I've been a regular at this restaurant for over a year, and I need to warn everyone: they charge different prices to different people every single day. This isn't an occasional mistake--it's a daily practice that affects every customer. You could order the exact same meal as the person in front of you, and still be charged a completely different amount. For example, someone might pay $7.40, and then you'll be charged much more for the same thing. It's not a tax issue--taxes don't vary by person. It's clear that they charge you whatever they want to charge you. I've tried to make sense of it, but there's no logic. One day we're charged less, the next day more--for the exact same meal we always get. And I've seen it happen to everyone else in line, not just me. The food? Mediocre at best--nothing special. And definitely not worth putting up with this kind of shady pricing. Be warned: they do this every day, to every customer. Check your receipt and don't assume you're being treated fairly. read more

Can't say I was overly impressed... I'll preface this with I went at about 8:45pm when they were starting to clean up, so the food wasn't perhaps as fresh. Pros: Very good pricing, a whole meal and drink for eight dollars is hard to beat in Denver Cons: Sauces seem to be either overly sweet or not flavorful enough, and the fried chicken dishes seemed more chewy than expected. In conclusion, I'm glad I've tried it as the sign kept standing out when driving that way, but can't say I'll make this a repeat stop. read more

For a basic "scoop" Chinese place, so so good. Comparable to Panda Express in my opinion. You can't go wrong with their combo. The egg roll was just alright, so I'll probably try the cheese wantons instead next time. Service was fine, not overly friendly but no issues at all. One of the best Chinese restaurants I've been to. Food was excellent, and a great value. Three of us ate for 18$. This included shrimp lo mein for $9, egg drop soup, and 6 cheese wantons. Half of the lo mein was leftover, could've easily just split that. The egg drop soup was only $2 for a "small". The value was just overall awesome! It was kind of hard to order, since the person in the front had a hard time understanding us, or vice versa. Easy to look past for me, and they weren't unfriendly. One of my favorite places to eat in Denver! A small very popular family owned restaurant. The best thing you can do is support small businesses. Our favorite food to eat from here is definitely the Teriyaki Chicken. The family is always super kind even when it is completely packed full of customers. Reason for this review is because while we bought 2 wontons the woman at the register still charged my son $.25 for sweet and sour sauce when I sent him back up to get some. My husband ordered lunch from here and got so much food for $20. He got a lunch plate that came with two entrees, rice, and an egg roll. Let me start by saying the rice was the best Chinese restaurant rice we have ever had. There was so much flavor. I forgot what kind of chicken he ordered as entrees but the chicken was so juicy, and sauced perfectly. The hot sauce we were given didn't over power the taste of the food, but elevated the taste, and added heat at the same time. It was genius, honestly. He also ordered potato chicken, which we had never heard of before. And it was cooked perfectly. The potatoes were perfect. I was so impressed by the ability of a Chinese restaurant to achieve this texture of potato. My husband doesn't want to eat at any other Chinese restaurant. I prefer Ho Mei No3. This one isnt bad. They are friendly and the give you a decent portion. Its reasonable. The food is tasty but i felt as if it could of been hotter. It was a lil warm while i was eating it. The Egg Roll was hot. Im partial to the other one because they always give you extra soda and extra food. I will become a regular at this one though when im on this side of town. The restaurant is clean and thats a big plus. They do charge a Qtr for Sweet and Sour Sauce though. I did have to contact the Health Department because my chicken didnt feel hot as it should of been. The Health Dept contacted me and said the food on top wasnt as hot as it should of been. But Beneath it the food was held at the recommended 135 Degrees temp. They wrote them up for the food being to cool on the top and suggested they get better up to date Heatlamps to keep the food on top at the proper temp. read more

So today after some quick shopping I stopped by and grabbed a combo. 1/2 fried rice with 1/2 lo mein for my sides and then orange chicken and teriyaki chicken with 2 crab wontons and a soda, all of that was $5 after tax. They give you a lot of food and it actually looked and smelt pretty good. I started eating it and it was bland. The fried rice tasted like regular plain white rice, the lo mein like lightly sauced pasta noodles, the chicken dishes were ok. At about mid way point thru the meal I was thinking a 2 or 2.5 rating would be fair due to it being editable and ok for the price and quantity. And then I bit into a bone in my orange chicken. A pretty good sized bone. So.. If you want some very mediocre food, and a lot of it, feel free. If you're looking for good food you're going to want to look somewhere else. read more

I've eaten take out there many times. Food is fare, or even better. 9/23/22 just after opening i came in, ordered $5.99 meal for wife, only low mein and chicken for me. Got to cashier who spoke no English. She opened both meals styrofoam cintainers, held them up for me to see. I said "yes, only 2 entrees on second one" . She takes it back and puts some low mein and chicken back in the display. Then charges me $10.39. Ok. She points to the soda cooler (soda included in$5.99 price). I asked if the iced tea is considered as included drink. She puts that in bag, then adds another dollar plus cents to register. $11.40 ish. No receipt. Guess I lost the included soda! At home found won tons smashed on top of rice, soggy! They had always packed separately in bag! Unbelievable. read more

