I love this place so much. I get the savory croissants for breakfast as often as I can and today I finally tried a quiche. I tried the bacon, butternut squash, and herbs quiche and it was so good I'm about to order another slice. The prices are really fair for the quality of product and I haven't had anything here that I didn't like. The macarons are expertly crafted and some of the best I've ever had. I read the other review on here that just raved about Sweet Mary's Bakery and everything she did for them. So I thought I would give her a try since she was local to me and I didn't need anything extravagant. The cake I was requesting was a 'gender cake'. Now a gender cake is where when you are pregnant when you have your ultrasound done to determine the baby's gender instead of having the ultrasound technician tell you, they write it on a piece of paper and seal it in an envelope. You then take said cake to the bakery of your choice and have them make you a cake that is dyed either pink or blue on the inside according to what the paper says. So this is what we did, I dropped the envelope off the Mary on Thursday and planned to pick it up on Saturday afternoon. Now our revealing party was a small family get together so I ordered a 1/4 vanilla sheet cake with chocolate butter-cream icing. I paid Mary $30 for this cake, which struck me as a lot but I expected to pay a little more to get a cake made from a private baker whom I assume had much more skill and training than someone at WalMart. So Saturday rolls around and I go pick up the cake. The outside is decorated with small squares that spell out "It's A ..." and there is a small basket weave baby carriage on the front. It looked like something I could have picked up off of any grocery store shelf and had them write "It's a..." on it. No flowers or anything. She certainly didn't go out of her way to decorate the cake. Then dinner comes and it is time to cut the cake. We cut it (it was pink BTW) and dish out a piece to eat of my family members. Well The cake was horrible no one could even eat it! It was bone dry, the icing was awful. It tasted like she had made the cake a year ago and froze it and took it out of the freezer and slapped some icing on it. I could have made a better cake out of a box, or certainly gotten a better looking and tasting one for half the price at WalMart! So I can not in good conscience recommend Sweet Mary's Bakery to anyone looking for a cake. I hope this review saves someone some money because now I'm out $30 for a cake that I had to throw away because no one could even eat it. read more

I live in the Chicago area, but was heading to Canton for my birthday to see the NFL Hall of Fame. As a surprise, my wife decided to get me a custom birthday cake. What an awesome surprise!! It was the coolest cake I had ever received. It was a carrot cake in the shape of the Chicago Bears mascot, Staley! The cake itself had walnuts and raisins with cream cheese frosting like I like, but fondant was used to do the decorating. So cool! It was even more impressive due to the fact that my wife gave very short notice to have the cake done and also had the cake delivered to our hotel in Canton. Their (former) website said they had vegan offerings so I asked if they did vegan cakes. I was scoffed at and given a very short answer. Fine, I'll get vegan cupcakes from someone else. The cake I ended up ordering was not decorated as I requested (despite the pictures I emailed and a verbal agreement that it could be duplicated), and the cake itself was dense but moist. The flavor was okay. Nothing special. I also picked up some macarons while I was there. They were good but slightly overpriced in my opinion. This is the type of eatery I want to go to all of the time. They have a nice (not so) little selection of savory and sweet items that are really nicely made, with good ingredients and you get a nice variety as they mix things up a decent amount from what I can tell. The place is clean and looks nice and vibrant, just well designed in general. When I want to so somewhere to work for an hour or so, get some lovely quiche, a cardamon coffee cake, dark coffee and listen to classy music, this place is perfect. I have been on the hunt for the BEST cut out sugar cookies for some time now. I had high hopes due to the rave reviews that Sweet Mary's gets on Facebook, I finally made it out there this past weekend and ordered a box of cutouts, the price wasn't listed anywhere. However once I got to the cash register and paid I realized the cookies come out to $2 a piece. I thought that was a bit high compared to other bakeries, but I was ok with it because these cookies came with stellar reviews. When I got home my husband and I were a bit let down. The icing to cookie ratio was low, the cookies tasted stale, some were VERY small. They are decorated nicely, so I'll give them that and everyone in the bakery was very friendly and attentive. I have seen photos of the cakes they make, they look delicious, I might be willing to call and order a cake to be specially made, but I don't know if I'll be back to buy something out of the case again. read more

This place is a hidden gem! I tried their macaroons- chocolate hazelnut, earl grey, and caramel- and their apple nut bar. Sorry, I know that's not quite their names for them, but I forgot! Their flavors are spot on. One of the macaroons were a little more chewy than it was supposed to be but I forgive them because the flavors were so nice! They didn't have cupcakes when I went, but I will def return just to try them! Customer service was very good, and the staff was very friendly and willing to help. Shelley S. 9/16/2017. Was able to pre taste prior to purchasing a numbered cake for my father's 95th birthday. One number was banana and the other number was lemon both with cream cheese frosting. Curious as to why Mary had inquired about my father's interest. When the cake was served she had decorated with a symbol of an anchor as he is a WW11 veteran and also had put the symbol for the masons as he is 33rd degree mason. The cake was a 'Hugh" success!!!!. We recently visited family in Akron, and were the recipient of a delicious tray of custom made cut-out cookies. They were soft, melt-in-your-mouth-moist, and simply delicious. She not only decorated them in the most creative way, but she delivered them to our door. I've had other treats baked by Mary in the past, and have always been thrilled. I'm shocked to see a poor review on this site, as I know that Mary personally taste-tests all of her products before handing them over to the customer. Perhaps the fact that she uses all organic and fresh ingredients, nothing "processed", makes for a dessert that is beyond the ordinary item you'd find at a mass-production box-store "bakery".
