I made a reservation for a Sunday afternoon tea time and was seated right away on arrival. The first type of tea arrived within minutes and not long after was brought the trays of snackages. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the fact that most everyone was appropriately dressed for a tea time experience. The big highlights for me were desserts and scone. The scones were warm and not at all dry. My only critique was that the chicken salad sandwich had far too much bread, could barely taste any of the filling. Desserts for the day were a Salted caramel bon bon, Strawberry frosted Donut macaron, and Lemon cheesecake petit four. Everything tasted excellent (except the lacking chicken salad sandwich) and was well prepared. I thought the experience was well worth the money, definitely recommend. We came to celebrate my birthday, so they lit a candle for us which was cute and appreciated! The menu is posted online in advance, so you know what you're getting. I enjoy eating many different things in small bite-sized portions and I thought all of the food tasted good. The portion is a full meal, albeit it's mostly carbs and sugar. That would be my one critique--it's a bit too sweet and there weren't enough savories. Price-wise, it was $50 per person. I really like that the price is inclusive of taxes, service, and tips. The photos show food at $100 for two people. It was filling, but a very sugary filling. The decor is cute, but some details could have been better. For example, the tea cake tower is black and modern-looking and honestly, not cute or matching. Some light piano music softly playing in the background would have been nice. The customer service is fine. We did street parking and while we came at a rather odd time, we still got a bit of traffic due to construction. I went here for my best friends bridal shower. It was my first time doing afternoon tea and it was such a great experience! I don't think the experience is worth $40/$50 a person, maybe $24/$30. The snacks are very small and each table gets the same amount of food. So our table of 4 got the same amount to split as the table of 2 next to us. It starts off with the first round of tea. They have little sugar cubes and cream on the table too. Our teapot kept spilling everywhere though. The way it was designed, the tea kept dripping down the side and got tea all on the table. It was good tea however! Then the snacks came out on 3 tiered pedestal. You're supposed to work your way up starting on the bottom with the mini sandwiches which included cucumber dill, strawberry cream, chicken salad, and pink peppercorn salami. I'm not a fan of cucumbers and dill but everything else was super yummy, I was pleasantly surprised! The next tier are scones which included cranberry orange and cheddar chive. They also have sweet cream and strawberry jam to pair with the scones if you'd like. Both were delicious again! Then the last tier is dessert and is supposed to be paired with the last tea. There were macarons, petit fours, and bonbons. All really yummy and pleasantly surprised again. My table had 2 people that were vegetarian and gluten free. You are supposed to specify when you reserve a spot of any dietary accommodations. The woman who made our reservation did not know this and asked while we were there. There wasn't a lot they could do on such short notice but they tried to accommodate and made some veggie and gluten free options. It wasn't necessary but very much appreciated! With only 4 varieties (English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Chai, Decaf English Breakfast) I was quite disappointed. You expect tea to be their specialty. I've been to all tea places back home in my area so I'm a tea frequenter & very familiar with how services go. First my friends & I wanted to try this spot particularly for the cute gorgeous cottage location we saw on their website. Unfortunately by the time of our appointment, we were very disappointed to find Sweet Marie's was no longer in a cottage! Instead it's now set in a posh space with bopping loud music. Very jarring & not an afternoon tea ambience. I have to say tea services in the area run different from metro areas. There's only 1 set tea service you get. Given that, I've NEVER experienced a tea place where they charge extra....to select most teas!! It's afternoon TEA, & you nickel & dime people on the star of the show? Also nickel/dimed on the condiments which you can see are so small proportions. Also the tea: one of the most flavorless teas ever drank for the small selection of "complementary" (ridiculous) teas which is standard English Black. I got decaffeinated & that was even more tasteless. So then to have to pay extra for other tea types?? I wasn't impressed. The food: while aesthetics are nice, having 2 of the 4 "tea sandwiches" be tiny small round bites basically, left more to be desired. The food was decent except the chicken salad sandwich where the chicken was over-dry & thus rubbery. And overall the sandwich lacked flavors/seasonings. For a place not in a major city area, the price point was high especially for the overall food quality which was ok & decent at best, and the portions were small. Would expect higher quality at that price especially with all the add-ons they charge you for. This place is trying way too hard to be hip. I asked for a butter knife & was told there are none?? Again never experienced this before lol Instead I was told they only have these long awkward wooden spatulas that are awfully annoying to use & dropped down several times due to their shape, very non-functional. I didn't realize Sweet Marie's had moved to a different location since my last visit, which was probably two years ago. Personally, I preferred the cottage ambiance--it captured the essence