Today I had to go to my follow up from my full knee replacement so afterwards my wife & I decided to go here. Sweet Daddy's use to be down in Mandeville many, many years ago but they decided to close down the second location. My wife got the chopped brisket sandwich and she truly enjoyed it and she said it was delicious. I had the boneless rib sandwich with corn nuggets and green beans.. Again everything was truly great, with amazing smoke flavor but not too much! It was so good we decided to get The Kick Off Deal for my daughter & her family because she had a Cochlear Implant done today. Being from Texas, I am very judgmental of bbq esp ribs and brisket. Let's start with our basics, parking is in front, side and back of the restaurant. If it gets crowded...I guess parking next door won't be too bad. The restaurant is super cute. Lots of earthy tons with tons of bbq decors as it should be. I was super excited to see more local bbq joints around! My hubby and I walked up to the counter and greeted by friendly guys who then handed us a menu. We studied it and decided on the three meat combo with two sides. Price is not too expensive but not easy on the wallet. We chose: 1/4 Chicken, ribs and Brisket (fatty pieces) with Mac and Cheese and Potato salad. We also ordered sweet ice tea and bottled Root beer. I noticed they had their soda machine behind the counter but teas are in front where customers could reach. Let's review the entree. Delicious bbq chicken. Fall of the bone type of bbq smoked chicken. Good flavor. Brisket was good too! Not as smoky as I would have liked but better than most places I have eaten. The brisket was tender...it definitely needs sauce to be more flavorful. Without sauce...it's not too flavorful. Ribs were not great. It was tough to eat and not fall off the bone. There wasn't much of a smoke ring that I look for when eating ribs. It was flavorless without the sauce. I like some pull on ribs but this was just not edible for me. Good sides...Mac and cheese was good. It was cheesy and not overly salty. Potato salad is mayo based more than mustard base. Overall, I would come back for the chicken and brisket but will forgo the ribs. Great customer service tho! Nice guys in the front of the house. Helpful! read more

This was by far the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. 2 times in a row. We ordered our food, which was a variety of the 2-meat platters. Upon arrival, they inform us there is no beef brisket. They were also "out" of half the sides on the menu, one employee was undoubtedly high. It was almost a week after Hurricane Isaac and I was craving some good BBQ. I had all but forgotten about Sweet daddy's ever since it closed in Mandeville a few years ago. Upon discovering that Abita BBQ was closed due to storm damage, I set out to find another BBQ restaurant. Upon remembering the Covington location was still open, I sped north to place my order. Inside I was greeted by very friendly staff. I was unsure of the best way to order a large quantity without breaking the bank, but they steered me in the right direction. They had several combos, but in my case, ordering individual items worked out better. My order was ready very quickly so I grabbed it and headed home. My order consisted of brisket, pulled pork, mac n cheese, potato salad, corn nuggets and baked beans. The sliced brisket was slightly smokey and perfect for sandwiches. It came without sauce which is how I prefer my brisket. I can then add the amount of sauce I feel necessary. The pulled pork came pre-mixed with sauce and was good, but I preferred the brisket. I think it would have been better if it too came without sauce, but it was still one of the better versions I have had on the Northshore. The sides were all good, but the corn nuggets are always a treat. There is something special about fried creamed corn and I have been unable to find it anywhere but Sweet Daddy's. If you're on the Northshore and want good BBQ, give Sweet Daddy's a try. read more

Been here a few times and tried out the ribs with bbq beans and mac n cheese this visit. The rib rub was excellent and very delicious and needed little to no BBQ sauce which is what I enjoy about my smoked meats and BBQ. The beans were good and had a few chunks of pulled pork in them. Mac n cheese is made with a penne style noodle and was creamy and had good flavor as well. Best meal I've had here so far. The pulled pork is pretty good here but the brisket has been hit or miss. The brisket was very dry a couple of times and lacked salt but they get it right for the most part. The green beans are pretty decent here for a side order also. read more
