What I really love about great restaurants (that sets them apart) are/is an excellent bartender, and this place has a fabulous crafted cocktail list and a bartender that can back up your fancy ass request. Server Kalani is obviously from a big city and worked a Michelin or Zagat restaurant (?) He's incredible and added the sixth Star to our 5-star dining experience. Wow. Little old Walla Walla..... Who knew (?) Food! Sorry .... Oh so good. Highly recommend the Prix Fixe menu. Great price. THEY HAVE AFFOGATO!! Bonus !!! For dessert. I'm happy and will be back for sure. If you're looking for fine dining in Walla Walla, The Marc inside the old Marcus Whitman Hotel can't be beat. The chef prepares meals with the best ingredients appropriate for the season in which the food is prepared. Presentation is always beautiful and the timing of each course is perfect. We love the ambiance of this classic hotel that follows through to the dining room and bar. This most recent visit we found the waitress a bit too attentive to the degree of interruption. This is probably the expectation from management so I don't fault the staff. Reservations are recommended. read more

We went two breakfasts in a row due to the $15 credit staying at the Marc gets you, and enjoyed it each time. The top dish by far is the avocado toast. Great layers of goat cheese, a poached egg, some chili crisp and other fun add ons, with a side of a few potatoes and some fruit. Makes for a very satisfying start to our day. We had the same servers both times - super friendly and competent! It's in a lovely space in a lovely hotel so you'll enjoy the ambiance. read more

We ate at the Marc about 4 months ago. We were excited, thinking new management, etc. only 6 other ladies at a table to our 6. Service took forever. DIL's rib eye was so gristly that it could not be eaten. My food was cold and bland (pasta). Husband just left his. Fish was smelly arriving to table, overcooked and not fresh salmon. Wait person apologetic but will not be back unless people start raving about it! Waste dollars! read more

This turned out to be an amazing dining experience, despite a disappointing interaction with the hostess. As a single guest I was told that my only table option was a very chilly two top, unless I wanted to dine in the bar. I requested a booth but told that wasn't available to a single diner - this was at 5:15 on Thursday - there were very few guests in the restaurant. My wait person was wonderful. I told him I was freezing, and unhappy about being treated differently as a single guest. He immediately relocated me to nice booth, and proceeded to offer one of the best customer experiences that I've had in a restaurant. Based on Kalani's recommendations I had a great dining experience. Thank you for taking the time to make this "single" diner feel welcome! read more

Service while friendly, was painfully slow. A table near us waited an hour and a half and left before eating their entree. One person in our party ordered the Whitman old fashion and found the walnut bitters to be too strong and didn't finish, when asked if he wanted a different cocktail, the server gave the impression that the one he didn't like would get comped, but it was not. Two of us ordered the prod fix menu, both had verde chiopino but they were both very different dishes. On was more brothy and had a beautiful garnish, the other was less soupy and more sauce like. See photos .. The short rib, while tasty was barely warm. The rhubarb pie with basil ice cream was the was lovely, the flavors went well together. One person in our party had the gnocchi, which when served, the person serving said it was with, pancetta, but the menu said guanciale, so we were confused what was really in the dish. Unfortunately when the server was clearing the table of dinner dishes, she spilled something on someone in our party's foot/shoe! Overall the experience was very much not worth the price point. What a Gem!! Atmosphere was great, the service was amazing. Very attentive wait staff. But for the food, we had a starter of Prawns and OMG they were out of this world!! Also a spinach salad which every bite was perfectly balanced with dressing, strawberries, cheese. I had the Tri Tip which was cooked perfectly medium and seasoned wonderfully. My husband had the Bolognese and I believe it's best bolognese we've ever had!! The craft cocktails my husband really enjoyed as I enjoyed the sparkling wine. Soup to nuts terrible experience. Brought very important clients (men and women) to one of the top restaurants in the city and what a mistake. Had a reservation and arrived early for wine, appetizers and some business discussion. Almost every wine we tried to order was out of stock...over six selections. We settled for something we really didn't want. We were seated on time for our reservation. First warning, the usually packed restaurant was empty. Our food was terrible and looked like the dishwasher prepared our food...not a knock on the dishwasher. We ordered a cherry dessert that was on the menu...sounded good. When the waitress brought it out it was made with cocktail/maraschino cherries. We started laughing and said really, is this a joke? The waitress stated that cherries were out-of-season, so the cook decided to create the item with cocktail cherries. Of course we refused the dessert. Everything was going bad but then it got worse. We didn't see our waitress for quite a while. An employee was passing our table and my guest waved at her. He asked her if she could get our waitress, we have a question for her. The employee said "Is it an appropriate question?" This isn't like we are a bunch of drunks in a bar. We all couldn't believe what she said. He told her yes, "we wanted to ask her for recommendations for a local breakfast place and our bill." Well, that killed my night and really made me look bad bringing them to this place. Went back the next day for something else and met the "new" manager. I told him about my experience and his response was so disappointing. This experience ended up costing me business relationships. Thanks for earning the top dining nightmare experience of my life. read more

