My best friend and I decided way back in July that we wanted to get matching tattoos for our 30-year friendiversary. But of course, life got busy and we never set a date. Fast forward to Christmas Eve, I text her and said, "Let's go the day after Christmas. No excuses." I searched for a tattoo shop with good reviews and found Lucky Buddha Tattoo. Since it was Christmas Eve night, I couldn't get ahold of anyone (understandably), so we decided to just try our luck the next day. The shop is located off San Juan and Madison, which can be a busy area, but there's parking right out front... huge win. When we walked in, we were greeted by their apprentice, Sophia, who was incredibly sweet and welcoming. We explained what we wanted and hoped we could get it done that day. Our original idea was to place the tattoo on the palm area, but Sophia was very transparent about how ink usually doesn't hold well there. She suggested an alternative placement that still worked perfectly with our vision. After discussing the price, we decided to go for it. Luckily, she had availability right then and there. She was so patient, making every tweak and edit we asked for without hesitation or attitude Absolute gem. While she was designing, we hung out up front and got some unexpected puppy therapy! their sweet pit bull wandered over and decided my friend was her chosen human. She jumped right into her lap and chilled, which was especially adorable since my friend is normally scared of big dogs. Instant icebreaker. The entire vibe of the shop was warm, friendly, and chill. The owner even came out and chatted with us for a bit, which just added to the good energy. Once we finalized the design, Sophia got to work. She had a gentle hand, and each tattoo only took about 20 minutes. We walked out beyond happy. the tattoos came out perfect, and the experience was even better. I would not recommend going with Shelby Carion or shelbi_tatz, unless you enjoy being lied to, gaslit, and told misinformation about your permanent tattoo that you wanted to trust her to put on your body. Our little saga begins when I reach out about a tattoo design, and I schedule an appointment. Everything ran smoothly, we made an appointment, I made the deposit, we were set. She underwent something absolutely terrible, so I did reach out to make sure she was doing well, and to offer flexibility due to her recent experience. I was trying to be a good client. She confirmed on December 29th, that I would have the design on Tuesday, when my tattoo was scheduled for Friday. I was excited due to my major anxiety, and because we were designing something that neither of us had an exact reference for. On Tuesday, I received nothing, on Wednesday I received nothing. On Thursday I reached out and was told she would have the tattoo design over to me shortly as she was putting on the last touches to the design. By midnight on Thursday, I hadn't recieved anything from her. I sent her a message stating the following, "I wanted to let you know that I've decided not to move forward with this tattoo. I have severe anxiety, specifically with not being able to see the design prior to the day of the tattoo. I don't like to make last-minute design changes and wouldn't have the time to review the tattoo design prior to my appointment. I stayed up late hoping to see it, but unfortunately, it didn't come through. I wish you a speedy recovery and all the best. Thank you for your time." Her response came through as gaslighting, stating multiple times that she never shows the artwork prior to the appointment and this works for all of her other clients but didn't seem to work for me. No hard feelings but I'm out my deposit as she did design the tattoo. She consistently stated "No hard feelings" as if placating someone beneath her and she stated she's been professionally tattooing for 7 years, however, she's only been tattooing in California since 2019. Now I'm not the best at math, but 2019 was not 7 years ago. Additionally, I have never seen the design. Even after she stated she would show it to me. I honestly doubt she ever made the design and was trying to deceive me so she could keep the deposit without doing any actual work. I have given her 8 days to produce the design. I wasted $100 on this design, which apparently the deposit isn't just for the design, it's for her art supplies and things, so just be wary when you book with her. I would NOT recommend her, and I highly doubt I would have loved the tattoo she would have tried to put on my body when I wasn't able to see it prior. Do not go to this woman. She lies, and she will try to make you feel bad for having boundaries. 0/10. I did recieve a $50 refund on my $150 deposit. Update - Artist reached out, we conversed, all screen shots are from our conversation. I tried to make them be in order. Still no design presented. I still have no trust in this woman as a professional. I feel like the screenshots prove my point. All screenshots are labeled so you can follow along. I have had great experiences prior at this shop, and truly loved the atmosphere. This artist has ruined my trust, though. read more

