The owner of this store is so sweet and nice! They have cake slices available if you're trying to limit your cake intake, but the selection is variable and limited to what they have for the day. However, they have a good amount of ready-made cakes too. They also have a selection of other baked goods, like cookies and macarons, which looked amazing. We got an Earl Grey cakelette with blueberry lemon icing. I thought the Earl Grey and lemon flavors were quite subtle, however, but the cake itself was delicious. They aren't too sweet and you can tell that the ingredients are really high quality, particularly the vanilla. I hate the weird, oily aftertaste you get with storebought buttercream icing, so I was pleasantly surprised by this icing, which is all flavor and no aftertaste. For me though--and I fully acknowledge that I am a weirdo--I don't really like icing and it was super thick here, because it was a three-layer cake. Which is great if you love icing (as most people do), but I wanted a bit more cake. Not sickly sweet but the perfect amount of sweet. They also prepare little cakettes that are perfect for sharing without a crazy amount of leftovers. This time around I ordered a single slice of their Nanaimo Bar Cake (I've been dying to try this ever since it was listed in Avenue's Top 25 Things to Eat in Calgary) and their small assorted treat box. Let's talk about it... RATING: 9.5/10 - Nanaimo Bar Cake It's brilliant that Sweet Relief does cake by the slice. Sometimes you just can't justify a full cake by yourself (imagine that?). Take two sweet treats, like layered cake and a Nanaimo bar, that are superb on their own and mix them together--a mash-up made in heaven. I never doubted the logic here but it was even more scrumptious than I imagined. My favourite part is the middle layer--the crusty coconut layer, just like the bottom of a Nanaimo bar (the icing on the cake--sorry, bad pun). It's heavy, it's rich, and oh so good! Did I eat this all in one sitting? Hell yeah....I couldn't resist and these are healthy portions. I'd been dreaming about it for days. RATING: 8/10 - Snack Pack I also ordered their small variety snack pack of baked goods. I've only experienced their cakes so I was pumped to try some of their other goodies. While everything was tasty, the rich, moist brownie stood out. I love chocolate. This treasure trove also includes a macaron (tasty blue morsel), sugar cookie (a melt-in-your-mouth bunny). I'm happily anticipating the salted caramel candy bar, sandwich cookie and chocolate covered oreo. Every single treat was crafted and packaged with care. I'm super impressed with the value and quality of everything I bought. The Oreo cookie cupcake was pretty good but the vanilla sprinkles cupcake was less than good. I've made better tasting ones at home. I'm hoping to go again before we leave to try other flavors. I had been wanting to try the Nanaimo Bar since I saw it in Avenue Magazine as something you gotta try in Calgary and was very disappointed. I wanted to just get the slice for Valentines day as I really did not want to pay $65 for a cake (never in my life...). But, they did not have slices so thought I would treat my family to the cake and all of us could not even finish our slice. I have a huge sweet tooth and generally the sweeter the better for me, but this was so sweet it made my stomach hurt. I have never left a piece of cake unfinished until last night. Just wanted to write a review on this great new bakery in Calgary! We had seen a news article and wanted to give them a try and thought my mom's birthday would be a great chance. We ordered on-line, and while there was a very slight hiccup with the ordering system Deidre went above and beyond to make sure that we had our cake and it looked and tasted amazing. Everyone at the party wanted to know where we picked it up from and said they would be visiting the shop as well. This bakery's location is really close to my work, and it caught my eye shortly before my daughter's 2nd birthday. I wouldn't have thought to order her cake, but being pregnant and lazy, it occurred to me that picking up a finished cake the day of her party would be well worth the money. Deidre was quick to respond to my email, and was even able to accommodate my request for a gluten free cake. She was easy going about design ideas, and didn't charge me any extra to do a design that wasn't a standard from her website. The cake (chocolate with peanut butter icing for the filling) was so yummy, served our big group with leftovers to spare, and everyone kept asking me if I should be eating it because they couldn't believe it was gluten free. I met Deidre At the Bridal Fantasy show and hired her to bake my wedding cake in August 2015. Despite Sweet Relief being a newer business in the industry, I was impressed with her experience (apprenticed through the Banff Springs hotel) and the flavour of her samples. I met with, and ordered samples, from 3 companies in Calgary on the same day. I brought all the samples home to my family and tasted them all. Unanimously, my finance and our kids all chose Deidre's cakes. The best part, was that her quote was also at the best price! My husband selected a rich chocolate cake with chocolate mousse, and I supplied a picture of what I wanted it to look like... The end product? The cake looked fantastic, meringue mushroom decorated, and tasted even better! I had several relatives confess that they are double helpings and how pleased they were with a wedding cake that was also incredibly