Super cute little cafe in Little Italy. It was very busy on a Monday morning. Had lots of tables. Service was good. I did a pick up for a scramble, potato's, and coffee. Uber eats. Let me pick specifically what I wanted in terms of type of coffee what I like and it size such as jam or butter, salsa etc. They provided everything except creamer, I think someone just forgot. Which was OK though because I was able to drink there black coffee and it was tasty and not too strong. The scramble and potatoes was a great portion and very tasty and seem like fresh ingredients. Highly recommend this place. Our server, I think her name was Sky, she was great. Very friendly and attentive. The food was amazing. The ambiance was perfect. We ate in the back yard area. I recently visited Sweet maple cafe in the Taylor street neighborhood for breakfast. It came highly recommended from my daughter who visits there often! The first thing you notice is the robust business they have! Always a good sign! The space was small but decorated nicely! There was a very pleasant woman ( nice way and smile about her ) that got us seated and we began. Unfortunately we had the very first seat next to the door ( very small room) which left us a bit cold. Also having people literally 2 feet from you facing you while you eat was a bit unnerving but ya gotta get over that for good food! Our server came to the table and immediately poured a cup of coffee ( I had the mug turned up so pouring a cup perfectly normal) unfortunately I wanted decaf because I stay away from caffeine. Long story! Unfortunate. She was a little on the rushed side and didn't seemed interested in us or what we wanted just stood there offering no interaction. Disappointing. We ordered cinnamon roll pancakes ( sounds great right?!) and an omelet with grits! There was nothing that stood out about the omelette and the grits were runny! I have heard such great things about Maple so I was a bit surprised. The pancakes while good were a bit too sugary but hey we did order cinnamon roll pancakes so hardly the fault of Maple just a personal taste issue. The hostess ( possibly owner) continued to be gracious and welcoming. Face of the place! The service was not great. The amount of people suggest that all is well at maple and maybe our experience was a one off! I hope so it's a cute place and close! Gonna go back and hope it knocks our socks off! I walked into the small cafe and I felt like I was back home in Louisiana in my MawMaw's kitchen. I just knew it was going to be good, it was outstanding. I was in the area and craving breakfast and Sweet Maple popped up as one of the best. I was greeted immediately upon walking in and sat by the window. I was advised of the specials by the hostess and told my waiter would be with me shortly. I've dined here twice, once solo and once with my wife and both times the service was excellent. Now the food... fresh, piping hot, flavorful, big portioned breakfast and brunch options. The bacon is crispy, the eggs are fluffy, the biscuits are scratch made, and the pancakes are delicious. Everything is delicious here and served to you with a big ol smile. I want to take my family here when we come in town. Very small with limited seating but so worth it. This is actually one of my favorite brunch spots in Chicago (and absolute favorite in the Little Italy neighborhood)! I have brought my mom here when she was visiting me, and I was able to visit here with a new barista friend for brunch! The food at Sweet Maple is delicious but not delicious enough to make up for the service. I've visited Sweet Maple Cafe twice now, and the service is always pretty bad. It almost feels discriminatory. The waiter and waitress both highlight the tip portion of the receipt for each visit. I feel that it's tacky and shows a lack of professionalism. I observed that other diners didn't have the tip portion of their receipt highlighted. We spoke to the manager, maybe she is the owner, and she didn't seem to care or show concern. My friend ordered an 18th street scramble with home fries and a biscuit. I ordered my usual, the Carmen G scramble with home fries and a biscuit, a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice and a short stack of the cinnamon roll pancake. The cinnamon roll pancake is a must get - it was so delicious and not overly sweet. Everything else was really good too, which is usually the case. Chickn Egg and Cheeser: The biscuit is really what makes this dish a winner. The eggs are great - but eating little bits of the biscuit with some of the butter they have on the side was a total added bonus. This restaurant really does breakfast food right - they put a lot of care into their food and it makes me find my happy place. 