of afternoon tea beautifully. However, the new location is still lovely, offering a more elegant yet modern vibe. Having afternoon tea there was a nice experience, but if you've had a traditional British afternoon tea before, the food choices and pricing here might not seem worth it. Interestingly, all three of my friends felt the same way; they found the food lacking in flavor and the portions too small for the price. While it's nice to try occasionally, I'm not sure I would return anytime soon. Also, the staff seemed a bit rushed while serving us, frequently checking in despite the fact that we were the only table there around 1:30 PM, even though we had a reservation for noon. We visited on a gray and rainy day and it made the experience inside the cottage even cozier. This is a traditional high tea and it's a perfect place to visit for special occasions or just to sit and catch up with a friend. We loved the stone walls, the open beams and mismatched china - it all added to the ambiance. The food was delicious - each variety of sandwich offered was tasty as well as the sweet and savory delicious scones. The sweet treats on top of the tower were a complete surprise - full of flavor and delicately balanced. We had a great time and I hope to return soon. One things to be aware of the tea cottage sits directly behind a building that is located on a main street. There is an inconspicuous gravel 'driveway' you have to turn on to in order to locate the cottage, we missed it the first time because our GPS made it look like we should be turning down a road when we should have been looking for a narrow driveway. read more

Lindsay provided amazing service in an extremely relaxing and just comfortable atmosphere and there was a nice breeze since I sat next to the window. I was so full after everything and I didn't even finish everything on the plates. I can't wait to go back and take my kids because they love having the whole high tea experience. I can't stress just how amazing the whole experience was from beginning to end parking can get a little finicky and I can see it getting worse in the summer so make sure you plan ahead and leave enough time to find a good parking spot. It was all our first time and we finally got to go on my bachelorette trip! It was the perfect activity to do with girlfriends and we all really enjoyed it. Yesterday, we took our respite at Sweet Marie's Tea Cottage in Wickford Village (part of North Kingstown, Rhode Island) as part of a 2-day birthday celebration. This shabby-chic cottage, tucked away behind a hedgerow on a rustic side road, was a delight. Named after the proprietor's grandmother, seatings are by reservation only. Of the 4 tables during our seating, 3 were celebrating birthdays, including me! Everything was delicious and we even had a lovely conversation with the ladies at the table next to us about knitting and my clothes. It was a full on grannycore experience. You could upgrade to different teas or stick with either English breakfast, war grey, or masala chai or mix and match! I absolutely have nothing but great things to say about Sweet Marie's Tea Cottage! Reservations are made on the website through their portal. You will receive an email and text confirmation for availability. It can be a little tough to find. It's tucked away behind a building. There are four spots; otherwise, you park on the main road. There is a sign next to the front door (attached) that makes the entrance easy to find! The inside is absolutely beautiful. I love the antiques around the room and the beautiful décor. The music isn't too loud and you can hear your guest. We were guided to our table and asked which tea we would like. I love that the tea is bottomless! There are also a few cocktails, with great prices! We tried the Tea Thyme Bellini and the Sparking Hibiscus. Sparkling Hibiscus is the favorite and I will definitely be getting that one again! It was so refreshing and not too sweet. For the tower, I loved the arrangements. At the bottom was the mini sandwiches, with a mix of sweet and savory. The second layer was the scones. They are a little on the dryer side so I dipped them into my tea. For the top layer, was a a mini lemon cupcake, chocolate covered cookie dough and a cookies and cream macaron. The macaron was my favorite., By the end, I was so fill. You have two hours with each reservation and I believe we were there for almost the entire time. However, there was a lack of options for afternoon tea in Rhode Island until recently. Enter Sweet Marie's Tea Cottage. This charming little nook in Wickford is even more cozy than I had imagined. It's like the space was meant to be a tea cottage. The decor is fun and whimsical with hand-stenciled floors, mismatched china and chairs (with a handful of leopard print chairs!), and family photos of the owner's grandmother Marie, the namesake of this sweet cottage, displayed on the walls. The menu is simple but perfect, with a selection of classic and slightly modern/creative finger sandwiches, sweet and savory scones, and a finale of bite-size desserts to wash it all down. In addition to a couple basic tea choices, you can upgrade to a pot of specialty tea, and also make it a boozy tea by adding on a glass of wine or a cocktail. If you have great weather during your visit, it's like a bonus! Go for a walk through the neighborhood afterwards to digest. I can't say enough, and will definitely be back. We made a reservation for tea here a couple of weeks ago for yesterday. It's fairly easy to find (behind the quilt and kitchen store on the main road), and there's parking available right next to it (although limited, we found a spot). The inside is a bit rustic, with some decorations around the room, and the tables were all set with tablecloths, napkins, small