Might be my favorite bakery in Austin. A lot of coffee shops don't have any solid food or snack options, and a lot of bakeries dont have solid coffee. Nates baked goods does both exceptionally well. Their coffee is solid and they have not just sweets but also savory food options. I'm a big fan of their sandwiches. The service is great, staff is always helpful and kind. They also have a good amount of seating. Parking can sometimes be tricky. read more

Nate's is located on west 6th I went on a Wed morning and there were some people working in the shop on their laptops. The shop is small with some street parking available. I could see it being really busy on a weekend. I ordered one of the seasonal lattes: The Maple Orchard The maple really hit on this one and it is a sweet coffee. If you're into maple flavored coffee this one is very solid. I would get it again. For food I ordered the ham and swiss biscuit. The biscuit was flaky, soft and very tasty. This local business has everything you're looking for a grab and go bakery/coffee shop. They have varieties of bakery items from kolaches to frosted cookies for sale. read more

Super cute little place. Googled a coffee shop while my car was getting washed and they popped up. I walked over so didn't get to glimpse the parking situation. They are located at the end/corner of a deadened street. Upon entering their menu is up above on chalk boards and they have quite a selection. Same with the bake goods, all looked yummy. I got a plain drip coffee with creamer & sugar and then the ham and cheese turnover. The coffee was tasty, no complaints. the ham and cheese turnover came out warm and was good, there is a heavier pastry to meat/cheese ratio and there were a few spots that didn't quite get warm. Overall tasty though. Took about 5-8 minutes for the food to come out. I sat inside at one of the window seats looking out. I saw a make shift bird feeder outside one of the windows with birds coming by to grab a bite. Outside seating looked nice as well if you have a few extra peeps. They got very busy after I arrived so I had perfect timing. read more

I've known Nate and Susan for a while, but this was the first time I'd been able to make it into their shop! We came by early in the morning on a Friday after finishing up a yoga class next door at Black Swan. We were warmly greeted and our order was taken promptly. The coffee and cappuccino were good, but it was really the homey atmosphere and good vibes that made our visit great. The staff was friendly, and the location is so cute but this was probably the worst coffee & matcha I've had. I hate giving bad reviews but I hope this helps the business; if you are not a certified or trained barista you shouldn't be serving/making coffee. I'm happy to pay the price for a GOOD cup of coffee, but not for watered down burnt coffee. So we had the sausage cheese croissant which my daughter did not enjoy. I had a ham and Swiss cheese that tasted a day old. And my husband had a fruit danish. Which was served cold. The pecan coffee I had didn't taste one bit of pecan. Again my daughter didn't like the matcha drink she ordered. She said it had chunks at the bottom. So it was not even stirred correctly. Ordered an iced cappuccino and I enjoyed it - one of the better ones I have had in Austin. Coffee was not burnt and did not have to wait too long. Nate's had been recommended to me for their GF baked goods. When I first saw the case, I was disappointed the assortment wasn't a bit larger. But quality makes up for quantity here. This little unassuming bakery & coffee shop is tucked away in the corner nearby Better Half and Hold Out Brewing. I pretty sure the housing structure was maintained from what may have been a family residence, so it can be very easy to miss. BUT this also plays to Nate's benefit, creating a cozy, homey atmosphere. All the servers are incredibly sweet and accommodating as well. If there is one thing you come here for, it is the SuperBun Breakfast Sandwich. This sandwich is just so unbelievably well-crafted: smoked pimento cheese, a perfectly shaped egg frittata, all on a glazed bun. If you ask me, just pay the extra dollars for the smoked brisket and avocado. You seriously will not regret it. It also comes with your choice of a mild or spicy salsa on the side (get the spicy). I also recently got the oatmeal cream cookie, which was quite delicious! So the reason I give this place 4 stars is that everything else is just decent. Their lattes? good. The scones and biscuits? Also good (I think they can be a bit on the dry side). But the magic SuperBun??? This one item carries this whole bakery. Mad props to the chefs who came up with and execute this sandwich. read more

Came here for breakfast and coffee this morning after my physical therapy appointment as I saw they had gluten free baked goods and it was only a few minutes away. The bakery/coffee shop is very cute and there was free street parking and a parking garage available, which is always nice to find downtown! Seating is available inside and outside, with a fairly decent amount of space. I was there around 9:06 am and it was pretty crowded inside and outside, but most people seemed to "grab and go" so the space quickly cleared out. There was about a 3-4 minute wait to order, so things were moving pretty quickly. Unfortunately, while ordering went quickly, nothing else did. My order was placed at 9:09 am for a 16 oz Lavender Latte, a gluten free Cinnamon Roll, and a gluten free Whopper Muffin. My coffee was made at 9:24 and my food took about 5 more minutes for them to package. I almost though they forgot about my order because the food was already prepared and on display, so really no prep was needed. Definitely frustrating, because the crowd had already died down by this point. I did take my order to go, and the packaging they have is quite cute. I assume they only use to-go cups and containers, as I didn't see any reusable dishes (although I could be wrong). I won't lie, I was really unimpressed by the food and coffee. The cinnamon roll was decent, but not something I would go out of my way to order again. Sweet was the overwhelming flavor and the texture of the pastry itself was quite grainy. The coffee itself was quite bitter and I even questioned if it was maybe a little burnt. I'm a big fan of lavender lattes and this one was a disappointment for me and didn't pack a punch. I had the muffin with my lunch and while this one had the most potential, my muffin was completely burnt on the bottom and the entire muffin was very hard and dry. While the inside and the top of the muffin tasted amazing, it was really disappointing to realize the entire bottom of the muffin was over cooked and burnt. While I really enjoy that they offer gluten free options and have a fun (and a bit funky) aesthetic as a coffee shop, this experience was quite a bit disappointing for me. I would probably not recommend coming here if you're looking for gluten-free pastries and I'm not sure I'd come back for a coffee either. read more

