This place is such a fun hangout spot! There are cozy couches as well as productive desk areas. The wraps and crepes are good. Love coming here to do computer work or to have a coffee talk with a friend. However.. couldn't give it 5 stars because I don't like their coffee. I am a barista so I know how a good deal about coffee, and I don't really understand how it could be so bad each time... either its bitter (meaning they let the espresso shots die), there are weird textures in it (like crumbs got in, or their sauces/flavors are not made or mixed properly), or the flavors just don't work and taste odd. Also even when it is slow they still don't come to the sitting areas and clean up very often. BUT: it's still SUPER fun to hang here and worth at least a few visits. I stopped in the Friday morning after Thanksgiving just a little before 10. There were people there but not crowded at all. It had a library feel to it and it's one of those places people could go to just chill and have some good coffee. It was my first time here so I got an old-fashioned donut and Kolache. The donut was a great representation of what you would expect of an old-fashioned donut. It was light, a great amount of those fun air pockets and a sufficient amount of cinnamon-sugar coating. Technically, Kolache's only have fruit filling but this is what they called them. My Kolache had sausage and cheese in it. The bread was nice and soft and complimented the sausage and cheese well. I personally would have liked a little more cheese but overall very tasty. I did not have a problem finishing it. I had to get a coffee too so I got a house favorite, Sweet Eugene Latte. It's a traditional latte with vanilla, brown sugar and cinnamon to finish it off. A great latte with just a touch of sweetness. Five for coffee but less for food. I usually get the turkey avocado wrap which is great but we tried crepes-not fantastic- and the chicken salad sandwich- totally off. The panini was delicious and the cheesecake was some of the best i have ever had! If i ever find myself back in college station I will definitely go back to Sweet Eugene's for that amazing dessert. Coffee is really good, as is the food. Ordering, particularly when they are busy is something of a cluster. Long line going out the door, employees asking for your order before you've been in a position to actually see a menu. If you don't yet know what you want (because you haven't seen the menu, rather and giving you one, the go on to the next person in line behind you. You can end up with 2 or 3 employees taking your order. NO organization of effort, employees each doing everything, from taking orders to preparing coffee/food. As a result, things fell through the cracks, I ended up having to remind them of part of my order three times. Highly recommend it for the coffee and food, if they aren't too crowded. If there's a line, forget it and move on. read more

If you're getting a DRINK that's not coffee, this is the place you're looking for. But I honestly can't recommend this place less for a cup of coffee. I've tried a good portion of the menu to give it a fair try. The vanilla latte tasted and looked like they gave me powdered hot chocolate. The iced amore latte gave me the worst stomach pains. And really any of the iced coffees/lattes are a totally miss (think iced coffee from Panera). This is my favorite coffee shop in College Station. I love the couches, they remind me of Central Perk from Friends. I enjoy coming here for reading, studying, and chatting with friends. You sometimes have to wait a while to get a good spot, it can get crowded around midterms or finals time. They have great drink options, I usually get the dark coffee but I have tried their frapuccinos and they are great. Their sandwiches are really good, I like their turkey avocado one. Went in with my friend and asked about the options. As we went up to order most of the staff was messing around instead of paying attention to the people in line. It was later in the afternoon so we asked if there was anything with less caffeine and the cashier responded rudely saying "well, it's coffee what do you expect." Between Mugwalls and Sweet Eugene's, I'm going to have to go with Mugwalls. Saying that, I'm going to also mention that both these coffee shops are definitely not my favorites--in all of Texas. However, there's really only so much to compare to in CStat. First off, I'm going to list the pros: TONS of seats although weirdly sized tables so if you have a lot of books, you better hope you're lucky enough to get the best sized table. The service is awesome--I've only been twice, but each time, the baristas have been super sweet and so great to talk to. On to everything else: To name what I've tasted: an iced vanilla latte, an iced mokalada (I have no idea if I spelled that right), an iced toffee nut latte, and a white peppermint mocha. What had been recommended was the toffee and the mokalada--hot or iced. I didn't like any of them, which is extremely sad to have tried so many drinks and still think they're not great in any way. Maybe I need to start trying hot drinks or something or just regular drinks because their iced specialties felt so off. To start with, the iced coffee--lattes, any kind of lattes, should have espresso as the base. What's in my drink, and I say this because I saw them make my drink, is cold brewed coffee that tastes extremely watered down. What cold brew should be in: regular iced coffee. What cold brew should not be in: iced lattes. There is a difference. I think all coffee shops should know that. An iced vanilla latte is honestly one of the more basic drinks, so I was really surprised when even that was ruined. And on top of that, when I asked for an extra shot of espresso, they pulled out a refrigerated pitcher of iced coffee and poured a "shot" into my cup. Excuse me, do you KNOW what a shot of espresso even is?! I don't know if all of the iced specialties were made like how the vanilla latte was made. However, each drink tasted like watered down coffee with lots of syrup of whatever kind and tons of milk. It didn't taste like coffee, and it sure did not taste like espresso. Maybe I need to try their specialties hot--maybe. Also, any coffee shop that focuses on so many specialties doesn't seem to actually care about the coffee--only the syrup that hides all the flavor. To me, this shows their lack of care in brewing a good cup of coffee. Or maybe I need to try a plain black cup of coffee to see what I'm missing here. So next time I'm in CStat, I'll do that. And maybe I'll try their food too and be able to give a better, nicer review. But as of right now, Sweet Eugene's is definitely one of my least favorite coffee shops. To be more frank--their coffee does not taste like coffee, their lattes are not lattes, and the only reason I ever plan to come back is to see if their regular, straight up black, hot coffees are good without all that extra sha-bang they add into their specialties. read more

