We have eaten here before but at the Union Square location. This is right around the corner from our daughter and we were very please with the food and service. Wyatt was our server and he was very accommodating to our requests. We got there right before happy hour was over and he even told us we had a couple of more minutes before the end of HH and if we wanted anything else. Who does that? This place is a cool restaurant in a good location. Right next to the 72nd street Q station, so real easy to get to. The menu had a great selection and I am glad we found a place that serves you chips and salsa with your meal at no extra charge. This is not the status quote with other restaurants in the area. My wife had the Javelina salad and added chicken. We asked if the chicken was all white meat chicken and Wyatt said it was a mix, but could get some fajita chicken if she would like. It was a dollar more than the regular chicken up charge. Perfect, we were good with that. I ordered the Enchiladas De Tejas. I don't know if I have had a better dish. I was so good. I am a huge enchilada person and very picky on what I get and I definitely will be getting this again. The red chili gravy on the enchiladas was amazing. Of course we had to have a couple of HH drinks and they were great. The margaritas were good. The beer was the only beer they offer which was up my alley. We will go back and keep trying new things. Javelina is serving up some seriously good Tex-Mex in NYC! Had a wonderful dining experience with friends. This place has been on my radar for A LONG time and I finally got to try it out. Everything from the service to the food was A+. To start enjoyed the queso sampler and damn that queso is gooood! Of the quesos, the traditional was by far my favorite . For my entree I had the flank steak fajita (cooked medium rare) and it was EXCELLENT. The steak well seasoned, tender, juicy, and seared in a cast iron grill pan with onions and poblano peppers (nom nom!). Accompanied my beans (refried or black) and rice (mexican or cilantro), guacamole, pico, crema, and fresh warm tortillas. Two of my friends enjoyed tacos, said they were excellent and and the other friend had the chicken mole, also said it was excellent. We all cleaned our plates, that should say something. Lol. Javelina also serves up terrific margaritas and sangria. Charming decor. Highly recommend. Do make reservations, it was absolutely packed at 6pm. Walked in on a Tuesday evening at 7pm. The restaurant was lively and our host seated us right away in a cozy booth. One of the glasses was dirty so we asked the host to replace it. The chips and salsa are complimentary and they refill consistently. The Bob Armstrong queso was a great way to start off the meal. I ordered the Birria enchiladas which were delicious but on the drier side for the meat inside. Our service was on the slower side but very friendly. I've been coming to this location of Javelina since around 2019 and have never had a bad experience. They have one of the best happy hours in the area and amazing margs and queso. It is a bit tricky as a vegetarian if you don't like cauliflower tacos though, so be mindful if any vegetarians or vegans are in your party. I've ordered take-out a couple times from both locations but this time I was in the mood to eat in. Everyone was so friendly and my server Wyatt was so helpful. I started with an order of the Fried Jalapeno queso which was really good but ironically needed a bit more heat/seasoning. I decided to also get tortilla soup and chicken quesadillas. The tortilla soup was excellent, although I felt it needed some veggies in it. The quesadillas also, I would have liked grilled onions in it but apparently the kitchen won't do that. I would have liked a little more pico de gallo to put on my quesadillas but I was afraid I might have to pay extra. Next time I think I'll order fajitas which is my usual go-to. Here's my ranking of the quesos: 1) The Bob Armstrong (traditional), 2) the Traditional queso, 3) the White queso, and 4) the Habenero Queso. I wish they'd stick to one queso and make it very good vs. having so many options. The flour tortillas were good, and the chips and salsa are okay. I came back a separate time and ordered the Enchiladas de Tejas (cheese enchiladas). While it wasn't quite authentic Tex-Mex (especially the red chili gravy/chili con carne), they had a good flavor and hit the spot. When they say best queso in the city, they mean it! Some people we met at a bar close by actually suggested we come here when we said we were going to grab some food. We started with drinks, cava for my friend and I got a frozen prickly pear margarita with a floater. This is a great Tex Mex spot in the neighborhood. I really like to start with one of their quesos. The habanero and white quesos are my favorites. Their guac is also really good and made fresh. They let you choose the spice level, and I always go with the spicy. I can't come here without ordering a margarita. The frozen ones are delicious and actually quite potent. I usually order tacos here. I get 3 because if you order 3, you get rice and beans on the side. My favorites are the shrimp, crispy fish, and chicken. They come on flour tortillas which they make on site and taste very fresh. I've also had the mole enchiladas which are delicious. I love that they have a few tables out front. I always sit outside so I can bring my dog. There's an exciting new deal they have on Tuesdays for taco Tuesdays. If you buy 3 tacos you get a free frozen margarita. I don't know if maybe they are known for their food but definitely not their drinks. I went for happy hour and only had the their wings and frozen margaritas. I also had a drink that they mix with sangria and margarita. The wings were okay. However, the margaritas tasted so bad I couldn't even drink it. When I arrived, the gracious host said the kitchen was closed even though the hours listed were until 10. We arrived shortly before 9 on a weekend night. He said he was sorry the hours were listed incorrectly and explained that they couldn't stay open late due to labor costs. He gave us a card for free queso next time we come back. I was disappointed but I returned with my family (we are from Texas). I arrived on Sunday after 3. When I came in, the place was pretty empty and the hostess was chatting with colleagues and had phone in hand and earbuds on as she greeted me. Fine, it's dead, I get it, no big deal. I was happy she could seat me even tho my family had not arrived yet. I asked my waiter for coffee and he said he would check if they had any. He came back and said he had cold coffee from earlier and would I like that. I said no thanks! And his response was "we are not making more coffee right now". Okay... I ordered a specialty queso and waited for my fam. We all ate and drank more. We had no complaints except that the fajitas only came with 4 tortillas even though it was a shared item. We finished our food and I hear a busser ask the manager if she wants a coffee. Then, she walks by our table with a fresh cup of hot coffee. Ok I'm leaving anyway so I run over to give my waiter the free queso card and he tells me he can't take it because it's only for a plain queso not the specialty one I ordered. I ask if he can just discount the queso and the manager, sipping on a tasty coffee, says no. I left the coupon on the table and we all agreed that we would not be coming back. The green enchilada sauce was so good and the veggies were perfectly cooked Al dente! The fish tacos were perfectly seasoned in a light batter and the corn tortillas were so airy. The undressed shredded cabbage was the perfect crunch and complement to the mango salsa that topped the tacos. As for the nachos- layers of tortilla, refries beans and cheese topped with sour cream, guac and salsa. Absolutely delicious. Our containers were practically licked clean! There is something about the place maybe it's the vintage Bob Ross videos playing over the bar instead of the mindless barrage of sports other places assault you with or maybe it's the smiling staff that does everything they can to make sure your meal is fantastic and trust it always is; I mean they take the time to roast their own tomatoes for their homemade salsa that's hands down my favorite in the city and I know because I asked Michael the GM if they ordered it from somewhere or actually prepared it fresh.
