I was so surprised when I walked in and the restaurant was entirely empty! I've passed by Sweet Chick enough that I knew I wanted to try it, and finally, on a random Monday night, I did! I admit, I took a sneak peek of the the reviews, and some of what was described proved to be true with my experience. Throughout the evening there were literally 2 staff members to be found, both of them literally doing everything. There were more take out orders than sit down, so they were mainly dealing with delivery drivers and people ordering pick-up. I'd say the food came out in a pretty normal amount of time. If I were dining in a bigger group, and if we had places to be I can see how this isn't the best spot for you. This did not bother me, since I was dining with a friend and we were in no rush, so take that as you will. I ordered the Honey Lemon Pepper Chicken sandwich. The chicken sandwich was pretty good. Can't complain that my chicken was (much) longer than the bun it sat in between, but it was an awkward sandwich because of it (see picture). My friend and I ordered sides of brussel sprouts and mac and cheese: each of the sides were $8, which I felt were a little hefty for the small-ish portions. The brussel sprouts had a nice sauce, but I've had much better mac and cheese... for cheaper too. Best way to describe it was that it tasted more like eating a pasta with a creamy sauce rather than mac and cheese. My meal for a chicken sandwich + side was $30. I was disappointed in my experience here. The place is very cute and has a fun vibe with a full bar and nice decor. I was able to find parking right in front. Our server was friendly and took our orders quickly. I ordered a mimosa, honey garlic chicken tenders and waffles. The waffles were fluffy and tasty; what I did not enjoy was the chicken tenders. There was only one person waiting tables, it took forever to get our order taken, all the food portions were reduced, there were fewer sauce flavor options, and the chicken tenders were even a bit smaller than they were at past visits. If you're looking for some fun flavors of chicken and waffles, it's a decent spot still. They just aren't quite up to the standard of what I have come to expect from them. Edit: Oh! I come to this location because it's never crowded and there always seem to be only one or two people working the front of house, yet they're very attentive. Since it's usually quiet, the service feels personal and unhurried. The food is always spot on and tastes exactly how I expect it to every time. Came for an early brunch, which was a laid back affair. We were able to be seated right away even though we didn't have a res. My friend and I split the carrot cake pancake special (delicious) and balanced it with a savor breakfast sandwich. My grilled chicken was very small, overcooked, and really dry. There were some burnt pieces of the chicken on the sandwich as well. I don't think it was worth it for $12. I had to pull out my mayo bottle from the fridge to add to my chicken because it was so dry. I think I may have just gotten the wrong item since I believe they are known for the fried chicken but I was disappointed by the small burnt grilled chicken sandwich. Yumpling (down the street) also has a fried chicken sandwich and it is a much larger piece at a similar price point. Overall I just think there is a mismatch between portion and price. My friends and I stopped in early on Sunday for brunch. The place was full, but no one else was waiting, thankfully! We were seated in about 20 mins. First of all, their wrench door handle is so cute! We took our seats and grabbed the menus that were readily available on the side. To eat, we ordered a mix of chicken and waffles and egg biscuit sandwiches. We also ordered a side of wings and hashbrowns. The hashbrowns were delicious! They come in a waffle style and are nice and crispy and well-seasoned. I ordered the honey lemon pepper fried chicken and apple cinnamon waffles. The chicken was juicy and flavorful! The waffles were just a touch sweet, and a perfect complement to the chicken. My friends enjoyed their egg sandwiches and wings. I thought about removing 2 stars, but generously only took away 1, because there was literally ONE GUY working in the whole restaurant which caused the service to be super slow. He was the bartender, host, to-go order guy, and server. Kudos to him for managing it all, but why would they schedule one person to work on a Sunday?? 3.5 rounded to a 4. My family and I came here on MLK day for lunch. It was not very busy but we weren't acknowledged when we first came in despite the people walking in and out of the counter area. When we were finally greeted, we mentioned a reservation and they didnt even ask what the name was. They sat us at a table that was without utensils or drink menus. I ordered a coffee and asked for milk. The coffee arrived with a little sugar caddy but no milk. When he came back, I asked for the milk. He said no problem, then went to take orders. I asked for third time and he brought the milk. The coffee was cold. It was freezing outside so every time someone opened the door, we got a gust of cold wind. This made our food cold very quickly. The food was the saving grace. We ordered the 3 piece chicken and waffles as well as a side of tenders and mac and cheese for my daughter. The chicken was well seasoned and fried nicely. The waffles were light and crisp and not overly sweet. They also serve real maple syrup which was a nice touch - tastes great on the chicken too. I have been to the Williamsburg location and much prefer it over this one. The food is pretty standard, however, the service left more to be desired. The only time of contact is when the waiters bring out the food. My friends and I ordered the Honey Garlic Chicken and Waffles (1 with tenders, and 1 with bone-in), and the Nashville Hot Chicken and Waffles. The tenders were a bit hard, but the bone-in chicken was fried to perfection. Their waffles were pretty solid! Update Father's Day 2023 I was highly disappointed with the food and the service. Second time I went in 3months and the chicken size seemed to be getting smaller and over cooked! I had ordered two breast for my chicken and it was so dry and over fried! The chicken is supposed to be juicy & come right off. It was hard and you can immediately tell the chicken was over cooked! I had asked the waiter why did that happen, and he came out with some mumbo jumbo how sometimes the chicken size can come out small. He didn't even bother to get me a fresh batch. So i don't know when will be the next time I go here because of the last few times of being disappointed. Management needs to seriously step it up with this place. I came here for my mom's birthday yesterday and it was honestly a disaster. The service is terrible. The staff isn't attentive and I had to flag down someone 5 different times for things that should have just been done to begin with. And it's hard to get someone's attention because they walk by without looking at you. 1. We weren't given any utensils to eat with 2. We weren't given any napkins 3. The mac and cheese we ordered was WAY overcooked and was a gross mushy mess (I remember ordering this from a different location a couple of years ago and it being so good. Not the same at all anymore. Even after they fixed it, it was still gross and I didn't eat it.) 4. The birthday girl's waffles were served visibly burnt to a crisp and hard as a rock (WHY was this even served to begin with when you can see it's not good? It shouldn't have even left the kitchen). Then it took FOREVER to get her fixed waffles, to the point that everyone else was done eating before she got her food. 5. So, I haven't been to Sweet Chick in actual years. I've been to one in Brooklyn, and one on the LES, I believe?...Anyway, I remember them being ok. Ok, sorry lol) and helpful. I asked her if she has a favorite sandwich from the menu, and she said that the BBQ sandwich was really good. I told her I trust her and I'd take one! I then ordered a side of Mac n cheese, but then asked her if she recommended it. She said that the Mac n cheese is great, but with the BBQ chicken sandwich, she highly recommends the potato salad. She was a sista, so I REALLY trusted her because black people don't eat just any potato salad. She assured me that I'd like it, and that it's served with crispy onions. I was sold. Every time I pass by this spot, there's always customers sitting both indoors and outdoors and it's always been a spot that I wanted to try. I ordered the sweet chick bucket for take out along with some extra biscuits that came with blueberry jam. The chicken reminds me of KFC batter and was actually pretty small. It was also dry and didn't seem worth it. It came with power slaw and a biscuit as well, which were both okay. The biscuits were pretty fluffy, not too buttery, and pretty good with the jam but overall just decent biscuits. They're pretty popular for their chicken and waffles so maybe try that out instead or their fried chicken sandwiches, which is also next on my list to try from here. Increase the amount of food you serve or just charge less. No one really minds paying $20 for lunch anymore, but with the amount I was served, it should be closer to the $10 range.
