I've only done takeout. Both times the food was ready on time (and had not been sitting on a counter for 20 min before). I haven't made any special accommodations in the order. Generous portions mean the price makes sense. My favorites are the coconut shrimp (big! With real coconut!) and orange chicken (real orange slices in the sauce). Sesame chicken wings have good flavor and are large. If you want takeout for Chinese food, step right up! read more

We like it here! We've eaten here about 3-4 times and this is our first review. It's good and consistent. Ordered takeout the other night, and food was delivered earlier than promised. Only a dollar delivery fee from there to us in Lowry. What a deal! We got the sesame chicken, (big enough to be shared by 2 teenagers) veggie fried rice and lo mein, egg rolls (small but very good) and a side of veggies. Sweet Rice Café has been a neighborhood gem for ages. While restaurants come and go in this little strip on Jersey, Sweet Rice abides. Quality ingredients, tasty recipes, quick service, and fair prices beckon any time I'm in the mood for Chinese take out. Last night was a lo mein kind of night. In a moment of apostasy, I called a nearby competitor, just north on Krameria whose food is equally tasty. 45 minutes' wait for pickup, $25 for one order of beef & one of chicken lo mein. No, thanks. Sweet Rice had our noodles ready in 25 minutes for $19.86. As usual, both were cooked to perfection, chock full of veggies and meat, minimally greasy. Portions were large enough for leftovers. I have never had a bad dish here. Through a transition in ownership, this place has held on to all the things that make it a great option for Chinese take out. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. The delivery driver was prompt and very kind, excellent customer service, and I didn't realize until after he left that he arrived 20 minutes earlier than the estimated delivery time, so that was amazing. 2nd time I've ordered from them using their online portal and both times, the order was delivered at least 30 minutes later than the guaranteed time. Each time I called, they'd say it was on its way, and each time I'd have to call several times. Then when I got my order tonight, it wasn't correct. When I called to ask for a $2 refund for the fried rice up charge I didn't get, they tried to turn it around on me and said they needed to charge me for asking for all white meat chicken. Really? The order took 1.5 hrs for delivery and was delivered 30 minutes later than the time the email order confirmation said. The best Chinese joint in the neighborhood. Others are too greasy, too sweet, or too heavy on the canned vegetables (bamboo shoots/water chestnuts). Sweet Rice has real vegetables, not overcooked. They are generous with their meats. They don't charge extra for brown rice. Their only fish offering is deep fried and not great, but everything else is good. Delicious take out Chinese in Mayfair. They are very friendly and the food is always delicious. Big portions and you can't go wrong. Sesame chicken is crispy and sweet with just enough spice. It comes with a big side of white rice. Soups are tasty. My favorite is the chicken noodle. read more

Sweet Rice has really stepped it up recently. The food has improved and they have a nice app that easily sets up delivery. Prices are still good and haven't sky rocketed with inflation. We've enjoyed the Singapore Noodles, Kung Pao Tofu, scallion pancake, and beef sticks lately. Consistent quality at a good price and reliable delivery. Sweet Rice Cafe is a top notch Asian spot for quick and easy takeout. We live a few blocks away, so it has become an easy backup for those nights when we don't want to cook. I'm a huge fan of the curries and my hubs usually goes for the drunken noodle. You also get free egg rolls added on if your order is over 20 bucks (I think). We have tried the sweet and sour chicken (just okay) and beef with broccoli (a winner), but our go tos remain the curry and noodles. The staff is friendly and fast. Don't expect to go in and sit down as it's strictly a delivery or carry out option only. read more

First off let's start by saying this place is fast it only took about 15 to 20 minutes to get our order and it was hot. I ordered the shrimp pad thai it was yummy. The crispy egg rolls for dollar twenty-five a piece were also . And this place is portions are no joke I have enough pad thai noodles for at least 2 days. And I must say I even like the little hot and sour packets for the egg rolls definitely going to be ordering many other items off their menu in the future.. it's about 35 bucks to feed two people I guess that's not bad for delivery convenience dining.. so all in all this is a great little place with reasonable prices that's fast and in your hood.. I've lived in Denver for 20+ years and for a several years, in the Mayfair neighborhood. I always considered the Jersey Street shopping area to be a hidden gem, including the Sweet Rice Cafe that provided truly delicious Asian food options. After we moved to Central Park (Stapleton), we continued to treat ourselves to ordering from Sweet Rice. The previous (original?) owners delivered and we loved their food for several more years. Then, as I understand it, ownership changed hands. Perhaps my first indication that I may have a problem occurred when the new owner balked at delivering to Central Park but he begrudgingly - from my perspective - agreed. The food arrived after waiting longer than usual and I gave a healthy tip for their services. Sadly, that order was far below the Sweet Rice standards that I had become accustomed to for so many years. My wife, an Asian food lover like myself, agreed but we both felt the order was simply a blip. Weeks or so later we ordered again and again I received push back about delivery to our area. Simply said, if the owner informed me that he could no longer deliver to us, I would have happily driven there for take out. Nevertheless, the food arrived - this time taking even longer than the last order - but I provided an even larger tip. Sadly, the food was truly horrible. Almost the entire order went to waste. Maybe the new owner was sending us a passive aggressive signal - "do not order delivery from where you live" - or maybe they can't reproduce the delicious food Sweet Rice was known for making? I have been eating at Sweet Rice for many years now but last nights experience was a total failure. I ordered online and scheduled my pickup time for 1 hour later. I arrived and waited for 20 minutes for my food to be ready. They forgot to make it. I even tipped 20% online when I placed my order. I would have thought they would have thrown in a free egg roll or something but nope. It will be a while before I come back, and I won't be tipping. read more

