordered a palm wine from the menu - $6. Apparently they had run out of the small $6 ones and only had large $12 bottles left - so they gave her a $12 bottle without telling her beforehand, and just added that to the receipt. What? Why would you do that without telling her? Before that, one of my other friends asked what the wine's alcoholic content was, so the waitress grabbed the bottle and looked at it for a good minute. She told us "probably 5-6%?" Then she changed her mind and said "actually I think that one is non-alcoholic." The one who had ordered it told her that she had wanted the alcoholic one. The waitress said "oopsies" and walked away. She came back a few minutes later and said "actually that one is 40%." That was a BLATANT lie. None of us could even feel anything from drinking it. I don't know what the waitress was thinking. The worst thing is that while she was neglecting us, we could hear her doing everything she could for the old white couple next to us. She sat down and spent time going over things with them and making sure they were enjoying themselves. It was a stark contrast to how she treated us. Whenever she came by us and asked if we needed anything, if we actually asked for something her smile would drop and she'd give us side-eye as she walked away. I don't even know what to think of her behavior - it was beyond me why she'd be rude to us when we didn't do anything to her. The last thing I had a problem with was the automatic gratuity. It was my mistake for not noticing it until my friend mentioned it later on, and for tipping on top of it when I signed - but encouraging double tipping is slimy behavior at a restaurant IMO. Maybe she added it on because she was afraid we weren't going to tip after how she treated us. I'm not that kind of person, and I had wanted to get out of there ASAP, so I sadly fell into the double-tipping trap. It'll teach me to look harder at my receipts. She didn't give me a copy of the receipt, and didn't ask if I wanted one before she walked away. She didn't say thank you or anything polite. When she came back to the register and saw we were still there (we were waiting on Lyft), she looked at us and said "bye," as if to tell us that she wanted us to leave. I was thrilled to leave and I will never come back. tl;dr - Honestly I suggest staying clear of this place, but if you go anyway... Don't be surprised if you get inattentive servers, especially if you're a college student who doesn't fit in. Look closely at the receipt to avoid double-tipping.