I have had 3 tattoos done by Kat from Lucky Buddha. My first tattoo done by her was from about 2 years ago and I also had 2 recent tattoos done in October 2023 by Kat as well and I love every single one of them. The artwork is beautiful as always but she is also very professional and diligent in her work. The shop itself cares about the comfort and safety of clients and sanitation and health is prioritized. None of my tattoos were infected and all healed properly with no complications. If anything, Kat also assisted me with peeling off the Saniderm and cleaning my arm tattoo when I returned a few days later after recovery. The other artists at the shop are also friendly so the environment is pretty chill, which I think is especially important to get tatted at a shop where you can feel at ease. I can't vouch for tattoos done by the other artists since I've only booked with Kat ($80 deposit, I believe to book) but I can book an appointment/consultation within a month as she's pretty responsive and prices are quite fair for the quality of artwork done. I'm going to separate this review into about my artist and the shop itself to make it easier. So firstly my artist Shelby I followed her from one shop to another because she's got amazing linework and a feminine but dark art style that I love. At this point I've gotten about 4 tattoos from her so far and if I've ever had any issues with anything she's always willing to help fix it :) Now for the shop itself, like I said before I followed my artist and I could tell an immediate difference in the atmosphere. I feel like a lot of shops have a tough guy, cold attitude with everyone but here it's super chill and inviting. I think the only thing that sucks is the parking right in front, but there are some lots across the street. My brother and I got tattoos here, I called two days in advance for an appointment and they were able to fit us into their schedule! It was super easy, I just sent in photos of what we kinda wanted and when we showed up the design was ready to be looked at by us, we made a few minor changes and there was no problem they made the changes and we were taken to the back! We were able to adjust the size and placement of our tattoos without ever feeling like the tattoo artist was rushing us or irritated! I was rushed by my artist with my first tattoo at a DIFFERENT business and I didn't want that to happen again, and at lucky Buddha they took the time to make sure everything was perfect before we began! Our tattoos were done by Emily, who was hilarious and made us feel very comfortable! It was my brothers first tattoo and we were walked through everything we'd need to know about the process, pain , and healing! Emily did and amazing job and paid close attention to details ! I was able to get in to see Kat and she did an awesome job on my tattoo! She is so warm & inviting & had my sister and I at ease right away. 11 years ago my dad passed away and less than a week ago my mom passed, I brought in a letter from my dad with his signature and the wording in the tattoo & Kat was able to copy it word for word! I also wanted 2 butterflies to represent and honor my parents and she showed me a few styles & helped me pick some great ones. As you can see from the pictures she did a beautiful job and with very little discomfort, the only uncomfortable spot was near the wrist but I had anticipated that. I felt the need to revisit my original review after further interaction w/ Lucky Buddha Tattoo. After being ghosted, the owner Guy, did reach out via FBM and apologized, stating that it was completely unintentional. That was appreciated. That appreciation however has soon soured w/ further interaction w/ the shop. My partner had a upcoming appt for an Elvira tattoo w/ Marcie Mallory, one of the other Artists at this shop. The piece turned out great. My partner was excited to return to his new-go-to-tattoo-artist for more work. (We both had had laundry lists of tattoo work we had planned to do over the next years to come and were both ecstatic to have found a shop we loved) Fast forward a few weeks later, my partner whom had not yet lost faith w/ Lucky Buddua Tattoo, made a return appt for a another piece of which both him and Marcie Mallory had discussed via text. The day of however, Marcie cancels the appt. No worries, life happens, we completely get that. Problem is, Marcie stated she would be in touch to reschedule.... Enter crickets for weeks. My partner finally texted Marcie asking to reschedule again...twice. That was several months ago. No replies ever received from Marcie Mallory. This shop, although full of raw talent, seems to have real issue w/ customer service and just basic manners in general. This has been such a disappointing journey as both my partner and I really loved the vibe and the stellar work that both Guy and Marcie Mallory produced. read more

I came here from a friends recommendation and I am very glad I did, I met with Guy the owner and we discussed the tattoo that I wanted to get. He drew up a few examples of the photo giving them more life than the original. Guy is very easy to talk to and makes you feel very comfortable, once I picked which rendering of the tattoo I wanted the work began. Total time only took about an hour and a half.
