Do not come here! I just finished a large party birthday meal at this establishment. We booked two specific tables for a larger party and went through their group services and placed a large deposit. Upon arrival early for our reservation we found that the hostess had given one of our tables to another party. The hostess was rude and unapologetic. The manager was nowhere to be found for 15 minutes, when finally available (keep in mind the restaurant was empty at this point) she was also rude and unhelpful and offered us another table which made our party have our backs to each other. Me (the birthday boy) and my wife ordered their most expensive dish (steak medium rare) which both came out ice cold. We sent both steaks back and they returned the same steaks back well done. I asked for the manager and she offered to have the "re-fired" 30 minutes later after all 11 of my guests had finished eating we received new steaks, now medium rare with the same side dishes from the original steaks now reheated for a second time. As if all of this back of house and front of house malfeasance and negligence was not enough to stand, now my wife and three of our guests have food poisoning and have been throwing up non stop for 4 hours (its now 1am) Avoid this pit at all costs, they are rude, treacherous, dishonest and unsanitary. This is the first bad review I've ever written, but I felt I'd be doing other patrons a disservice if I didn't warn them off. read more

We were excited to try out this restaurant, especially as it has recently been awarded a Michelin Star. Our reservation was on Monday for 6pm. We arrived a few minutes early and the bar area was already full, with many also dining at the tables. We were seated by the window in the back with a beautiful view. The restaurant filled up quickly after we were seated. The drinks menu was a bit limited and the service was incredibly slow. I'd never been to a restaurant that didn't have a glass of Prosecco. The table of 4 behind us was served bread to start, but we were not, nor was the couple next to us. It took 45 minutes to get our drinks (sparkling wine and a ginger ale) because the drink machine had to be fixed first? We ordered 3 appetizers and an entree to share: the whipped feta, sashimi, and steak tartare. These were all delicious, once they arrived. We were served appetizers almost 90 minutes after our reservation. We were told that there was a mixup with the order. Our shared entree - lobster ravioli was less than mediocre. The presentation was very nice, but it lacked flavor. The waiter was nice enough, he kept apologizing about the long wait time. Apparently there was a dinner event at the restaurant and it was causing delays. I can definitely appreciate a restaurant being busy having worked at restaurants before, however this level of disorganization at a Michelin restaurant is unusual. This place was so sweet and cool! We came here for our anniversary. This place you need reservations about a month ahead of time as well. It is a nice clean, and modern place. We were seated in the back patio with heaters and let me tell you, it was still freezing. It wasn't a busier night but we felt like we were last resort. It took awhile for them to clean our table after our entree. And we felt like the night was long. The menu is seasonal but we were able to try these entrees: Iberian Duroc Pork Chop 5/5-- the pork chop was cooked to perfection. It wasn't dry. The sauce pair so well with the pork chop and the vegetables. It def was the star of the show. Colorado Angus Beef Tenderloin w/ Corn Soufflé 5/5 -- the steak was cooked to perfection. I got mine medium and it was perfect. I enjoyed the side salad with it along with the butter. Sooooo perfect honestly and refreshing. The corn soufflé was a nice touch to it as well. Dessert - Lemon and Fennel 5/5 - this was def not what we expected it to be but the flavors paired and complemented one another so well! It is a cold dessert but so worth it. We were in Vail for a business trip & made reservations at Sweet Basil. I had scoured Yelp for recommendations and had seen many ordered the whipped feta. It was not my favorite. It had a raspberry sauce, simply adding too much sugar to it for me. Many like it so you may if you love sweeter things. The entree was by far the star! It was the surf & turf with a tenderloin and a shrimp relleno with lobster crema sauce! Oh my word, it was so amazing. Get it! You won't be disappointed. Last, we order a very different dessert with fennel and lemon. It was so good. There was a crunchy brown meal underneath which complimented it nicely. If you're adventurous, try it. My wife and I had high expectations for Sweet Basil after hearing so many glowing recommendations from friends. Unfortunately, our experience was underwhelming. The service was fine, no issues with our server, but the food just didn't live up to the hype. We started with two appetizers (about $50 total), and while they were edible, they weren't memorable. I finished mine because I was hungry, but my wife wasn't a fan at all. For entrées, my wife ordered the pork chop, which came out lukewarm and unappetizing. She couldn't eat more than a bite or two. I had the halibut, which was fine. Nothing stood out, but I ate it. To their credit, the staff replaced the pork chop with a pasta, but again, it was just okay. The noodles weren't great and the dish wasn't served very warm either. The bright spots: the dessert was excellent, and the drinks were generous. Those were the highlights of the night. All in all, it felt like a very average meal with a premium price tag. We left disappointed, and unfortunately, we won't be returning. read more