Well, I came in for the "famous gluten free cinnamon roll" but when I walked in they were just uncovered right next to the register...and my heart sank. That can't be up acceptable with...um, health codes? Or anyone who doesn't want there food just out...next...to the cashier and all the customers? So my brain was short circuiting about how my whole goal was to get this cinnamon roll and now I needed to pivot but I was skivved out with how many people were over that cinnamon roll and how everything else had a cover?! Why?! Well, I pivoted! I got the breakfast sandwich (spinach, tomato, bacon with pimento cheese on wheat with spicy salsa) and it was WOWZA GREAT. My latte was ok but admittedly I didn't take advantage of the house made syrups or specialty drinks. All and all, I was here for 30ish mins eating, drinking and soaking up the good atmosphere... longing for that cinnamon roll that remained exposed the whole time. I hope an adjustment is made in the future. But until then, my new goal is to get here when they OPEN so the throat-clearing mouth breather next to the cashier won't have gotten to the the famous rolls before me so I can get a taste. If it's half as good as the sandwich, it will be a win! read more

I recently tried this place and it was just okay. We ordered the Charlie Sheen specialty coffee drink, the superbun brisket breakfast sandwich, and the walnut chocolate banana bread. The breakfast sandwich was very good. It lacked some seasoning, but they give you mild or hat sauce for it, which elevates the taste. Overall, 4/5. The banana bread was a 2/5. It was a little dry and lacked banana flavor. The coffee drink was a 0/5. It was supposed to have 4 shots of espresso and it tasted more like iced tap water with chocolate syrup. It did not have any espresso coffee taste and lacked caramel flavor. There was no way this drink had 4 shots of espresso and this was priced at $10, how? We had to drive to Merit Coffee instead to get real coffee. I don't think I will return here. read more

I came here after a morning run and had their Super Bun sandwich -- it was super delicious The whole wheat bun was incredibly soft and provided just the right amount of bread to balance out the strong flavors of the bacon, frittata, and salsa. I most strongly recommend it! The cashier was very friendly and efficient. They also brought our food out on the patio, which was lovely and tucked away from the buzz of 5th St. The whole store has a super cute vibe and I'll be back soon to try some of their baked goods. I went as a group with my friends. My first friend ordered a Seasonal Drink and it was made poorly and tasted like nothing. She ended up eating it .5/10. My other friend got an Iced Matcha Latte with Oat Milk. It ended up being a pre mixed tea instead of ceremonial and properly brewed type of tea. It tasted worse than starbucks matcha she says it tastes like water, gives it a .2/10. Lastly we ordered a white chocolate mocha which at first the cashier said they didn't have, but ended up making anyways, she rates it 6/10. Lastly we also ordered 2 type of foods, a yogurt bowel and a ham and Swiss croissant. They were average and not the best . Update: still amazing, still my favorite coffee spot in ATX. Best iced oat latte hands down. Such a blessing it is right on my way to work so I have an excuse to come almost daily. Finally tried their money/$ muffin and it is amazing. Gf/df made from carrot, squash and zucchini with walnuts and peanut butter--the perfect morning snack, not too sweet. I got my husband the blueberry white chocolate macadamia nut scone and he said it was VERY good. He usually says everything is "not bad" but this earned a "very good". He devoured it. Hands down the best bakery I've tried in Austin. And it's so unassuming, just a little shack by some industrial lot. Everything looks delicious and everything I tried was. Blueberry, White Chocolate Chip & Macadamia Scone: I can see why so many Yelpers like this. It's gotta be the best scone I've ever had. Nothing dry about it. Moist and crumbly throughout with lots of oozy blueberry patches. Also, the fat-heavy white chocolate chips help the texture too. The macadamia pieces seemed a bit tiny though, but noticeable when not overshadowed by nearby blueberries. Cinnamon Roll: Finally a bakery that sells real cinnamon rolls. Not these croissant-like imitations with a little cinnamon and some frosting on top that so many places try to pass off. Here the entire thing is soft and doughy, not flaky at all. And there is so much sugar cinnamon ooze in the many wound up layers. Bonus is that they'll give you the center cinnamon roll if you ask. SuperBun with Smoked Brisket Frittata: It's Texas, why not have brisket for breakfast too? Granted, it's not like wait-in-a-long-line award winning brisket. But its pretty good for a breakfast sandwich. Perfect against the firm eggy frittata square and fluffy mini-bun. Also, love the pimento cheese on the bottom for a cheesy slightly spicy kick. Sausage Cheddar Kolache: The sausage here was like in meatball patty form rather than a link. It actually reminded me of pork dumpling filling. Hidden inside a pastry wrap with a little cheese on top. I actually found it a tad bland by itself, but it was amazing with the hot salsa so don't skip that. Classic Chocolate Chip Cookie: Huge cookie with lots of big chocolate chips. It was on the drier side. Ironically, maybe drier than their scone. But good with coffee. Lil Daddy Cookie: It felt like this cookie had everything in it and then was dipped in chocolate for good measure.
