Best waxing experience I have ever had, no lie! I love this place. I didn't feel like driving all the way to my usual place, so I figured I'd give this place a try. I was able to book an appointment online in the same day (within a couple hours, really) and it's only a few miles from my house. I had Bevan and she was so great! For being a regular wax, it was *fairly* painless and quick. This salon is SO clean and the staff is very friendly. The prices are all listed online and it's fairly affordable, especially for being in town. The parking is easy (behind the building), but sparse. There is always someone different who does the waxing.. You can't pick who you want to be waxed by which has not been a problem.. Overall I had a positive experience.. However every once in a while there is someone who should not be working there. Like a few months ago, a girl who left me shouting in pain. When I said I never experienced this much pain, she would say she went to anesthetician school in a rude manner.. Luckily i never saw her again.. The last time I went there, I have been left completely in wax. She said that she was done, but I could feel wax she didn't clean up the wax at all... So I was like, there is still wax on my skin, and she said she is done and I can use some cream to clean it myself... She didn't show me the results with mirror, and of course after she is gone, I see that there is ton of hair left and some areas she didn't even touch! I am completely dissatisfied. That is not to say that there are also some good people who work there who have asked me if the wax was too hot or not, or remove it with very little pain.. However, after this last awful experience, I am done with this place and will never use their services again. read more

Just an update ... I am still in love with Sweet Samba and booking with Chris! I've switched to sugaring because of her recommendation and I am so happy with it. Waxing is never completely comfortable but sugaring is much more pleasant than hard wax. I feel like the hair growth is slower, thinner and less course. I'm so grateful Chris educated me about it and mentioned trying it. I really enjoy her services ... she is so pleasant and always remembers things discussed before. Sweet staff but the woman who did my brows just burned the hell out off brow skin and my skin lifted a bit on my upper lip too. This happened even after I told the girl I had sensitive skin, so I thought there would be more precaution instead of just ripping it off abruptly as she did. During the wax I told her I felt like my skin was irritated and she didn't stop to take care of it or look, she said one sec and kept waxing the other side even though I knew it was becoming painful. The times she wiped it off with the cool wipey was heaven, but I needed more than that, skin was ripped! Too much hair was taken as well. I asked for a basic clean up and bit of shape I like my brows medium thick. Now I have thin brows when I didn't ask for that, a nightmare to grow back now for someone who has tiny brows to begin with. I hate my brows after this wax. No pause to take care of the skin that was ripped and generally a bad brow wax. Pic as proof, sensitive skin ladies don't get waxed here. Not worth it. I'll spend the next two weeks with Neosporin on my brow instead;( Just moved to ATL, and first-time brow wax, won't be coming back sadly. Like always, I've had great experiences at Sweet Samba! I wish there were a location closer to me; therefore, I could keep up regular maintenance of waxing. I've been three times now-I forgot the first girls name, but each time has been consistent. Amanda and Dilshad alike have great attention to detail and are knowledgeable of the product. They offer a painless experience.....For me that's a winner!!! I've been told that each esthetician rotates to different locations, but I've always been pleased (knock on wood). I came in for a lash appointment today I was charged the wrong price in the computer then manually recharged for another price .. after being home with my lash extensions my eyes are swollen and red where the placement of the location I have been wear lashes for over 2 years and have use the Howell mill location and never had a problem. This used to be my favorite place until recently. Every time I come here it's always a wait. I made my appointment at 12 to be the first person seen by an esthetician and low and behold I get here and I have to WAIT!!! I always came back to this location because I received such great service from Chris but at this point it's not even worth the wait. They have so many rules if you the customer is late but don't offer a discount if THEY ARE BEHIND.. let's not mention the horrendous parking... I have been getting waxed for close to 10 years at this point, and this is the only place I'm willing to go to. I have tried others, and they have just not been up to par. I have extremely sensitive skin and the products they use never fail me. I have also received a few facials here at this location, and they were all magical. Check back with them as they run occasional specials. Newbies get waxes for $25. Regular price is $35. I have visited all other locations except for two, and can vouch for them as well. I love this place . I have never had a bad experience . I was referred to this place when I moved to atl 4 years ago and I have never strayed away . My first Brazilian was when I was a whole like 4-5 months pregnant . They were so sweet and it wasn't painful. I guess all the ones after that just never seemed as intense . I have sensitive skin and they always prep and treat my area good after . I love having them apart of my hygiene regimen . HORRIBLE. CUSTOMER. SERVICE. I came to the midtown location after having an excellent experience with their Inman park sister store. Before booking, I called ahead to confirm the student discount rate I saw online and to schedule an appointment and was told that the student discount was available for that day and would be honored. I went in for the appointment, which was wonderful, but was then held up at the counter when I was told they no longer offered the student discount and had been mistaken earlier on the phone and they would no longer honor the student price confirmed earlier that day. It's irresponsible of a business to not honor a deal that was confirmed with a customer. AFTER 4 YEARS I STILL CANNOT LET GO OF HOW POORLY I WAS TREATED AND FELT COMPELLED TO LEAVE THIS REVIEW TO TELL EVERYONE THAT THEY DO NOT HONOR DISCOUNTS MADE EARLIER ON THE PHONE AND DO NOT RESPECT THEIR CUSTOMERS. The employees were so awesome and sweet. They did a great job with greeting and offering what the best services were. I actually went in wanting sugaring, but that was not the best hair removal option for me. Unfortunately all hair was not successfully removed. I am okay with some of the hair that was hard to be removed, but not the hair that obviously should have been removed and was not. When paying for hair removal, I want to ensure that the hair that I am requesting should be removed. This was a great visit, but I will not be back. read more

