Doc Sweets is a great shop in Clawson for filling stockings, Easter baskets, sourcing party favor…read moretreats or just finding your favorite (but hard to locate) candy. We were picking up some little candies for treat bags and they also sell the treat bags/ties for a great deal. There is so much to choose from and really great deals. The customer service is top-notch, as well.

I'm also a candy editor for my job, so this was like being a kid in a candy shop, no pun intended. I was specifically looking for Fruit Stripe gum, since the company decided to discontinue it. They unfortunately did not have it but they had a plethora of other pretty cool candies and chocolates. I ended up buying a few peanut butter cups that I had never seen before, a Hot Tamales candy cane for my fiance, some coconut strip things for myself, and a few other goodies. If money was no object, I also would have bought the Ted Lasso branded candies and ALL of the Golden Girls stuff, as that's one of my favorite TV shows. They had a nice selection of freeze-dried candy as well, which is a new trend, but they were a little expensive, at $7.99 per bag. The saleslady was very friendly here as well and asked if I had any questions or needed help with anything, when I was in the store. I wish I had visited here earlier in my Clawson residency, but I will definitely be back.

There was way too much sauerkraut and very little small slivers of kielbasa that looked old, tasted bland and totally destroyed my ever wanting to order it again. Polish Market continues to be my go to market for Polish sausage in Metror Detroit. I have tied most if not all of the other well known named Polish centric markets in metro Detroit but for my money this Market makes the best sausage. Their large selection of tasty sausage with fair pricing is second to none. In particular, I consider their cherry wood sausage to be exceptional where this is my go to wood species when I do my own smoking which I do on a weekly basis. It adds such a good and unique flavor to meat that I am surprised that more smoked meat centric businesses in the area dont do it. Sausage aside, I like to buy their Polish cookies/treats from Polish Market for my 90 something year old in laws who are immigrants from Poland where they get a huge kick out of these baked goods that remind them of their heritage and original homeland. It lights up their eyes when I say I bought Polish cookies for them. Sometimes the simplest things are the best things in life! (:

I enjoy finding hidden gems on Yelp. An excellent small business like Mrs. Mason's deserves more attention. Mrs. Mason's specializes in handmade premium brittle and brittle bonbons. The owner was the only person when I visited on a Sunday morning. She gave me samples, and everything I tried in Mrs. Mason's brittle and bonbon collection was delicious, crunchy, and buttery. I bought an 8 oz. gift box of Heart & Soul Brittle ($26.95) for my college professor. I also purchased an 8 oz. bag of Bare-Naked Cashew Brittle ($22.95) for my mom. They both thought the brittle was delicious. A bit pricey, but it makes an excellent gift for anyone who likes brittle or bonbons.

The brittle has a nice thicker layer of the toffee, two layers of the white chocolate as well as the semi-sweet chocolate. It's a nice balance of crunchy hard toffee and melt in your mouth chocolates. Makes for a fantastic holiday gift and treat for friends and family alike. The smaller 4 ounce is great to accompany a charcuterie gift set or a stocking stuffer too.