plates and teacups with saucers. There was also a small printed menu on the table that outlined what would be served, along with the teas, other beverages available, and the schedule for our time there. They brought us out a pot of English breakfast (without asking what tea we may want), and placed it on the table warmer/candle teapot holder. We sipped our tea for a few minutes, and the tiered tray of food arrived a free minutes later, and they walked us through the items by layer. The savory items started on the bottom, with tea sandwiches (cucumber, chicken salad, prosciutto and fig, and strawberry brioche). The next level had scones - cranberry orange, and cheddar chive, these were ok at best, and didn't have the typical scone texture. The top level had small sweets - macaron, cupcake and truffle. The texture/flavor/lightness of the macaron were all what they should be, and tasty. A few things that I struggled with during this tea, also speaking from having experienced multiple tea services from London, to Denver, to San Francisco, and a couple of smaller places one on the Cape and one on the south shore, the service, the food and tea selection and the price. I don't feel that anyone on the service side was very excited to be there. We wanted a refill on our tea, and it took a bit to flag someone down. The food was good, not spectacular. The portions were ok, flavors ok, and again, overall just ok. My advice? Pick somewhere else to go. read more

I've been looking for a place for the three of us to go for high tea but most places don't allow kids under 12. I was thrilled when I saw that Sweet Marie's allows all ages. An enjoyable, fun outing for a traditional high tea experience. Located right in Wickford Village, it's easily paired with a nice afternoon walking around the historic down, checking out some antique and other local shops and perhaps also enjoying a seafood dinner at one of the great local restaurants. The cottage is super cute and quaint and furnished in a variety of tea paraphernalia (okay that sounds weird, but teapots and teacups is what I mean). It was necessary to email to make a reservation, which was a bit odd (instead of being able to book online) and my first preferred date was unavailable, so it took a bit of calendar coordination to schedule our tea. The tea, as in the actual beverage, was delicious and it was fun to drink from elaborate cups in the cozy little cottage. The accompaniments to the tea were traditional like scones, small crustless sandwiches and desserts including macaroons, but there was only one truffle that I thought was truly outstanding. Everything else was just okay. Note that there is just one menu option so if you're vegan or vegetarian, there's going to be some stuff you're just not going to want to eat- chicken sandwiches in my case. No substitutions. I imagine this is because everything is pre-prepared and plated. The place was filled with others (almost exclusively groups of women) enjoying small teas but the tables were well distanced and the music was relaxing and chill. We did not feel uncomfortable or crowded at all, which I was concerned about given the COVID situation. Service was decent although a couple times we had to wait a bit for more tea. Overall, this is really one of those places where you're paying for a cute, unique experience and the food is just sort of average. I also thought it was a bit overpriced for what it is- tea, scones, sandwiches and desserts, but if you factor in the overall experience and uniqueness you might conclude it's worth it. It was about $33 per person for our table with tax and tip, which was just for their basic tea service. Perhaps the weirdest thing about the place is that there is only an exterior bathroom (as in you have to go outside in the cold to use the bathroom). The one thing I did not like as much was how close you sat next to other guests. Maybe it is less busy on a weekday. Nevertheless we totally enjoyed the experience. Tables were assigned with white tablecloths and mismatched China. The ceiling beams and exposed stone wall made it very cozy. The server greeted us immediately and was helpful in finding a spot to put my stroller. However, service was lacking otherwise. The food menu is fixed with no substitutions, but there were different tea and alcoholic beverage options. The server brought out Earl Gray tea before asking us what we wanted, which was odd. We tree refused the Earl Gray and asked for decaf instead. We had decaf English breakfast tea and hot chocolate. The tea was delicious. The hot chocolate tasted like Swiss Miss. It's a bottomless tea but we were never offered refills. The food was good but unremarkable. For each person there were three finger sandwiches, two scones, and three sweets. The cupcake and cranberry scones were our favorites. We had a good time but I think we would try somewhere else before going back. It was very pricey for what you got ($133 for the people when you added in tip). Also, you have to go outside and around to get to the bathroom, which is very inconvenient. Sweet Marie's was a quaint and cozy tea experience that I was very grateful to share with my wife, sister and mother. The bottomless tea was a real treat and the tea sandwiches, scones and desserts were delicious. I especially loved the truffle which was cookie-licious. The atmosphere really steals the show here and the staff were really kind and friendly. The service was good overall but it would be nice if the staff checked on the tea pots more proactively as we did have to ask for refills for each of the tea pots. It seems like this business is a bit newer and overall we really enjoyed the experience. If you're looking for a unique and cool tea experience I'd definitely recommend taking a trip here.
