OMG!!! I was not expecting the delicious southern food as this place. My wife had the pulled pork & it took me back to South Carolina, the cornbread was great & hush puppies unbelievable!!! I had the pulled chicken it too was unbelievable with delicious collard greens. If you like BBQ at its finest this place is a hidden gem in a strip mall. Definitely going back. Not the Best. Went with high expectations after reading the glowing reviews of some of you but alas, my experience didn't mirror yours. As ribs go theirs was medicore and passable at the least. I LIKE my baby backs to fall off the bone but this wasn't the case with theirs. It took some doing to even cut the meat. It tasted so so. Oh and the Mac & Cheese side that I had was the large squiggly kind of pasta, the kind of pasta that I HATE. It's elbo macaroni or it just isn't Mac & Cheese. The coleslaw, which many of you raved about was alright but nothing special. The corn bread was sweet, I mean who's idea was that? Didn't finish it, didn't finish nothing in the meal. Threw the rest out, and now I'm still hungry. Thanks a lot fools. But the people were nice. read more

I would say 4.5 stars but I'll round it up for the amazing service. My wife ordered the pulled pork sandwich with Cole slaw and I had the brisket platter. The pulled pork was delicious and even though I'm not a Cole slaw fan it was also so good and perfectly complimented the pork. The fries had a good seasoning also. My brisket plate was a little dry (the pork was better for me), but add in their sauce and it was really good. The sides were spectacular. I got the Mac and cheese which was super cheesy and creamy and the greens which were fresh homemade and delicious. I will definitely be back soon. read more

If you're looking for a BBQ fix, Sweet Carolina's will hit the spot. Restaurant is clean and roomy. You order at the counter and they bring your food to the table. We ordered abrisket platter and a 4 meat platter. Both came with 2 sides and the best hush puppies we've ever had They had a nice crunchy crust with a moist inside and a hint of onion. So good! The meats were all delicious. Ribs were fall off the bone and all the meats were very tender with lots of flavor. The BBQ sauce was not what we are used to. More on the sweet side with not as much tang but a good complement to the brisket and pork. The sides of beans and collard greens were also very good. Portions are large. The service is very good. We were checked on numerous times to see if we needed anything. Very happy with having more good BBQ in the Toms River area. read more

Great bbq finally comes to Toms River. Got a few of the meat platters, all great. My wife said the chicken was the best she's ever had. Oh, and as for the one star review from Larry J., I've had plenty of bbq - sometimes its shredded, sometimes its not, lighten up dude. And yes it took them forever to open - you obviously have never tried to open a business in Toms River, known forever for the most difficult inspectors to deal with. Classic Carolina BBQ Joint! Love the Mac and Cheese and Corn Bread Sides. The ribs can't be beat for their finger licking goodness. Only place that has Cheer Wine in Cans and Fountain north of the mason Dixon line. Get in before they raise the prices because they will need to based on the flavor alone. read more

Extremely disappointed in the food. We ordered a meat platter and in most barbecue places, you would get pieces of meat. Here, you get everything shredded. Huh? The chicken, pork and brisket... all shredded. I've never seen that before. To make things worse, the BBQ sauce wasn't all that great to dip your shred into. It took them forever to open their doors after seeing their sign "coming soon". They obviously weren't working on their menu. read more

Nice addition to Tom's River. We ordered to go at the counter. Stated it would be ready in 15 minutes and it was. Staff very friendly and helpful. We chose the rib plate and the brisket plate. Each plate came with 3 hush puppies and 2 sides. Portions were on the larger side. Ribs were ordered with dry rub and bbq sauce. Very tasty and tender. Bbq sauce is on the sweeter side, but still delicious. Could offer other bbq choices. Sides were baked beans and cole slaw. I love baked beans and I was not a fan of these. They kind of tased like canned pork and beans. The Cole slaw was good. Fresh made taste. Maybe a little spicy? Like horseradish?Brisket plate was ordered with corn bread and hush puppies. Brisket was very tasty and tender. The only negative is the brisket was too lean. It needed more fat. Hush puppies were amazing. Crunchy outer layer, soft tender inside with a hint of green onion. Corn bread soft and flavorful. Inside of the restaurant it is casual and clean. You can see the food being prepared. Kitchen is clean. Looking forward to my next visit to sweet Carolina's! read more
