Our toddler had a broken tooth while we were on vacation - we were very lucky to find Dr Grady. She managed to fit us in for same day care and she was so gentle and warm. She explained every part of the procedure and gave us a thorough choice of treatment options and follow-ups for care. Even the baby was happy by the end of the visit. I really can't say enough how wonderful her patient manner. We were in the kind of frazzled and scared condition where would have paid any amount - Dr Grady's fees are *incredibly* reasonable and she even included a follow up exam at no cost. I worked at Open sesame for about 3 months before i had no other choice but to resign. Grady is the most inconsistent and rudest person i have ever came across, She haves a attitude about ANYTHING and EVERYONE. I was originally interviewed for a front receptionist job but later was offered to be her dental assistant regarding not having no dental experience what so ever but now I understand why. She would catch a attitude when asked a question or when i just didn't know what to do , I was also basically working 3 positions from front desk to dealing with the patients insurance and also being her dental assistant that felt more like her personal dummy. She also was very inconsistent with payroll, I had waited a whole MONTH to receive my first paycheck and was also inconsistent with all the payments after. My daughter has been a patient of Dr. Grady's since she was 5. Dr. Grady makes sure that my daughter is always comfortable during the procedures and explains the steps she will be taking very clearly to the parents and the patient. The practice was also very flexible to accommodate us in an emergency situation to ensure that my daughter was pain free. Thoroughly unprofessional practice. Stay far away, especially if you're out of network. 1. We ended up waiting for more than an hour past our appointment time. This can happen sometimes, especially with kids, who may not always be cooperative, but the rest of the experience with this practice was terrible too, suggesting their entire setup is messed up. 2. The practice was out of network, but my insurer confirmed that my son's treatments were fully covered at "normal and customary" levels for the area. The front office insisted that this wasn't enough and that they needed specific coverage amounts confirmed by the insurance company. Without this I would need to pay the entire amount out of pocket and they would submit the claim on my behalf and refund me later. Since the bill was over $600 I had to pay by credit card, which they charge a 3.5% fee for (yes, in 2019 they pass on credit card fees to consumers). They put my card details on file with a promise to refund the amount onto my card once the claim came through. They had the check back from my insurer in less than 30 days from the appointment, however I got my money back on the card more than 10 weeks *after* that, and needed weeks of calling and emailing them. Then too they refused to refund the credit card fees they charged initially. 3. It turned out after multiple follow-ups that they never put my card details on file in spite of making me run the card through the machine again just for this purpose and making me sign a form for this too. They apparently printed a check to refund me, which I had explicitly said at the time of the appointment that this would not work for me. I was traveling out of NYC the next day and would not return for 2+ months, and did not have a reliable place for the check to be sent to while away. So they sat on the check, claiming they did not have an address on file to send it to. Yet they made zero attempt to contact me by phone or email about this (both active during the time we were traveling). It instead took many weeks of painful, time-wasting follow-up before they put the money back on my credit card. They then had the audicity to tell me that they don't normally do this and this was offered to me as a "courtesy". Astonishing how badly run and patient-unfriendly this practice is. Save yourselves a whole lot of frustration and money and go elsewhere with your child. read more

It's our second time to visit this dentistry. Will never come back. The experience was so terrible. Wait for 20 mins while the dentist came and indicated that her hand was broken. So the assistant will do the cleaning for my 3 year old. The assistant is inexperienced and spent only 5 mins on cleaning. No exam no floss. Only thing she did was brush the teeth. read more

