Needed coffee very badly. First off, they took about 15 minutes to see us at the drive-through. We asked the poor young barista what she recommended and she rattled off with some sugary, creamy sensation that didn't sound like coffee. Ordered a cortado. TBH it tasted like they had stolen the vanilla latte creamer from the shell gas station down the street. Sorry guys but I actually really love coffee but this was one of the worst representations of the craft I have seen in a long time. On principle I never go to Starbucks, but last night I wish I had. Probably works great for the college crowd who don't really like coffee but like wanna-be atmospheres and sugary drinks. Although I recommend this coffee shop, I seriously don't recommend their cappuccino. Way, way too much froth - very little was the actual drink. You have to fight through A LOT of foam just to get to any liquid. Or get a second empty cup to scoop it away. I politely asked about it, and they verified this is how they make it. Stopped here for the first time today. Great decor inside with plenty of seating, additional seating outside complete with a patio. The barista was very friendly and gave me a breakdown of their most popular drinks after I let her know it was my first time there. I ordered the Eugene's latte given that is their signature drink. Perfect amount of vanilla and brown sugar. I recommend if you like a sweet latte. Price point is less expensive than a lot of other coffee shops I've been to. 16 oz for $4.11 or 12 oz for $3.69. I love trying out new coffee shops since I'm a coffee addict but this place is overrated. I came here being told this is one of the best coffee shops in CS. Unfortunately, my experience here wasn't the greatest. When ordering, I asked the cashier what was in one of their special drinks and she really couldn't give me an answer so I asked if I could get just an iced vanilla Latte instead. She got weird and said the barista was already making it but he was literally behind not even starting yet. My girlfriend then had to repeat that I didn't want it. We tried their blueberry muffin and kolache. They weren't bad. The interior is also pretty cool. So we waited for our drink and she kind of just stared at us while we waited then got annoyed and said that the drinks on our table were ours. I said thanks and she responded with nothing. Customer service is always the most important to me but I brushed it off. First thing I noticed is that I had 4 ice cubes in my drink so it was lukewarm. It tasted like watery burnt milk. One of my favorite coffee shops in BCS. My favorite drink is the iced mocha! It's not overly sweet, but sweet enough. My boyfriend loves the iced snickers. It's often super busy inside, a lot of people come to study, work, meet with friends so I often drive thru. The baristas weren't very helpful in telling us where to place used plates, and overall the place was too crowded for comfort. Just moved to Bryan a few days ago...Already took a few days to unpack and semi-settle in. I just had to get out of my apartment and experience this city. What better place to go visit first than a recommended coffee shop? ...So I had decent hopes because a good friend of mine recommended this place to me when I asked her what good coffee shops were in town. When I pulled up at first I saw that it looked kinda old but I know all too well that looks can be deceiving so I suppressed my initial hesitant judgement and walked right in! As soon as I walked in, I could sense the dark musty-ness of the coffee house. This house of java was more like a breakfast shop and a study room rather than a coffee shop at first glance. I can tell people are serious about their coffee/espresso when they have the start of the art espresso machines in the front. Instead, Eugene apparently decided to have the espresso machine, behind the counter and not up and center as to not attract attention..hmm I wonder why, I thought. As I proceeded to walk towards the counter, I noticed a handful of tables with empty dishes sprinkled with crumbs all over, there were of a few of these such tables. This led me to assume that this House of Java was a place where people gathered for a breakfast or a brunch maybe over a little chit chat. Most places that take coffee and espresso seriously only serve snacks at most. Their concentration and passion is on coffee, not on the glass showcase of pastries and assortments of treats like Eugene displays. The clerk told me about their dark, medium, and light roasts for the day which I liked to hear about. I asked about their espresso blends and I might have heard wrong, but they didn't have many choices for the espresso. I was told that the barista could make an 'eye opener' which is some coffee poured into a latte. Hmm..now in my book an eye opener would be multiple shots of espresso with a little bit of steamed milk. Secondly...there is no coffee drink known as an eye opener. That's simply a made up name with a catch just to market to customers. Anyways, I ordered my baseline, that drink which I base all coffee shops on equally. A simple yet complex: latte. No flavors, no frills, no twists or syrups. This should be 1/3 espresso and 2/3 milk. The espresso should be velvety and have a nice viscosity and caramelized brown color and it should extract for about 25 - 30 seconds. Too long and it's under extracted and too watery, too quick and it's over extracted and too bitter. Foaming milk is another monster, lets just say for right now that the milk should have a velvety microfoam after you finish steaming it properly. This does not mean frothy bubbles ontop of your latte like its some kind of espresso bubble bath. Bassically, one should not be able to feel the textural difference between the froth, the milk and the espresso. ..So now you can imagine what I thought about Sweet Eugene's when I saw the espresso dripping into the cup and it was too fast and too dark. I already had my doubts that I'd get a good latte but I waited patiently for it. As soon as the cup was presented to me, I saw that there was a barrage of foamy bubbles on top. Tsk tsk... *sigh* my hope was shattered right then. I knew it wasn't a good coffee house. When I reached my table to drink it, the espresso and milk were homogenized together, no doubt about that; however, there was no micro foam, no velvety texture, too many frothy bubbles and not enough body to the latte. I could taste that the beans weren't very fresh - it definitely had a caffeine kick to it but the taste of the coffee bean wasn't really too prominent at all. The drink its self was a little bit more smoother than a cafe au lait, which I expect it to be because this is steamed milk with espresso, however, it just doesn't have that level of perfection which I'm looking for. Fail. Sorry Sweet Eugene's, your latte isn't so sweet after all. Although...this is a good place to study, to hang out, to socialize with friends and conduct various other meetings. ..I guess my quest for a good coffee house in Bryan/College Station will continue! 1 star for their sub par latte and 3 stars for the nice ambiance which reminds me of Austin. :-) read more

