    Flank steak fajita
    Jennifer D.

Javelina is serving up some seriously good Tex-Mex in NYC! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Had a wonderful dining experience with friends.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This place has been on my radar for A LONG time and I finally got to try it out. Everything from the service to the food was A+. To start enjoyed the queso sampler and damn that queso is gooood! Of the quesos, the traditional was by far my favorite . For my entree I had the flank steak fajita (cooked medium rare) and it was EXCELLENT. The steak well seasoned, tender, juicy, and seared in a cast iron grill pan with onions and poblano peppers (nom nom!). Accompanied my beans (refried or black) and rice (mexican or cilantro), guacamole, pico, crema, and fresh warm tortillas. Two of my friends enjoyed tacos, said they were excellent and and the other friend had the chicken mole, also said it was excellent. We all cleaned our plates, that should say something. Lol. Javelina also serves up terrific margaritas and sangria. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Charming decor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Highly recommend. Do make reservations, it was absolutely packed at 6pm. And wear your stretchy pants cause you're gonna leave with a happy full belly!

Walked in on a Tuesday evening at 7pm. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant was lively and our host seated us right away in a cozy booth.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] One of the glasses was dirty so we asked the host to replace it. The chips and salsa are complimentary and they refill consistently. The Bob Armstrong queso was a great way to start off the meal. I ordered the Birria enchiladas which were delicious but on the drier side for the meat inside. Our service was on the slower side but very friendly. Overall, good reliable Tex mex food with great service.

I've been coming to this location of Javelina since around 2019 and have never had a bad experience. They have one of the best happy hours in the area and amazing margs and queso. It is a bit tricky as a vegetarian if you don't like cauliflower tacos though, so be mindful if any vegetarians or vegans are in your party. Service is always great and I love that they are one of the only places that will still give you chips and salsa for the table when you are seated.

Came here for dinner the other day and this place was fantastic. We had a really great experience with the tippler. The margaritas were phenomenal! This place also had the best enchiladas mole. The sauce was absolutely incredible. As a Texan, I'm super picky when it comes to TexMex and Latin foods. However, this place does not disappoint! IG: QueenOfAdventureNYC

Saw reviews saying this place had the best queso in NYC. Being from Texas, I was suspicious but had to try it out. Honestly, the queso wasn't that great. I ordered the Queso Sampler. Here's my ranking of the quesos: 1) The Bob Armstrong (traditional), 2) the Traditional queso, 3) the White queso, and 4) the Habenero Queso. I wish they'd stick to one queso and make it very good vs. having so many options. The flour tortillas were good, and the chips and salsa are okay. I came back a separate time and ordered the Enchiladas de Tejas (cheese enchiladas). While it wasn't quite authentic Tex-Mex (especially the red chili gravy/chili con carne), they had a good flavor and hit the spot. The Mexican rice and refried beans could be better, but they tasted okay. All in all it's not amazing Tex-Mex, but if you're craving it, it'll hit the spot.

Queso Sampler, frozen Prickly Pear Margarita and a cava wine

When they say best queso in the city, they mean it! Some people we met at a bar close by actually suggested we come here when we said we were going to grab some food. We started with drinks, cava for my friend and I got a frozen prickly pear margarita with a floater. Funnily enough my waiter forgot my floater but someone else heard me joking about it with him and just brought me a shot that I poured into the drink. The margarita was delicious! With and without the floater haha. I would honestly come back for these alone. We shared the Queso Sampler; it came with a traditional queso, white queso, fried jalapeño queso and a larger bowl of Bob Armstrong queso. The obvious favorite was the bob armstrong, with the ground beef and some added guacamole we were in love. The white queso was my second favorite, absolutely delicious. Personally, I'm not a Smokey jalapeño fan so I would probably pass on that next time but people who like jalapeño will love this. Chips came out fresh and warm, were perfectly thin, but not thin enough to break in the queso. Can't wait to come back!

Cozy spot on the UES! The Bob Armstrong queso was DELICIOUS. I was thinking about it for days after. I got the brisket taco and it came with jalapeño gravy which was really great but wasn't spicy at all. I want to try the sizzling platters next time, as the table overs smelled amazing.

came here for a Monday night for happy hour (4-6pm). Solid service, complimentary salsa and chips, no wait. food came out quickly but I'd skip the fried cauliflower. My friend ordered the taquitos and red wine and she enjoyed it. My margaritas were nicely flavored and strong. (Mondays is mango!)

