The care was OK, but parts of it were surprising. Specifically, Swedish allows high school and college age volunteers to take vital signs, bathe patients, feed them, help them use the toilet, change their hospital gowns, watch them get medical procedures, even discharge them. So the persons you think are your "nurses" could well be 16-to-20-year-olds who've had 20 or so hours of training and no licensing of any kind. They are supervised, however. Is this what you expect when you're paying big bucks for care at a major hospital? This is happening because Swedish takes part in the COPE Health Scholars program. You can look it up online. This program places young volunteers in selected hospitals (after cautioning them they'll see patient nudity and disturbing medical conditions). The program is a way to: 1) get lots of free labor, 2) introduce eager young people to possible medical careers. It's not unusual for hospitals to have volunteers who do simple stuff like restocking supplies. But allowing them to take vital signs and do hands-on intimate patient care? Wow! Sure hope these kids know what they're doing. read more

Dr great. Surgery went well. Don't know why I was put in ICU for post op recovery no one checked on me in 1 1/2 hrs. Asked to have bed lowered & was told I had to ask to get out of bed ok but I was never told that by condescending nurse. So If I call you to get out of bed will l have to wait ahour & half???? I work around here (but not for Swedish) and end up riding the elevators several times a day and checking out the cafeteria a few times a week. So for the casual visitor, this review is for you! - Avoid the pharmacy staff; they don't really like to help people who aren't getting non-hospital prescriptions. But they probably don't like to help people who are getting hospital prescriptions, either. - The cafeteria chocolate pudding is a solid B- - You can't take the stairs to most floors. I don't know which ones but don't tell me I didn't warn you. - From what I observe, at obligatory times, hospital staff sanitize hands about 80% of the time. It's fun to guess who is part of that filthy 20%. - Look at the pictures of past nursing grads on the first floor, near the cafeteria and gift shop. Then visit the gift shop to buy cards with the same type of photos, captioned with bland messages about accepting old age. - You can't adopt a grandparent but you can talk with the senior volunteers. I suggest chatting up the little old ladies. But not in a gross way. - Many times people are stressed out about a loved one being ill or undergoing treatment. So if you are irritated at all about being in a hospital, take the Katy Cherry Hill Tour: buy a coffee from Starbucks on the first floor. Exit the main circle drive entrance, by foot. Take the walkway down to the main street. As you pass my multiple smokers, give them your meanest dirty look. Start early so you can catch their gaze. Perhaps point out they are disgusting for breaking rules and show by exaggerated coughing/wheezing that you can't breathe. Repeat how they should be ashamed. Suggest where they should stow cigarettes. Then, breathe a little easier. It's like an emotional stress ball. Have a smoke, you've earned it. read more

I have had the WORST experience at this location. I tried switching to a primary care doctor here because it's nearer to my apartment. Big mistake. My first appointment, I was stuck waiting 45 minutes to see the doctor. Our appointment was then cut short and I didn't have time to address all my concerns. The person who drew my blood ignored my comment about being nervous due to bad blood draw experiences in the past. She just said "I'm ready now" and jammed the needle in my arm. My whole upper arm turned black from bruising which took 2 weeks to clear, and I couldn't raise my arm above shoulder height the whole time. It has now been 3 weeks and I still have not been called or had my online chart updated with the blood results. I am currently on hold, having called the center four different times and been rerouted to four different incorrect places (medical records office, dead end, dead end, voicemail). I will not be coming here again. Unfortunately, with ACA, I don't have a lot of choice of good doctors' offices in the area. read more