This 5 Star rating is solely based on their Iced White Mocha because it absolutely refreshing, light but naturally sweet, delicious. If you want to have an iced mocha that doesn't give you a cavity on sip then this place is for you. It's naturally melted Ghirardelli white chocolate and coffee mixed and nothing else, no added sugars or sweeteners. Also they have a wide variety of baked goodies as well. read more

The thin fluff of the sweet crepes cannot transport you to the artist corner in Paris but brings me close to Montrose's Artistic cafes in Houston. Maybe it is the artistic flair of Westheimer I miss or it is my inability to make nice crepes. From time to time, I find myself wandering into this coffee shop with a desire for a crepe. Crepes are a tricky mess and doing at home can have a few troubles. Pan, heat, the right mixture of air and liquidity can stress a person. Sweet Eugene's is a place where students and locals gather to sling a cup of coffee, bit a doughnut and fix eyes in books. Most of the lunch crepes are okay. It is stuffed with either fresh raw spinach and slices of provolone cheese or Ceaser drizzled cucumbers and avocados. The sweet crepes are worth a try for the first time. Powder sugar sits upon the crepe with whip cream. I recommend any of their sweet crepes with their unique flavored lattes. Don't be amazed about their foam or latte making skills. No latte art here. The coffee beans are decent. Nothing which screams it should be the best coffee shop in the BCS. What the Buzz Coffee's new shipment of Papa New Guinea beans are a far better brew than this cafe's. I don't recommend coming here at 7:30 am in the morning during weekdays. You will be bombarded with parents dropping off kids to school grabbing their Starbuck's alternative of a cup of joe. Why someone pays for a cup of coffee rather than spending the same money for at least a nice flavor shot in a Café au lait is beyond me. I ordered a crepe and it took them 30 minutes to make it. It was by a clear mile the worst crepe I have ever had. It was essentially moist bread wrapping with strawberry jam on it. I'm not sure about the other menu items because I haven't tried them (and probably won't since I'm not coming back) but I certainly wouldn't recommend their crepes. Grossly overpriced too. Sweet Eugene's is hands down my favorite coffee shop in College Station. It's a required stop when I'm in Aggieland. My go to is the Iced Mocha and an Old Fashion Donut on the side. I would rank Sweet Eugene's higher based on the drinks and food, but their customer service is questionable at times. My friend had never been to the shop (or Aggieland in years) and instead of apologizing for misunderstanding her order, she was told to "order it this way next time." It's so large however there's an abundance of nooks and crannies so every spot is intimate enough for a date or studying. They offer a bunch of unique coffees like a waffle latte, snickers latte and plenty more. The menu is pretty extensive with sweet and savory edibles as well. The drink I typically get is the white raspberry truffle latte. It's rather sweet from the raspberry syrup but hey at least you know you're getting your money's worth. You really get the raspberry taste but the truffle adds qualities that make it worthy to post about. It's not over powering, it creates a kind of added creamy butteryness if that makes sense? While being slightly chocolatey I guess mixed with the espresso. It's just a great cup of coffee if you're looking to try something different check them out! read more

Boy, has this place been a lifesaver for me when I can't concentrate on homework in my apartment! The ambiance cannot be beat if you're looking for a more relaxed and homey feel for studying late, doing homework or just grabbing a latte with friends. You can go from a small table to a group table to a couch, depending on what you're feeling. The amount of seating here is plentiful! I will say that although having many seating options, they fill up quicker than an online physics class, so get here early or you'll have to watch for a table like a hawk until one opens up! The baristas are some of the nicest people you will meet in college station; I always find myself having such a pleasant conversation with them while I'm waiting for my coffee. Take all the time you need to look at their in depth menu here! Coffee tips: The coffee at Sweet Eugene's is in the name: SWEET. So if you have a low tolerance for sweet drinks, I highly recommend that you ask to get it half as sweet. A half sweetened Iced Mocha is pretty tasty! It's a nice bakery with so many coffee options. It was almost full on a sunday evening we went to. Luckily got a table in the library type looking room (cute room with quirky decor). I ordered waffle latte and turkey pannini both were great tasting just it took too long to get the stuff we ordered. We were tired and hungry and place was crowded so wait seemed to be too long. A place worth trying if you are in College Station area. Sorry could not take pictures because as soon as we got or order on the table we just attacked and ate everything pretty quick! read more