1. I scheduled my son's first visit during the pandemic, which I understand is challenging for many businesses. When we arrived, no one was at the reception. We arrived on time and we waited 15 minutes until someone came out to greet us. Dr. Grady/staff had forgotten to send me the link to fill out insurance for her system (I had already filled it out elsewhere). I filled it out upon arrival. Dr. Grady saw my son - did a 5-minute exam with no cleaning, only fluoride. Then, took him for X-rays. During that time she was also seeing three other patients. She had someone on staff, but brushed her aside saying she was doing the wrong thing. I'm not sure if she was a new staff member, but it seemed difficult for Dr. Grady to manage all of her patients and she seemed short-staffed. 2. At the end of the visit, I was charged a new patient fee along with some other charges which totaled, I think, around $160. (My first visit to my dentist was free.) I received a bill in the mail later that said I owed close to $300. I found out that Dr. Grady had made a mistake and charged my son's visit in my name. She said she would fix it in the system and re-file the claim, and that I didn't owe anything. Two months later I received another bill for around $200. I also found out that we were charged for additional x-rays. I have since followed up with my insurance company as well. I called again several times, left messages, and emailed. No one returned my messages. I called again and finally was able to speak to someone on the phone. They said they would take care of it. I am not sure if they did, but I haven't received another bill-- thankfully! 3. I decided to switch dentists for my son because I didn't feel comfortable with Dr. Grady's service or the handling of my insurance (she was in-network by the way). I called for the past week and a half every day, left messages, tried the texting on the website, and emailed to retrieve my son's record. I received no response. I tried again --when the office is closed (I wasn't aware of this), and finally got through to Dr. Grady. Honestly, I'm not sure how to describe what happened -- other than, she must be under a lot of stress in her personal life. I requested the records and she continuously yelled at me in the phone. I'm baffled by her unprofessionalism. I hope that she is able to shut down her business for a while, rest, take a mental break, and start again with positivity! She seems like she could be a really great person, but I'm not sure if she is currently mentally or emotionally fit to be running her own business right now. The pandemic has been hard for all of us and our families. I wish her the best of luck and I hope that she adheres more to the details of her business and conducts herself in a more professional manner from now-on. read more

Dr. Grady has been my 8 year old daughter's dentist since she had her first tooth and I was overall ok with the practice... until we had a nightmare experience on our last visit about a year ago. After years taking my insurance, Dr. Grady stopped being in-network and failed to inform me, to charge me in full for the visit. At our visit, the office even asked if I still had that insurance and I confirmed! NO MENTION OF ANY CHANGE WAS MADE, until I received a very high bill. I asked to lower the bill to what my out-of-network refund would be, but there was NO FLEXIBILITY on Dr. Grady's side. We exchanged several letters until I received a notice that she'll resort to a collection attorney. Of course we sign a disclaimer when we enter the medical facility, so legally I may even be forced to pay that ridiculous bill, but I find it a very poor way to deal with a regular patient. My son has been seeing Dr. Grady for 7 years now. He has always been a sensitive boy with a quick 'soulful' cry. Dr. Grady has always worked with him to calm him and understand him. After having 2 cavites filled at the age of 4 , I returned him to school where he told his friends - ' you don't want to get a cavity because then you miss recess'. I never heard a complaint about brushing and flossing after that! Now that he is in braces he is also diligent with his flossing and quick to ask for help becuse he understands the need for clean teeth nightly. My husband, son and I had a very unfortunate experience at Open Sesame Dentistry yesterday. I don't usually write reviews but I feel compelled to write this one, especially for parents who have kids that are apprehensive or scared of visiting the dentist. Dr. Grady's dental assistant was great at putting our son at ease. When Dr. Grady came in she didn't ask how we were, or engage in any conversation about our son, his dental health, how many times he brushes etc. She told us to lay our son down on the chair; he began crying and resisting. I said "let's tell Dr. Grady how well you brush your teeth and floss." Our son started crying as my husband and I made him lie down, then Dr. Grady began to inspect his teeth as he was putting up a fight. He was crying and his nose was running. She had us continue to hold him down, and was holding his head/jaw while she asked her assistants to hand her things. In the 10-15 minutes that our son was being made to lie flat Dr. Grady at first tried to distract him but then started saying to him that he was making it harder on himself and doing this to himself. At one point I asked if he was choking and she released her grip and said he was just fighting it. She hardly had a chance to check his teeth or clean them. Our son had snot everywhere and bit his lip (that bled a little ) in the process. After we finished she was clearly flustered and told us we need to take back control of his mouth. We said we are really good about brushing his teeth and flossing and she said that next time he would have to take X-rays, that if he couldn't tolerate a check up he is not going to be able to do X-rays. After telling her again that he is OK with us brushing his teeth twice a day and we actually brush it really well she said we should try brushing his teeth lying down. At one point we said he was very apprehensive of being at the dentist and she said it is because he thinks 'I am the pediatrician' with my gloves and he thinks about immunizations. Our son loves our pediatrician and her making that comment seemed both unnecessary and misplaced. Our post-check-up conversation lasted about three minutes. Dr. Grady was not very engaging or reassuring but seemed annoyed. We left to gather our things from the waiting room and left without the Dr. saying anything more to us, not even a bye. We understand it can be a challenge to do dental work on a 3.5 year old who is clearly very upset and won't have any of it but as pediatric dentist we expect her to handle the situation with more pose and not make comments that assume that our pediatrician is the reason he is scared of the dentist or that it is because we have to take back control of his mouth. In the least since our insurance only allows us to do a check-up once every 6 months we think that since Dr. Grady wasn't able to clean, brush, or check for cavities that she would have asked us to take a 15 minute break and she would try again. We now have to wait another 6 months to have a check-up but our insurance was billed for a service that wasn't provided. I don't write reviews like this on a whim or take it lightly. I am sure Dr. Grady is great with kids/parents who are amicable to being at the dentist but if your child is apprehensive or likely to cry/not lie still/put up a fight when pinned down we don't recommend this practice at all. read more