I give this place five stars. I have visited this restaurant about four or five times now. They have been consistent with the quality of their food. I've noticed that they are clean, The bathrooms are clean, it when somebody gets done eating someone is quick to go wipe up the table. I've also noticed behind the glass they keep a very clean and neat station. I've tried the pepper shrimp, teriyaki chicken, orange chicken, and sesame chicken. They were all excellent sesame chicken needed just a little bit more flavor. Me and my friend eat there and you get a free drink with your meal so two meals with two drinks comes up to around eight or nine dollars I don't think you can beat that anywhere. And the quality of the food is great for the price I've eaten at places were the price was more expensive and the food was less quality. This place is exactly what you'd expect. $6 for a huge mf plate of noodles, orange chicken, fried rice, or whatever your lil stoned self desires. It's not gourmet, but it's not ridiculously priced like every other food place in Denver. The noodles taste like cheap yummy greasy noodles. The orange chicken is overly breaded but who DOESNT like the bread on their chicken. it's like when you get Taco Bell, you're not gonna be getting a freaking smothered burrito with a side of fresh pico de gallo and homemade tortilla chips. Set your expectations based on the fact that these are definitely spaghetti noodles with some type of Asian seasoning on them being labeled as lo mein. but I have to give this place five stars because without a cheap Asian food place less than five minutes walking distance from my house, I would have to spend $25 on a single plate of takeout. Pretty sure this place should be closed down.. In the past it had health code violations up the Wazoo and after eating here, regrettably, with a co-worker the other day, nothing has changed. I've lived in the neighbourhood since this place opened like fifteen years ago and the decline has been obvious and disgusting. There was rats droppings when we walked in, but I didn't mention it. This food isn't even Chinese food, it's like fake Chinese which is extremely ironic. The Orange chicken I ordered contained ZERO CHICKEN, it was all chicken skin or just batter. They use spaghetti noodles for lo mein which is the number one glaring sign that a Chinese restaurant is total skimp on everything trash. The fried rice was garbage and all in all I will never eat here again, not even if promised money... Me and my friend headed here a few days ago. We read the previous reviews and were ecstatic to try America's "Third Worst Restaurant." Tons of reviewers have rated this place incredibly low and I can understand why, but I'm rating differently. Upon entering the place the thought crossed my mind "it's a dollar scoop place, don't have exceedingly high expectations." We both ordered the $4.50 combo meal which includes your choice of rice or LO mien, 2 entrees, your choice of egg rolls or wontons and a drink, can't beat that with a stick! They were putting in fresh sesame chicken, so I went with that along with orange chicken, lo mien and wontons. The food was incredible for the price. There were tiny bits that were cold and the soda was warm, that's the only reason why my review is shy one star. Yes, the cheese is runny in the wontons but it doesn't bother me. I haven't been in three days and I cannot feel a hint of sickness. As a broke college student, I enjoyed all this food for the price. Check it out! read more

Quite literally the worst "Chinese food" I've ever had. They use actual spaghetti noodles for the lo mein, and it's super greasy. All of the chicken I got was over-fried and drowning in syrupy sauce. The portions are also absurd. I asked for smaller servings and was completely ignored by the woman serving me - she just kept heaping it on even though I asked her several times not to because I wasn't going to eat that much and didn't want to waste it. There's a sign outside that says "Combo meal + Soda $3.99". It's buffet style inside and everything looks somewhat edible. Don't bother asking what things are because the people working can't understand a word you say. I do know a few things-the lo mein is actually a form of spaghetti, the cream cheese wontons are just that-liquid filled cream cheese in a wonton. The place is depressing, and I was ashamed to even be seen in here. I wanted to clutch my stomach and curl up in the fetal position after eating here. I think most reviewers may have unrealistic expectations for a scoop chinese restaurant. It should be understood that you're probably _not_ going to get top quality food, but it'll be cheap as all get out. You can get food here by the scoop; at $1.35/scoop. Honestly, I've never done that as I just go with the combo meal for $4.29. That includes a hefty portion of rice, two entrees, an eggroll or wonton, AND a drink. FOR LESS THAN FIVE DOLLARS PEOPLE. It's a legitimate pound and a half of food. They fill the box to the brim. It's not really a scoop per entrees. It's more like "Hey, here's a big scoop, and here's another, oh and let me give you 3 more litlte scoops to try and pile it as high as gravity will allow". If I were to drop my box of food I'd probably bruise my toe. Clearly you get a lot of food for your money. Now is it any good? Some yes, and some no. You've been warned. I think their fried rice is actually some of the best that I've had in the Denver metro area. I can't comment on their noodles as I always get the rice (see previous sentence). I'd be willing to say that 1/3 of the entrees are good, 1/3 are just OK, and the last 1/3 you'd be best to avoid. It's tough to say which 2/3 are acceptable. I think it varies from day to day and also personal taste. I typically love the "happy family" dish at chinese restaurants. Yea, Ho Mei's is more like "Sad Family". Not good. Pick and choose until you find a combination that works for you. At $1.35 a gamble, you could afford to try everything in the entire restaurant for less than $20. I personally like the fried rice with orange chicken (not sesame... sesame is on the left, orange is on the right), and BBQ pork. Give it a shot. It's not _that_ scary, and you could feed an entire family (or a single fluffy person) for less than $5. read more

Like one of the other reviews said, most people that have posted a review of Ho Mei have completely unrealistic expectations of a "per scoop" Chinese place. You're not going to be eating gourmet food, but for less than $5 for more food than some people can eat....you can't beat it. I've been here a few times and I'm never disappointed. Last time I went in I had sesame chicken and beef with broccoli, both of which were fresh and good. The eggrolls are pretty gross, but who cares when you're getting over a pound of food for $5? If you want authentic, gourmet Chinese, go somewhere else. But if you want a cheap, filling, (mostly) tasty meal give them a shot. read more

Look, this is a "dollar a scoop" Chinese place, not the Canton Palace in Hong Kong. Here is what I know: I have been coming here for about a year now and the place has never steered me wrong. Every dish I have had is not just palatable, but generally enjoyable. The portions are huge. You get enough for a meal and a half for less that $5. If you are frightened away by appearances (or the neighborhood clientelle) don't bother coming in.
