Very disappointed, will be a long time before we go back. Maybe if it changes ownership. The prices are too high to have to deal with the owners attitude, She is rude to customers as well as to her staff. Last night, we went for a pizza. Knowing it was a Friday in WW we knew there would be a longer than usual wait but almost 2 hours for a pizza is ridiculous. The owner took our order, at no point did she tell us that there would be a longer than usual wait. Instead she directed us to the cashier, who also didn't mention anything about the wait. It is very inconsiderate to not tell customers that their wait will be extremely long. While we waited, we sat at the table near the pizza oven, which was within ear shot besides giving us a perfect view of the employees behind the counter. We observed the owner being rude to her staff, barking and yelling at them. We watched her staff turn from her and make faces at her and mumble under their breath all while completely ignoring what she had just told them to do. It was obvious nobody was happy to be working there. The girl who finally delivered our food was less than personable to the point of being rude. After waiting close to an hour and half, we asked the owner how much longer it was going to be. At this point she barked at us and told us , "its Friday what do you expect!" Again we asked how much longer, it was only at this point that she told us that there was a large order before us. Stating "you just have to wait". We asked why she didn't mention the large order or the long wait when we ordered. Her response was "Its in the oven, what more do you want." We went back to our table and heard her ask the staff to put our pizza in the oven. So besides being rude she lied directly to our face. We were paying customers and without customers she doesn't have a business. You would think she would try to be nicer to the people who patronize her business. This is, I swear, the most delicious pizza I've ever had. For $5, you can get two pretty large slices of gourmet pizza. As a college student, I am a fan of that price. I asked for a cheese calzone with sausage, and she said "sausage is the only topping we can't use in a calzone because we make the sausage fresh, in house." ...uh, what? Not really sure why you can't use fresh sausage in a calzone. She didn't elaborate. I just went with the cheese calzone, My wife decided to order two slices of cheese pizza, which was already prepared and reheated when served. This person was not very friendly or welcoming. It was clear I've never been to this establishment, and she made no effort to be helpful. I would expect they would want their new customers to experience the best they had to offer, but no recommendations were made. Food: First, the pizza. The slices were over cooked. The sauce tasted very bitter and the crust was bland. Pizza tastes better when it's fresh, so hopefully a fresh pie would taste better. My wife only finished half a slice. When the calzone was brought out, I was very confused. A typical calzone looks like a big, fluffy bread in a triangular shape. This looked like a round, deep dish pizza, cut into slices for a 5 year old. I get that this isn't NY, but don't call it a calzone if that's what you're serving. The dough lacked flavor, the sauce was bland and bitter, and it had very little ricotta cheese. I ate about half of it only because I was hungry. Other stuff: The space was very clean, well decorated, and a pleasant atmosphere. If they put more attention into the food and service, this place would a winner. read more

Do NOT go here! Came here on a Friday night with my fiance. Ordered a slice of pizza, 2 Waterbrook Melanges (for my fiance and a buddy), and a Calypso lemonade for me. Got to the counter and the bastard working the register refused to serve us the wine! We were NOT intoxicated, and in fact, when we entered the establishment, we commented on how good it smelled. Sweet Basil's was recommended to us by the front desk staff at our hotel. We were looking for a restaurant that would be delicous but child-friendly as well. Sweet Basil's did not disappoint. We ordered the Italiano and it was delicious. The house salad had a dressing to die for as well! The staff were friendly, and the counter has a chalkboard and chalk for the little guys to draw to their heart's content. We will definitely be back the next time we visit Walla Walla. read more

My wife and I ordered a pizza for takeout. The pizza itself was very good. However, the service - from start to finish - was so dismissive and so rude that you might not get to the pizza before you'd say "it isn't worth it". In my case tonight, I had a server who watched me enter the business, cut in front of me and then slammed the door in my face. Being as this was my first time in the place I asked "where do I pick up my pizza?". I got a dismissive finger-pointing toward a cashier and was handed a receipt and told "you pay over there!". I waited in line from 8:45 until 8:58 to pay, which wasn't the fault of the cashier because she was overworked and no one stepped in to help her, while others seemed to be standing around talking to one another watching her do the work. However, when I paid, I asked "now do I pick up my pizza over there?", she gave me the same dismissive finger pointing and said "yeah, over there", as though I was supposed to know the whole process even though it was my first time there. And then, after picking up the pizza, the man who handed me the pizza said "here's your pizza" and shoved it in my hands. No "thank you", no "enjoy your pizza' it was just as if he was trying to push me out of there. The whole place exuded an unfriendly and very un-customer service attitude. I have been fortunate to have dined at several fine Walla Walla restaurants, but Sweet Basil is not one of them. I ordered a Caprese salad which was less than mediocre; the tomatoes were only half ripe, hard, and tasteless and the mozzarella was not the freshest. My partner ordered the minestrone soup which we agreed was bland and blah. I tried a gluten free pizza, the crust was soggy and gummy, so bad that it didn't matter what the topping was. My partner had a slice of pesto pizza with the regular crust, which was okay, but not the best pizza that we've tasted in Walla Walla. The ambiance was nice, with tolerable music, until the older woman who appeared to be managing the place blasted the volume on the T.V. to appease 2 guys (friends/relatives of hers?) who wanted to watch the basketball game. She didn't seem to care that the rest of the customers, composed primarily of families, sitting at 7 other tables (who arrived before her 2 friends), weren't there to watch the game. My partner and I agree, if you want delicious pizza, salads, soups, a good wine and desert selection, and a pleasant atmosphere in which to eat this great food, do yourself a favor and walk two blocks to Olives - don't eat at Sweet Basil. read more

Sweet Basil is the best pizza joint in Walla Walla. However, if you know Walla Walla that is not saying much. However, SB really does get it right in a lot of ways. Their pizzas taste fresh and yummy with a wide variety of toppings and sauces. Their cheese bread is equally delicious and sinful. The staff is friendly and attentive and they reward frequent guests with free pizza and Facebook deals. The main reason they lose a star is price. Walla Walla is known for their over the top restaurant pricing and SB is no different. If you pay cash, you can get a large thin pizza for $20. My wife and I can split one of these and finish it (which pretty much never happens with other pizzas). If you don't pay cash, the pizza is even more expensive. Having come from the midwest where you can get a loaded large deep dish pizza (that serves 4) from a quality restaurant for $15, SB's pricing is a little hard to swallow. Still, we enjoy the pizza and still order about once a month. If it were $15 though it would probably be much more often. read more

I was really excited to eat here, it's really cute and trendy. And it's in down town Walla Walla, which is a really fun spot. Unfortunately, as soon as I walked in I was disappointed. There was a million employees running around and loitering behind the counter. It was just unorganized and I didn't even know who to talk to to place my order. My kids and I got pre-cooked slices and expected them immediately since my kids were super hungry. My husband ordered a calzone. After about 15 minutes of waiting, I went to ask for my slices of pizza even though the calzone wasn't ready. The employee was so condescending and annoyed that I asked for my pizza that was literally just sitting there. My husbands calzone wasn't done for 20 more minutes after that. 35 minutes for a calzone?! And it was mediocre and overpriced. My 1 yr old was playing with the number placard on our table (that thing so they know which order is ours ...and it was still perfectly visible!) and the same rude employee came and took it out of my baby's hand and placed it further on the table out of her reach. It was so bizarre and rude and awkward, how could a baby possibly damage a piece of plastic? Anyway, I believe customer service is the most important aspect of a restaurant. I hope they improve, which would be done easily with talking to this specific "waitress." read more