I have zero pain threshold when it comes to getting hairs yanked out of places. So I avoid waxing as often as possible. Obviously this is not the best approach. I am trying to get in that 30-40 day visit and where I was going was in Druid Hills. I decided to swing by here because I can practically walk there. I had a great experience and the wax was less painful than usual. The wax they used was gentle. May try Sugaring next visit! The interior is clean and tastefully decorated. They play real nice, soothing but non boring music (They had Lake Street Dive playing when I arrived) A great staff also! OHHH, and they even have a mini boutique inside with clothing and accessories/candles, plus some beauty products. They have a parking lot in back with around 5-6 spots. It was my first time at this location and the only reason I chose this location is because I was near it at the moment and called to see if they had any availability. This is definitely in my top 2 waxing experiences. Italia is such a great esthetician and person. I received a Brazilian wax from her and she made it the calmest process. She would not let you leave if your service is not the best it can possibly be and you can tell she cares about what she does. She also made great suggestions for after care. She didn't miss a beat. The owners must have had a lucrative investor help push them up the capitalist ladder. I used to go to them when they were a small shop of friendly people off of Powers Ferry. I tried them yesterday and while the new place is fancy and new, I don't need the frills...which ultimately get passed on to me in overpriced waxing services. My waxonista was awesome, but not better than my regular waxonista (who was out of town and I'm going to the beach, so I needed a backup waxonista). There was a bit of wax left in my 'area,' and the prices are silly. I'm used to paying $35 for the entire Brazilian and my regular waxonista doesn't charge extra for leaving a strip. That works out for my regular waxonista because I end up tipping her more. So to summarize: I didn't get an itemized bill; however, I purchased a $20 after wax cream. My final cost was $75. So math would say that the wax service was $55. That works out to $50 for the standard service and an extra $5 for leaving the strip of hair. My regular waxonista charges $35, she cleans up most the wax. Why would I go back and pay more for less? I paid $20 more for a waxing experience that is no better than the one I go to in a less fancy spot. Drive off of powers ferry and find a place owned/operated by Brazilians. They won't overcharge you. As I mentioned, the owners have upgraded. When I first started going when they were off of Powers Ferry, I developed a pretty good rapport with a certain waxonista. She left and they told me she returned to Brazil; however, my friends told me that she simply moved waxing shops. She's now at a place that charges $35 for a full Brazilian. Didn't really appreciate the lack of ethics. Inbox me if you want the name of my waxonista. Again - don't go if you're into the unnecessary frills of Sweet Samba (soothing music, drinks, ect - for me it's just a wax, I don't really need the spa experience). Only go if you want a great waxonista and want to pay $35. read more

