Fried crawfish and mac n cheese balls

Great food and service. Loved the pulled pork sandwich. Fresh and tasty. The fried crawfish and mac n cheese balls were amazing!

Being from Texas, I am very judgmental of bbq esp ribs and brisket. Let's start with our basics, parking is in front, side and back of the restaurant. If it gets crowded...I guess parking next door won't be too bad. The restaurant is super cute. Lots of earthy tons with tons of bbq decors as it should be. I was super excited to see more local bbq joints around! My hubby and I walked up to the counter and greeted by friendly guys who then handed us a menu. We studied it and decided on the three meat combo with two sides. Price is not too expensive but not easy on the wallet. We chose: 1/4 Chicken, ribs and Brisket (fatty pieces) with Mac and Cheese and Potato salad. We also ordered sweet ice tea and bottled Root beer. I noticed they had their soda machine behind the counter but teas are in front where customers could reach. Let's review the entree. Delicious bbq chicken. Fall of the bone type of bbq smoked chicken. Good flavor. Brisket was good too! Not as smoky as I would have liked but better than most places I have eaten. The brisket was tender...it definitely needs sauce to be more flavorful. Without sauce...it's not too flavorful. Ribs were not great. It was tough to eat and not fall off the bone. There wasn't much of a smoke ring that I look for when eating ribs. It was flavorless without the sauce. I like some pull on ribs but this was just not edible for me. Good sides...Mac and cheese was good. It was cheesy and not overly salty. Potato salad is mayo based more than mustard base. Overall, I would come back for the chicken and brisket but will forgo the ribs. Great customer service tho! Nice guys in the front of the house. Helpful!

    Sausage sandwich plate

Excellent, consistent, old school BBQ joint. Can't go wrong with the brisket, or the chicken. I love their baked beans, they have as much meat in them as beans it seems, good and hearty. You can also get jambalaya as a side which is pretty good too.

If you are ever near Mandeville and need some super tasty BBQ then look no further than Sticks!…read more I've only visited Sticks once, but I was definitely blown away by how tasty everything was. Below are a few highlights from my first visit. MEATS: I tried both the brisket and sausage. Both were super tasty. I didn't eat all the sausage, so I took the rest home to reheat for later. It was even better reheated! The barbecue sauce that they serve for their smoked meats is super tasty! So, if you take leftovers home, be sure to ask for some extra sauce to go. SIDES: I tried two sides on my visit---the potato salad and greens. Both were pretty tasty, but the potato salad was especially out-of-this-world!! APPETIZERS: Yeah, I know it's weird that I'm reporting on appetizers last, but I visited Sticks at lunch the day of an LSU game. So, I ordered a "to go" order of 6 grilled wings for later! Don't you just love grilled or smoked wings? They are so much better than the fried ones that so many restaurants serve. I wish many more restaurants understood that grilled (or smoked) wings are superior! No batter, no frying.... just a really good basting! And, yes, later that night, I ate the hell out the 6 wings I got "to go," dousing them in Sticks' homemade BBQ sauce and Blue Cheese dressing. They were finger-licking good!! Try Sticks if you live nearby or are traveling through. You will certainly be pleased.

We have our favorites on both sides of the lake, but I recently read some great reviews somewhere online about Crazy Pig Southern Kitchen with locations in both Mandeville and Covington. After speaking with our friends we decided to dine at the Covington location of Crazy Pig Southern Kitchen. Inside the entrance, the restaurant posts their policy that you will not be seated at a table until all parties have arrived, which is understandable considering the huge amount of business they have. My wife and I arrived before our friends who were running a little late. The Hostess, Jill, asked me how many in our party and I told her four, but the other couple was running late and would be arriving in about 20 minutes. We took a seat in the empty waiting area inside the entrance. The restaurant appeared to have only one or two empty tables available inside when I arrived on a beautiful day. Five to ten minutes later the waiting area was full (approx. ten people). The restaurant was extremely noisy with all their customers enjoying their meals and conversing with friends/family. I noticed that there were approximately ten tables located in front of the restaurant in a beautiful covered patio, so I asked Jill if we could have a table outside once our friends arrived in about five more minutes because one of them was somewhat physically handicapped. There was only one empty table in the patio at the time. Jill explained that since she had a reservation in the patio for a party of eight that would be arriving soon, so she had been holding it for another available outside table to put together to accommodate this party. However, she said she would gladly give us the table. By this time, the waiting room was full of people and overflowing outside the entrance. I had given my seat to a lady and stepped outside to wait for my friends, who I noticed had arrived and parking their car. I told Jill and she seated us at the table in the patio. The four of us ordered different things on the menu, which were fantastic. Although the restaurant was packed, the waitress AND Jill visited our table several times to ensure we were enjoying our meals. Crazy Pig Southern Kitchens' ambiance, service, menu items (along with portion sizes) and prices were absolutely astounding. We were all very impressed and grateful for a beautiful dining experience. Special thanks to Jill who was abundantly pleasant to deal with. Crazy Pig Southern Kitchen certainly placed Jill in the right position.

We were seated in the bar area where there were about 5 televisions on. Not what I expected from a fine dining restaurant. First the cocktail came out un-drinkable, that was fixed. We ordered the turtle soup and seafood gumbo, they were good. Less than 10 minutes after we ordered the meal it came out, it was like they were rushing us out. The steaks we ordered cooked medium were purplish blue in the middle. I showed it to the waitress and asked if that was their medium, she apologized and said no. They were brought back to the kitchen and of course now overcooked, because you can't really fix that. We ordered potatoes au gratin they were good. We ordered the brussels sprouts, which the waitress recommended. They tasted like overcooked boiled brussels that had been scooped out of a cafeteria tray after swimming all day in soggy bacon. Gross! They are a steak house, if you can't get that right...! The waitress did remove the un-edible brussels from the bill. There are too many wonderful restaurants in downtown Covington that don't claim to be steakhouses and can do them much better! I didn't see one local old Covington person in there which was very telling. Such a shame, they used to be so good! Guess this will go the way of the Winner's Circle.
