A 3.5 experience, but I'm rounding up because they're new and they have a lot of potential.
Went to Sweetfern Geometer with a friend and had a lovely time overall, though there are definitely kinks still being worked out. The space itself is beautiful; I loved the blue walls, open kitchen concept, and the art throughout. Cozy, welcoming, and the vibe was perfect for a special dinner. Service was great too; our server was attentive, helpful with recommendations, and really friendly.
The food is where things were a bit mixed. The concept is farm-to-table, which clearly showed in the compact but impressive menu with plenty of local ingredients. Unsolicited advice: I'd love to know where some of the food is coming from; a callout to the local farms on the menu would be a nice touch.
We started with the biscuits and corn dip, both good, but the corn dip portion was on the smaller side and came with regular potato chips instead of the blue chips listed on the menu. Potato chips aren't great for dipping, especially when more than half were broken. Not what I was expecting, though the dip itself was yummy.
I ordered the short rib, one of the pricier mains, and sadly it didn't quite land. The meat was good, but it didn't really taste like short rib, the au jus was nowhere to be found, and the mashed potatoes were a bit bland. My husband's damb burger (duck and lamb) was delicious, though the side of roasted veggies was on the smaller side. Our friend's monkfish looked incredible and he wouldn't stop raving about it; clear winner of the night. The shishito peppers and biscuits were also both fantastic. And the dessert, a blueberry cake, was incredible.
The drinks menu isn't too extensive but the choices are solid. They have bottles, though they weren't printed on the menu yet when we visited, so ask your server. We went with an orange wine from Slovenia that was light and refreshing.
I'm rooting for this place! read more