This is hands done the most cruel and heartless place I have ever even heard of. My brother is scheduled for surgery here because he has a broken neck with floating bone fragments and he has been here for a day already waiting for the surgery. I showed up to see him and was greeted by the sounds of him crying out for help in agony! When I entered his room I could clearly see that he was in excruciating pain! His nurse (rude black lady with white hands) came in because she knew he had visitors, not because he was in pain. My Mother and I asked her why my Brother was in so much pain... they are supposed to help you in the hospital.... the nurse spoke to us like she hated our white skin more than she hates the white skin on her hands. I know that dealing with people in pain must be difficult but that's the carrier path you chose. She laughed and said that she already gave him enough meds!? Obviously, she is not a doctor and clearly she didn't see his prescription history because he has a very high tolerance to pain medication! Not to mention, HE IS SCREAMING IN PAIN!!!! We asked to speak with his doctor so we could explain why he is still in excruciating pain even though they had already given him what would still barely help a normal tolerance patient. His doctor did not even come to face us, instead she just ordered a small dose of another medication that will also do nothing for his condition. (At least she did that) this is what the world has come to... people who don't need medication have been prescribed them so much that Congress has gotten involved and changed the prescription drug laws to the point where doctors are to afraid of losing their jobs to actually prescribe them to people that are in PAIN! This is such utter nonsense! I feel that his nurse had obvious hate in her heart for Caucasian people regardless of the content of their character. If you or a loved one are in need of any medical care in Seattle Washington, DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL!!!! Go to Harborview or Swedish on Broadway. I will update this review after his surgery if he is treated well or after any legal litigation has ended to inform the public of the outcome. read more

This location includes many different clinics and services, as well as some independent medical practices in the offices building. They've had a great revival since Swedish bought out what used to be Providence Hospital, the first hospital in Seattle. They also have a great ER. And a small but lively Starbucks. We've been using the "Swedish Family Medicine at Cherry Hill" clinic for 20+ years. (On the ground floor of the lowest level, next to the ER entrance.) They are a teaching facility with a specialty of Family Medicine. They have about 20 residents there for three years each, as well as medical students doing rotations from University of Washington. You need to put up with a bit of bureaucracy, but they take you regardless of your type of medical coverage. If you have no money, they'll help get you on a state plan. We're a tech family, so we run the income gamut over time. It's nice to know we can go there no matter what. They give referrals to other doctors all over town when you need them. They're very much plugged in to the Seattle medical scene. Among the permanent doctors who teach the residents, there's a Naturopathic Medical Doctor there (Dr. Sethie) who trained with Dr. Weil in his clinic in Arizona. She's the real deal. Or you can get more traditional medical care if you wish. Haven't seen anyplace else like it. Glad they're there. read more

For six weeks Seattle's Swedish Cherry Hill Clinic - its ER team - its Family Clinic - at FIrst Hill ER and at the Cherry Hill ED and Cherry Hill clnic -from April 20th until May 31st they told me I had no infection - but in August (2017) I read the medical record and there was a positive result for MSSA that I was never told about from that very first ER trip on April 20th. Despite being warned by the x-ray doctor that an infection so recent would not show up on an x-ray they used that instead of a necessary MRI or bone probe to determine I was not infected - even with a foot with gangrene - macerated to the bone - and the initiai asseessment and repeat ER admission on April 25th being that I had cellutlis and in danger of Osteo. --- No ABX on 4.21 discharge (not even as a precaution) - I AM VERY LUCKY TO HAVE LIVED - I did lose two toes - and I think this was completely unnecessary I HAD A VERY TREATABLE INFECTION THAT THEY IGNORED - WERE DISMISSIVE OF - AND EVEN BLAMED ME FOR NON-COMPLIANCE WITH ABX I WAS NOT PRESCRIBED!! read more

This has been my primary care facility for four years. I have seen several doctors who have all been great. They take time to meet with me during an office visit and don't treat me like they are superior to me (like at some other offices...) I also went here when I had a knee injury, and I was able to see a sports specialist and get a referral to a surgeon. I would give it five stars if it wasn't for the office staff in front; not very friendly or helpful. For example, last time I went in, they wanted me to sign something saying I had received a copy of the "Notice of Health Information Practices," without providing me the notice. I had to argue with two different staff members to get a copy. read more

After a few minutes with the doctor at Swedish Poly clinic, we were little more at ease. I have nothing but praise for the family services clinic at the cherry hill branch of Swedish Medical Center. Last year, my pap came back abnormal, and I was absoluly terrified. I was referred here for a colposcopy by Aurora Medical Services. The entire staff was fantastic and really made me feel at ease. The doctor, nurse, and rest of the staff were all very nice. Even for people without insurance, this clinic is very reasonable. It is a teaching hospital, and I was a little apprehensive about a student watching the procedure, but everyone was so nice and umderstanding I forgot she was even there. I reccommend this clinic to women especially. read more

