While the place was beautiful, our experience was less than ideal. We were sat at a booth enjoying our drinks until a large group showed up and sat at the booths on the left and right side of us. They were getting up continuously talking to each other and had no regard for our experience. Not sure why the staff didn't think about this before seating us. When you step into the Swan Room, which is adjacent to the Nine Orchard Hotel, it's like stepping back in time. Heavy, dark wood, warm stone, hidden banquets, thick rich carpet. I had: Island monk: Planteray Sealander rum, Yellow Chartreuse, pandan, guava, lemon Five citrus margarita: Lalo tequila, bergamot, satsuma mandarin, blood orange oleo, lime, citron salt Le Jardin: Citadelle Jardin gin, aquavit, carrot, dill, lemon Negroni Messicana: Yola mezcal, Xila, St. Agrestis 'Inferno', Giardino Rosso And had to soak all that up with the ham and cheese croquettes. A little steep at 22 dollars, but hot, gooey, and tasty. Made with prosciutto cotto, gruyère, romesco, guindilla peppers. So that being said, with all those ingredients, maybe 22 dollars wasn't so bad! The drinks were all delicious and very different from one another. Complex, interesting, creative. Went to the Swan Room at the Nine Orchard Hotel on a weekday evening early in the week for a late cocktail with a friend. We did not make a reservation and had no issue getting in, though I would recommend a reservation on busier nights or for earlier evening times. The interior is absolutely beautiful, highly intricate, ornate, and visually stunning. The space feels elegant but still comfortable, making it an easy place to settle in and relax. We ordered cocktails (all $24), which were served with large ice cubes that melt slowly. I had the Margarita and my friend ordered the Old Fashioned; both were excellent and well-balanced. This is a great spot for catching up with a friend over a cocktail. The seating is very comfortable and spaced out well, so it does not feel crowded or loud. The staff was kind, attentive, and helpful throughout the evening. Would certainly return and recommend for a relaxed, elevated cocktail experience. read more

Swan Room on the Lower East Side is the perfect place to have a cocktail experience in New York. It's housed in a landmark built in 1912 which is now the fully renovated Nine Orchard Hotel. There are a number of bars and restaurants available but the Swan Room is quite unique. It's the old teller room set with vaulted ceilings and Pink Tennessee marble walls. It definitely has an old world flare which makes it a perfect spot for a New York nightcap. @swanroomnyc The menu has a nice selection for all flavors and likes. We landed on Banana Sazerac and Grasshopper which are both variations of classics. I have a hard time passing up a cocktail paired with banana liqueur and a brown spirit. They always turn out delicious if made well so Banana Sazerac was calling me. This legendary New Orleans recipe took on new life by adding a few twists to the original ingredients. It combined Rye whiskey with Brown Butter Cognac, Oloroso (dark Spanish fortified wine), banana liqueur and absinthe. It worked well with a nice balance of boozy, slightly sweet and rich. The Grasshopper added Armagnac and Pandan (Asian vanilla) to the original ingredients of Creme de Menthe, Creme de Cacao and cream. It was an elevated treat from a classic that always brings happiness to our crew. White Swan is a memorable space worth seeking out next time you're in New York. I did make a reservation so I'm not sure how hard it would be to walk in but we were sat immediately, the inside is beautiful. We didn't have a reservation, so the hostess took a few minutes before seating us, even though the room was nearly empty. Not sure what the delay was about, but we eventually got a table. I ordered the bourbon Old Fashioned, and my wife opted for a dirty martini with Bleu cheese-stuffed olives. To go along with the drinks, we added a side of rosemary fries. The fries were tasty, although at $15, they didn't feel quite worth the cost. Overall, the drinks were great, and we're excited to have this as a local neighborhood spot. The Swan Room is located inside the Nine Orchard hotel. There's a small step to get inside, and I'm not sure if there's an ADA way to get inside. It is not a big bar but it is gorgeous! Note that the bathrooms are downstairs (not sure if there's an elevator). The bathrooms are very pretty though. Service was spectacular and attentive. I had the Takishido Martini and it was stunning. Very complex flavor profile. The drinks here are thoughtfully curated. The food menu is limiting, especially if you are a vegetarian or vegan. We had the snack platter but it's pricey at $18, and usually something some bars give you for free! It contained potato chips, olives and nuts. The tables are pretty close together so be prepared to make friends with your neighbors. Their Resy page mentions a dress code and say "dress for a night out", which is deceiving. There were a fair amount of tourists at the bar not dressed up at all, so I would take the dress code as a light suggestion rather than a requirement. Overall, this is a nice place to come for a drink but make sure you eat a full meal before or after as the dinner options are limited. read more

