If I could give this place a half star I would have selected that instead. Of course when you walk in the smells make you believe you are in for a treat, but don't wait to be sorely disappointed. The prices are ridiculous (clearly set for tourists so no real surprise there) however, the food should at least match the dollar to some extent. We ordered two entrees which included salad before. The salad came out looking 5 days rotten, smashed and entirely unappealing. How do you screw up a salad? For an entree I ordered the Chicken Florentine. The chicken was soggy, the spinach was sopping wet and tasted like the just pulled it from the freezer. The only thing that was slightly okay was the sauce but even still left a bad taste in my mouth. Our waitress was also incompetent and should not have been employed. So all in all this was a meal I wish I could have not eaten and will NEVER go back. Since I am a local I would rather support the better food places in Estes such as Chicago's Best. It was our last night in Estes Park and it was cold and rainy so we were hoping for some good comfort food! It all started out great. The wait person was very nice and attentive. We ordered a Cesar salad instead of the side salad that comes with the entree. The nice lady told us there was an up charge. We agreed no problem. When the salad came, it was a side salad with Italian dressing, croutons, regular parmesan cheese out of a box, 2 cherry tomatoes and a cherry pepper. I ordered the Spaghetti and meat balls and my friend ordered the veal marsala. Mine was OK. Sauce was like store bought. The marsala should be called veal marsala soup! My friend was very unhappy. They did not serve us rolls. We ordered cheese bread and that was just as disappointing as the rest of our meal. When the bill came, the up charge to substitute Cesar for regular salad was $2.95!! I think that was the biggest insult of all. Maybe they just serve crappy food there, but they don't have to rip you off too! Stopped in on the recommendation from Josh at Ponderosa Lodge, and he was spot on. Fantastic marinara with meatballs. The Tiramisu was off the charts. Light, perfect balance of cream filling, light cake and coffee flavor. Best bang for the buck I've had in a long time. read more

My husband and I had dinner here on 8/21/12. We would call the food just "fine." The salad was really minimal (really, just one teeny cherry tomato?), and the roll was edible. The server, Max, was attentive but couldn't keep things straight (which dish we ordered, which credit card was ours...). My husband thought the chicken parmesan was okay, and I had a healthy choice chicken pasta dish that was okay too. We thought the prices were too high for the quality of food. I had the tortellini alla panna and it was absolutely fantastic! The girlfriend and I had the cheesy garlic bread and it was delicious as well! Overall the portion sizes weren't massive as they can be with most Italian restaurants. The service was quick and very nice. While Sweet Basilico may be a small place off the main drag, they serve up a better dish than most Italian places I've gone to. Definitely would recommend!! read more

We arrived to a full house and a 20 minute wait, not expecting too much from a small, casual resturant in a mountain resort town. We were pleasantly surprised when the owner circulated thru the waiting area offering a glass of wine, on the house, while we waited. We asked for his food suggestions, and he recommended lasagna bolonese and two chicken dishes. We ordered per his recommendations. The entres were superb, far exceeding the expectations created by earlier Yelp reviews (a local recommended the place, as we might not have visited based on the reviews, alone). The lasagna was delicious and the sauce was fantastic - as good as I've had anywhere. The chicken was stir fried in olive oil with fresh vegetables and a unique blend of spices that made for an excellent flavor. My wife and I split the two dishes, and we both left very happy. The service was flawless and friendly. The minestrone was delightfully homemade, as were the fresh baked rolls. read more

The pizza crust was perfectly moist inside with that perfect crisp on the outside and then the pasta sauce...yummmm. My wife, mom and I were impressed with the ambiance and service. I was planning my perfect review before we left and then our car didn't start in their parking lot. The owner noticed and then demanded we keep our car in his lot, gave us a ride back to our resort and plans to pick us up in the morning. Wow! A true class meal, and staff. read more

YUM. Delicious and fresh food prepared with skill; upscale lunch of Eggplant Parmigiana and Eggplant Florentine for a mid-range price of a sandwich elsewhere. I could've went to the grocery store and bought all generic brand pastas and sauces and made what they gave us. Spaghetti was completely generic and watery as could be, Was kind of hoping for a homemade pasta, and some meat in the sauce...not meat flavored ragu. Calamari reminded me of my failed attempts of cooking my own at home. If the prices averaged 7.50-8.00 a plate I'd say it's ok.... 16.50 for fettuccini Alfredo that had little chicken and lots of olive oil is the standard here. Last night we chose Sweet Basilico for the dine around. Bad choice. The $5 plate was chicken risotto and a teeny floppy piece of cheese pizza. We had decided to order fried calamari as an appetizer since we had it there one other time and it was so good. This time it arrived not very hot and think it had been possibly warming, it was not fried when we ordered it so for about $10 I didn't feel this was a very good plate of calamari. At the same time the waitress had brought our $5 plates which were not very hot and by the time we finished our appetizer food was cold. Our risotto had some sort of spoon drag which made us believe they were smoothing it out to make it look like more or perhaps split the risotto order between us, since it was not hot. We had to send it back telling the waitress she should not be bringing the $5 plate until our appetizer was finished. This to me is just bad waitressing. While we waited on our reheated plates (they brought new steaming hot plates of food) we had seen other plates being served and you could see the steam coming off them. We think our first risotto might have been the last in a pan or something. The cheese pizza was not good. The dine around I thought was to sample food in a restaurant and then because it's good would make a person want to come back. I don't think this waitress realized this because with her service and the cold food etc. this was not making us want to try Sweet Basilico again. I won't be in a hurry at all to go back there. Also, if not for the dine around, this restaurant would have been pretty much empty since everyone seemed to be there for the $5 plate. read more

We recently spent a weekend in Estes Park to spend my daughter's birthday and ate here for dinner. Lora was our waitress and was so sweet and very helpful to me in selecting a gluten free item. Most of their menu can be made gluten free with a gluten free pasta or eggplant substitute however I went with the pizza and was not disappointed. It was hands down the best gluten free pizza crust I have ever had since being gluten free for about 6 years now. They brought out a beautiful slice of chocolate cake complete with a candle and sang Happy Birthday to my daughter. She was very happy! My only complaint is that the women's restroom floor was very wet and slippery by the sink area and I started to slip. I advised the teenage girl at the reception area on my way out but she didn't seem at all concerned. Go figure! They also don't have any gluten free desserts and could easily add a creme brule to remedy that. Overall we had a great experience. An added plus is not having to search for parking which we would have had to do in downtown. read more