My favorite Mexican joint in the UES. The food and frozen margs are so yummy! I get a brisket quesadilla and strawberry margarita every time I go and it hits the spot every time

A quick internet search led me to this tiny little takeaway window. There were a few people waiting around for their orders, but the service was quick, and super friendly. We had our usual list of spots in Midtown East, but this time we wanted something a little different. We ultimately landed on Mexican, however even then there were several spots to chose from. One of my colleagues found CdM, and since we had nothing to lose we decided to check it out. In terms of physical space at CdM, there is very little; this is actually a walk-up spot hence it is solely a takeout restaurant. The menu is pretty straightforward - lots of Mexican staples with a good variety to choose from. The burrito bowl looked good so I decided to go with that - I was given choice of protein (I chose pastor) and types of beans (I chose black). The bowl was really good - all the ingredients tasted fresh and they were generous with the portion. They added sour cream to the top of the bowl and it came with a side of salsa verde which I thought was a nice touch. We also ordered some bags of tortilla chips to share - these were my favorite kind as they were semi-thick and super crunchy. Overall, I had a solid experience at Cinco de Mayo. It definitely hit the Mexican craving spot and I would have no qualms returning for another meal.

I didn't see any but saw buckets for umbrellas. I opted not to leave it there since I didn't wanna forget or risk someone taking it. I took it upstairs with me. My friend had arrived and was seated. Apparently, they do offer sleeves because she got one. But the 3 people who were at the hostess booth failed to offer me one. The beautiful ambiance will get your attention immediately. It is a stunning space. The tableware was gorgeous as well. We waited for our last friend to arrive who was almost half an hour late before ordering (we thought she'd arrive sooner). Our server, Matias was gracious about it the whole time. What we ordered: Drinks: Passionfruit Margaritas & Mojito - we were happy with them. Tlayudas, Guacamole y Salsas - this was really good and a great option for the table to share. The homemade chips alone were excellent. Liked all the different dips. Guac could've used some cilantro and more acid/spice. Tán Ceviche - I loved this. Super fresh and great flavor. Could use a touch of acid. My entree was the Shrimp & Crab Enchiladas - This was pretty good. The sauce could've used some spice and some acid to cut through the richness. My friend ordered the Yellow Corn Soup as part of her meal and she did not like it. She said it was too sweet which I thought was strange. I tried a spoonful and I agreed with her. It needed a savory note and again, acid would've done wonders. Also, the crab was a bit fishy in this. She enjoyed her tamal though. I tried a touch of the sauce and it was delish. My other friend had the Quesabirria which she was also happy with. To sum up: Ambiance: 5/5 The space is undoubtedly gorgeous. Food: 4/5 Beautiful presentation on everything but each dish lacks an element or two to make it a home run. Staff: Wait staff 5/5. Downstairs staff (greeters/hostess) 4/5. Needs to be more on point like offering customers sleeves for umbrellas or pointing out the buckets to put them in. At some point through our entrees a group of 3 women were doing a 10-minute photo shoot by the stairway where our table was. Absolutely inappropriate behavior and a manager should've stopped it. Camera flashes all up in our faces while we're eating wasn't cool. Overall, still a great elevated Mexican cuisine option. The slight tweaks would make this a 5 star place for me. I'd return to try more things.

If you are someone who is looking at an aesthetic place, this is a top contender. Unfortunately, I would say this place is better looking than the food is good. The food was fine, appetizers were all fresh but lacked any real depth in flavor. I wasn't too thrilled with the bone marrow I had either (but the tortillas come in the cutest basket). Personally, if it wasn't for the drinks and the space, I cant say this place is worth it - you're not coming here for the food. Another little complaint I have is the women's restroom on the second floor - right by the door is a floor to ceiling mirror which I understand was included to make the space seem bigger, but my friends and I agreed that it is a little misleading - I kept wanting to walk into it thinking there was more space there and not wall. I would recommend maybe putting a decal on it to clearly show its mirror.

Decent size Mexican restaurant with some seating in the front and a handful of tables in the back dining room. We started with chips and guac. The guac is large so I understand the price. It was very good. No complaints. The chips could have used more salt though which is always a concern. You'd think Mexican spots would have a tortilla chip down by now. I ordered a steak quesadilla. The steak was tender and had pretty good flavor. I just wish there was more. Especially considering the price. Certainly not a bad quesadilla but the value wasn't quite there. Still, a fine option if you want Mexican food and you are in the area. I'd say the 3.5 rating is pretty spot on.
