Sunset view from pool and swell bar.
Michelle L.

Nice chill place to listen to some live music and eat some puupuus. On the fifth floor of Alohilani Resort by the pool had some fresh tasty poke nachos and a Mahi sandwich. Limited seating so recommend reserving a table or cabana. You can literally swim in the pool if you're staying there and watch the sunset. Service was good. They also had a nice happy hour with several fun cocktails that ended at 6:30. Probably not most places people would venture off the Waikiki boardwalk but you don't need to stay here to eat here.

Great poolside bar with a relaxed, lively vibe. Service is quick and smooth, and the atmosphere makes it easy to unwind and enjoy your time. Definitely a spot worth coming back to.

Great service & food in a relaxing environment. Everyone is always so nice, I'm always greeted by the staff with Aloha. Definitely recommend for lunch meeting or a spot to hangout with friends.

I went to pool often during my vacation and Swell pool bar is next to the pool. I love to get delicious drink and hanging out in a hot tube. I wish I could have breakfast at the place, but my schedule was so packed so only think that I tried at the bar was drinks but I actually enjoyed so much. They also have a sunset happy hour for short period of time for Mai tai at $10 I guess this was just seasonal. Bartender and all staff always friendly. I had very good time at the bar.

Poolside restaurant and bar in the Alohilani Resort in Waikiki. We've only been here three times but found the staff and kitchen to be efficient and consistent. The food and drinks are fresh and yummy. Especially a good choice if you are in the mood for a good salad or club sandwich.

I absolutely love Swell! It was my favorite place at the Alohilani Resort when we stayed. The perfect place to spend the day! Pool, drinks, and food - it cannot get better. If you are hoping for a pool day, then I suggest you get up early, get a towel and claim your lounger. Otherwise, you may not get the lounger you want or any seat by the pool. You can also reserve cabanas but these are not by the pool. Other seating throughout that includes the bar, tables, along with comfy seats and couches. The staff are amazing! Servers walk around frequently and are quick to take your order. However, after 4p/5p, the servers are not around as much. Or you can place your drink/food menu at the bar. Be sure to take advantage of their happy hour menu which is called Earth to Cup from 4p-6p. The happy hour is not much of a discounted rate but offers different food than the regular menu, but the drinks are a lower price. Food and drink wise you cannot go wrong. We have tried the mahi-mahi quesadillas, meatballs, mai tai, garlic parm fries, and açaí bowl to name a few. Everything was fresh, delicious, and a decent portion! Staff also walk around and treat guests to complimentary banana bread or cookies. Nighttime offers live music and more of a swanky vibe. Take the 5th floor to Swell and you will not be disappointed.

Server was amazing - I think her name was Denise. March 2024 We had a table and couch to enjoy the evening DJ. We shared a pitcher of longboard beer, French fries, coconut shrimp,, and a burger with a side of gravy. Food was good, service was better. I wish I could have done a pitcher of margaritas but that's not available. We moved on later to the pool and then one of the servers were handing out cookies. We had a great experience at the Swell Pool Bar.

Fattest oysters Ive ever had.. and waited 1 hr+ for them to be shucked. They were so briny we couldn't finish them. They had a live DJ which was some girl who basically hung out at the cabana with her friends and barely paid attention to her set.

Fundraiser at Swell - VN
Vince N.

A nocturnal fundraising event brought us to Swell, which is the name of the pool bar at the Alohilani Resort. ATMOSPHERE: Intimate, modern and chic best describes the vibe, with a mix of seating arrangements including sofas, low tops and swanky cabanas. EXPERIENCE: While we stuck to the included wine-tasting at the event, my spouse was in the mood for a martini, so we headed to the bar. Because it was a fundraiser, scrips had to be purchased first, then redeemed at the bar. The worker selling scrips didn't know how much a martini was so she asked one of the female bartenders. Instead of politely offering a similar cocktail, the bartender made a face as if we asked her to strip off her clothes, frowned and disgustingly said "We don't make martinis". Wow, Ms. Unhappy, I guess you didn't want to make $45 for your hotel and more tip money. Let me get this, you stock vodka but can't shake it with ice? Your loss, clown. OVERALL: It always takes that one, "special" employee to ruin your business. One star because it's required, a second star for the facilities.

Started the evening out with a yoga class and then one of our friends suggested Swell Restaurant and Pool Bar to see something different. The stars are for the atmosphere, fire pit, chill vibe, the live singing and music. Definitely check it out if you're visiting! Our waitress was super sweet and helpful!!! Shout out to her. We ordered the: -Crispy coconut shrimp: my fave of the night and also who doesn't love deep fried coconutty shrimp -Swell Burger bc we were super hungry. This was delicious especially served on a potato bun -Brussel sprouts! So yums -Flat bread which I recommend -Kalua pork tacos super juicy and flavorful Go and check out the vibe!!!

NO HAPPY HOUR Not as described on the website & in the hotel!!! Not the same items as advertised. No discounts. False advertisement with mediocre drinks. Our bartender seemed clueless.

I had the best experience here. My bartenders were amazing! Shout out to Chris and Matt. I can't forget Emily. She was a wonderful waitress. The DJ's were on point and the food was fantastic! The wind was blowing! It was a whole vibe! 10/10!

Ask the Community - Swell Restaurant and Pool Bar

Is this only 21+ allowed?

