I highly recommend Dr. Friemel and Swann Animal Clinic on 45th! My fifteen-year old Chihuahua, Poncho, had taken a turn for the worse, and I had to make the difficult decision to put him to sleep. Dr. Friemel and her staff were incredibly kind, accommodating, and took over an hour to answer all of my questions and to talk about the different options. I normally see a different veterinarian office, which is also good, but they were closed and recommended Swann Animal Clinic. The exceptional care, compassion, and sensitivity that Dr. Friemel and the Swann staff demonstrated today has certainly convinced me to take my current pet and any future pets to her from now on. While I have interacted with many good veterinarian here and in the DFW area where I am originally from, I can safely say that Dr. Friemel has been the best. I've been a loyal client at Swann Animal Clinic for over 7 years and never had a bad experience until now. Unfortunately, this visit completely changed how I feel about this clinic. My 3-pound dog was brought in for a nail trim, and the staff cut the nails far too short, causing my dog to cry out in pain. Instead of acknowledging the mistake or showing concern, I was treated like I was the problem for being upset about my dog being hurt. Any pet owner would be concerned in that situation. To make matters worse, Dr. Hill had very poor bedside manner. The interaction felt rushed, dismissive, and lacking empathy. On top of that, the amount of cologne worn was overwhelming, which is uncomfortable in a medical setting--especially around animals that are sensitive to strong smells. After years of trust and loyalty, this experience was incredibly disappointing. I expect better care, accountability, and compassion--especially for small, fragile pets. He had emergency surgery at Small Animal Emergency Clinic, the only place open that night, and the next morning we transferred to Swann Urgent Care where he was hospitalized for a couple of days. Top of the line care for my dogs every time! We have two dogs Rawsko and Leora each who have very specific needs. Today our boy Rawsko was badly injured by another dog at home and the first thing we did was call Swann. They were able to get him seen immediately. Swann Vet has a money making racket and incompetent vets. The short story is that they charged me $333 for a deep nail trim. But what is worse is that they over medicated a 21 pound, 9-year-old dog for a procedure that usually doesn't require sedation. They used Butorphanol which is 5X stronger than morphine and used for severe post operative pain and Deximedetomidine which has cardiovascular side effects. Sedation is always a risk. The long story is that on 9/26/25, I took my dog Zoey to Swann's urgent care because her toenail was at a 90-degree angle. She'd walk on it with some discomfort. We saw Dr. Dodson who told me two times that that normally the nail would just "pop off"; but since Zoey's nail was still firmly attached, I'd have to bring her in the next morning. Dr. Dodson said Zoey would be sedated and her nail would be removed. The tech went over costs for the procedure which included a deep nail trim @$41.67, sedation, antibiotic, an NSAID pain reliever and bandage. I declined the deep nail trim. They sent us home with gauze pads and styptic powder in case the nail came off that night. The bill for Friday evening was $143, $99 for visit and $44 for NSAID pain reliever. We returned the next morning and once again I declined the deep nail trim. When I picked Zoey up, I found that the only thing they did was the deep nail trim on all her nails; the nail that was to be removed was trimmed and looked normal! The tech said that Zoey exhibited minimal discomfort but they decided to sedate her anyway. When I told them that I had declined the deep nail trim they said that the nail trim costs the same whether it is one nail or 10. The bill for the unnecessary procedure was $190. Zoey was so medicated that she could not walk on her own or close her mouth for over 12 hours. By God's grace she finally came out of it. But who knows if she will suffer long term effects. Dr. Dodson could have given Zoey an oral pain med and trimmed the nail during the initial visit. The whole experience makes me ill. Swann vets put my dog at risk for no reason other than incompetence and monetary gain. read more

Needed a rabies shot quickly, saw tech. She pushed the bordatella (kennel cough). He's never boarded, only groomed every other month. My previous vet charged me $25 for a visit like this. Imagine my shock upon hearing it was $89.00! I'm a senior on social security only and this is a week's grocery money! My advice-very expensive vet. Go to a smaller vet and ask costs in advance. I called a manager 3 times and finally spoke to one who offered no solutions. read more

my female boston terrier pup had parvovirus. the vet at the swan clinic on 45th told me they could hospitalize her for $2,500 per day and she will need to stay for 3-4 days. I said that's $10,000 And no way am I doing that. That's an insane amount money. Vet said yes $10,000 is a lot of money but that's the gold standard and a 90% chance of survival. 60% if I take her home. so I was given 6 cans of food and my pup back to take home. next day my she was in real bad shape. i take her back to swan clinic. she got some shots and fluids then sent back home. 3rd day she was clearing on her last hours and suffering. around 7pm I had sister pick up my pup and take her to the urgent care at the swan clinic. after trying everything and the vet trying everything I was out of options. so I thought. we called ahead and said to put her down. my sister came and picked her up. I stayed home. about an hour later my sister shows up with the pup alive and 2 bags of meds and supplies. I was lost as to what happened. she said she asked if they would check her out to see if anything could be done. they were happy to check her out and not have to put her down. without a doubt they saved my pup. my pup looked like a different dog when my sis brought her home. 2 days later she was running and playing. I can't thank that night crew on that night enough. outstanding work. only wish I could've gotten that level of care in the first place. without the $10,000 bill. at the end of the day they saved her and i am blessed to have more time with my pup. read more

