Just went today to grab some hot chocolate which I LOVE but was met with sooo much disappointment. The hot chocolate was lukewarm at best and had a lot of floaties... perhaps it needed a good stir to mix up but I wasn't expecting little slimy bits in it. She also did not fill my cup all the way up! It's a small cup for $4 so it was disappointing to see my cup was not full. We also got a milk shake and AGAIN it was not filled to the top (see photo). These milkshakes are overpriced as is but to not have it fill is thievery. I also noticed the small milkshake is the same price the large one used to be but it is WAAAY smaller. $8 for a small milkshake when that used to be the price for the large or at the time "onesize." I've cut back on going there due to price but I've always been able to get good quality but if this is the quality they are giving moving forward I will not be going at all. The flavors here are off the charts, the only downside is how expensive they are. They have fun and unique flavors and they do them each so well. Flavors that I didn't expect to like, I enjoyed. In one pint you're able to mix 3 flavors, which is great for someone indecisive as myself. In one scoop you're also able to split flavors - even better. I had a single split scoop of their caramel with dark chocolate dipped pretzel and that was INCREDIBLE - didn't think it would be my favorite but it was. The caramel icecream wasn't TOO sweet and the pretzels gave a good taste and texture. The mint chocolate chip had a good ratio of chocolate flakes and icecream goodness. As for the pint flavors i had: Peppermint: you know how things can be way too minty you feel like you're eating toothpaste? NOT THIS. they balanced creamy and minty with this flavor. Bread Pudding: this one was my least favorite flavor actually. it had chunks of bread with caramel swirled in. it was good but not to die for Spiced Rum: this tastes like the holidays in a cup. If you like those warm, gingerbread, nutmeg flavors you're going to fall in love with the spiced rum. Overall high quality icecream, but can't break the bank going here every week :( read more

There are a variety of unique flavors, which incuded vegan choices as well. The kind team member, allowed me to taste the ones that had really perked my interest. Even though, I had more, I decided to go with tasting only two. I chose the Mango Black Tea. It had bits of mango, but not the huge mango flavor I was anticipating. Neither the mango flavor or black tea stood out. However, what I did like was the color, consistency, and rich texture of the ice cream. Now, one scoop in a cup is pricey...$6 with tax. Therefore, a cool treat, on a hot summer day AND special occasion. The price is comparable for good quality ice cream and the Uptown area. Have to pay for both here. read more

Highly recommend checking out for the ice cream. It is on the pricier side, but worth it for a little treat! We do not recommend getting the brownie (at least the ones you buys separately). Hmm... unfortunately I'm not a huge fan of Frozen Matter. It's possible I just tried/bought the wrong flavors, but I tried 4 of them so I think I had a big enough sample size. Despite the Blueberry Bourbon being a very popular flavor, I didn't taste either the blueberry or the bourbon but rather it tasted like sweet cream to me. The Cookies and Cream was alright. I eventually went with the Vanilla (I think it's vegan!) and Orange Saffron Almond Brittle. The Orange Saffron Almond Brittle was very flavorful and the best flavor in my opinion. The others were either meh or just decent. Also, a single scoop (up to two flavors) is $5! Felt very expensive to me for the scoop size. I do really like though that they provide reusable tin cups if you sit in - helps alleviate the plastic trash we produce:) read more

Definitely on the pricier side for ice cream, but if you're looking for some interesting flavors and quality ice cream, Frozen Matter is worth checking out. There are about 15 different ice cream flavors to choose from that are constantly rotating. Some are more traditional like Dark Chocolate Almond, but there are also other more unusual ones like Coconut Curry and Spiced Plum. I think some of these uncommon flavors were really a hit or miss. I ended up getting the Beet ice cream and loved it, but I also tried the Coconut Curry and the curry taste was too overpowering for a dessert. Pro-tip- if you like more than one flavor, you can choose multiple flavors even for the Single scoop. On the other hand, if you only want one scoop, ask the worker because there's a smaller size available that's not listed on the menu. The service was great as the worker let our group try as many flavors as wanted. The shop was also nice and clean with outdoor seating available. Besides ice cream, there's a speakeasy attached to the shop in the back. Will definitely be back to check that out! read more

