I came here on a late Sunday. There were only a few ppl seated. 1. No soap in the bathroom and I like to wash my hands before I eat. There was an empty soap dispenser on the wall and then an empty soap bottle on the sink. The water was freezing cold. 2. My server was nice. I asked a lot of questions and she took her time with suggesting some items off the menu. She gave me a sample of egusi and I decided to go with that along with fufu. Listen- I read about egusi and fufu in all of my Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche novels. I sit and drool on the pages and I wanted a turn to try this delicious sounding food. I also see Micheal Blackson with his head in peanut soup, slopping it up with fufu and, like I said, I needed to try it. 3. My LTEP got the jollof rice and a meat sampler. I did not like the jollof rice. The flavors were overwhelming. It seemed a bit dry- I think I needed some gravy, peanut sauce or beans or something to balance it out. I wish ppl would take more pictures when doing reviews because the menu does not clearly illustrate each dish. I'd like to see what I'm about to eat. He did not like the meats. They were "caked up" with some type of seasoning that maybe we just arent used to. Not bad tho. I liked the meat pie. Those were tasty little treats. The sampler comes with 1 Beef Suya, 1 Chicken Suya, 1 Meat Pie, 1 Moi-Moi ... 14.00 They are slabs of meat on teryaki sticks and miniature patties. Pricey?! 4. The egusi was ok. A small portion for $14. Isnt this ground melon seeds? Why is that expensive? I didnt think it was worth it. I asked for a saucy dish so that I could soak the fufu up (like how they do) and I dont think there was enough sauce in my dish. I asked for beef in my stew and the meat was not tender. I had to cut into it with a knife. Anyways- I am glad I got to cross this off my list. Not sure if I will come again. read more

Food was great! Loved every morsel, I had some issues with the cleanliness of the place though, the floors were damp and dirty, the bathroom was gross. Also there was a 15% service fee for a party of 2? Unexplained in the check and if you miss it, you will end up giving them DOUBLE tip. They even have the tip calculation amounts on the bottom of the check. SUPER shady and there is absolutely no reason to be charging a table of 2 a service fee on top of their meals. I guess using industry standards are not of concern here. Never been to a restaurant that does that for a small table and then has the nerve to put tip suggestions at the bottom of the check requesting more money. Customers should definitely watch out for that. read more

The Okra soup was very good. The Egusi soup lacked flavor. I don't understand how this place is called Suya joint but they don't give you authentic Suya. No tomatoes or onion on the side....no Suya seasoning on the meat. Ordered the Suya appetizer and it came out at the end of the meal. I would only come Back for Okra. read more

This is my first time at this restaurant. I'm a visitor from NY. First impressions were okay: 1) location and parking easy to find; 2) interior is clean and nice by African restaurants standards; 3) service is so-so. I went there on a Saturday afternoon around 3pm for a take out. When I entered it took several minutes to get the attention of the 2 waitresses there. The place was not busy but for its size, it seems understaffed to me. Both of them kept saying, I'll be right there with you but I still have to wait some time for one of them to actually take my order. The food itself was good. The suya was very good and authentic. If you have children be warned that the service is super slow. Food is good however from the time we sat to when we were served was 45 minutes. Never served our drinks. Never got the napkins we asked for and had to ask for the bill three times before we got it. Waitress was at the bar on her phone. Never checked on us until we had to ask for the bill to leave. You get charged a 20% service/tip charge automatically on your bill so there is no incentive to provide good service. Even with take out a man stood waiting for 40 mins. We went to Suya on New Year's Eve it was our twins birthday so we decided to go to Suya joint since our children wanted a good meal before church service and why not? Well I must say we were highly pleased with the service from start to finish the waitstaff were attentive and we were hoping the food would be just as good if not better. We ordered the Egusi soup, Ogbono soup, rice n stew, molokhia stew aka ewedu with goat meat (pics attached) to feast your eyes:). we'll all I have to say was yum! I came here with 3 friends for the first time a few days ago. I ordered jollof rice, suya wings and okra soup. We were told the wait for the food would be long, but it wasn't at all! Food was delicious and portions were very big. This place is soo good. This is actually my first time trying African food so I personally don't have anything to compare it to. But all my African friends raved about this place. I got the jollof rice with goat and plantains and it was amazing. The rice was so moist, so seasoned. I love it. The goat was very tender and juicy and they give enough sauce so nothing dries out. The plantains were really good, super sweet. They charge gratuity beforehand for more than 4 people I think, which is fine. BIG fan of the Taushe Stew, which rivals the best meal I had while in Sierra Leone. It's labeled as vegetarian, but it might also be vegan? Our server was so patient and helpful. The portion of Egusi and Fufu was enough for two. Really good food with prompt service. Suya Joint has a large and varied menu. We enjoyed Vegetable Soup with Pounded Yam. For a starter we ordered the Suya platter which was Ok in retrospect because the remainder of the meal was so delicious. We shared a platter of spiced Snapper with Moyin Moyin. Let me be clear, the food at Suya Joint is good but extortion is downright nasty. This establishement's slimy business practices is exhausting to deal with and not worth a plate of rice and chicken, on any night. Let me explain: I went to Suya last night, hungry and looking forward to a spice plate of Jollof. I asked for extra gravy on my rice given that Jollaf is of dry consistency. When I received my bill there was a $5.00 charge for gravy or what the waitress referred to as "stew". Excuse me? $5 additional bucks for a red gravy sauce? When I brought the matter up she said that it's their practice to charge extra for "stew". Great, do that but when a customer asks for extra gravy on the rice make them aware that your intention is to call it something different and charging the HELL out of it. Come on guys-maybe an extra dollar for gravy but be clear and not sneaky. $5 dollars? No. Next issue which I believe is illegal: Adding tip/gratuity to parties OF 2. When you get your printed reciept -which they will try NOT to give so that you won't notice- you'll see that they add a 15% gratuity to the bill. Now, we know it's customary to have gratuity added to larger parties but isn't it illegal to add it to parties of 2?!! I typically leave nothing less than 20% but why be underhanded about it by adding and then requesting additional gratuity fees through Apple pay? Geesh. We were pretty dissapointed at the server's response which was basically to try and shame us for questioning their practices and lack of transparency. I won't be back. When I get a Jollof jones, I'll have to go to Safari for take out and save myself the hassle. read more

It is evident that the number of staff is not adequate for the demand for the food making delays slow. Usually though after you place you order, the food comes back quickly. My girl has raved about this place and I've never eaten here, so I decide to give it a try. I placed an online order. To be picked up at 7pm. I arrive a little after that, the order isn't ready. I wait patiently for 10min only to find out the order wasn't even started yet. It was a big order, without it my evening plans for entertaining would have been thwarted. Almost an hour later I finally walk out with my food. The ladies at the front are kind enough to try and appease me - the only reason I didn't walk out. I don't even know yet if it's tasty but the lack of professionalism in not being able to rely on my people to have things ready when they should be is disappointing and in this moment infuriating.
