I love this place! Other then the fact that the hours are ridiculous. I never know when it's open and when it is it's just not convenient.

Specialty Prices for Cheap Grocery Shortcuts, Zero Transparency, and a Toxic Culture…read moreI will never support this business again. They work incredibly hard to project a wholesome, professional, and community-oriented image, but it is entirely a front. Once you start paying attention to what is happening behind the counter, it becomes clear that this place is a total rip-off and a deeply toxic environment. The customer service feels completely fake and exhausting. It behaves like a cliquey high school locker room with absolutely zero diversity. If you pay attention to the staff, the workers constantly look drained of life, stressed out, and completely miserable. I have talked to former workers who revealed that if a staff member doesn't fit into their intense, insular religious worldview, they are heavily gossiped about, bashed behind closed doors, and forced out. Management actively allows cliques of workers to gang up on specific employees, firing people unfairly just to avoid dealing with the internal drama. They put on a massive show of faking friendliness to your face, but the moment you leave, they sit in the back trash-talking the exact customers who just wanted to have an honest chat. The food quality is a complete joke for the specialty prices they charge. You can literally go to McDonald's and get significantly higher-quality food with actual preparation standards. Here, the "fresh" breakfast eggs are lazily microwaved inside a basic cup instead of being cooked on a real flat-top grill. The turkey wraps are just cheap Walmart meat and processed cheese thrown into a tortilla and zapped. The biscuits and gravy come straight out of a mass-produced, heavily salted retail can, and the avocado toast is just basic bread with a low-tier pre-made avocado spread from Aldi. What is most disturbing is that there is absolutely zero nutritional transparency--the staff cannot even tell you the calorie counts because they literally do not know what they are serving you. The menu is a massive hidden calorie trap. Their "specialty" $5 muffins are just basic recipes pulled offline that pack an undisclosed 800 to 1,000+ calories because the base is completely loaded with white sugar, yogurt, and massive amounts of straight olive oil or melted butter. Their blended frappes easily clear 1,000 calories; even if you try to order sugar-free, their base mix is a cheap retail powder that packs 300 calories per tablespoon, and they dump multiple scoops into the blender. The drinks are a total scam designed to hide a lack of barista skill. They try to look fancy by displaying Bella Goose Coffee's "liberator" beans, but they completely drown out the espresso shots by pouring them over cheap, watered-down Aldi milk and ice until it tastes like tinted water. Their sweet cold foam is just a heavy sugar trick made by cups of heavy cream with an entire can of sweetened condensed milk. If you order a matcha latte, you get a bitter, muddy, grass-tasting mess because they use Jade Leaf, which is the lowest-quality culinary-grade powder you can buy, yes i know what jade leaf tastes like i can taste it when i go to a coffee shop and that's the matcha they're using. The health department seriously needs to step in and do a surprise inspection. While they push the staff to keep the customer-facing counters looking clean, the actual storage habits inside the back fridge and how the food ingredients are actively handled would absolutely disgust any paying customer. Save your money, preserve your health, and support a business that serves real food and treats people with actual respect.

When I opened the bag I could tell right away it was too fine. I attempted to pull a shot, but got nothing. It was most definitely Turkish grind. Since I could do nothing with the bag, I went back to explain this was ground too fine. The same individual was there and reacted with condensation, saying this is indeed espresso grind, which is basically Turkish, and he doesn't know what kind of maker I have so he cannot dial it in. I said I have never had this problem in the years I have done this at other shops. He acted like he could do nothing for me, so when I pressed that I can do nothing with these beans I spent money on, he got on the phone. At one point I heard him say, "Yes, I tried to explain that to her." As if I didn't know what I was talking about. I was finally given the option to get a bag of beans without having them ground, which is all I really wanted. I can grind the beans in my own grinder at home. I went down the street and bought a bag of beans there. I asked for espresso grind and mentioned that the last place gave me Turkish. She had to look up the appropriate setting, but she got it perfect. When I got home and opened the bag of beans from Black Iron, the beans were oily and smelled burnt. My coffee tasted that way, too. I was rather shocked because the latter I had ordered with my purchase was not bad. I had to use them up slowly by masking the bad taste with my go-to beans.

They have since changed owners since I last visited, and had the opportunity to meet the new owners daughter who was working on bar that day. She is so friendly and makes a great macchiato! I used to be a barista for a few years and have since become an at home espresso enthusiast. This cafe produces delicious, quality espresso made with care. Quiet, clean, and cozy. Great study spot or catch up with friends. Can't wait to return next time I'm in town!