I know I said I was going to shut up about waxing, but I had a Life Realization ™ the other day at Sweet Samba. It is part of my good works in this life to educate people on the importance of using a skilled waxer. You don't have to experience excruciating pain, ingrown hairs, or the kind of faint blood blisters that make your crotch look like it's been mauled by a dog. Really. I couldn't get in with the love of my life waxer (my bf was coming home from a week long business trip and i needed my lady garden groomed STAT) so I went down to Sweet Samba thinking it wouldn't be the end of the world. Halfway through the wax as I was holding my breath and sweating from how much it hurt, I started wishing I could send my sweet baby skin some flowers and an apology card. Proper waxing should never be this painful. I could see tiny droplets of blood rising up out of my skin. My poor little baby cuca! I'd like to spare the ladies of the world my discomfort and subsequent weeks-later, sorta embarrassing ingrown hairs. If you get waxed, find a good waxer. Someone you love and trust. Very cute place. I went in for their Brazilian wax special for first time clients. I was surprised at how large the waxing room was. I couldn't see the door which was kind of annoying. I mean you never want to feel like someone could walk in on you. Anyway, I think the one thing that really stuck with me about this place is that the waxer left out the room while I got undressed but there was no towel or anything to cover myself up so I basically had to lie on the table half dressed and exposed while waiting for her to come back. Can you say awkward? Then when she was done she stayed to start cleaning the room while I got dressed. Awkward again? It was just a little uncomfortable so I don't think I'll be returning. Also when I got home I noticed lots of stray hairs in the *ahem* backside area. Of course, I would have done a more thorough inspection before I left had I been able to get dressed ALONE. Honestly Sweet Samba has been very hit or miss for me. In a pinch, it's easy to get an appointment. As for quality of your wax, it all depends on what esthetician you get and its hard to request a specific girl. The receptionists can only tell you if they are at their specific location that day. I've had amazing waxes and I've had them miss one whole side of my Brazilian. I basically have anxiety about how my wax will end up when I get there. Pros: Fair price Ease of making appointments Great reception Short wait times Take cash or credit/debit Great location Hard wax Cons: Estheticians are hit or miss (the good ones always leave) Can't go back for extra hair removal if a spot is missed and you don't catch it immediately (signs are posted about this now...) Sweet samba reminds me of Forrest Gump: "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get). In their defense, I have heard they used to be much more consistent in their quality of services. I will be back if i can't find an appointment anywhere else since I have a crazy schedule, but it will no longer be my "regular" waxing salon. read more

This was my 2nd visit to Sweet Samba and have a big complaint - the service requested was not the service received. I had called in and reserved their version of a deep bikini. (As a side note, their waxing service menu is not as straightforward as it should be. Each style has cute names rather than clear distinctions.) My service was excellent and painless. The aesthetician and I had such a good time chatting (I know some people prefer just to watch the overhead TV) that I wasn't really paying attention to what was or was not being waxed. For some waxing newbies, this may seem hard to believe, but I'm a veteran waxing customer and it just doesn't hurt anymore. I'm used to it and pain is a non-issue. Anyhoo... Afterwards when I got to the desk to pay, my bill was more than expected. I told them I had asked for a deep bikini (The Barely Bare) but apparently had received the French Kiss (brazilian with a landing strip). I had the feeling there had been a little bait and switch. I know what I requested and was not happy that somehow there had been a miscommunication between the front desk reservation and what was told to the aesthetician. To sum up, the service is good & the place is cute but I do not like feeling like I had been tricked into an upgrade. My advice is to pay very close attention to the confusing waxing menu and be sure to reiterate to your aesthetician exactly what is being done so there will be no confusion. read more

There is NO other place to get waxed in this city. All others claim to be "painless" and genuine, but they are imposters! Terrified from my last waxing experience at BLISS (more like the "murderous torturous skin ripping, bleeding, tearing of the privates spot for hair removal"...) which took three sets of eyes and TWO sets of hands to get me out of the MESS that woman created!!! (I'm not sasquatch by any means - in fact, it's not much of a job for real professional to take care of.)...They were simply incompetent in their technique! Anway!!!!!!.I found the perfect place for waxing. THIS is why I ADORE Sweet Samba! I told them what happened to me at "THAT place" and they handled me with the utmost care. I have been going to Sweet Samba for 2 years. After my last visit I will not be back. Prior to coming I made specific request for a particular technician. Once I got there they gave me a random technician. This was the third time in a row this happened. With "it" being such an intimate service (that you must commit to in advance with a credit card) it seems reasonable to be able to request who you share this experience with. HOWEVER, this was the least of my problems!!! I have read other reviews about how exposed one feels in the room; well...I actually had another customer walk in while I was in the middle of getting my service!!! The technician was like "I don't know why they (meaning management) doesn't do something about that!" Apparently it has happened before. This particular room is close to the bathroom. When I spoke to the front desk staff member about my experience (no one initiated an apology) the girl seemed like she was at a loss. Poor thing, she was new. I paid, tipped the technician, and asked for the owner to call me. He never did. A week later a brand new manager called me back offering a sheepish apology but no refund, credit, or anything. Asked again for the owner to call; have not heard anything to date (4weeks later). Quite a humiliating experience. read more
