This dentist's office is run like a business and not a healthcare provider. I stopped going to Park South Dentistry because after a checkup they moved me into a financial coordinator's office. I was told, "This is the insurance money that you have left. With that money we can do some elective procedures like caps or braces." I never went back. Today, at least three years later, I received an SMS text from them saying that I owe 56 dollars. The link leads to a credit card entry form. When I press the "look at bill" button, it gives me a pdf that won't open. On top of that, they texted me during COVID when their office is closed and there is no one answering their phone. They are hoping that people will just pay the money. Shame on you Park South Dental. Use this dentist office at your own financial risk.

Dr. Lustbader changed my half a million dollar smile , into $1 million smile.

And most recently I've had Invisalign 2x. The Invisalign worsened my bite by narrowing it and dropping my top lip down and lopsided. A family dentist also "buffed" my two front teeth down and crooked because I had a minor chip, and it made my cross-bite even more apparent. This has bothered me for years. I avoided smiling in pictures. I knew immediately when I saw that Dr. Apa could aesthetically and functionally fix a cross-bite that I needed to know more and set up a consult. I wish I had seen it sooner and not wasted my time and money with retainers. I'm from Philly. It's not that far to have the best dentists in the world work on your smile. There is a parking garage right across the street. Five visits and you're done: Consult, prep for temporaries, go back to adjust the temporaries to your and the Dr's liking, install day, and go back the next day to check on everything. It really is a seamless process. They thought of every detail to make you as comfortable as possible. I opted for laughing gas. Initially I filled out a preference questionnaire. All of his team from the front of the office to the ceramists play a huge part in how exceptional your experience will be. Dr. Apa went above and beyond and exceeded my expectations. I love my results. I cried tears of joy because I am so grateful to him and his whole team for fixing my bite, smile and improving my asymmetry. Hands down, these are legit the nicest people I have ever met. They truly care. The whole process went smoothly from consultation until I had my final onlays installed. Dr. Apa eased all of my fears and concerns of ruining my actual teeth. I was terrified of having little stumps for teeth. He reassured me that is not the case. My teeth look exactly the same underneath. The doctors called to check up on me throughout the process. Everything is done in the labs on premises. They provided me with custom night guards with the temps and a new one with my permanent onlays. All of the doctors and assistants consult on your case so they know every little detail that is going on. I was concerned about sensitivity too and was fortunate not to experience any. If I did, they had that covered too with a prescription on hand in case I needed it. Everything was covered from A to Z from the moment I walked in the door. It was concierge-style service. Dr. Apa and his team gave me the teeth I should have been born with. They look so natural and are a better version of my teeth. It was the best decision I have ever made. My only regret is not doing it sooner. Do your research. It really is worth going to the best in the world.

When we started going to Lumia dental, we were extremely pleased with how friendly and competent…read morethey were. It was an added bonus that this was a female owned and run company (of which alas they are still way too few nowadays). Their patient care is excellent and as far as any dental work is concerned, I would highly recommend them. However, as their business grew and expanded, I was starting to worry about what this would mean for their patients. My worries did eventually come true: from a patient based practice, it turned more into a corporate business, and with it, the desire/need for higher profits. As a result, they decided to no longer accept our insurance (Guardian dental, a major dental insurance company) because, according to them, their low fee schedule did not allow them to provide the best care for their patients. Now, that latter is just rethoric, for they were doing an excellent job. Why would that need to stop? No, it was because Guardians fee schedule did not make them enough profit. The way it works is as follows: a dental practice can determine its own fees for various procedures. An insurance company, through collective bargaining, can then negotiate for a reduced schedule for their clients (depending on the local competition). So, accepting an insurance first and foremost means to agree to the collectively bargained fees. While getting less profit, it means a much larger potential client base. This is the power of collective bargaining (which would be so much more effective if health care in the US would be universal, like it is in many other countries and, as a result, also much affordable). For Lumia, however, loyalty to their patients was not deemed as important as getting more profit (perhaps because of the increased costs of having expanded the business) and so they dropped Guardian as one of the accepted insurances. To give one example: our insurance pays the full fee for a cleaning every 4 months. However, they now raised their fee for a cleaning, making us having to pay more than $100 for something that was previously free. And you can guess that with more involved procedures, the out-of-pocket costs gets up even higher. That is why we had to leave Lumia as clients---essentially being pushed out as not being affluent enough clients that do not mind paying much more than they used to---and we now found an equally competent dental clinic in the neighborhood which does accept our insurance. I can only assume that we will not be the only patients leaving the practice, and in the long run, this might seriously damage Lumia (unless they can find enough wealthy clients in the downtown area).
