Eli Rushing was my artist, and he took me as a walk-in. I came in wanting to get my newborn son's footprints tattooed on each side of my Tree of Life. We bounced around a few ideas and landed on a design I was really excited about. Eli absolutely nailed it. We had great conversation throughout the session, and once it was done, I was genuinely blown away by the finished piece. On a whim, I also asked if he'd be willing to touch up some faded Hawaiian islands I have on my other arm, and he didn't hesitate. He was happy to do it, which I really appreciated. The pricing was very fair, and I tipped well because I felt he absolutely deserved it. That was fully my choice, just based on the quality of the work and the overall experience. Everyone coming through the shop was friendly, talkative, and welcoming. Even the shop hand stood out--she was constantly making sure the artists had what they needed and was great with customers. You can see why this place has won so many awards. The shop and the artists absolutely live up to that reputation. Which is so silly because making the appointment is so easy through their website. I've now had 5 total piercings at DV8 over the course of the last year and a half on my ear curation journey. All are healing well and I'm very happy with the placements.  Keep in mind the jewelry is not included in the piercing fee, and it can add up quick if you're a gold lover. But if you're getting subsequent piercings, they allow you to bring in any previous jewelry that you've already purchased from them to use for future piercings. Just keep in mind that your appointment may take a little longer because they will need to sanitize the jewelry. I'm most impressed with the detailed aftercare instructions. I was horrified by the lack of instructions my sister received after being pierced at a VERY POPULAR piercing place in Berkely on Telegraph Ave (you know the place). She came with me to one of my appointments at DV8 and said, wow, they didn't tell me ANY of that stuff at the other place. And I was like, I KNOW - that's why I only come to DV8. They are also certified by the Association of Professional Piercers, so I feel confident that everything they do is safe and sanitary.

It's also a lot closer than the other shop I was used to going to. Fallen Angel is a tattoo shop and the set up inside is gorgeous. I liked how the tattoo stations were set up facing the windows and the clients getting tattoos had movies playing for a nice distraction. There didn't seem like much room, but maybe it was (since I'm not the expert, lol). Everyone looked comfortable! We met Shannon! She walked out with gorgeous long purple & blue hair and a big smile. I instantly loved her personality! After introductions, she went to go sanitize the room so we could all get pierced. One by one and we watched each other all get pierced, Shannon took her time with each of us. We all did something different. My daughter got a floating halo, her grandmother got a flat, I think?? I got the conch. Right before Shannon pierced us, she offered to count down if we wanted. I needed a count down, lol! How funny is my daughter that as I decided on the conch, she whispers the word "ouch" to me before I was pierced, lol! Yeah it hurt, but it also felt great! Shannon was quick with it and handled my ear worth care. Shannon also explain to each of us the process of keeping it clean daily, a few times a day with saline. We all took it like Champs! I am super happy with mine! This is definitely my go-to shop to get pierced from now on!