Visiting from out of town, Sweet Basil was our first dinner. Steven our waiter was incredible. He was extremely knowledgeable on their food menu and gave great recommendations. As an appetizer we got oysters. When we received our entrees we were overly pleased. The flavors in all our dishes were amazing! I ordered the beef and broccoli but upgraded to the sirloin, so delicious & the crispy broccoli was yum! For dessert we had the cherry bomb & the hazelnut option. We've been here several times over the last 5+ years but unfortunately won't be returning. Breakdown of our experience: Positives: - excellent bartenders (we showed up early for our res and enjoyed drinks and chat with them) - good ambience, lovely scene - not too loud, no children running around - amazing wine list and also cocktails - entrees were quite good Now for the sad parts: - our waters were not refilled ONCE over the course of a 3 hour dinner. We looked around and it was the same situation for the rest of the tables around us - same thing with wine - no one came around to refill or pour - our server didn't know much about the menu nor address a specific allergy question - our server only came around once to check on us over a multi-course meal, and managed not to clear off our empty plates and empty cocktail glasses until the following courses.... Just odd - this also lead to us not being able to order wine until dinner was 70% over - apps were mid at best Our experience would've been just ok at any other restaurant, but for $250 per person, this is pretty unacceptable. Sweet Basil has been our go-to in Vail for years. Hands down, it has been my husband's favorite place in all of Colorado. Until today. I called 30 days in advance to request a reservation for his birthday lunch. When we arrived, they acknowledged my husband's birthday and guided us to a 2-top on the balcony, arguably the worst table in the restaurant. There were 5 or so remaining empty tables on the balcony, all 4-tops. I was facing the wall, with the sun covering half my body. We should have never sat down. To honor the 4-tops (we were a party of 2), take advantage of the view, and avoid the direct sun, I moved my chair to the side of the table. Rather than check in and ask if another table would better suit, the Manager asked me to move my chair. In the meantime, the other more desirable tables were taken by other parties of 2 and one party of 1. One table only ordered drinks. We were appalled, as we had been told these were reserved for parties of 4. As always the food was impeccable, save the single $21 "tortilla chip" with 1 tiny langoustine "Special". TBH, we were pretty distracted by the whole table situation to truly enjoy the food. Total lunch check for 2 = $187. Normally, we would been thrilled to pay this here. read more

We recently dined at Sweet Basil and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal there. Although the waiting area can be a bit cramped when it's busy, the dining area in the back of the restaurant with views of the river is lovely. We had the Ahi Crudo and potato bombs to start, both of which I thought were delicious. The sauce on the potato bombs was particularly intriguing. I had the venison for dinner and shared some of the duck entree with another member of my party, and although I thought my venison was really good, I think the duck was better. For dessert, they had a special that was a snowman with chocolate ganache and raspberry coulis constructed as a snowman, which was both incredible to look at and delicious to eat. My husband had the short rib croquettes and I had the corn cappelletti both were delicious! The corn was perfectly balanced with the truffle and the mushrooms and the flavor. Sweet basil is a standard pricey Vail lunch and not a quick bite if you are trying to get fueled up between the morning and afternoon ski runs. My prawns came with an orzo salad and butternut squash purée. I liked the purée with the roasted pepitas but the orzo was too greasy for me. I felt queasy on the runs after. We had a delicious dinner at Sweet Basil, but unfortunately the service fell short. For apps, we ordered the French onion lasagna, yellowtail and avocado tataki, and the citrus and chicories salad. As a frequent vail diner, I look forward to the seasonal menu at Sweet Basil. However the service was lacking especially at a Michelin guide restaurant. We felt very rushed as a party of 4 at 6:30pm, we sat around 6:36 and were asked to order 3-4 times by 6:45. Our waitress was not friendly at all especially for such a nice restaurant, then the apps came out within 5 minutes of ordering them. We wanted to wait a few minutes since they came so fast to order entrees, but our waitress told us it was the busiest time of the night and it would take over 40 minutes for our food...since we had only been there for 20 mins and felt rushed, we were ok with that. We ordered and the entrees were out 10 minutes later. While the food was delicious as always and I would return, I expected a lot more from the service at my latest visit.
