Food is always good but the service is not. The last few times I have gone in to get a loaf of bread, I've had to wait 10 minutes. The person tells me it will be about 3-4 minutes, but it takes much longer. I'm the only person waiting and employees are sitting there talking instead of making my order. My husband and I decided to stop by Sweedish Hill on our E-bike ride. When we walked in at around 3:45 there was a short wait to order as there were a few people in front of us. They have a menu with Soups, Salads, Sandwiches, Rotisserie, Bagels, Toasts, and Breakfast Items. They also have a drink menu with Coffee, Tea, Juice, Wine, Cocktails, Beer, and a few non alcoholic drinks. They also have Daily Bread that you could buy. We were kindly greeted and asked what we wanted. We decided to try pastries. We ordered one Everything Croissants, one Buckwheat and Jam Scone, one Kouign Amann, and two Ham and Gruyere Croissant. The Ham and Gruyere Croissant was good. The Croissant was crispy and light. The ham was plentiful and the cheese was melted inside. The combination of the Ham and Gruyere cheese made for a delightful sandwich. The Kouign Amann was delicious. My husband and I agreed that it was our favorite. It had a sweet but not overly sweet flavor. It was soft and flaky with a hint of butter. A delicious combination of ingredients. The Buckwheat Jam Scone was really sweet. The Buckwheat tasted grainy but the jam was super sweet. A yummy combination of ingredients. The Everything Croissant was soft with flaky, layers and the top was covered in seeds. The seeds gave the crossaint texture and the seasoning gave it flavor. Overall it was a good place to stop. The service was decent and the pastries were good. Swedish Hill has finally arrived at Westlake and... it's aite. I had high hopes for the new location of this popular bakery and even went back a second time to confirm my thoughts. On my first visit, I ordered the Loyal Forever Bowl. The salad was super acidic with large amounts of pickles and vinaigrette, which could've been balanced out with some dry or crunchier ingredients. I'm not even sure if mine came with the charred cauliflower, tbh. Too overpriced at $16, especially when Flower Child is just minutes away. On my next visit, I decided to switch things up and try their pastries and coffee. Unfortunately, the cinnamon roll was served cold and the Americano tasted more like coffee flavored tea -- way too much water. The seasoning of the everything croissant was v tasty, but the pastry itself was stale and didn't have that crispy/flaky bite. To end on a more positive note, the cafe is very aesthetic and surrounded by cute boutiques and local businesses. Despite the long lines, service is also pretty quick and we found seating both times. Maybe third time's a charm and our next trip to Swedish Hill will be more successful! read more

Love this location because parking is easy and free (unlike their other locations in town). The staff is very nice and kept the line moving especially during lunch rush. It's fine. It's a cute location and all, and the people who work there are super friendly. I actually really like their swedish iced coffee which has like coconut and oat milk (im usually a black cold brew guy). I got the egg salad sandwich which was fine. The bagel was like pretty hard so made it tough to eat. $14 for egg salad on a bagel (yes it has bacon but they forgot my bacon but were so nice about it and made up for it) really takes down the rating. Like, $10 sure. Pastry was also fine, but my main thing are the prices for the food. There's not really a reason for it to be so expensive or else it would be a solid 4 star joint. I'd probably return but there's other options in Westlake (maybe not for the vibe though so there's that)- like for bagel sandwichs a Brueggers or Einsteins is better..I think there's a Summer Moon not so far away also....not sure about pastries..i would probably come by and have the coffee again and just chill there while thinking about the cool stuff to get at Breed & Co, and then hit up Baldinuccis for pizza or the McDonalds - I really love that Westlake McDonalds! Anyway, so Swedish HIll is a fine option and all, especially for the Westlake crowd. Like, I *love* Abby Jane and pony up for their pastries and baked goods for a reason, but not sure I want to here. Swedish Hill on Bee Cave Road is a beautiful café and bakery in a breezy, relaxed space--especially if you grab a seat on the patio, which is definitely a local favorite. Great spot for meeting friends, reading over coffee, or a casual brunch. Their coffee is excellent--smooth and consistently well made, and their iced drinks are just as good. One standout from the menu is the beet salad--fresh, vibrant, and thoughtfully composed with just the right balance of textures and flavor. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the limited selection of gluten-free options. What they do offer is great, but I'd love to see more gluten-free baked goods or brunch dishes on the menu. That said, what's here is high quality, and the ambiance is hard to beat. This space, close to Breed & Co. in Westlake, is bright and open w seating inside and out. There is counter service, seat yourself, and food is delivered to your table. The long line when we arrived moved pretty quickly. And the kitchen was quick, too, as there was not a long wait for our food. The selection of fresh baked pastries is over the top! We shared a Nutella croissant, which was delicious. My breakfast sandwich--an everything bagel with scrambled eggs and arugula--was made to order and very tasty. My dining partner ordered the breakfast sandwich on a croissant, and it must have been the most buttery croissant either of us had ever seen-- absolutely delicious. I cannot wait to go back and try some of the other items I saw being delivered to the tables around us. This is a great spot for a cup of coffee and a pastry or a full meal. Busy weekend stop but the pastries are big, fresh and tasty. The ham and cheese croissant is a decadent treat. Cookies as large as a grown adult's face, and a chocolate croissant that is pure luxury. I like Swedish hill pastries - croissants, kouign amann - they are top tier in Austin where true flaky croissants are not easy to come by. Other contenders are probably Bakery Lorraine and Sour duck. Ratings for just croissants alone will be 4/5. This place is very crowded even on a Monday. The inside shop smells very strong of ham/toasted savory sandwich and the smell can really get on your clothes. It is also super loud inside - the same issue at the downtown Swedish hill, they gotta do better sound control. Outside seating is a