The Mexican coffee is delicious. I hate coffee, because it's bitter and has an aftertaste, but this coffee is so smooth and rich. No cream or sugar was added. I could drink it straight. Frida's sells bags of coffee, but this is their own recipe that you can't buy from their restaurant. Bummer! read more

I've been wanting to try Frida Room and had a weekday brunch. There was plenty of seating and the vibe was chill, so we chose a window seat that opened up to 18th Street. The decor had fun Frida-themed artwork, including skateboard decks. Service was polite and attentive, overall solid. Food-wise, the menu looked incredible and it was hard for my wife and I to just choose one dish. We landed on chilaquiles and a chivito sandwich, the menu itself would bring us back. The presentation of the food was really nice, but we found the taste/quality to be uneven. The sauces that were brought out in little plastic cups were tasty, as well as the chilaquiles. However, the sandwich seemed a little bland. How is that possible with steak, ham, bacon, egg, and Chipotle mayo? Not sure. Also the portions seemed a little dainty for the price. I think if the food was tastier, the price wouldn't sting so much. There's a balance between quality, cost, and quantity, and it's the cost that was a bit high. They have umbrellas and even though the sun was on my back it wasn't too hot out, yet. The cafe de olla is a must and the cup they serve it in is cute although the handle is a bit awkward. My food was so good, I finished it all! I could've had something else but it was enough for one person. The salsas they had on the table were all different spice levels but the green one was my favorite. The only thing I'd say was meh was the checkout process. We just landed from a 28 hour flight from Asia and this was the first place we wanted to try being back home. It did not disappoint! When I say I was so happy to be back, it was because of places like the Frida Room. The space was a bit tight but I was focused on the bigger picture: the delicious food (and wonderful service). Both dishes we got were top tier! Not only that... the cafe de olla was probably the coffee I've had in Chicago in a long time. Definitely the best Cafe De Olla. A wonderful, beautiful restaurant with staff that goes above and beyond for the guests. All of the staff exudes kindness and compassion. They let us enter with a stroller and were helpful and willing to make accommodations to change tables in order to comfortably accommodate the stroller. Stopped in for an early weekend breakfast in Pilsen. Fun decor (yes, you'll see Frida) and music. Friendly waitstaff. Carafe of cold cucumber infused water on the table was a nice touch to start. I got the Molletes, as I've never tried this dish before. It's described on the menu as an authentic dish from Mexico City - toast with refried beans, mozzarella, pico de gallo, queso fresco, and topped with sunny side up eggs (+$2). The dish is served with crispy and seasoned potatoes. I asked if it'd be possible to substitute fruit instead of the potatoes (would be ok with an upcharge) but was told no substitutions for this dish. This was pretty good at first! I liked the beans and the bright pico, and the drippy eggs. Definitely felt more "homestyle" than like a fancier breakfast. After a little bit though, it didn't taste as good cooled down (and the bread - a standard white bread - got soggy). The potatoes were good but overall the meal was very hearty and filling so I didn't finish them. Looks like they always put out their homemade red and green sauces on each table. They're made with Serrano peppers and tomatillo and are delicious! I especially liked the green sauce on the potatoes. The Azteca coffee is just as fun and good as it sounds. Wow!!! I have been wanting a really good Mexican breakfast for quite sometimes now we actually park down the street. We're heading to one restaurant. "At Frida's Room on July 14,2025 at around 11ish a table for 2 people was requested. Despite observing a table by the window empty ,the hostess stated they were in the bathroom without confirming they were in bathroom. This was frustrating, particularly as we then see someone clean it to get it ready for availability. The dining area is small and cozy, decorated with some lucha libre stuff, but more importantly, some Frida Kahlo Art.
