En route to Florida from Texas and after several road delays found ourselves in Shreveport at lunchtime. A quick look at Yelp showed Strawn's Eat Shop listed at number one in diners locally. The inside is a mix of old timey and funky with lots of creative murals painted on the walls. We quickly received our drinks and ordered. Our waitress was outstanding but I didn't get her name. Our food was soon there and we dug in. My chicken fried steak was good but the mashed potatoes and cornbread were the stars. I'm not a big fan of salad or green beans but they were pretty good for vegetation. My wife enjoyed her catfish basket. She prefers cornmeal on catfish over flour breading and was pleased with the crispy cornmeal and the generous portion. Now for the main event. Pie! Strawn's is known for their strawberry pie and for good reason. It was the best strawberry pie that I have ever eaten. The whipped cream topping was transcendent and paired perfectly with the strawberries. My photo does not do this pie justice. My wife went with coconut pie and while it was very good the strawberry was the winner. Looking forward to returning to Straw's Eat Shop in the future. read more

Today the service was well below the normal standard as was the food. Our server debated with me about the biscuits and gravy I ordered after she brought biscuits and a jelly rack. Normally the service is fast and accurate. The eggs and meat were over cooked and the potatoes were well undercooked. Normally the meal is better. Couldn't send it back because the server never returned to the table. I won't return any time soon. read more

AGAIN, this place is never fails to disappoint! We were in Shreveport for a graduation with our family and when they wanted to meet for breakfast before they flew out, of course we took them to Strawn's. Everyone was impressed with the service and the food. The only thing that dint go right is the food was so good, they were too full to get the strawberry pie. Well, everyone except me. I sure did order my usual BLT, had me a tender, flaky, buttery biscuit (how could I not) and a creamy, sweet, juicy fresh piece of strawberry pie. Our waitress was fabulous! She put on such a southern show. She had a wonderful personality and sense of humor. She was very kind to my 3 year old niece who absolutely loved her. The experience was special. They have a variety of reasonably-priced options for breakfast (note: lunch menu starts at 11a or 12p) The sandwich doesn't look like much, but it does taste pretty decent. Maybe it's the soft toasted hamburger bun or the sausage or egg, but it was better than it appeared. They have some icebox pies that we didn't get a chance to try because we were too full, but otherwise this place is a decent option for breakfast. Waitstaff was nice and attentive. We were in town visiting one of the casinos and decided that we wanted to grab breakfast. I found them place due to the high ratings and I'm so glad that we decided to give it a shot! You do have to drive through some not so great neighborhoods/areas to get here from the casinos but don't let that stop you! The interior of the restaurant gives you old time-y diner vibes. The walls are all painted and you can tell that a lot of the customers are regulars here. I ordered the two eggs breakfast and my husband got the hungry man breakfast. There was so much food between us and we didn't finish it all but that didn't stop us from trying some of their famous pies! We got the strawberry pie after our waitress told us that was their most popular one and it was delicious! Overall, we enjoyed our breakfast and time at this restaurant! First time going to this old fashion famous eatery. You seat yourself and a server comes to you. We had great service and our waitress was friendly and attentive. We had the grilled chicken sandwich and fries. The chicken sandwich was really good and the fries were ok, could have been fried longer. We also tried the 2 stack pancakes and those were very tasty! Recommended to us while visting Shreveport and boy we were not steered wrong. SO impressed with this place. We were told to get breakfast and their famous strawberry icebox pie so that's what we did. And no exaggeration: this is the best chicken fried steak, scrambled eggs, and pie we've EVER HAD. Seriously. I am going to be dreaming about it for a while. This is just everything a diner should be - amazing food and service, quirky interior, eclectic crowd. Hopefully we can come back someday. One caveat: our breakfast potatoes were undercooked (and I mean undercooked) when she first brought our plates. We had the most amazing lunch here. We stopped off when we were in town on a road road trip. The servers could not have been more welcoming to us and our two boys. Mr Strawn himself even came to say hello! We had the chicken fried steak which was very tasty and a huge serving. Lovely sides of Lima beans and salad. I really liked the white gravy. We also tried the famous strawberry pie. It more than lived up to its reputation! Our boy called it happy cake it was so delicious, mum and dad agree! We had appointment in Shreveport yesterday, I recommend Strawn's to my sister & Dad for lunch after appt. For $13. Lunch specials, the food definitely wasn't worth the price. Shredded iceberg lettuce with the smallest amount of tomato I've EVER seen in a salad was served with our "lunch special", Chicken fried steak tasted like a Banquet frozen steak, mashed potatoes & gravy were cold. Guy at cash register on his phone and barely spoke to us when we entered and continued playing on his phone as he said "just sit anywhere". Won't be back, definitely learned our lesson. read more