I read the reviews but thought I would check it out anyways since it was so close. First of all, this is a take out/delivery place only...do not think you can come there to eat as they only have two crappy benches outside. The food was okay at best. The sauce was water down and the rice was cheap. I was really disappointed since the price was so high considering the amount and quality of food you got. The fortune cookie was stale and I "think" there was a small piece of glass possibly in my food but I can't confirm it but it was hard and grainy. I would avoid almost at all cost and go to any of the many other Asian places around the area. Heck, I would go to Panda Express over this place again. read more

This is a great little take-out place that I've been ordering from for the past 5 years and they've never let me down. I'm quite partial to their General Tao's Chicken, as it's loaded with ginger and chili peppers (it's about a mild plus). My partner loves their Seasame Tofu, and I have to agree! I'm not sure what was going on with the negative experiences a few other people posted. I mean, yes, when you order over the phone you're not exactly greeted like royalty, but it's a take-out place. There's a little bit of a language barrier and the person taking your order is usually in a very loud kitchen environment, so if you're not speaking clearly you won't get heard easily which can lead to some frustrations for both sides. Over a year later, I'm still ordering from Sweet Rice. This is definitely Americanized Chinese food, but it's pretty good. There are certain dishes that I've found to be particularly good and order regularly on a rotational basis. These include: - Ginger Chicken - Exploding Onion Beef - Hot-n-Sour Soup - War Wonton Soup - Jungle Curry Chicken - Assorted Vegetables - Vegetables with Tofu - Hunan Beef - Kung Pao Triple Delight, etc. I've found the meat dishes to contain a generous amount of meat. Seafood dishes, not so much. Most of the noodle dishes I've tried are a bit too oily for my taste so I don't order them any more. The portions of the stir fry entrees are generous, and the restaurant also send us some free eggrolls each time (we order multiple entrees and soup every time). They promptly answer the phone when you call, and they almost always show up at our door in less time than quoted. So , "Yay! I'm a fan." (Especially since I don't have to cook!) read more

Both times I went to Sweet Rice (which is the sweetest little Asian cafe) I took my kids to the park just across the street and waited patiently. It is worth the wait, by all means. I ordered the egg foo young and my daughter ordered curry beef, we always get wontons, egg rolls, and fried rice. The food is always flavorful with the perfect amount of spice. They have a traditional Chinese menu with a few Thai specialites (which are very good). Lots of vegetarian offerings and great soups. I have ordered takeout from this little gem for over 10 years and the food has been consistently good. I've read some negative reviewers' remarks and determined that these people consider themselves "foodies" and are actually very misaligned as far as rating a neighborhood takeout restaurant according to their impossibly picky standards. Through the years, I've seen them expand their menu from a good basic set of Chinese dishes, and venturing into Thai territory. They've added good basic Thai offerings and DELIVER them to your door in a reasonable amount of time. Barring extreme weather conditions, the majority of my orders have gotten here quicker than was promised. Delivery folks are always personable and professional. Think about this: this restaurant does a lot of business, and probably has the occasional late delivery or dish that did not meet a self-proclaimed "foody's" standard. And that disappointed individual has Yelp as their podium for delivering their "valuable insight". With all the choices available to spend their hard- earned cash, the one time something went wrong--look out small neighborhood business--you will suffer the "foody's" wrath. For me, this place has never delivered a bad dish. I think they have perennially strong dishes like Kung Pow Triple Delight and Moo Shu in any combination. I will concede I don't care for their crab cheese wantons for the simple reason they have carrot bits in them. I like all their soups. they always include plenty of spicy mustard, sweet and sour sauce, napkins, utensils, fortune cookies--they pay attention to that stuff, and that's reassuring. The accusations that Sweet Rice is a front for something illegal is a pretty mean and cheap thing to slander at a legitimate well-liked neighborhood business. We have been ordering from Sweet Rice for years, and this small, family-run spot has made several people in *my* family consistently happy. I'm actually quite partial to Little Dragon nearby in Mayfair, but my son and daughter say that Sweet Rice has the best sesame chicken, hands down: it's not too sweet, not too gooey, with a nice almost crunchy texture to the batter and just the right amount of red pepper flakes and rice vinegar to balance the sweet with a little bit of heat and just a mild tang in the sauce. (Their sesame tofu obviously uses the same batter and is also quite good.) My son likes their crab cheese wontons -- he says Sweet Rice use real crabmeat and doesn't overdo it on the cream cheese. Their Szechuan beef is crispy, with julienned veggies and a lot of heat. An experiment with lemon chicken was pretty much a failure - - the chicken was perfect, but it came with a lemon sauce that was almost neon - - kind of the lemon version of sweet-and-sour sauce. Wayyy too sweet. Their cod with black bean sauce was delicious, and their shrimp dishes are mostly well done also. I don't eat meat anymore, and haven't found their veggie options to be inspiring, but they aren't awful-- certainly nothing to throw away. (Their hot and sour soup is a bit glutinous, but friends told me that's just how the soup is made, and it will be glutinous almost anywhere.) We've had prompt delivery with fresh, hot food, free eggrolls, and a few standouts. It's not cheap, but not exorbitant either. One caution: it's definitely not a place to eat in. Their one location is where they do the cooking so don't go looking for a dining experience. I think they're a good one to keep in the rotation, y'know? read more