Definitely an elevated "hotel breakfast" experience. Love the vibes and atmosphere of the Swan Room, super comfortable seating and beautiful architecture. Service was very attentive and accommodating (I told them I had to go quick, and they brought out drinks and food in under 10min). Fresh OJ was delicious and refreshing. The Nine Orchard Breakfast was also great, although the bacon and the hashbrown were a tad greasy (but I know that's what I was going to get). This elegant and cozy cocktail lounge is connected to the Nine Orchard hotel and is the sister cocktail bar to Corner Bar on the same block. It was a rainy night, so the plush seating, velvet curtains, and intimate lighting were particularly inviting! I had a glass of Rosé while my friend tried a savory gin and tonic with carrots and coriander. Wow. This spot was gorgeous. LOOK at the ceiling - beautiful chandeliers dropping down from a high ceiling with intricate details. We had a reservation for 9 but our table wasn't ready. We were there for a little while before we got taken to our seats but the bartender was really sweet and we enjoyed our drinks. OK wow, Swan Room stole my heart on a recent visit to New York. Why? For starters it is absolutely gorgeous. Located in the Nine Orchard Hotel in Downtown New York, apparently the building is a lower east side landmark bank transformed into a hotel and restaurant/bar. I wish I did research before so I could appreciate that the Swan room (one of the three dining destinations in the hotel) is actually set in a former bank teller room. I definitely appreciated the grandeur of it all, but had no idea! Alas, I still had an excellent time which brings me to the star of my night - the martinis. For me, it's always the martinis honestly, and the ones and Swan Room were phenomenal. I started first with the San Sebastian Martini - this featured gin, basque pepper brine, and an anchovy olive. Be still my heart it may have been the most interesting martini I have drank, and I have drank a loooot of martinis in my day. They also offer martini service which is fabulous but I did not partake as my girls were enjoying other cocktails. Would definitely come back for that. I also enjoyed a wonderfully dirty gin martini prepared classically after the San Sebastian one. Also great. Call me touristy, but there's something about being at a fancy hotel bar in New York City with your girlfriends surrounded by your favorite cocktails. Healing, as they say. While I did not eat, there is a nice menu that caught my eye. Swan Room also had a nice selection of zero-alcohol cocktails. While I did not partake in that, I love when a bar puts as much intention behind NA Drinks as they do proper cocktails for those who are not having a spirit-forward evening. Service at the bar was fabulous, and the dining room is once again absolutely gorgeous. This is a great spot to pop in for a cocktail, or celebrate a grand night out. The decor here is very nice....it's upscale...'cool'....but not my kinda place. First off, we arrived around 830p or so on a Thursday night, and there was a 'hostess' type immediately by the door, who asked us 'do you have a reservation?' ("A Reservation??", I'm thinking to myself....for a BAR??) Um, no, we don't have a reservation, and if that's a problem, or if you tell us there will be a bit of a 'wait', then there are dozens of other places we can go to, instead. I have a real dislike of places that seem to be a bit 'full of themselves', or that seem geared to gullible types who fall for this M.O. This NYer knows that the 'reservation' thing is often pure B.S. to lend an air of supposed cachet or popularity to a place. Either way, without any reservation, we were led in to seats at the bar. I noticed the place was very full, and that most people were crowded into tiny little cocktail tables. My friend and I each got a cocktail. They were good, but quite expensive. Swan Room ceiling caught my eye a few times while driving by and I finally got to go. I was a lil wary due to the other reviews but I had a good experience and good service. We went on a Friday night, about 10:15pm or so, party of 2 and got seated immediately. We got a nice comfy little booth nook. Drinks are delicious, they came fast and the fries too. Overall it's an amazing experience for the price point. Cocktails are like $18-22 most places in NYC but here you get ambiance, glassware with style, chic coasters and obviously the most gorgeous coffered ceilings. Service is also quite quick with ordering and receiving. I don't know. I don't want it to get too crowded but I'm not sure why it isn't a long