I tried the little man ice cream before this one. I will said the frozen matter is definitely as good if not better than the little man. It's a very neighborhood kinda ice cream shop. The line wasn't bad at all and the flavors were quite creative (but can't say it wasn't as innovative as salt & straw, sorry but still good). We ordered the flight with the Smokey campfire with bacon (my favorite), strawberry, coffee, French toast, peach cobbler, and mint chocolate. All the flavors were really good and the two of us were extremely full after sharing the 6 cups together. I'd definitely recommend if you enjoy variety of flavors when eating. The campfire with bacon sounded so strange but somehow the bacon made sense inside and tasted so good. I was really surprised bc I don't really even like bacon on its own. The peach cobbler is seasonal and very sweet, kinda just tastes like mushy pie. I think I would have enjoyed it more if it were less sweet. Great service, fun games and a hidden speakeasy inside! I don't understand how an employee at a delicious ice cream shop can be so cranky. They pretentious white man with a tattoo sleeve on one arm, and a sad excuse for an unhealthy beard. Was so distastefully rude last night. Not only to me and my friend, but also to the rest of the patrons. Really disappointed in the quality of both the ice cream and the waffle. We came on a Friday nights expecting it would be busy but saw no one visiting the store beside us. Should have picked up on that before entering. Ice cream makes everyone happy. Definitely not this place. We weren't even greeted upon entering as the two girls were too busy chatting. I asked for recommendations of flavors and they couldn't even bother answering. Obviously they didn't want to be there and annoyed but the fact that the ice cream shop now had customers! We ended up ordering the prickly pears sorbet, key lime raspberry and milk and chocolate We were impressed by none of those. Very bland and nothing outstanding about the flavors. The waffle cone was easily the worst thing I've ever had at an ice cream shop. Thin, hard, and flimsy, I can only imagine it being made in some overseas factory and packaged for the long trip, then got sit outside for about a month before being served. I was part of a party of 4. We arrived around 10:30PM on a Saturday night. We put our name on the waiting list for the speakeasy bar and decided to have some ice cream while we waited. Gerry (who we later found was the owner) served us. She was so friendly, informative, and just genuinely nice. It was a beautiful night out so we ate our ice cream outside. Gerry went out of her way to ensure we were comfortable. She knew we were waiting to go into the bar, so she took it upon herself to inform the doorman who we were and that we were waiting outside. She did not have to do this. She knew it was possible the doorman wouldn't see us , and she assured we kept our spot in line and weren't passed over. What incredible service. The whole staff was amazing and the the ice cream is INCREDIBLE. But meeting Gerry and talking with her about the business and the neighborhood was the highlight of our night. Visited Frozen Matter in a Saturday around 11pm. Was surprised that it was a bit crowded in terms of seats occupied but there was no line. I tried the challah French toast and the knotty caramel and opted to go with the knotty caramel. The pretzel saltiness and chunks complemented the caramel ice very well. The flavors were well balanced such that no single flavor overshadowed the others. The waffle cone was also tasty mainly because it was too sugary which I like. Ooooh, Frozen Matter is fabulous!! Very reminiscent of Salt & Straw in Portland, Oregon, which is one of my favorite ice cream spots ever. Therefore, this place certainly makes it to my top list. Frozen Matter is considered a "Cow to Cone Microcreamery", meaning they use exceptional organic/natural ingredients from local farms and produce in small batches. Basically, they rule. The ice cream is drool-worthy and they have some funky flavors - such as pineapple peppercorn and whisky barrel smoked cherry pie - in addition to the usual classics. Some of their flavors even contain booze *swoons*! The interior isn't huge, but I don't find that to be a problem. It's a little pricier than your usual ice cream cup/cone, but you truly do get what you pay for here, and let me tell you it is worth every penny!
