The food here is solid. They have a great breakfast crowd but dinner tends to be sparse. Service at dinner can be lacking. We were served martinis that were less than half full, and clearly made by someone without experience. The server spilled some of a meal on my dinner mate. She apologized and brought more napkins but didn't comp anything. I'm guessing most of the food is frozen because there is no way they could keep everything in stock for the tiny crowd early in the week. That said, they have some of the best pork chops around. Recently had egg whites and thought they were prepared perfectly with spinach mushrooms and bacon. Also the bacon is never greasy. Unlimited coffee and no rushing the customer. The end of an era. I have been going to this place since it was the Swanton Street Deli, but today will be my last visit. I went there today during a slow time. We ordered 3 meals. Our waitress brought 2 to the table, not even saying "the other one will be right out." 5 minutes go by and I start glancing over to our waitress, who was fooling around with the staff speaking in Spanish. We even made eye contact, which in most restaurants is the universal language for "please come to the table." Nope, she continued fooling around. After 10 minutes, she comes by with the last plate and said it was her fault (assume she forgot to write down the order). By that time, my food was cold from waiting. Never once came to check on us after that. On top of the horrible service, the food quality has hit rock bottom. The potatoes were tiny and old, the bacon was burnt, and the pancakes crumbled apart, which pancakes are not supposed to do. So we got here about 630. Mentioned to the waitress that we needed to be somewhere leaving at 7:30 for something not too far away. Waited another 10 minutes before we were seated at our party of five at a table right in front of us. Waited again for our menus, odd, because the guess we were with actually knew the waitress by name. She was clearly frazzled, she was on one side of the room and another waitress on the other. It seems like maybe everybody all came in at once, but not sure. We ordered a myriad of my items and waited for our salads. Again. I got the salmon dish. Really good, but I want to say I think they made the salsa up using pineapple large pieces of green and red pepper and I'm not sure what else. It really wasn't a salsa. But then again, it tasted good. Another person and I party got a turkey club. It was massive. The shepherds pie was good says my mate. It was made with lamb and veal as well as potatoes and corn. It looked really good too. And I'm not a shepherds pie fan. All in all we did get out on time, but I felt truly rushed once our food arrived. Sometimes I switch the potatoes for their rice pilaf, also very good. For my mom, I order the ravioli appetizer w mushroom and spinach in a wine sauce. All their food is fresh and delicious. My husband likes the steak over a bed of greens and w a plate of grilled vegetables on the side. The dinner portions are huge and usually enough for two meals. Price gouging and shrinkflashion at its worst and the food was not good. Went there today got a chicken sandwich. It was literally 1/8" thin and totally dry and came with about 10 French fries. Wife got pastrami sandwich which was tough and came with 10 French fries. The worst was the fountain drink I got. It was about a 12oz cup filled with ice and some soda. It took about 4 sips to finish it so I got a refill. When we got the bill it was $3.11 x 2 ($6.22) for my drink. This is the only restaurant I've been in that doesn't give free refills on fountain drinks. Nevermind the fact that over $3.00 for a fountain soda is ridiculous. So for 1 Chicken sandwich 1 pastrami sandwich 2 fountain drinks and 1 tap water it was just under $40 without the tip. I understand prices are high everywhere but Kamala Harris and the price gouging police should pay a visit to Swanton St diner, but I will not be visiting there again. The place that I usually like to go to was too packed so we googled and found this gem just off the beaten path in Winchester. It was small and cozy with a welcoming interior. People were eating at the counter while a steady flow of patrons came through the door. We were seated immediately and brought our coffees quick. The breakfast menu was simple but had an excellent selection of breakfast goodies at a very fair price. I had the Lobster Benedict w/ asparagus. My friend had a spinach and fetta omelet. There was a little bit of a wait but it was worth it. Cindy, our waitress, was superwoman, seating people, filling coffees, taking orders, bringing the food, she even asked me if I wanted more hollandaise sauce (yes please) - just amazing. I might not order it again- tasty, plated nicely but not what I expected. I was put off by a service fee on the check. It was nominal, however I would prefer places just fold it into their pricing, and definitely take measures to announce before (I may have missed it). I understand the supply chain issues during the pandemic may have made this necessary but that is getting to be in our rear view at this point. Wow, people have really been hating on this place! I'm surprised, I love Swanton Street Diner. Maybe I'm a bit biased, though. Growing up within spitting distance of this place, I've probably been here close to 35 times. Hell, I remember when it used to be called Papa's Pantry and my sister and I would get chocolate chip Mickey Mouse pancakes every visit without fail. My sweet tooth has since then diminished. Yup, now at age 22 all I ever crave is carbs and cheese =D Nowadays I usually come here on those special mornings (well, more like afternoons) when I don't feel like cooking, want to indulge, and have already had Bagel Land twice that weekend. Either that or my parents are treating me to lunch or dinner. Back in my early high school days when I was a chunker, I'd usually get the Contractor's Breakfast, which is basically 3 of everything with a side of home fries. Now I usually stick with a broccoli spinach mushroom onion cheese omelette, or eggs benedict when I'm feeling naughty. Whether you're here for breakfast, lunch or dinner, whatever you feel like indulging in is sure to be great at the Swanton Street Diner. And it'll be affordable, too. I'll admit that the service can be hit or miss, but the older lady with short blonde hair and the beaded rat tail is beyond adorable. My folks go here for dinner more than I do, and they recommend the lobster roll, grilled salmon, any steak dish, and Wild Mushroom Chicken Romano. Besides breakfast, my all-time fave is the Seafood Risotto, which includes generous chunks of lobster claw meat, calamari, shrimp and scallops. It can also be made with linguini if you prefer it that way. I'm sure other Yelpers aren't lying about their poor experiences here, but I've never had an issue so I'm sticking by my 4-star rating. read more

Came in on a Friday night to try the diner down the street. I will say that the service and staff were friendly and attentive. Just the food was really disappointing. On our visit they were out of a few items we asked for on the menu. While the menu here is expansive for a place of this size, they would probably be better served with a smaller higher quality menu. They do serve beer and wine. I also hear they do brunch. I will update if I ever give it a try. Steak Tips - They were cooked fine, so was the flavoring. However it was nothing I couldn't have done at home. The sides were risotto and mashed potatoes. The first was more like instant rice, no flavor of risotto I've ever had. The mashed potatoes had a parts that were chunky and filmy, like it was left under a heat lamp for too long. Lobster Bisque - Didn't like it. Tasted fresh out of a can. No traces of lobster. Grilled Shrimp Appetizer - it came in a scampi style broth and a few pieces of garlic bread. This didn't look grilled but it was definitely my favorite item. read more