Nobody could be kinder than you have been. Dr Ellersick was with us during the euthanasia and her concern was extremely reassuring. She even stayed with Lily after she had passed to make sure she could be prepared for the last rites. God Bless you all. Taking care of animals who cannot communicate with us is such Good Karma. I had to bring my cat to Swann's as an urgent care patient. I did not catch her name, but the receptionist was so welcoming and took us into a room quickly. While there, an emergency case came in the required immediate attention, so we had to wait a while for them to get that patient stabilized. In the meantime, the vet tech who initially came in to get my cat's info, Vincente, was so absolutely wonderful! He checked on us regularly. He brought me water, and he even loaned me a charger for my phone so that I would have something to occupy myself as we waited. Vincente is an above and beyond kind of guy. He was so sweet. When Dr. Dodson was able to come in, she was thorough in her assessment of Bubba and explained everything to me in a very easy to understand way. Overall, the folks at Swann made a very worrying situation so much easier. read more

I had a puppy that was 7 weeks old with hypoglycemia her blood sugar was 55 at their office . They sent me home, I called back 2 hours later and told them her glucose level was 39 and they said to wait until 6:30 and take her to the ER vet because all of their after hours appointments were scheduled for surgery. I called Animal medical center and they got me right in. My puppy had a seizure while I was at the other clinic. If I had waited like Swan told me, my puppy would have died. I had to have my dog put down on a Saturday. I called ahead to see what the process was. I wanted him cremated so she suggested I get that set up before making an appointment. I did and then called back. We were seen that day. I let the cremation company know he was ready and let the vet know who was picking him up. 5 days later I get a call that they still have his body. When I call to discuss the lengthy time before I was notified...I was told that they hold them as a "service to you". I understand that my fur baby wasn't as important to them as he was to me--but I asked the process and would have just taken him myself to the cremation company if I had know I was needing such "charity". I understand delays happen but if they had told me Monday or Tuesday I would have gotten it taken care of. I trusted them with the process and with my boy. My heart is so sad...I am grieving for my Oliver all over again. Side note--I remember as a kid coming here to bring our pets to see Dr. Swann...he was so amazing. $$$HIGHEST VET IN TOWN$$$ We have gone here for a long time, Until today. Took our dog in for shots and a blood draw and they said he was "aggressive". They gave us pills to calm him down and made another appointment for us. We followed the pills and directions and returned the next day. When we showed up they muzzled him and said that he still wasn't "chilled out enough" and sent us back home. About 3 hours after the appointment, our dog could barely keep his head up and was falling down when walking. They we're going to charge us over $350.00 dollars for these services. They are also the highest place in town to take your animal. The service is terrible too. I thought they would be professionals and be able to take care of a simple blood draw and shot. Nevertheless, we went to another vet (Canyon Road) and they had zero issues and charged a fraction of the cost. If you like your money,time and dignity...STAY AWAY FROM SWAN!! read more

I have taken my dogs to Swann for several years, despite how expensive they are, but no more. I took my lab because he was bleeding and I couldn't figure out where it was coming from; turns out it was his nose. He got a bloody nose while we were there, which is not normal for dogs. His x-rays and labs looked great for a dog his age. They recommended I come back to see a specialists that could determine if he has tumors in his sinuses and sent me home with antibiotics. I called later that week because I noticed some blood where he had been sitting. Left a message, with a person, for the vet that had seen him and no one called me back. A few days later I noticed a foul odor and and decided to check his rear end for any issues. I saw a tennis ball sized mass protruding from his anus. Please tell me how they missed this? It was so huge, I could see it!!! I took him to another emergency vet and they confirmed a tumor and its size. Unfortunately, we had to put our dear dog to sleep. I am so furious at Swann for missing something so big. There is no way on earth that it grew that big in one week. I paid over $750 for that visit and they missed a huge mass protruding from his rear end. Unbelievable. read more