delicious. I ordered enough thinking I would save the top tier, but alas... There was none left! A great success. Deidre was professional, prompt, and all was delivered to perfection on time. So I have been going to this bakery for months! I even tried to convince the company I work for to use them for all food needs..they said that would be too much sugar aha. But they have great flavours and great service. I use their cupcakes to bribe my family into things. But today I called because I order a cake for tomorrow, turns out tomorrow at work I'll be busy every from 9-7 so I call to see if maybe they did them today..they didn't but she assured me that she was able to get them ready for me by 4pm! Such a beautiful cake and they were very nice and friendly to deal with. The only consistent complaint was the icing was way too thick, making it really sweet. There were 13 of us and nobody ate the outside portion of their piece, sadly quite a waste. I love Instagram. I love how they have "videos/pictures you may like" under the search button so I'm always exploring. Under my search it consists of weightlifting, reality tv stuff and lots of FOOD. I was browsing one day when I saw a photo of cupcakes and of course liked it, I liked it even more when I discovered the new bakery is located in Calgary, I liked it even more more when I saw they were having cupcake happy hour on a Saturday so...$2 for full size cupcakes WHAAAAAAAAAAAAA?!!!! I knew I had to visit. After pannenkoek's, I told Amanda about this new bakery in town and we had to go because $2 cupcakes?! She agreed. Sweet Relief Pastries is located on 13th Avenue SW, right down the street from Hedkandi Salon. When we walked in, its super slick, bright and clean looking, obviously new. They have a display of goodies up front and a beautiful display of cakes and stands to the right. There is a small seating area where you can enjoy your cupcakes and a wall of rainbow sprinkles. During my visit, there were 6 different flavor of cupcakes: salted caramel, nutella, vanilla, coconut, raspberry and chocolate. They were also chocolate covered oreos which were quite pretty, some sugar cookies, Calgary O's (their take on an oreo) and some macarons. They were also decorating cakes in the back which was super cool to see. The lady up front was patient and sweet. We decided to go with a salted caramel cupcake each and share a raspberry one. Amanda also got three macarons for a little sweet snack to go. We were the only visitors at the time, so we took a seat and enjoyed the cupcakes. I noticed the raspberry cupcake was a little heavier than the salted caramel so I was afraid that the cake would be way too dense and dry but when we split the raspberry cupcake MMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!! The cake had a mild but noticeable lemon flavor, it was dense-ish but moist at the same time and the raspberry icing was SO GOOD - totally real, no artificial flavors, even bits of raspberry pieces were visible. We loved this one. We were quite full but couldn't resist digging into the salted caramel. It was topped with a couple of pretzel and the chocolate cake was super moist, totally melt in your mouth. The icing was the perfect ratio of salty and sweet. Just absolutely delicious. As I finish typing this review, I'm not sure if I regret writing this review because I wanted ALL THE CUPCAKES to myself but I realize I should not be greedy. So... YOU'RE WELCOME!!! Jenn tip: Take the bottom of the cupcake and put it on top of the icing so the icing is sandwiched between two layers of cake for a perfect cake to icing ratio...GENUIS I know. We visited the booth at Granary Road market on Friday and purchased a piece of the Nutella cake to go. While $6.50 may seem like a lot of money for a piece of cake, it's not in this case. We had 4 servings from the generous piece and it was simply delicious and decadent. This cake was dessert at it's finest. Rich moist chocolate cake (4 layers) with buttercream Nutella and real hazelnuts in between. There were elements of soft gooey parts and then some crunch from the hazelnut ganache. I was afraid it was going to be too sweet as a Nutella cake can be, but that was not the case here. Sweet Relief nailed it. I plan to work my way through ALL their cakes if this is any indication of what is to come. read more

I normally don't care to write reviews, but this place is more than well deserved. A co worker of mine recommended this place the other day and I had went without expecting much, but I ended up going back multiple times since - selection variety aren't too big but everything I had tried were really really good - some of the best I've had in town Macarons especially are one of the best I've had and I've tried a lot of macaron places in calgary, toronto, LA and Korea. Cheesecake minis were also very very good - not overly sweet, waxy, creamy, just the way I "imagine" a cheesecake to be when i crave them I haven't felt much like cupcakes lately, so I cant say, but they have a variety of tempting flavors read more

I hands down love this bakery! The friendliest in the city by a long shot, all the staff are so lovely. The selection and unique flavours are to die for. The macarons are the most consistently delicious and fresh in the city. The actual cake in the cupcakes is amazing and I could eat it without the frosting! When they did some special ones for Canada Day last year that included flavours like Nanaimo bar, butter tart, and maple, I thought I had died and gone to heaven.
