Had reservations for 2 on a Saturday afternoon and the place was packed. We got there about three minutes late, but they seated us within 5 minutes in a booth. It was our first time eating at a Friedman's location. It had a nice diner feel to it, with a mix of booths and tables. The brunch menu has a variety of breakfast items, salads, sandwiches and burgers, starters, and entrees (fish tacos, grain bowl, fried chicken). I like that several of the items are naturally gluten free, and some can be made gluten free by request. We decided to go with three breakfast items from the brunch menu: I got the shakshuka, my sister got the Nova Benny, and we got the lemon ricotta pancakes to share. All 3 dishes were great. The shashuka came with grilled ciabatta, perfect for dipping into the sunny side eggs and tomato sauce. My sister loved that the poached eggs and smoked salmon of the Nova Benny came on top of a crispy potato latke. The pancakes were fluffy and the lemon ricotta and lemon zest elevated their flavor. Our server was friendly and attentive, and he asked us if we had any allergies when he took our order. He came by several times to check on us and refill water. Came on a busy Thursday morning at nine am. Got a decaf iced vanilla latte and a nova Benny and the Mac and cheese. And lemme just say the food came out sooo quick. The Benedict was so delicious. I've never had it on a crispy hash brown type before. It was good and a massive portion. Mac and cheese was alright, though I would probably opt out of it next time. They packed on the lox. He didn't even finish but found it amazingly delicious. Service was okay. Nothing too spectacular. Wonderful. My waiter was so nice and attentive. This restaurant was on a lot of the gluten free lists so I had to check it out. It did NOT disappoint. I got the pan-seared fish sandwich with gluten free bread. So good. I had trouble figuring out the dipping sauces I liked. They don't have barbecue sauce so I tried the honey mustard and the herbed aioli. So-so but not quite right. (The next day I went to the singing Friedmans at Times Square and tried the garlic aioli. We were able to snag a booth for two on a Saturday at lunch with under a 5 mins wait. The place is super inviting with spacious windows and high ceilings and plants which make it feel airy while the wood made it warm and natural. The booth was comfortable. Our server was outstanding. She was funny, attentive, and very helpful. They're easily able to accommodate gluten free (my friend has a severe gluten allergy). We started off with drinks and then got the Vegetable Potstickers. They were delicious and crispy, but the sauces paired perfectly with them too. I had the chicken fingers for my entree. They were so crispy and delicious and you couldn't even tell they were gluten free! Decided upon Friedman's due to menu, proximity to my destination, and reviews. I'm glad that we did, as my daughter and I had a great experience to start off our day. We didn't see the option to place a reservation, but we really didn't need to as the wait went by really quickly.. probably about 5 mins actually. I don't usually like booths, but this one didn't make me anxious. Will was our server, and he was pleasant and very accommodating. The soundtrack held a while variety, which I appreciated. My daughter ordered a hot chocolate, lemon ricotta pancakes, and a side of sunny side up eggs. She said the pancakes were amazing. They were just ok, with extremely small portions. I also would have preferred other juice options for the mimosa besides orange juice. The fried chicken that came with the waffle was pretty good and my boyfriend enjoyed his waffle. We also got the banana bread, which was okay. Great food for the whole family with an upscale flair. The decor was interesting with simple jarred veggies along the walls. The service was good and the food came pretty quickly. There is no kids menu but there was plenty to choose from. My son had Mac and cheese bites from the app menu, for example. One thing to just know is that the restrooms are not gender specific. There's one restroom with several stalls for all patrons. This in theory doesn't bother us, we're accepting of whatever you want to do or whoever you are. I enjoy Friedman's. This is my second location I've been at. The Nova Benny was my favorite dish by far. Delicious salmon. Great poached eggs. Tasty fritter bottom that's crunchy. The lemon ricotta pancakes are also tasty. They forgot to give us syrup and then when they brought us syrup, they didn't give us enough. That was a little annoying. I also feel that the syrup is very watery and doesn't have a great thick consistency so it soaks right into the pancake. You can taste the lemon inside, which is really unique. The homemade banana bread was yummy so I didn't try any of the strawberry. I don't know that it's worth $15, that feels a little exorbitant. We had a lovely waitress who was funny and charming, and add added to the experience. I love the interior inside this place. You feel like you're back in time somewhere. Was in NY city for 24 hours saw the positive ratings and it was close by my hotel and booked it. Boo. This place is basically paradise for us GF folks. I got a delicious milkshake with a couple of brownie bits on top and the buttermilk chicken sandwich. The chicken was out of this world tender and whatever sauce they put on it was delicious. The bread did start to fall apart halfway through but it survived enough to enjoy a good amount of it.