I am going to start with the fact that I have taken my animals to Swann for about 9 years. I have always been impressed by their customer service and was willing to pay higher prices since we always had good experiences. Let me also add, I know COVID has changed a lot of policy and procedures I work in healthcare I completely understand that. Right now, the policy is that you are not allowed in the facility with your animal the vet techs come to your vehicle your animal inside. I have an extremely loyal German Shepherd that becomes very uneasy when taken from me and has a previous traumatic experience at the vet due to an eye exam. After my dog was taken into the facility, I received a phone call stating they could not do the immunizations without some sort of sedation. Previously we have tried Trazadone (for the eye exam) and she still had to be muzzled and held by me to get the exam done. Which was okay with me because it needed to be done. Today I explained that Trazadone would not give them a much better outcome and they would still have to muzzle and immobilize her. I was given the option to buy medications and give them tonight and tomorrow and bring her back which was not going to work with my schedule, or they could completely sedate her, and I could come to get her in 4 hours. I requested for them to muzzle and immobilize and just get the injections done. This was refused with the excuse of "safety of staff" and "decreasing traumatization to the dog". At this point, my hands were tied since this needed to be done today. When inquired on the process of sedation it was explained to me that the dog would be muzzled, immobilized, and given the IM injection with the sedative. When I brought up that essentially, it's the same process as if you just gave the vaccines without sedation except I'm getting charged more and the dog has to recover. No one could answer to how this made any sense. So, I essentially paid extra money for my dog to be muzzled and held down for one shot so she could go to sleep and get two more. So, let me break it down this way. You take your child to the ER because they need two vaccines which we all know children kick, scream, yell, and even sometimes try to bite to get away from a needle. The staff tells you, "Well for our safety and so we don't traumatize your child we need to sedate them.". You agree because you need them done that day. The nurses come in and restrain the child (the procedure you would do to administer the vaccines) to give an injection for sedation. After the child is calm the vaccines are given. So, your child stays at the hospital longer to recover from the sedation and got an additional "traumatic" injection in the same manner they would have received the vaccines without sedation. Oh, and you also get your bill and the sedation is an additional cost but that was the only way for the facility to agree to give your child the immunizations at that time. Makes complete sense, right? Not really. I will not return to Swann, I will find a reputable Vet that can accommodate my German Shepherd and my requests. read more

My wife and I stopped here on a Saturday afternoon in the middle of our move from one coast to the other when we found out that our dog had an ear infection. The staff was kind, made space for us, listened to us, and cared well for our dog. We even received a follow up call and hand written note over the next weeks. We have used Swann Animal Clinic for over 25 years. Today I am EXTREMELY disappointed in them. Recently they prescribed an antii-inflammatory for our very old, "hospice" dog. The medication was $3.44 per pill but was very helpful. We felt we could not keep giving it to her ar that cost. I finally ordered some from 1-800 Pet Meds. Swann had to verify the prescription--at a cost of $16. Then they called and told me that they could provide the medication at that same cost through their online pharmacy. At no time previously was I told about that option. They had just filled the script retail at 3 times the cost without mentioning the online option. This is NOT the kind of care and attention that has always been available. read more

This is the ONLY place I would even consider taking my fur-brats. Dr Solomon is fantastic. I was referred to them after my husky/shepherd mix tore his ACL, and from the second I shook hands with him onward, it was absolute professionalism. His focus and confidence in handling my dog (who is usually an absolute brat, but behaved like a prince for him) impressed me--too many vets simply do a brief once over and them flounce out the door. When I say "focus", I mean it! He was all about examining Wayah, and I could tell that his primary concern was with what was best for my pet. He ended up doing a surgery to repair the ACL, and I have to say that I would gladly the price tag over again for the result: a month later, my dog was running like the wind without so much as a limp. The staff is super friendly, and they remember your face, name, and your pets names! Even Dr Solomon remembered personal details from our first meetings and asked how the new job and school was going--I can't remember the last time a doctor of any sort remembered my major or my husband's name. We got a handwritten letter from the Clinic shortly after Wayah's surgery, thanking us for choosing them and included several tips for Wayah's recovery- that went on the fridge. As you can tell, I have nothing but raves about this vet clinic. I wholeheartedly endorse him, and I guarantee that you will feel the same. read more

The wait is usually relatively short, and the couple of times I did have to wait an extended period (when there were other emergency cases in the office) I was given coupons for $ off services. Everyone on the staff is friendly, knowledgable and willing to help. Dr. Schilling helped me get my dog on a path toward being more healthy where other vets failed. He did a lot of digging and research in order to get us the answers we needed. Dr. Barber is wonderful! She has gone out of her way numerous times in order to do research, make phone calls, and find answers and options for my pet family. She even calls me personally when I have questions instead of relaying back and forth through a tech or secretary. read more