waiting list either. The service is attentive, if you want to impress your group, try to order the martini service. It comes with lemon peel, olives and mixers in a swan container, and your choice of vodka or gin. You will mix yourself to your likings. Personally I don't like dirty martini so I was not a fan of this. I ended up only just had gin with lemon twist. It's a pretty set up but drinks was basic. It was recommended by a colleague as he knows I enjoy trying new cool places and I was glad he did . I don't mind traveling out of my UWS neighborhood for a place like this . A perfect place to catch up with friends over some wine and cocktail in an absolutely gorgeous setting be it at the bar or at the tables . Our set up was just perfect for 3, it's quite cozy . If you go during winter or colder months , definitely check in your coats to have a little bit more space . Food is for accompaniment and not the highlight. We had the burger and fries ( which were delicious and is from the restaurant Corner Bar) and baked mussels . If you're planning on dining next door, plan accordingly and book well in advance as we tried to get a table and the wait was at least two hours . Luckily , the location is close to loads of restaurants in the lower east side . I was greeted by the friendly hostess and had an attentive server ( but forgot my friends initial order so it took a bit for their drinks to come ) but it's worth the wait for such a place ! Other than that: I came at the time of my reservation, and was studiously ignored by the staff for the first ten minutes. Music was very loud, which might have been okay, but music selection was uninspired. Loud and terrific, ok; bad and low volume, ok. Loud and bad? - get a better music curator. I'm happy to pay a lot for a good drink, but I paid a lot for a drink that totally lacked the pizazz of a custom cocktail at a place specializing in cocktails. If you are going to spend more than $20 on Pimm's, then THIS is the place to do it. My British friends were horrified when I got the Pimm's - with this drink normally being priced at $3 per glass on the other side of the Atlantic. Was it worth it? Yes. And would I do it again? Absolutely. The Swan Room is an affair that requires a fair bit of forward planning, with even those booking three weeks in advance not able to secure a table earlier than 10pm. But upon visiting, you understand why. I am thrilled to report that, despite the long queue of eager customers, the proprietors of this establisment have not given in to temptation. They hold the line at the door in order to create an ambiance that is calm, sophisticated and just-the-right-level-of-busy. Definitely worth visiting at least once while you're in New York! For the less organised, the Swan Room is also attached to a hotel - meaning that by dint of booking a night there you can gain access to their bar area. Success! read more

Came here on a Saturday with a group of people. One of my friends stayed in the hotel a few months ago and couldn't stop raving about this place. Not only is the spot gorgeous but I really enjoyed myself. We accidentally entered the wrong way and were immediately told by the bartender to check in with Chanell. Before we could walk to the other side of the room, she greeted us. We were late to a reservation and had no way of getting in contact. But she knew who we were and got us seated immediately. Originally she gave us an hour at the table but told us she would let us know if she could move things around. The martini service was stunning. Strong. But definitely a crowd pleaser. We loved presentation. Caviar service could use some work. Felt a little too casual with the addition of ruffles. Our server was very nice. She seemed a bit overwhelmed and occupied with other more demanding tables. The room was extremely busy on a Saturday night. It took some time for our martini service to come out. But we did appreciate the host knowing when we needed help or attention from our server. I was told by my friend they had a strict no photo policy. Which I thought was a real shame. The place itself is beautiful. I made a mistake of celebrating my birthday here ( I was under impression that it's a restaurant, but it's actually a small lounge) which is my mistake. But other than that, the drinks were terrible, they charged us extra 100 USD just to bring out our own cake (which no one told us in advance that would cost this insane amount). We also gave them specific candles for the cake, but they used their own. I also felt a bit upset they didn't let me take even one photo with my friends (it was dark as a dungeon so I had to use flash and apparently it disturbed other guests who were no where near us or in the way of the photo, so I don't know what's the big deal). Overall just felt very uncomfortable, as if they were doing me a favor by just letting me be there lol. I usually hate writing reviews, but I feel like they ruined that night for me. read more
