Another shout out to our friend Phoebe, at Ladyfingers Bakery! This time it was another 1/4 sheet Chinese Style cake with Whipped Cream. The fruit that I got was Strawberries, Green Grapes and Mango! 1/4 sheet is supposed to feed 15 to 20 people, but her cakes are so popular, I think we could have finished a 1/2 sheet! Once again, she wrote Happy Birthday in Chinese. I apologize for not having a picture. I didn't take any that night and am waiting for my cousin to send me one. I bought an 8-inch red velvet birthday cake from Ladyfingers Bakery last week after Berkeley Bowl and another Oakland bakery were sold out. I've driven past this place for years and was excited to finally try it. The cake cost $58.95 (about $63 with tax) for a very small cake, which seemed expensive, but I assumed it would be high quality. I even specifically asked the employee if the cake was fresh, and she assured me that it was. Verbatim she said: Don't worry, it's fresh... Unfortunately, it absolutely was not fresh. The cake was extremely dry and crumbly, making a mess when we cut it, and it tasted like it had been frozen and thawed and then frozen and thawed again. Even worse, the frosting wasn't cream cheese frosting (which red velvet should have) -- it was plain vanilla buttercream. This was the only dessert at my friend's dinner party birthday and it was honestly embarrassing. My friend politely ate her slice, but no one else finished theirs. Her husband who is outspoken just flat out started talking about how dry the cake was... To their credit, when I contacted the bakery they did offer a refund, but required that I bring the half-eaten cake back to the shop. I live in San Francisco and didn't have time to make a special trip to Oakland to return a cake that had already been tossed in the trash outside and then fished back out. $63 for a tiny, dry, clearly not-fresh cake is unacceptable. Such a sweet spot! We stopped here looking for a cup of coffee and left with a delicious coffee (with whipped cream, a great touch!) and some treats. It appeared to be family-operated and you could really tell they pour love into their business and goodies. Sweet, attentive service. Will be back! read more

I called at 2pm, and it was ready for pick up at 3:30pm. Given the last minute notice, I appreciate this as durian is hard to find. Especially so last min, we order the 8" cake and it was $70+. I had to change it to half mix fruits, and half durian. I wish the mix fruit was fresh for that price. The price is steep compared to other business, but I love supporting local business. The owner was so nice, and even showed me there's a parking lot in the back. Conclusion: The durian was fresh, the mix fruit was from cans. The cake was good, except the lady finger was a bit hard. read more

My last review was four years ago. I ordered a strawberry Charlotte cake in August for a client. They were over the moon with the light yet flavorful filling. Fresh strawberries! Today, I picked up my favorite black bottom cake. So rich and decadent. Highly recommend this for the chocolate lover in your life. I stopped by to pre-order a pumpkin and an apple pie for Thanksgiving. She makes it the traditional way with butter. Very hard to find these days. Glad to support a small business. First time and def not my last. Arrived on a Friday afternoons around 4 and was greeted by Jay. Greeted him and let him know it was my first time here in which he was delighted for our visit. I scan the pastries in the display case. Grab a few and must say was impressed. Once I got home, I couldn't resist getting into the pineapple upside down cake. It was most, delicious and flavorful. Sorry to give this review but I had heard of this bakery so quite disappointed with its offerings. First time here and tried 3 items: slice of coconut cake, a vanilla cupcake and pineapple upside down cake slice. All were stale. None had any significant flavor aside from sugar/sweetness. The vanilla cupcake had a strange background taste like plastic or some type of oil maybe. It was also baked in a strange liner, not the usual type but rather the kind of white Dixie cup things you see maybe at a doctors office. The frosting was cloyingly sweet on both cake items. Total for 3 items was $19.85. I hope the other items make up for it that I didn't try but I wouldn't go back again. I asked if the items were baked fresh that day and the girl behind the counter said she didn't know. My guess is that they remain in the display for days based on the taste. read more

I came here yesterday to buy a birthday cake for my coworker. We come here a couple times a year. When I got in nobody was in the front so I rung the bell and she came out. The good thing is the Lady Fingers Bakery serves up the nostalgia from when I frequently indulge in the 80's. The sad thing is that the ownership change (recipes) are more than noticeable. I was a sucker for the mini upside down pineapple cakes and the oatmeal raisin cookies back in the day but I was disappointed today in the dry cake and the unfamiliar flavor on the pineapple top. ordered a custom cake and clearly asked for half one flavor and half another, but what I got was basically all fruit. I really don't understand how "half and half" turned into "just fruit with a bit of the other flavor." I ordered a 6 inches cake. They said it would be made taller, but honestly, it just looked okay, nothing special.Especially disappointing considering the price. The price was even higher than a regular 6-inch cake, and I specifically told them not to put too much cream -- yet the first layer was covered with a thick chunk of it. I spent good money on this cake, and it turned out nothing like what I asked for. The service wasn't great either. Maybe they had too many customers, doesn't really care if I order or not. We had the worst experience with this bakery. We ordered a jungle safari themed cake with specific details for the decor. Not only was the cake nothing like the decor we ordered, but the cake tasted stale and the fruit included inside was definitely not fresh, tasted sour. When we called to complain about the cheap decor and the poor quality ingredients, we were told the manager Phoebe would call back. Ive called several times for the past month and the manager refused to talk. This is a fraudulent vendor. People come to our parties said the cake is really good, moist and not too sweet. We have order custom cake like durian and mandarin cakes. My children eat their cake since they were babies. I had ordered a cake for my baby shower this past Saturday but was unhappy with what I got. I ordered over the phone and it was very easy, sent them a picture of what I wanted and the writing I wanted on there. However, when the cake arrived to me (I had a family member pick it up) I noticed the cake was incomplete (didn't have the writing I had asked for) and it had a big crack on the side. When I called to let them know I was told that it was incomplete (I had the pickup time at 2pm but was picked up around 3:30pm due to an address mix up). ONE day later- I serve the cheesecakes and WOW- It was truly awful. How is there not a trace of acidity or lemon flavor in the lemon curd that was thickly piped on the top? This review is based on customer service. I placed an order via Door Dash as a birthday treat for a friend. There was a mix up with Door Dash and long story short the order was canceled 20 mins before the delivery was to be made and right as the bakery was closing. I was toggling between DD's customer service and Phoebe at Ladyfingers. Both were saying they didn't cancel the order. Despite the bakery closing soon, Phoebe told me she'd wait for me to place the order again via DD. In the end, DD wouldn't allow me to do it again because they were showing the bakery as closed. UGH. The DD rep just apologized and basically couldn't do much else. Thankfully Phoebe came to the rescue, took my order again over the phone, and delivered the treats herself! She texted me when she arrived at the location and even called me after to tell me she had dropped everything off. So appreciative of Phoebe's efforts to rectify the situation and do what she could to not only make a customer happy, but deliver some birthday cheer. Thank you Phoebe! read more

I have wanted to visit Ladyfingers Bakery in Oakland for years and never had a chance until recently. Over the years different friends have commented on the bakery and how delicious the cakes, pastries and cookies are. Last week I had a chance to stop by and was excited to finally experience some of the delicious bakery treats for myself. The service was okay but the space was rather claustrophobic to me because it was so cluttered. I purchased 2 Chocolate Chip cookies, 2 German Chocolate cupcakes, 2 Snickerdoodle cookies, 2 Tea Cake cookies and a small Carrot Cake. Honestly I feel so disappointed and also concerned. I'm disappointed because everything was stale and simply not edible with the exception of the 2 Tea Cake cookies. We had to throw everything else away! 50 dollars waisted.