SPEND YOUR MONEY LITERALLY ANYWHERE ELSE. Wow... We will NEVER order here again. These guys came around the apartment complex, sticking flyers with a coupon on everyone's door, and boy did they fool us. We ended up getting the food, trying it, throwing it away, and cooking dinner anyway... Called to order this evening, and the woman on the phone was downright rude. I felt like I should be apologizing for asking her to take my order... it was clearly not something that she wanted to do. I had her on speaker while ordering, and we were both trying not to laugh it was so rediculous. We ordered orange chicken and been lo mein, and had a coupon for a free eggroll, which the lady acknowledged on the phone, and then which was not honored when the delivery guy came with the receipt. About an hour later, we had the food, and started with the soggy egg rolls. They're mostly cabbage, and mediocre is probably generous. The lo mein was typical, certainly nothing to get excited about, and was rather bland. I ate a couple of bites and became disinterested. The orange chicken was the kicker, however. It looked terrible and tasted worse. Completely and totally inedible. Orange chicken typically has some sort of delicious orange sauce, but not this time! We got dry breaded and fried chicken which was all doughy. Took one bite and spat it back out again. Couldn't even eat one little piece, this was so nasty. There aren't a lot of good Chinese delivery places nearby, so we were excited to try something new, but this is quite literally the worst food I've ever had delivered. It's expensive to start with, but when you have to throw it away, this is just a HUGE waste of money. Eating 28 one dollar bills would have tasted better. Yuck. read more

I will start with this: food is very good. But, I did not get what I asked for tonight; so I have to give the service a major fail. I asked for brown rice and got white. I asked for 8 ounces of a certain sauce and instead got 4 ounces. So, good food does not matter if it is not exactly what I wanted or expected when I got home. I too am surprised to read the other negative reviews. I have lived in this hood for years now and we find Sweet Rice to be a consistent, quality and reliable take out place. What could a girl be more thankful for than that? A great go to place when you can't think of what to do for dinner, are having a hankering' for Chinese or just can't bare the thought of washing one more pan. It's good stuff. Good delivery times when I have smallish people who can easily ask 12 times a piece when the dinner will be here is a huge plus. Never had a wrong or jacked up order, also big plus. Once I only had a large bill in which to pay and when I asked if it would be a problem, they said the driver wouldn't be able to make change but we'd just take care of it " next time", this is a really cool way to do business with a repeat customer. So the place is not the BEST I've ever had, China town in Chicago is the best I've had.I have however not been able to find better take out in a close, easy, reliable place ANYWHERE! Their chicken and pea pod is super good, egg foo young... pretty satisfying, mung bean thread... my kids LOVE this, hot and sour soup, coconut shrimp, Damn Skippy! Now I'm hungry for sure. Awful, awful, awful!!! For some reason we got take out here instead of from our mainstay, Spicy Thai (go there instead!) We split an entree of sesame chicken, it was awful it must have been the cheapest fattiest cuts of chicken, I didn't have any white chicken at all, the crab wontons were horrendous, I told my husband that the inside tasted like thousand island dressing and there were all these chunks of orage stuff in them (carrot maybe? Who really knows) they were absolutely awful, we defintely didn't fight over them. Spicy Thai is even a tiny bit cheaper and the food is great and the quality is so much better. This place is awful! That being said, I've only done take out so I can't speak for how it is when you go there. How do you mess up egg drop soup and crab cheese wontons? I don't know, but this place gets an A+ in doing so. The egg drop soup had so much corn in it they should have called it 'corn drop soup'.