The service was lovely. So was the ambience. And, the fresh produce shareables were to die for. The restaurant sources it from a local farm called "Frog's Hollow". And that alone made the dinner worth it. The main courses, however, were not as well done. I had the halibut, which was dry. It also had a slight fishy taste. I should know better than to order halibut in a place where it can't be flown to the same day from AK. However, it also was served with beans, which were badly cooked. They were a mix of overcooked and mushy, yet half of them were mealy and very undercooked. This is a rookie mistake. The lamb was served with a mustarda - way way way too much. It overpowered it so much that it had to be scraped off. Then, weirdly, they served it with a table pour of lamb jus. Pouring a jus over a mustard sauce is odd. Pick one. Pick the jus. Or dab the mustarda on the side. The deserts were good. I do get tired of chocolate tyranny in the desert world. I know I'm in the minority. But even the ice cream sandwich had unadvertised chocolate crunchies on it. Like mustard, chocolate overpowers everything. That's fine for a chocolate desert. But the ice cream sandwich wasn't that. I wanted to like this place better. read more

Sigh. I'm so disappointment in the "new and improved" Marc. They finally finished what in my eyes was a very unnecessary remodel and they just destroyed the charm. Instead of old-school-luxury-posh I now feel like I'm walking into a bad episode of The Jetsons/Brady Bunch. Of course, this is my personal taste, but between the overbearing bulbous 70s light fixtures, the stiff, violet tufted couches with paint to match, and tiny confined fabric chairs.... We all agreed they really missed the "mark". Also.... No wine on the happy hour menu. Just beer. Umm last I checked we live in one of the most up and coming wine regions in the world. We won't be back until things change, and we used to go in huge groups. read more

I am shocked this is only ranked 3.7. We had an amazing dinner @ The Marc tonight - the innovative menu, the food itself, the presentation, the tastes and the service -- all superb. Albacore Tuna Crudo, Beetroot & Citrus starter, Buttermilk Cured Half Chicken. All excellent. Long wait to be recognized. The desired scallops dinner was "unavailable " but no substitute was offered. The salad and roasted halibut was ordered and we wanted to share. Our server was fantastic - unfortunately all nine of our entrees came out cold and my steak was tough, cold and tasteless. The roasted chicken was chewy and just tasted off. I never write a bad review but this was so bad I want the managers to see this and make improvements. Speaking of managers, didn't see him/her one time. Nicely done remodel of this icon in Walla Walla. Our drinks were great as we started the evening with cocktails at the bar. We moved to the dining room which has a really pretty display of wine. The atmosphere is a disappointment after you walk in from the lobby. Mediocre food and service.

