Very easy to order online. Great harvest bread Company has a variety of food not just bread. They have delicious giant cookies like chocolate chip oatmeal walnut or regular chocolate chip or ---------. They also have a variety of hot and cold sandwiches. They do several Panini versions of some great sounding sandwiches including a turkey Reuben and about 8 others. (I might try the Reuben sandwich next time I go.) It's definitely worth your consideration if you want a healthy sandwich or in some cases a healthier sandwich! They also have at least 10 different cold sandwiches. One called the Italian, another turkey & Ham or each protein on its own and yes a simple PB&J Their Michigan chicken salad sounded excellent and I would like to try that as well. However, my favorite sandwich of all outside s traditional Ruben is a vegetable sandwich theirs called the Veggie Delight and with great harvest bread it was really tasty. It consisted of Cream cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Cucumber, and some Banana Peppers for a little zing! cucumber your choice of cheese, (I chose Swiss), your choice of bread -I believe there are about 9 bread choices. I will need to check back in to be sure. It's a wholesome fresh baked bread which makes a delicious sandwich. I chose the Rye-bread for my veggie sandwich. It was very good and honestly I could've done without the Swiss cheese and it still would've been great. Next time I do think I will try the honey wheat bread as it might accompany the veggies a little better than the Rye bread did. They have beverages available as well as specialty coffees and coffee drinks. I had no idea they served breakfast but it appears they have about four different breakfast sandwich choices. Ok- get ready for all the goodies! There are four types of muffins, six kinds of cookies including a couple of my favorites raspberry filled shortbread and oatmeal chocolate chip walnut! I do love a fresh scone and they have three different options. They all sound delicious they also have something called a Trek Bar and I think it's some kind of a health bar maybe with extra protein or something. I do need to mention they have about six delicious sounding salads too! This place is a bread institution, and for good reason. My standards for bread are ridiculously high. They have unbelievable bread and baked goods, made on the premises. If I had my druthers, I would roll out a sleeping bag and set up shop to indulge my addiction. I've been coming here for over 20 years, partially for the hearty and generously sized warm , free samples. They often included myriad warm butters and jams. Their breads are dense and chewy. I highly recommend the the Asiago pesto, which is a perfect accompaniment to any Italian dish. On the sweeter side, the cinnamon crunch is my current obsession. The cookies are fab, as well. You can't go wrong with the oatmeal raisin, which are dense and chewy, with mildly crisp edges. On this particular day, we were lured by the sandwiches for a quarantine - picnic. I feel that this establishment is best for takeout, anyway. Their sandwiches are pricey, but abound with very high- quality ingredients, plied high. We chose the hot ham and the Californian. They use high quality ingredients, and all their bread and pastries are full of flavors, and made with care. I enjoy coming here to taste all different kinds of breads, they give you a good portion of bread for you to try. The chocolate scones are so good. I had sausage, cheese, eggs breakfast sandwich with avocado and tomato this morning. They are absolutely big and delicious. I couldn't finish it by myself. I used to go to Great Harvest Bread Co. a lot long time ago, but haven't been back in a while... then my sister while visiting the states got some loaf of breads from there and I had to return. My favorite is the Apple Pie Crunch! I love it so much, bought two loaf of it. Love having this in the morning... couple slices heated with coffee... most excellent! Unfortunately, they close early and since I don't get out of work until after 6pm, it's hard for me to stop by... so the only option is to stop by early in the morning :) I have so many other breads to try... I live right across the street, but never went in because I don't really eat bread, so the name kind of turned me away. They've recently had iced coffee signs in the window, and the nearby coffee shop I'd usually walk to closed, so I decided to give it a try. I asked if they happened to have gluten free bread, and they don't, but GF muffin selection is great! The woman working even gave me an extra free one to try more flavors. She was so sweet! Tasty sandwiches and bread, minimalist fast food seating. I've run into this chain a few times before ---mostly involving the whole wheat dinner rolls --- but this is the first location where I've tried the sandwiches. Both sandwiches worked, but now fade into memory --- the were tasty but not terribly memorable. The bread was fresh and springy, and the fillings well put together. The weak point of the visit was the seating, almost an afterthought here; a few flimsy tables and chairs. They're definitely geared towards selling breads and sandwiches to go. read more

Ann Arbor has a variety of places for freshly baked breads/sandwiches, but I would strongly recommend Great Harvest for its customer service. Last year while a friend's child was in the ICU, I called at 6:30am to see if I could order some breakfast sandwiches. Even though they weren't open, the manager was already in and picked up the phone. She was more than happy to make the sandwiches and some fresh coffee in time for me to pick up on my way towards the hospital. I started going here a few years ago and the breads were great. Customer service was always hit or miss. ...fast forward a couple years and wow what a turn to the worse. Customer service is absolutely terrible. IF you can get someone's attention to help you you'll almost wish you hadn't....every employee I've encountered for many months acts as if they are being inconvenienced by having to answer any questions. ..and it's not just me. ..any time I go in there I see other potential customers being treated like 2nd class citizens. Enough of that. ..moving on to the breads and such...they used to take pride in the quality of the items they put out and now with an established customer base they are more concerned with getting money and shutting off the lights as quickly as possible. Which brings me to my final point....I'm a route driver and I'm in their Plaza every day twice each day with the second being around their closing time, 6pm....if you want to get something last minute you can absolutely forget about that. ...unless there is someone in the store around 5:45pm they will lock the doors, shut the lights off and be walking to their cars by 5:55. Their is no pride left at this place and after seeing these terrible business practices get worse for the last several months I will no longer be giving them any of my hard earned money. read more