better option on a nice weather day. Coffee was pretty good but I got a cappuccino that spilled when they brought it out to me and they didnt even bother to clean up. Service is a little chaotic imo. Usually SH is a successful eating experience!!! Excellent coffee, Wonderful pastries and a FABULOUS avo toast so as I said earlier I was surprised ~ I ordered BLAT (bacon,lettuce, avocado & tomato) sandwich and a side of potato salad. The potato salad an ample portion was so salty!!! I thought maybe pepper would help, alas no the salt was not added by me but served that way. My sandwich was eatable but I cannot say much more than that. The bacon pretty tasteless, and the mayo had a flavor in it maybe citrus? can't be sure, maybe it was the bread? I've been a Swedish Hill fan for years--back when it was run by two Swedish ladies and lovingly known as "Sweetish Hill," all the way to now, as a booming Austin staple. While I will admit the quality of some items has dipped slightly over time, it's still consistently good, especially considering how busy they are. I was so excited when they opened a location in Westlake--an area that could really use more Austin-born spots like this. The new location took over the old Blue Dahlia space, so it's a bit tight inside given the crowd it draws, but it's super cute and stays true to their updated aesthetic. What prompted me to write this review, though, was the service. As I mentioned, they're often swamped, and during my visit, I had ordered a loaf of sourdough and waited a while. When I asked one of the team members about it, she was so kind and helpful--it really stood out. Wait until the end! I ordered the chicken salad pesto sandwich. Now the sound of it I'm like okay could be amazing. When it arrived I was so sad....it was literally just on white sandwich bread and like a tuna sandwich but with chicken instead. Luckily by bf got the Italian so that made up for it. Now here is the interesting part. I just saw on TikTok what it was supposed to be like. It supposed to have actual pesto, cheese, AND chips on it too. I ordered two baguettes which cost $19 without tip. Ok I thought they better be amazing. They were dry and had a cardboard after taste. Never again and the price was outrageous. What's there not to love! Best bakery in town! The flakes on that croissant were to die for! Crisp yet soft and it literally melts in your mouth! Even their everything croissant was unreal! Every pasty I have had was out of the world! Service was impeccable! They were so so soooooo busy we stood in line for over 20mins to order, yet they didn't mess up the order and get everything to us correctly! So impressive how patient they were and how accurate the servers were! There were so many of them! This place is well staffed! Impressive how coordinated they were and worked like orchestra Ambience is where they could do better! Don't get me wrong, is a beautiful bakery, but it's loud beyond words and the process is overwhelming I love this place but the thought to go there with the craziness of nerve wrecking. I mean I'm exhausted just thinking about standing in that line again! And the anxiety of scoring a table is not worth it after a while. They need a bigger location and better process ... Love this location so much! The food is consistently delicious and the outdoor area is so cute. Unfortunately, inside is way too loud so I'll usually grab takeaway if there's no room outside. Also, so glad they recently added corn tortillas which are fantastic. It can get super busy which most people aren't used to in Westlake but just a reflection of how great the food is that people will wait in a line that goes out the door. The only downside (minus the prices), is that their coffee is truly awful. The espresso is fine but they don't pour true doubles so any espresso drink tastes super milky and their drip coffee is undrinkable in my opinion. Also, if you're going to charge $6+ for a cup of coffee, at least make it organic! Overall, great addition to the neighborhood. Also, shoutout to the wait staff is who always working so hard to clear tables and keep them clean. I always notice when I'm there that they go above and beyond. read more

I really hope their management reads people's reviews because I want this place to do better. I enjoy their food so keep trying again. Ordered pick up for instance and the Ceasar salad I ordered was packed in a stapled bag so I assumed all that was needed was checked and ready to go, but Ceasar salad had no dressing on it and none in the bag. Kind of defeats the purpose of a ceasar salad. I also ordered a tabbouleh sald as well. Which was basically just all couscous pasta with a sprinkle of parsley leaves, parsley wasn't even chopped, some halved black olives and halved tomatoes. Not a tabbouleh salad. So when you order one thing and get different things, not good expecerience for Food service. I hope they read and try to improve things there. Happy there is a new full service location before 6th street fully opens again. There is a long line as was always the case in the other location too but it always moves fast. The challenge is always finding seating. This location is bright with outdoor and indoor seating. Same friendly staff and great coffee/ pastry options. This place is the epitome of discomfort, high prices and elitism. Let me explain, you order at a counter but have to yell over the music and the patrons. The hard flooring makes it extremely loud, want a table, grab a number and walk around like an idiot because there won't be one. If you can get over the sticker shock of 8.00 mediocre coffee and a 16.00 granola bowl, hold onto your hat because they only serve granola until 11. Why? Because that's what pretentious places do, of course. So assume you are one of the lucky ones who doesn't have to smash against the wall waiting for your food and actually find a seat. I heard that the parking was crowded, difficult to get in for lunch so I went with a friend during what I considered off hours which was 10:30 am to 11:00 am. It was packed full of women!! The acoustics are terrible so it was extremely loud. I could not hear my friend talking. My egg salad sandwich had no egg salad on it. It was about a tablespoon of egg salad mixed with arugula lettuce, Because I was still hungry, I ordered a chocolate bar with peanut butter on top, a cappuccino with oat milk Again both were very disappointing. The chocolate bar was tasteless. I could not taste chocolate or peanut butter. The cappuccino was also disappointing. It tasted mostly like oat milk. I could not taste the coffee. Everyone that works there's was very friendly and helpful but I do not plan to return.