Went there for dinner last night and it was lackluster at best. My partner got a steak he couldn't finish because it was stringy and fatty -- couldn't get a good bite and it was a tenderloin. This was after his meal came 10 minutes after everyone else's. Then this morning we got scrambles which were tiny(half of our plates were empty) and sadly they were runny and inedible. Won't be returning. First, waited 10 minutes for a hostess to greet us and seat us. After that the service was absolutely painfully slow. While our server was friendly and competent, she seemed to be totally overwhelmed with the 4 tables she was serving. We waited one hour before receiving our first beverage. Then each course was another long wait. The child in our group did not receive her meal with the rest of us (after waiting about 2 hours), then had to wait more. Then we had an automatic 20% tip added on. I understand that servers should be tipped (I am in the industry) but the overall service was very poor. Food was just OK. The salad had barely any dressing and the chicken was tough and salty. Not planning to go back. I did like the new decor however. read more

4 of us had made a 6:30pm reservation for the Restaurant Month menu. It took over an hour for our cocktails to arrive, at around an hour and a half we asked if we could order food. By the time the restaurant was closing at 9pm we had only received our salads. When a guy who said "they should be plating it now" went to check and came back without food, we said we were leaving as it had been 2.5+ hours. We left, went to Passatempo, and had drinks and a pizza within 15 mins. read more

We had a relaxed and lovely meal. We shared the ahi nachos and while a little messy they were delicious and it was a generous portion. Loved the crunchy wontons as the base. My other and I shared the beet and arugula salad, which the kitchen split for us. It was bright and tasty, though a touch over dressed. We also shared the special strip steak with a reduction sauce and truffle. We loved the sides of broccolini and mashed potatoes (and I don't usually eat mashed, but these were really well seasoned and I couldn't keep my fork out of them). The garlic knots and lavash are irresistible. We shared some salted caramel ice cream for dessert, a perfect ending. All the dinners we had in Walla Walla were great, and ending with this one, in the beautiful historic hotel, was lovely. read more

Chef's table experience definition of perfection, again. Made or semi annual pilgrimage to Walla Walla and once again was fortunate to book the Chef's Table experience. The overall experience was outstanding, a top 10 all-time dinner to me for sure. What makes this even more impressive is the consistency, time after time, over several years. First some kudos to the team, restaurant GM Dan McCaffrey gets it in every way. His style is just perfect for the team - they have fun our creative and so professional. Plus he makes a really mean tableside sorbet with liquid nitrogen. Executive Chef Grant Hinderlighter is talented, personable and very creative. Always comes up with new treats. The servers are outstanding as well, my bad for not mentioning them individually. The food itself was absolutely delicious and artistically plated. The pics will speak for themselves. Our party of 4 were seated at a tale by the window with a sofa on one side and two chairs on the other. It was attractive however for out group of oldsters it did not work at all. The ones on the sofa needed booster seats as it was way too low for dining. They had a big event in one of the rooms and were way understaffed. It took forever to get cocktails and a waitress. The food was good but portion size was very small. I liked the restaurant and decor better before. I wish them luck but there are other great places to eat in town. I will not recommend it to out of town friends. read more

Simple drinks were fine (ranch water, vodka/soda), aperil spritzer was ridiculously sweet sent it back and the second one came back exactly the same. Old fashioned was extremely sweet. Ordered the cobbler (blackberry). Cobbler was a bit sweet. The worst was it must have had dark blue food coloring as those who tried it had stained teeth and tongue turned navy blue. We had an extra guest decide to join us, but when I called they said they were booked solid and couldn't accommodate one more person so he couldn't join us. I was trying to book Chef's table for degustation menu before we got there. The instructions are not clear on the website, so I just booked for 2. To my surprise, when we got there, we were told that we have to call someone in specific for chef's table and that we have only booked a normal table for 2! Huge disappointment. Hubby ordered hamburger and I ordered halibut with risotto and boy, the food was so bad and greasy! So greasy in fact, that my husband took the patty out of the burger and just ate that! The place looked old and out of touch! I just wish we could get out of there! I did not enjoy the food much! Maybe the chef's table is better. read more

We have eaten at The Marc many times -- both in their dining room, and in their wine bar. We have always found the food to be exceptionally well prepared, with a nice menu selection, wonderful local ingredients and a stellar wine selection. We had dinner there again last Friday night. It was the first night the restaurant was open, after the COVID mess. They were so attentive and helpful and the food was absolutely divine, especially after weeks of cooking at home and awful take-out. We loved everything about our meal and will be back the next time we travel to W2. read more