This place is amazing! Their breads are delicious, the soups are great and the sandwiches are awesome. They do lots of cute promotions too...I'm not ashamed to tell you that I have colored a picture of a groundhog so I could get a free piece of bread shaped like a groundhog on Groundhog's Day. (I have never, for the record, written the word groundhog so many times in a row). I tend to go in there and sample like 87 things and no one ever rolls their eyes or says anything. I love breads, especially soft rolls and thick hearty loaves of multi-grain, but both times I came in here I left without finding anything to buy (and in the 3-4 minutes that took nobody asked if I needed help). I live really close to this place and frequently walk there in early mornings to get a breakfast sandwhich. Sausage, egg, cheese and your choice of bread which they make in store! So good! I've also tried the grilled cheese, The Hot Chick, The Chicken Pesto and one sandwhich with delicious Bavarian Ham. They use high quality ingredients in all their food and it tastes homemade! The breads they bake in store are so yummy! The Apple Pie bread...amazing and they sell out quickly. They also have amazing cookies and muffins and jams. I stopped in here to get something nice for my mother for her dinner. She likes sweet breads but can't have nuts or seeds. I have never had a problem finding something here. The Apple Blosssom bread and the Pumpkin Chocolate Chip bread are excellent. At the front desk they have a list of all the breads they will be making for August and when they will be in the store. When I was little, my parents would treat us to Great Harvest on the occasional weekend. Unfortunately, that location closed (Chicago suburbs) but I never could get Great Harvest out of my head. Great Harvest re-entered my life when I went to college at UIUC, and words cannot express how happy I was to find out that Ann Arbor has its very own Great Harvest as well! The breads have changed since my youth, but they're still just as good as I remember. Nice and hearty - not like the bread you'll get at a grocery store bakery that's about 95% air. Great variety of sweet and savory flavors. The sandwiches are pretty good too. Not the best ever, but definitely something I would get again. And I like to think I'm not just biased by nostalgia. I threw together some breads and baked goods for a Christmas gift basket, and the recipient absolutely loved it. My biggest complaint is that it's too easy to spend a lot of money here. Most of the loaves really aren't that expensive, but when everything is so good, it adds up quickly. The jams and baking mixes definitely are on the pricy side. Oh, and the cookies weren't as good as I was expecting. I love a big, soft, chewy, fresh baked cookie, but these were much drier than I like. As others have also noted, their customer service is really hit or miss. We had a big miss. The man who took our orders told us my son could pick a bread to have with his soup. When he brought out the order with three soups and I asked about the bread he acted so bothered as if I was asking for a freebie. While he was slicing the bread my mother in law told him she would like the end piece of the bread that they typically throw away instead of the center piece. He ignored her and said "let's just do this," and gave her the piece she just said she doesn't want while throwing away the end piece she did want. We also experienced a first miss with their soup. Normally I love their soups and sandwiches but this time the potatoes in the soup seemed to be spoiled. They were squishy and slimy. I had to spit them out. I realized too late I shouldn't have let my son who is very little have his. He was complaining of a stomachache later. Their bread is pretty good and that I can recommend. read more

They always have incredibly friendly staff members working and just walking past the place just gives me a nostalgic feeling of siding in my moms kitchen as she baked fresh bread. This particular time in I was breaking my usual breakfast routine of bagels and decided to get a gourmet sandwich at this place. I decided to go with an egg, ham, cheddar, tomato, and avocado on wheat bread. It was very much worth the wait for them to hand make the sandwich as it was phenomenal! It was huge and overflowing with ingredients, in a good way. The cheese was gooey, the egg was perfectly cooked, and the avocado was fresh and tender. Walked in at 12:50 and ordered at 12:55pm. We were informed that "their lunch person was leaving so they weren't taking any more lunch orders". This is after we'd spent over five minutes in the store trying to figure out what we wanted! What kind of place doesn't serve lunch at 1:00pm on a Saturday?? If that's the kind of business they want to run then so be it but I won't be returning even during the 61 hours a week they are open. They're closed on Sunday's. But don't count on them serving you the food on their menu that you want when you go in. Make sure you call ahead to see if they want to serve you. read more

On one of my visits, one of the staff members was simply rude to me, and no one else. I thought I was just imagining things, until one of the other staff members started to talk and interact with me in an overly-nice way to make up for the rude behavior of her coworker. From trying to ignoring me even though I was the next person in line (until I and her coworker spoke up about it), to throwing my bread on the table when I asked for it to be cut, to ringing up my order and barely mumbling up a word to me while doing so...it was all very weird. The really nice staff member even chimed in to thank me for my business before I left - even though she wasn't ringing me up - because her coworker was saying nothing/being so rude. Dense, chewy, chocolately, with a soft gooey middle, and slight crisp edges. Extremely friendly and offer free bread for tasting when you walk in. It's not cheap but it's delicious. They have sandwiches made to order. It does take a long time but it's worth it. Best sandwiches are the goat cheese fig and prochuitto and the pesto, fresh mozzarella and pepperoni. Always very busy in side and only two tables for 2 to sit at. Best for take out. read more

Simple, tasty breads that are freshly baked and warm. I was invited here by a friend, having never been, and gotta say that the grilled/toasted sandwiches were extremely tasty on a cold windy day! It's not fancy, for sure, but solid sandwiches that are a real steal at $5-7. Oh, and do enjoy the free samples of bread, among them a four cheese loaf (more like pizza) and an apple pie loaf--which honestly was a pastry masquerading as bread. Best of all: the samples were warm! The seating is limited, so takeout is a great option. I come here to buy baked goods to give as presents and they never disappoint! I ALWAYS end up having to buy some baked goods for myself as well! I had their chicken salad sandwich at one point and it was good, but don't get caffeinated here. The coffee doesn't taste great.