5/5 Fish N' Eggs (Catfish special): Ok despite the fact that I didn't love this dish - I am still going to give it 4/5 because I think I overestimated my own ability to tolerate catfish even when prepared well. The breading was great and the fish was fresh.... I just don't really like catfish! Only ordered because it was only available on Fridays so I felt like I owed it to myself to take this opportunity - since my being in downtown Chicago on a Friday morning it pretty unusual. Also - the potatoes and onion mix is SO SO TASTY that it alone deserves five stars. So I will award this dish as a whole an objective 4/5. It is remarkably easy to get food from this location now! Due to COVID it isn't a huge old line wrapped around with people waiting for a table in the tiny dining area. Instead, there was NOBODY in line when we ordered carryout at noon on a Friday and we walked across the street to eat it picnic style at a little park. This place is a hidden gem! I went with the fish n eggs special and it was AMAZING! The catfish nuggets were perfectly seasoned and had just the right amount of crunchy breading! It was perfection - the best catfish I've had in my life. The biscuits are also a must try...light and crumbly with just a hint of sweet. You can TASTE the love and homemade! Came in early morning on a weekend, plenty of empty tables. We were seated right away, but no one came to take our order for 10 minutes. There was an empty sugar packet in one of the waters. We notified the hostess who apologized and sent a server our way and someone replaced the water. The server was very flat and forgot multiple items that we ordered and just said "it's coming" but those food items never came and wasn't even on the receipt. Then we had to ask for a box multiple times. The music was so loud we couldn't even hear each other, which is bizarre for a breakfast restaurant. Maybe that's why our waitress made so many mistakes. The food we did receive was amazing as always. I used to live in this area and we drove almost a half hour because my family remembered how good it was. I don't think it's worth the trip in anymore that the service is so bad. read more

I got the chrorrisimo tacos with home fries upgraded to Monterrey style, coffee, and a chicken egg n cheese sandwich for later. The tacos were delicious, and the home fries were even better! It was a generous portion with heaps of toppings, too. I stole a bite of the egg n cheese sandwich, which was way too rich for my breakfast tastes, but really good. I never order biscuits, but I was emboldened by their great taste in jam. I made exactly the right choice: I slathered, then bit into that huge, soft, pillowy scratch-made wonder, and I wanted to get one to go so I could lie down on it and take a nap. It was so good. I visited Sweet Maple Cafe for a quick breakfast early Saturday morning. This was my first time dining here and I didn't realize that indoor seating was closed. They have a lovely patio, but it is very shady, so it was really cold. I ordered the Couple of Eggs breakfast. The star of the show was the biscuit! I would come back here just to order another biscuit. The bacon portions were generous and I didn't care for my eggs. They were overcooked and unpleasantly crunchy on the edge. I have always loved this restaurant, The French toast is by favorite. Sunday we stopped at Sweet Maple's for a quick breakfast before running some errands. We were both soooo disappointed. Everything on the plates were cold. The grits , eggs, French toast, etc. The only thing hot was my coffee. We didn't have the time nor energy to complain. It was not just us the table next to us complained too. I know it gets busy on a Sunday but cold eggs are not good. My fiancé and I had a rare weekday off so we decided to celebrate with brunch at Sweet Maple Cafe. This was our first time there (and definitely won't be the last!). For COVID precautions, dining is currently all outdoors with disposable bowls and utensils. We ordered our food at the window outside and since seats are first come first serve, we had to wait a bit before a table cleared up. This place is very popular, so the wait time was a bit long and uncomfortable, but the staff were quick to clear up and disinfect the tables between each customer, which was really nice! We ordered a French toast as well as the 18th street to share, and we were very impressed by both dishes! The French toast is made from challah, which adds a beautiful fluffiness and slight sweetness to the French toast. Their 18th street had the perfect amount of salt and umami, without feeling too heavy or overpowering. The spicy chorizo sausages added a nice kick and I appreciated that it also came with a free biscuit! Price-wise, it's hard to beat! Overall, we were really impressed by the food and will be coming back to try the rest of their menu! read more