Very recently had lumbar spinal fusion surgery, overall one of the worst medical experiences of my life of either myself or family. At no point was I given detailed information as to what the surgery involved except that a spacer would be put in as well as several screws and rods. I would have surgery in the morning and be walking by afternoon. Not being of the "information" generation prior to surgery I had no idea all of this was on the internet. Now if someone in the surgeons office, anyone, would have suggested a particular site I would have gone in to this procedure with more confidence or trepidation but informed. At SOME point in the process I expected that some information would be imparted, I was asked did I have any question but expecting that surely I would be given an explanation even as I was being transferred from the gurney to the operating table, Without information I had little idea of what questions to ask, rather naive but there it is. A pamphlet something!! Surgery was not until afternoon, apparently it is a mill and one must wait for an opening. I didn't come out of recovery until early evening and then for some reason it was too late to get me up to walk. I was therefore stuck with a very uncomfortable catheter all night and the explanation from the nurse was "because you can't walk". No information on this procedure either nor did I give my authorization for the catheter. Two days after surgery I developed some extreme swelling off my back and buttocks. The following day I tried calling the numbers given to me should anything go wrong, message: call this number, another message call this number. Apparently you are suppose to go to the ER. Called primary care provider instead. Long story short here - no one knew what was wrong!! Had Xray, CT scan and MRI and refused 2 suggestions of being readmitted for obs ervation. I am just hoping the surgeons skill and the technologies at Swedish Cherry Hill will give me a good outcome but the experience was not good. I would just like to shout-out to Swedish at Cherry Hill for being so, so friendly to mobility-challenged patients. I'm recently disabled and still not used to my new limitations. I was feeling pretty panicky about whether I would be able to walk all the way across the campus from the parking garage to the sleep center, but it turned out that they had tons of chairs & benches, of a variety of heights and widths, both with arms and without, throughout the campus. In the halls, in the waiting areas, even in the skybridge from the parking lot. So that any time I needed to sit and take a break there was a comfortable option immediately available that I could fit into. It might seem like a little thing but it meant that I got to make my own way on my own terms without feeling either humiliated or needy; and I got to arrive at my appointment like a human being instead of like a wheezy bucket of cold sweat and screaming nerve endings. It made the whole experience so much more pleasant. Thank you! read more

This hospital was fabulous for rehab for my husband after he had a stroke at the end of our Alaska cruise. The therapy and therapists were the best anywhere. My husband was walking long distances and up and stairs in less than two weeks. They did aggressive therapy with therapy seven days a week. That is the answer for recovery for the brain to recircuit after a stroke. Dr. Moo and Dr. Lim were very intelligent, compassionate, and thorough. The whole experience at Swedish Cherry Hill was positive. The nurses were so nice and efficient. The hospital was very quiet and the food was great. This Alabama couple felt loved and well cared for. Stay away, especially from the Neuro Science Dept!!! A friend recently spent 4 days there, with lots of tests, and almost ZERO Dr interaction. A complete waste of time. Read Seattle Times articles published February 8, 2017 (there were 2), exposing Dr. Johnny Delashaw, who runs the department. It's a money machine. They are incentivized by tests/procedures that are not always in the patient's best interest. Kind of surprised that Swedish supports this. FIRE THAT DR before more people die!! read more

After getting through the paperwork at swedish Ellen is wonderful. Well worth fighting through Seattle traffic and battling for parking spaces. I am always sore after seeing her and am making good progress. She is innovative and a master of her craft. Parking tips, the lot under the hospital is often full, requiring a hard to make u turn at the bottom of the driveway. Also it only accepts cash ($7.50) for 2 hours. The parking structure just outside the hospital is the same price but takes cash or credit but requires you walk across the entire hospital to get to Physical Therapy. (about a city block) It is inconvenient but if you want the best its where you need to go. Be well read more