Dr Suz has been a very gentle and kind dentist to both my daughters for the past few years. We have been fortunate that we have not had many cavities, but she does a lot of preventive care for the kids and everything is done with a smile. You should check on what treatments are covered by insurance, but so far, we haven't had any major issues. read more

We had gone to a different well respected dentist on the UWS and they were very rough with our Toddler. Dr Grady was AMAZING, she spent an extraordinary amount of time with our son, explaining everything, making him feel comfortable. We were there for over an hour and she never made us feel rushed or pressured. I have never written a review for anything on yelp before, but feel compelled to write this one. I took my daughter to Dr Grady because the dr's website says she is good with children that have anxiety, and my daughter has anxiety about going to the dentist. When we arrived early, the assistant asked me to fill out a packet of forms. I did, and then i asked a few minutes later if the dr was free to see my daughter because she was getting anxious. The assistant said she had to input all the forms first. I asked 2 more times to see the dr, as 10 minutes went by and my daughter was getting more and more anxious. And then Dr Grady finally came out and in an annoyed tone, asked "what do you want me to do? she is a new patient and i need to review her forms". I said, "I would like you to help my daughter". When she saw she was crying, she said, "are you really 9 years old?" in a scolding tone. She was the opposite of kind and helpful. My daughter walked out of the office. I called to set up a time to speak with the dr, and they never called me back. I would hate to see this happen to any other anxious child, so I would not recommend Dr Grady. read more

It is SO rare in NYC to find such incredible dentristry combined with such sensitivity to the needs of young children. Hello Moms..we all know how hard is to find dentist for our kids..I went through many good and bed experiance when comes to my kids dental health. Let me tell you quick story aboit dr.Grady...last year was not that great for us ans we had to move out of the city..day before our move in all that hectic and getting kids ready to say bye to school and frienda my five years old had tooth ache ..great I neesed that right then. I called open Sesame office to find out that dr.GRady had a flu and she wasn't there for few days.i I panicked. .my little girl is in pain and next day we are out of the city what to do and where to go. Searching on internet for dentists I always check reviews..I was shocked to find out there are dentist who restraine kids on the chair in the area where I am going..I start crying I didnt know what to do..then a phone rings and on the other side was dr Grady ...what a relief just talk to her at that moment..I could hear how sick she was she hardly could talk and she imediatly told me to give her few minutes she will make few phone calls and call me back. It was half an hour she called me told me to take my little frightened girl to the dentist in an hour and on top of it she spoke with other dentist near the area that I was supposed to move and explained her my situation and they will be expecting us..come on people we all know when you are sick with the flu we cant move out of bed and she did this for us. My four year didn't have a great experience with her previous dentist where she didn't want to return to a dentist office ever. When I heard about Open sesame Dentistry from a good friend of ours, I was told that Dr.Grady had a way with kids that can have a child have a change of thoughts about a dentist office. As my little girl approach the office door she was welcome by a sweet front desk employee, who introduced herself and cheered my baby girl into the office. The staff were extremely nice to my daughter and they made her feel so comfortable that she was rooming along with them with trust. When she met Dr.Grady she was comfortably in her chair and Dr.Grady began talking to her and they had a long conversation !! The Bond was amazing!!!!
