This is a small deal - run mainly by two different farmers and is fruit and veggie-centric with, of course, lots of cider doughnuts. Today I picked up corn, white peaches, brandywine heirloom tomatoes (red and yellow) and a little basket of gorgeous orange sungold tomatoes. If you haven't had these little orbs of goodness, you must try them. They're delicious when bathed in olive oil then gently grilled and sprinkled with sea salt. Meredith's Bread, a family-run organic, natural bakery from Kingston, NY also has a stand here. So, plan for a picnic - pick up a couple of tomatoes, some peaches or pears and some baked goods and hang out in Prospect Park for a few hours. Enjoy!

Prices here seem reasonable (I'm not sure of the market rate so what the heck am I even saying that for, except to lengthen this review because yelp is a wise arse always in my business talking about "write more"). It could be kept cleaner but I'm OCD with cleanliness so don't mind that thought. My overall rating is a strong 4 for No. 1 Fish Market/ Utica Fish Market The End.

The owner is decently pleasant but I wouldn't neccesarily call him friendly, so just don't go in asking a bunch of silly questions and you'll be fine. The selection of fish is very broad and you can buy whole fresh fish to take home after picking your own, or choose from fillets. You can shop 2 ways here: pick, pay, and leave, or pick, pay, and have them steam cook it for an extra $1 per lb. I always have them steam my fish and add their blend of sliced potatoes, onions, corn, broccoli and carrots which is the best way to go, every time! The ladies who steam are freaking experts with seasoning! I recommend that you get your order steamed and ask for everything which includes seasoned salt, garlic powder, pepper and red pepper flakes. They squirt your fish with lemon juice and then rinse it, followed by generous amounts of seasoning (I've never had it be too salty, they just get it right somehow) and put everything in a big plastic bags for steaming. and when your fish is done (13 minutes) they put a big dollop of butter (actually a "buttery blend" but it's still very good, just roll with it!) in the bag, close it up and put it in an aluminum container with plastic lid. I mention the packaging because it does an incredible job of keeping everything hot for at least 90 minutes after you buy it. You'll spend about $12-20 easily but you will LOOOOVE IT!!

(Because I care about you, dear reader.) This farmer's market is still a pretty good one. Unfortunately, we've lost Grazin' Angus (although, I'm told I should eat less red meat) and Divine Pickles (I miss those wasabi pickles), but there's still plenty of produce for you. All the tomatoes, greens, beans, nuts, mushrooms, cheese, eggs, flowers and other plants you'd ever want are here for the buying. You can also still grab: Tasty turkey sausage/burgers (and other items) from DiPaolo's. Crusty ciabatta (and other items) from Bread Alone. Whole chickens, primed for roasting. Duck bacon and/or rillettes. Burpless cucumbers. Overall, I've been happy with just about every purchase I've made here over the past few years. There was that one time that I bought an heirloom tomato that got crushed in the bag under other, heavier stuff, and leaked juice all over everything...I was sad about that. Then my cat decided to attack the other, $3 tomato as it sat in our fruit bowl. That was also disappointing, but he's a known asshole and we should've expected it. Anyway, what hasn't changed in the past half decade or so is that I think you should come here and buy delicious items from the vendors. Because the more you support the market, the more awesome vendors will show up. Therefore, by spending money here, you will really be increasing my quality of life. Sure, it'll be good for the whole neighborhood and the food industry in general, but let's be honest: I'm the one that really matters. ____________ *On the Carroll Gardens Greenmarket front.