Do not take your disabled child this ER. The doctor didn't listen to us as parents. we explained our child's history of ear infections and severe hearing loss. We were told to take a "conservative" approach and they did nothing except administer acetaminiphen for his high fever. As if I hadn't already been doing that! This ER doctor allowed a disabled 4 year old boy with severe hearing loss to suffer needlessly for days before both ear drums burst. Accountability for greivance of piss poor care was even worse. The hospital investigated themselves and reached the obvious conclusion that they have awesome care and I'm a shitty parent. read more

I had a procedure done here by Dr. Julie K Taraday almost four months ago.. I have NOT received the results from this procedure. NO ONE will call me back. I was billed $500 for this procedure. Today I received a phone call from a Cellnetix Pathology and Laboratories saying that I owe them $1,100 in Lab fees from the aforementioned procedure and that I have been sent to collections for not paying.... How is this possible? I have NEVER even received a letter or statement saying that I owed anything with regards to these labs. This place is a disorganized mess. I came to them for help about my health. Instead, I just had an invasive procedure done with ZERO follow up and an enormous BILL! Unbelievably unprofessional. WORST PLACE. Sadly I would not give any stars for what I have to say about the following. If minus stars were available I would give those. When my son was admitted it was presumed by many of the staff, doctors and nurses that he was an IV drug user, probably due to his appearance. Dred locks, very skinny for 6 feet tall and in excruciating pain, that turned out to be from fractured vertebrae, not from some kind of IV drug related problem. He has never been an IV drug user. This apparent presumption has been written up on his medical charts as him having "denied IV drug use", and this has moved with him through each stage of subsequent care. Why would it post as a denial if it hadn't been implied as a condition? A phrase can imply so much while seemingly appearing to convey the opposite. How much damage this has caused in how he is initially recieved by those giving him care is impossible to say. The reported presumption that he is an IV drug user has been directly and specifically challenged and corrected repeatedly by himself and other family members when care providers, at every level, have confronted his presumed IV drug user status. As his family members we all are distressed by his catagorization as an IV drug user. This social and medical connotation is devastating to us and him. We sincerely hope that the incorrect posting of IV drug user, even if it is included as a denial, is permanently removed from his medical charts. As we progress with a cancer diagnosis it will undoubtedly be helpful to keep the truth in the forefront while life changing decisions are made. read more

Came here for a strained muscle in my back and was hoping for some sort of reprieve from the pain. Saw a doctor after waiting in the clinic for a short time so that was fine. First off the doctor did absolutely nothing. I told them of the extreme pain and inability to sleep, etc. Never once did they touch my back or do anything what so ever. They gave me a shot which did nothing and were literally going to send me on my way. At this point I told them that I hadn't slept for days and a quick shot wasn't going to do anything at all. It did nothing to begin with. The doctor (named Carroll B. Olson, do not go to her at ALL) decided to prescribe me 5 tiny muscle relaxers. I'm 6"1' 265 lbs. This is where it quickly went downhill. I have health insurance which I have to pay every month and is not cheap. I pay $200 to leave and I think to myself well that was a huge waste of time and did absolutely nothing. A few weeks later in the mail I get a bill for another $400. FOUR hundred dollars just for going in, with insurance and to have them do nothing. At this point I'm furious. I don't make that kind of money to just spend freely. I'm pretty sure the receptionist makes more than me. But I cough it up because obviously I can't just NOT pay. THE FINAL KICKER. Today in the mail I get a bill for $118 from Swedish THREE months after my initial visit. I'm totally shocked and think there must/has to be some sort of mistake. After scanning the bill looking for what could possibly be the charges I find that it's from non-other than the Doctor herself Carroll B Olson!!! That original bill was for $152 but my insurance cut it down to $118. I've never heard of such a freaking thing in my life $152 for what? What was the original $600 I paid for? WALKING IN THE DOOR?????!!!!!! Will never ever go here again unless it's for some sort of life threatening injury and there is literally nowhere else to go. I will never recommend this place to anyone. Go anywhere else but here if you have something minor to take care of. read more

