Look for the World's Largest Spur to find the Restaurant!!!!!!

During a DayTrip to Lampassas, TX we were looking for something other than Burgers for lunch. We saw Sweet Pickle Deli on Yelp and we were glad we did. Road construction hid the restaurant but we were able to find it using the World's Largest Spur Landmark. We both had the pimento sandwiches and the soup of the day. Both were excellent.

Quaint little sandwich place. If you're looking for lighter or healthier food I would suggest. Quite little sit down spot, open kitchen, simple but delicious offerings. We had chicken salad sandwiches and potato salad, can get chips if you want. Drink included. Came with watermelon slice that was perfect and the pickles that came with sandwich really put it over the top. Nice sweet pickles slices. Glad I stopped, you should too. Like I said I would consider this a small mom and pop sandwich place. I'll be back on my next road trip!

Amazing food. Got the grilled cheese burger with jalapeño bun. It was incredible. the potato salad is to die for it has great taste and large bacon bits. Simple food done right.

Cute little deli with a limited menu but feels like grandma just made you potato salad and a sandwich.

Forgot to take a pic before I started enjoying my chicken salad sandwich and chips.

But I was stupid, and hungry, and ordered what looked like the specialty of the house at Eve's Café. In fact, it looked like what they called a Wienerschnitzel was the basis for all sorts of schnitzel variations with different toppings and gravy. That should've been an extra warning for me. To be fair, the description on the menu said that what you would get was a pork chop, and that is what I got. It was a little bit tough, which I suspected in advance, watching the people at the next table, sewing on theirs. The breading was weird in a way that's hard to describe. It was somewhat over-seasoned, a little bit hard, and left an aftertaste that was slightly chemical. An even worse sin by Texas standards, it was small, as in the recommended meat portion size for healthy eating, about the size of my hand, minus the fingers. My side of onion rings had the same breading. And even though I am generally a gravy hog, I didn't especially care for the brown gravy that came with my meal. The German dill salad probably had some dill in it somewhere, but it was all drowned in so much mayonnaise-based dressing, I couldn't really taste it, and the whole thing turned into soup before I finished. This all really sounds terrible, but it wasn't actually terrible. I ate all of it except for the soupy salad, but it just never rose beyond competent, when I had gotten my hopes up for some good German food. As I looked around at what others were eating, I really wished I had ordered one of the fabulous-looking sandwiches, burgers, or bratwurst. Those are harder to mess up. The restaurant itself has a nice location on the Square in Lampasas, and a charming vibe. The Thursday lunch crowd was good sized so it looks like a popular local place. The service was very friendly and pretty quick--maybe little TOO quick, as if my schnitzel might've been waiting for me under a heat lamp. Once I'd finished, I was still a little hungry, and considered ordering a slice of their Black Forest Cake. But I have had Black Forest Cake in Bavaria, and I simply couldn't bear another disappointment.

So this place was recommended, so I had to go. The restaurant is a small establishment, with…read morewonderful vibes. The inside was old fashioned, kind of a western twist. Any ways the waiters was friendly and welcoming. She took our oder quickly and brought us libations. The food looked good and tasted outstanding! The meat was soft and the brown gravy was on point. Furthermore the restrooms are super clean and roomy. Looks like there is only one cook, it might take a minute for your order but worth waiting for. Stay hungry my friends!

The owner came right up to the window, talked us through what they had and told us about the day's special. Just good old-fashioned hospitality. We had the pulled pork and brisket sandwiches, and both were delicious. And whoever decided to toast those buns knew what they were doing - that little extra touch made a good sandwich even better. The place is simple, no-frills and gets right down to business: good BBQ, friendly folks and quick service. Exactly the kind of hometown spot you hope to stumble across in a Texas town. You'd have to try real hard to put up a more un-appealing storefront and ordering station than those at Young's BBQ. Crude set-up, lackluster atmosphere with sloppy hand scribbled notes taped or thumbtacked to most of the walls, cheap paper plates, all plastic eating utensils -- just a sad way to see a restaurant being run. A smart investor would build a clean, pleasant, well-run barbecue restaurant in Lampasas... right next door. I had the pork ribs, cold and disappointing. The pinto beans were tasty but room temperature. "Would you like something to drink? Get it yourself!" And half of the drink selections were out of order with handwritten notes stuck to the dispensers. Our order was 2 pork ribs for me and tea to drink; a chopped sandwich and tea for my lunchtime companion... nearly $35 Never, ever again. By the way, the kitchen lady came out wearing a gray tee-shirt with a word across the front -- It said, "BULLS***!" I had to wholeheartedly agree. But that's about all they got right.
