The staff is nice here and attentive. However, it may have been the time of day (5:00pm) but our food was really bad. The ribs were so dry they were cracking apart, the chopped brisket was drowned in barbecue sauce to disguise the taste, the green beans were really really bad, and the sliced brisket was very chewy and had a cigarette ashy aftertaste. The baked beans and potato salad was honestly the only thing on our plate that was good. Even the tea tasted bad. We have eaten there in the past and it was really good.... Today was a drastic change for the worst.... 19.99 for a 3 meat, 17.99 for a 2 meat, and 4.00 for drinks. Had to post something regarding this.... Hopefully it was just an off day! read more

My husband and I stopped here for the first time after hearing rave reviews from friends. We were pleased with everything from the restaurant, the friendly employees and most of all, our food. We both ordered a sandwich plate (one chopped chicken, the other sliced brisket) which came with two sides, and an additional side of cole slaw (which you can choose to be on the side or on your sandwich). We worked hard to eat most of our lunch...a problem we don't usually have to face. There was more than enough food, and it was very satisfying. Unfortunately, we were too stuffed to get dessert. The pecan pie looked delicious, but we'll have to wait for our next visit (and maybe just share a plate lunch) to sample the pie. Good eats! read more

I live in Mandeville and the best BBQ in this ares can be found at sweet daddy's in Covington, their brisket is so tender it almost falls apart and it's thick sliced. Their Ribs, well I've been unable to find any in this area that come close.....I've had a variety of their sides and they are very very good.. although no ones potato Salad seems to make me happy except my mothers. Sweet Daddy's has the finest smoked meats and BBQ on the Northshore. I've never had a bad meal there. Not only is their slow cooked BBQ delicious and the servings large, but the side dishes are equally as good. The brisket, ribs, chicken, and sausage are all moist and tender and their homemade BBQ sauces are downright fantastic. When you eat BBQ, the coleslaw has to be good, and theirs is great. Same with their fries, sweet potato fries, fried okra, corn, and jambalaya (made with smoked chicken & smoked sausage), and many other items. They even have a killer broccoli salad. I will first say that the food isn't bad here. I am giving it one star because I was offended by the prominent display of the "Stars and Bars" throughout the restaurant. I have eaten there several times before, but my most recent return, I noticed a bumper sticker over the kitchen door with the Rebel Flag on it stating "The more people from the North I meet, the more I wonder how the South lost". Then I noticed another. Then I noticed several license plates with it as well. I was honestly offended, and stated such to the nice girl taking my order. I simply cannot support a restaurant that wants to prominently display a prefernece for a time when blacks were enslaved. Well-seasoned and tender full rack of ribs. Just like the ones in my chest cavity. I prefer my ribs stickier and wetter out of the oven (and in my chest cavity) but these tasted pretty good, and there was a fair amount of them. I hate when places short you on ribs. Very disappointed. The Black Angus Beef Brisket on our visit was overcooked and under seasoned. The Pulled Pork was moderately better. It had a better flavor, but also a little dry. The BBQ Beans and Mac N Cheese were blah. The order taker at the counter looked like she was in a miserable mood and was slightly aloof. We tried Sweet Daddy's last night and I was super excited to see that the menu board said one of the special's was Taco Tuesday! My husband got the chicken tacos and I got the pulled pork. I literally took one bite and could not eat any more, it was so spicy that it was inedible. I'm not sure if the sauce that they poured on it was what was so spicy or what, but I really don't mind spicy foods (hey! I'm from Louisiana, but this was ridiculous). My husband said his was insanely hot as well. One of my sides was Mac and cheese and it was great. The other side was jambalaya and it was so black that that it looked charred.