They serve food too so all ages are allowed.

How much is the cabana for reservation?

Do we have to book seatings here or can we just chill and order drinks at the bar there?

Before 6pm, it's open seating. After 6, you'll need a reservation. This was my experience in late February.

Great service and yummy food... Tucked away at the Laylow…read morehotel, is a chill restaurant with fun Hawaiian vibes. We started our vacation with dinner at the Hideout, and upon entering you could immediately hear live music. We received a warm welcome, and brought over to our booth where our server Kai was quick to greet us. We ordered cocktails (I don't remember the name of mine. It's something spritz, and my husband tried the banana bread old fashioned) and we shared the appetizer platter (brussel sprouts with pork belly, kalua pork egg rolls, poke tacos, and edamame)to share. We also ordered the garlic shrimp dumplings. Everything was super tasty. Lots of other items on the menu that I want to try during another visit to the island.

Stressful from the start…read more I called to inquire about parking a week prior to my rsv and was told they were sold out for the night. I mentioned that it was just a general question and i wasn't coming that night. They informed me that it's validated for two hours and it's first come first serve. After the 2 hours its $14 an hour. Getting into the valet area was stressful enough as there was a car parked right before you turn and pedestrians that walk back and forth from their main driveway entrance. I also had to wait for valet for a bit too as there was 2 other cars in front of me and probably only 2 valet on duty trying to move cars forward. Reservations can be made on open table, but there was really no point to doing that since it's open seating during happy hour times. We ended up just picking a table that was in the shade, and noticed they only have their menu by QR code which is kinda annoying. The server was pretty nice tho and he brought my dog some water mid way. Their happy hour runs from 2-6 and the menu is slightly less expensive. The food was kind of standard hotel type of food and nothing really stood out. Otherwise the vibes at the restaurant was nice and i do like that they allow dogs to join you. it seems like they have live music after a certain time. I was even more annoyed and stressed with the valet when i went to pick up my car. They literally just handed me my keys. My car was parked along the wall probably 20 steps away, but they could have at least taken out my car cause it was so hard to get out, but i guess it's nice they trust that i wont bang the car in front of back of me i guess even tho im a pretty terrible parker. at the time they didn't look as busy as when i first arrived, so i dont know why they couldn't have just done the bare minimum with just pulling out my car from the stall.

Unlike the Chinatown location, this place is smaller but very intimate. Since it just opened when I got there I cant tell you what kind of people relax here. I liked it as its quiet and calm. Sadly I hoped I could give it a better review but since moving from the downtown venue to Waikiki I…read morejust couldn't. Located in a hotel called The Romer on Nāhua Street in Waikiki off of Kuhio (closer to Ala Wai Canal) it is a smallish unpretentious looking building on Diamond Head side of Nahua. They have valet stand in front and validate parking for up to 3 hours. The valet wasn't very friendly when we walked towards him and usually they hold the door open but this one did not. We realize he's probably not part of Lei Stand staff but it doesn't make a good first impression. Walk into the lobby and directly to your left is the Lei Stand. It is brightly neon but dark if that makes sense, and very small. If you're a fan of when it used to be on Bethel St downtown then you'll be disappointed with this venue. No view to be had, dark drapes cover the windows (we were there at 6:00 pm) and no cute little lanai or garden. Tiny tables either high tops or rounds - maybe 10 total and a small bar. There was one tiny corner booth. The lost star was for this set up but also another lost star for NO MUSIC. Music is such an important part of a place especially a bar so we were disappointed and appalled there was only silence. Bartender said the music was "broken" so we turned on our phones to get something on our table. Then two girls brought in something to light the place up with some tunes so that helped. The final lost star was it is called The Lei Stand yet there wasn't a lei stand inside the place. When we asked the bartender where it was he didn't even know what a lei was. Then we explained to him and he said it is in the hotel lobby but you have to go to front desk to let them know you wish to purchase one. Another disappointment. Thank goodness I bought her a lei from downtown in case they didn't have any. The good stars ... Star 1 goes to the drink menu and how delicious they tasted. "Rub up on my belly" was beautifully prepared and so delicious I had to have another one lol I mean how could I refuse a second guava jam infused Tito's vodka??? Bartender prepared with cute little garnish and an ice stick to keep it cold! He was very nice and took good care of us. My friend opted for the "Clifton's Curse" - yes there's a back story to this drink- and enjoyed the cognac, absinthe, bitters and sherry concoction! Ono! Star 2 goes to the food or "nibbles" as they call it. Taro chips and crack dip were yum and a nice handful of chips not too much and not too little. Hurricane fries - to die for! Plenty of furikake, parmigiano reggiano and spicy aioli. The girls who brought our food were very nice and made sure we had what we needed to enjoy, bringing us waters too. They also had a smash burger for $25 but we had dinner rez later so didn't want to indulge but it looked good. It might be cute if you wanted to do a private party here and I noticed a room across with a beautiful large table set up for a private dinner - not sure if part of hotel or bar.

The restaurant and bar weren't terribly unique. The cocktails are quite pricy for being as mid as they are...we tried to the coconut cake martini and the coconut old fashioned. The martini did not have all the razzmatazz shown in the menu picture, and tasted like key lime pie, which is fine, but there was nary a hint of coconut.