Where do I start, in my praise of the Neuro ICU and rehab staff at Swedish Hospital/Cherry Hill? My mom came in with an acute subdural hematoma, and because of the expert work of this staff, she's getting ready to go home. Dr. Monteith, Dr. Mo (sp?), David, Richard, Stephen, Michelle, Lin, innumerable PTs and OTs... the amount of compassion and attention of this group is just so wonderful. A special mention to case managers, Claudia Butler and John Delfeld, who accomplish so much, yet make you feel as though your time and concerns are their priorities. They know what they're doing here. From Mark Bonnema's sensitivity and compassionate pastoral presence, to David (last name?), who answers the phone with a friendly voice, this is a team that works. The room was quite dirty and I found blood looking stuff smeared around the room, asked for them to please clean it and they left it, once I moved out they immediately moved someone else in without cleaning it. read more

The nurses were thoughtful, caring and considerate. The main surgeon unfortunately was dishonest with me. After an eight hour surgery in which my skull was partially removed and I had a nine inch scar, he told me he removed the entire tumor from the base of my skull and the tumor was benign. Over a year later I discovered when I had a second surgery at a different hospital the original surgeon had never touched the tumor at all! In fact, what was removed was not even a tumor. So I was led to believe for an entire year that the tumor had been removed and it never had been. The surgeon knew the truth when he read the pathology report but kept the news to himself. I also learned at my second surgery that one of my cranial nerves had been cut during the first surgery. I now live with chronic pain from the surgery in the right side of my face/head and my shoulder has limited strength and range and is constantly in pain from the first surgery. My tumor was discovered by a fluke in ruling out a severe case of motion sickness with a brain MRI. I had gone into my first surgery symptom free and have suffered every day since and will continue suffering from the first surgery for the rest of my life. I am very unhappy and dissatisfied. I wish I had been told the truth up front instead of being misled. Medical experts have reviewed my case and determined the care did not fall below the standard level of care. I am appalled that a surgeon can tell a patient a tumor was removed and never remove the tumor, cause damage to the patient and it is okay?!&* read more

I went to the ER and the staff moved me to an exam room very quickly my nurse Patty was great and really set my mind at ease. After an Alaskan cruise, my husband ended up at Swedish Cherry Hill with Legionella pneumonia. We had a fantastic experience on the 4th floor. Since we live several thousand miles away, I stayed one floor up at the Inn of Cherry Hill, a former convent room. What a wonderful convenience!!!! We were there for ten nights and I spent most of the time in his room, visiting with various staff members, many from foreign countries and very interesting to hear their stories. The two hospitalists were very good, explained necessary tests and what was going on. The cafeteria food was exceptional!!!! The gift shop was a little boutique and I bought alot of things. All in all, a great experience under difficult circumstances. read more

Swedish has quality doctors, especially in the Cardiology departments but the Hospital staff, especially some of the nurses, can be pretty horrible. A lot of them lack compassion and want to make their jobs as easy as possible, which usually presents itself as poor patient care. There is an occasional jewel in this pack but that hardly makes up for the bad ones, of which there is an abundance. My mother has been in and out of Swedish Cherry Hill, Swedish Issaquah and Valley Medical Center over the past year and Swedish Cherry Hill is the worst. She had to wait 4 hours for pain medication even though the pain medication she was requesting had already been prescribed, thus the excessive wait time was extremely frustrating. Leaving a crying patient in pain for 4 hours is just cruel and absolutely unacceptable in a hospital. I finally found the charge nurse, myself in tears after watching my mother's suffering, and asked them to discharge my mother so I could take her to another hospital or even home to manage her pain myself before he finally got off his rear-end and attempted to help us. HORRIFIC!!! Compassion would seem like a vital aspect of patient care but at Swedish Hospitals compassion is a luxury that not everyone receives consistently. If you have to see a Swedish surgeon or specialty doctor (they are some of the best) accept that you'll likely get top notch care from the doctor themselves but once in a hospital room, you will need extra help from your family or friends. Don't count on receiving decent care from the hospital staff because you likely won't get it, or at best, you'll only receive decent care intermittently. read more