I have been contacted twice by staff from Swann; once from one of the vets and once by the "marketing manager". I do think it was commendable that they reached out to me. I took my dog to Swann in a rush a few days ago. He got an infection that caused him to vomit and have horrible diarrhea. He was extremely lethargic, and I was so worried. Swann got me an appointment within the same day and didn't make me feel like a complete weirdo for obsessing about my pup. I don't know that I'll ever take my pets anywhere else. The service was phenomenal and everyone was extremely kind. The vet tech even told me to call in once I went home if I had any questions or concerns, even if I thought they were "silly." My cat had teeth falling out, was a rescue that had eaten cheap paneling when caged at old home, 7 teeth removed I know how to read doses, they gave me half or less than that for pain, That is cruelty to cat, could not call holiday, confronted them, before you leave, check doses of medicine especially for pain, I told vet what happened, I think some one stealing meds when filling prescriptions, save enough could sell it, my cat will never be there again, was in great pain read more

There was an issue that I'd been meaning to visit with Dr. Solomon about, but hadn't got around to taking my dog in. This wasn't a visit that required "hands on" exam in any fashion, so when I received an email to try a Televisit from Swann Animal Clinic I was anxious to give it a try. The app worked great, minus one oops on my part. I was able to visit with Dr. Solomon via my phone just as if we were face-to-face without the hassle of time away from the office, etc. Dr. Solomon took the time to listen to all of my concerns (just like he does in person), and the medication I need for my dog is ready to be picked up. I'm a big fan a Swann. They saved our dog's life and they see every dog we have along with the rescues in our care. This is just another advancement in way the doctors and staff continually look for ways to serve their clients. Certainly, Televisits aren't for most issues, but when just a consultation that doesn't require hands on, and the doctors are familiar with you and your animals, this is a wonderful asset to have. read more

Can I give these guys more than five stars? I definitely would if I could! These offices set the bar for veterinary care. They carefully examine my pets all over, no matter what my complaint is. This is how it was discovered that our little old lady is anemic when I was just sure she had a UTI. Explanations are patient, thorough, and good humored. They make sure you understand the tests, treatment and costs completely, so that you can make an informed decision for your pet. I love that! There aren't any "surprises" or additional fees. You know exactly what you're paying before procedures are done. Sometimes, the best price that can be given is a range from here $ to there $, because they don't know what tests will reveal or the surgeon will find. But that's only to be expected. AND! I even had fees come out at the lowest end of the range! The techs at both places go out of their way to help me all the time. I have balance troubles so I can't hold leashes for my dogs while I stand. A friendly face always comes flying out of the office door to take my dogs in for me. The techs are compassionate and knowledgeable, and friendly. Forgiving too! My 80 pound buffalo gal was panicking at the idea of having her temperature taken. She ended up standing perfectly parallel to the floor with all four feet planted in the tech's belly. When the job was done, I was horrified to see the scratches up and down the tech's arms. I apologized and she just laughed and said she does this all day and it's fine! The doctors themselves are very smart, personable and genuinely love animals. No fake affection or dismissive attitudes from these doctors!! Even when they're crazy busy, I always feel like my pets are the only ones being seen that day, and the doctor is totally focused on them. I have nursed one Schnauzer through pancreatitis attacks and had surgery done on the same 14 year old buddy. Treatments were very thoroughly explained, the risks, the possibilities and what the doctors expected to happen. Whatever is going on with my dogs, I come and go here with complete confidence that I'm doing the very best to care for my dogs' health. And THAT, my friend, is a very rare thing indeed! read more

I requested for an appointment online and received a call within hours to schedule an appointment. They were able to get us in the next day.The technician was very gentle and kind. The wait time for the vet was short and reasonable. Dr. Solomon came in with a very upbeat personality, and was friendly and professional. He listened to all of my questions and was able to provide very thorough responses. He made sure I understood his response before moving on to the next order of business. Let me preface this review by first saying that when I lived in Austin I worked with a dog rescue organization that has placed thousands of dogs. I've been to quite a few different vets around Central Texas (depending on who donated what services for our foster dogs). I have seen expensive vets, cheap vets, good vets, downright lousy vets, and a lot, a whole lot, of average vets. BUT, it took moving to Amarillo to find an EXCELLENT vet. The staff at Swann is very friendly and kind, and spent a lot of time coaching me about my VERY sick little pup. The building is virtually brand new, really clean and well-designed. Dr. Solomon, despite being the only vet in the rather large building, didn't seemed rushed when dealing with us. He spent quite a bit of time gathering information, and seemed super-knowledgable. I've been to "old-school" vets in Amarillo, and this guy is not that. He seems young and energetic, and really on top of his field. I was especially impressed that, when my dog had to spend several days hospitalized, Dr. Solomon personally called with updates, and once the pup had been released he personally called to check up on him. In all of my trips to the vets in Austin, I never experienced anything close in customer service -- all for much less cash than I would have ended up parting with for the same services in "pet-friendly" Austin.