So this joint is literally straight out of a Disney TV show coffee shop... literally one the COOLEST coffee joints I've ever seen in my life. The staff is friendly and whenever there are lines these people PUMP out the espresso and mixed drink selections quickly. There is usually no parking near here and is usually always packed with people. The wifi is fast and there is a lot of seating, and the theme here is epic. I would shoot a TV Show out of this place. They have a mannequin that looks so real, that at first you think someone has climbed onto a ledge of the the wall to peer at costumers! There was the best painting of Christopher Walken as a general of war that I have ever seen- so regal! And all of the different rooms make you feel like you are visiting an eccentric aunt either finds stuff at a garage sales or make it herself (I envision Iris Apfel)! As with every trendy thing, popularity ebbs and flows. For a long time there Sweet Eugene's became unbearable. I mean, every single table had a minimum of three Bibles on it (I'm a Christian and this STILL weirds me out). I mean, I know this is College Station and all, but it just seems a little strange to go anywhere with that much conformity. The donuts are great and I hear the coffee is fantastic (not a coffee drinker). The decor is fun and they always have fun thing to buy (I got the greatest purse ever as gift from there). I miss this place so much! It was a staple of my college years (but to be fair, it's been a couple years since I've been back). It gets quite crowded at night- especially around finals, but they also become a 24 hr place around then. I actually worked there for a while, and I LOVE the cinnamon rolls, scones, and kolaches- ALL the goods are baked fresh by the baker every night! I can attest to the fact that they throw out all the leftover donuts every night, because they often went in my belly. The dinner crepes and paninis are awesome. Try them! The owner was incredibly rude to me as I was packing up to leave the store. I used an outlet after I asked the employees for permission and the owner completely freaked out on me. He was getting in my face (about a foot away) and yelling all during COVID-19 times. I kindly told him that I had asked the employees for permission, but he still continued to yell and be rude. I just don't understand how the owner can treat a paying customer like this. How am I supposed to know that I can't use that outlet even though employees specifically told me that I could? This place is awesome! It's like my second home. The environment here is so comfortable and welcoming. It's also got this weird, funky, indie, bohemian feel to the place because of the unusual decor. It's just a great place to be! The coffee has never disappointed me. I always stick to what I know, but the Toffee Nut Latte and Snickers Latte are amazing! Donuts are pretty good too. They do serve food, but it's a bit pricey for what you get, and it can sometimes take a while for them to make your food because a lot of the baristas get side tracked talking to customers. Also, this place is a hot spot for groups. A lot of groups come in to chat, and I've seen book groups, Bible groups, and study groups all come in...at the same time...and try to talk over each other. The brewed coffee is slightly better than the store-brand Folgers they make in your break room, which means I can easily make better coffee at home, so what's the point in spending money at a coffee shop? So, why is it so popular? The ambiance. Of all the coffee shops in College Station, this one is the coolest on looks alone - it's eclectically decorated, with a hip hodge-podge of couches and tables and multiple rooms. Probably most students who come here don't actually care what their coffee tastes like, but just like the atmosphere. While I also like the decor as well, it's usually too crowded when I go. The only reason I go there is for the food, as my favorite CS coffee shop (Muldoon's) doesn't serve enough food items. I love their crepes - I get the Crepes of Wrath (chicken, avocados, pesto) but have them add Spinach, and the Chocolate Monkey (bananas and chocolate sauce or nutella) is a great treat as well. read more

Definitely the funkiest coffee shop I've found in College Station. There are lots of different areas to this shop and, on a Saturday, it was still pretty full. Despite the crowd, it was big enough that there were still plenty of seating options - window bar seats, individual tables, group tables, lots of couches. People were actually talking here too, which has unfortunately become an uncommon occurrence at many coffee shops. However, the sound does carry. I wasn't trying and I could hear every conversation that was going on in the far left "chamber". I don't believe there was any music playing, which is probably a good thing. It might have been overkill. There's plenty of eclectic decorative pieces and decent lighting throughout. There's also a fridge (unplugged) full of board games if you're looking for something to do other than study. It is a little bit difficult to get to , just because of the flow of traffic. I was right around the corner from it, less than a block, and it took me eight minutes to get here. It's a crowded location, with an HERB and shopping center very close by. That'd be my only deterrent to coming here on the future. Otherwise, this is a really groovy place with good coffee. read more

Social Worth: Sweet Eugene's uses direct trade coffee, which as far as I know is the best kind out there. Direct trade means that they buy their coffee beans directly from the farmer, cutting out the middle-man that even Fair Trade has to deal with. Therefore, the farmer makes a bit more money, which means a lot in countries where an extra dollar a day can mean the difference between starving and thriving. Now, as far as the actual coffee goes, I am not the best person to ask. I drink maybe 10-20 coffees per year. To me, it tasted fine, but I am no connoisseur. I am much more of a tea person, and their selection in that department is quite limited. I like the decorations at Sweet Eugene's. They make me want to go buy some old stuff to repurpose (yay recycling!). I love the free wi-fi. Basically, I like this place and would not mind going any time my friends choose it. read more

I liked the Pina colada banana smoothie and my friend lived the mango smoothie. The place has huge reading halls with comfortable seats and tables.
