The couple we were with enjoyed their food as well, one had the special grilled cheese of the day, and the other a Hawaiian chicken type entrée. Poor engineering by the builder. All the hard surfaces ( glass, metal ceilings, walls make for a very loud Environment, everyone has to shout over everyone. Makes conversation unpleasant. Parking is very poorly planned, lack of handicap spaces is annoying. Placement of pick up " to go" orders in the lot is very poor. Our table was sticky , they washed it off for us prior to serving. The floors, chairs and menus were clean. Tolerable : The waitress did ok, not great, had to get my own water once, Food was good , same as a dozen other places in this price range. Stopped at this spot (Sweet Peas) on one of our trips back from IL to IA. Had never been to the area before however driven by it hundreds of times. Decided to jump off interstate 80 and try something new. Cute and clean with welcoming staff. Service was very quick but food was well prepared. We got the Smokin'n Burger (brisket and bacon on the burger), the Jalapeño Popper Chicken sandwich (pretzel battered). The chicken sandwich was huge, crispy and juicy. Burger also juicy and delicious. One of my kiddos got the PB&J and it was also a decent sized portion, especially for a child and she enjoyed it. Got the fried pickles which were perfectly fried and salty. All together a great experience and always feels good when you're able to try something new and be rewarded with it actually being worthwhile. We will definitely be coming back as we live in Des Moines but travel this route to see family regularly and often are looking for a good place for a pit stop. read more

My mother in law got the same sandwich. The father in law ordered the pork tenderloin..... ummm it wasn't good.... It was about 1/2 thick including the breading. Clearly a low quality frozen product.... My father in law said it was dry.... He ate very little of it.... You would think the waitress would have noticed and inquired about the meal.... I came here for a quick dinner on the way home and had my pup with me. When I entered I asked the hostess if he could sit outside and she and another employee said sure I don't see why not. I then asked if they had a gate to bring him in and she said no he can come straight through to the patio though. Ok no prob. I brought him to the patio quickly and with no disturbance. I sit at my patio table and very quickly I was not greeted by a worker who instead demanded "Is thst service dog?" in a very accusatory tone. Taken aback I replied, "No is there a problem, I was told he could be here" She then told me no he has to be OFF the patio in the brush, I look over and there is a gate and it's a unkept weedy exit area. I was upset and how rude this woman was treating me like I was smuggling in a fake service animal, I asked if there was a reason and she spat it was the owner's policy. Fine. I ended up taking him back to the car since the brush was very pokey. 1. Get all your employees educated on policies as important as that. 2. Put a Service Animal Only sign on the door. I had no idea and was treated as if I did something to harm the place. 3. Fix that lady's attitude. She really put a horrible taste in my mouth before I even could look at the menu and I'm only one person but I won't be back bc of her specifically and I want her to know that. read more

The menu is full of appealing items; I want to try their famous chicken strips! The first time we visited, my flat iron steak was absolutely perfect. On my second visit, I decided to try another designated favorite and ordered the Cuban sandwich, which was much less impressive. Sweet Pea's fries are really good, and the fried bread that came with my mom's meal is delicious. My boyfriend and dad liked the bbq a lot. My friend had a BLT which was heaped with applewood bacon and waffle fries, both of which got a thumbs up from him. I ordered a pork tenderloin sandwich which is my go-to whenever I see it on a menu since it's a rarity in my hometown of Chicago. This one did not disappoint so I definitely made the right choice. It was a tough choice though because they have a lot of tempting dishes on the menu. Even though I love waffle fries I decided to go with a lighter side and chose coke slaw. It was the best part of the meal. It was very creamy and a bit on the sweet side but it was perfect to me. The service was friendly and the prices very reasonable. Glad I found this place. Was staying at the best western next door and walked over for supper. Josh, the bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu plus great to talk too. I ordered the jalapeño popper chicken sandwich with fries. The sandwich was amazing and I ate the whole thing cause I could not stop. Was talking to the bartender josh and stated that I was stuck on the road for my birthday. At the end of the meal, he brought me a cheese cake on the house to take back to my hotel.
