Service issues Didn't listen well to items being ordered. Then got overcharged by cashier (noticed it while eating and had to go up and get a credit). Then the employee doing the mixing was slamming all the metal bowls behind her, making it unpleasant to dine in. So all in all a lot of issues. And on a customer flow standpoint, it would help if the sign containing the prices of the 'premium' items (with their prices) were placed ABOVE the station with the items! I really like this place: I like the food, the ingredients, the concept, the design. In fact, there's little to DISLIKE about this place. My favorite salad: the Santorini with a "medium" amount of dressing (love that they ask). Chopped romaine with roasted shrimp, feta cheese, grapes, fresh mint, chickpeas, topped with a cucumber basil yogurt dressing and some fresh lemon juice. Who ever thought that shrimp, feta, grapes, and mint went together? Certainly not me, but they do (and beautifully so) in this salad. All of their salads are under 550 calories (except for the fattie boombattie Derby Cobb at 725) and can be altered to be vegetarian or meatatarian. Either way, they're all tasty and fresh. read more

Sweet lord, how I am obsessed with this place! When I first heard about Sweetgreen, I completely snubbed the place. "Salads and fro-yo? Ick." Fast forward a few months and this new location popped up a block over from work. Not willing to spend another $8 on overpriced, unsatisfying sushi from the Whole Foods across the street, I decided to give this place a try. The cashier saw me scanning the menu and with excited eyes she handed me one of their menus, made out of sunflower seeds. "Smell this," she said. "I want to make tea out of it!" Apparently you can plant their menus to grow sunflowers. Sold. Per her suggestion, I ordered the Guacamole Greens salad which includes mesclun with roasted chicken, avocado, grape tomatoes, red onion, topped with crushed tortilla chips and a lime cilantro jalapeno vinaigrette. Since I'm a vegetarian, I swapped the chicken for their falafels. The salad was quickly made in a matter of a few minutes, then packaged in a large plastic container with a piece of bread since I was taking it back to the office. Let me tell you, this is one of the best salads I've ever had. The flavors reminded me of those lime chips, zesty and crunchy. Despite the fact that there's jalapeno in the dressing, it wasn't spicy at all. It was just really sharp and interesting, with the different textures of avocado, greens and chips. Eight hours later, I was still fantasizing about the salad back at home. I then ate at Sweet Greens for my next three consecutive lunches. It's that good. Since I can't afford to eat a $9 salad everyday, I've bought the ingredients to make the salad at home. Still haven't mastered the dressing though! Some tips: get the guacamole salad to start. You'll get hooked. Don't overdo it on the dressing like I did one time. Salads are unsatisfying if they're too dry, but they're inedible if they're overdressed. A sad salad = a sad day. Also, scan their QR code on your phone for a free smoothie with a salad purchase. iPhone users need to download "Barcode," a free app. I'll miss Sweetgreen when I move to California next week. But at least I'll have a sunflower to remember them by. read more

I frequent the Chop't on F and 12th and absolutely love it, so naturally when I go to another salad place I am going to compare it to Chop't. So far I have been to two Sweetgreens, Ballston location and here and they just don't stack up to Chop't. Here is why: -lengthy wait, yet rushed: the line management at Chop't is vastly superior to this one. The lines at Chop't get long but actually move rather fast. The line here today was not long but it took forever to get to the front. Then when you get to the front of line, each server was in a huge hurry to move the salad along to the next station and it is hard to get a chance to say special requests. They also don't pass on the special requests - I ended up saying "no sauce" to four different people. I like Chop't's system of one ingredient thrower and one person working on your salad much better, as it is faster and you get a chance to tell them what you want and only have to tell them once. -less choice: Sweetgreen only has a small handful of specialty salads, only one of which appeals to me - the guacamole greens salad, although I switch out the chicken for shrimp. Chop't has a lot more appealing choices on the menu. I think it is better to have more choices on the menu because building your own salad can be difficult with guestimating the price and not backing up the line even more. -no chopping: the salads aren't well-mixed and the ingredients are still in large chunks. What happens is the chunks of ingredients end up falling to the bottom and the lettuce layers on top. And then you accidently finish the lettuce part long before you have finished the salad and the last several bites are just ingredient chunks with no accompanying lettuce. I also don't like their shrimp as much as the shrimp Chop't uses. And Chop't's ingredients list is clearer and easier to know what to do. And lastly, I usually get the Palm Beach Shrimp Salad at Chop't which has two premium ingredients, shrimp and avocado, and also a semi-premium ingredient of hearts of palm. This salad costs $10.99. At Sweetgreen I get the guacamole greens salad with 2 premium ingredients, shrimp and avocado, along with the extremely cheap ingredients of lettuce, tomato, onions and tortilla chip crumbles. But Sweetgreen's salad is more expensive than Chop't at $11.23. This is not a huge difference, but Chop't's salads are chopped, you can make special requests without feeling like you are holding everything up, and they are slightly cheaper. At the same time, I do like Sweetgreen's bread better and I also like that they offer a splash of lime juice on the salad. That tastes really good, but with all the other things, Chop't beats it pretty handily. read more

After months of passing by Sweetgreen while shopping at Whole Foods, I finally stopped in. Oh my goodness. How could a salad be that good? I had the vegan specialty salad - the sabva or something like that. Sorry, can't remember the name. I loved the combination of radishes, spinach, beets, quinoa, cranberries, sprouts, and the carrot chili dressing. Do they sell dressing? I would buy that one. It was light and flavorful. I wish they had more salad combinations that were vegetarian and vegan. I know you can make your own, but it's fun to try combinations that other people think are good because it may not be something I'd put together on my own. The staff was really nice and genuinely acted happy to be there - you know, not like I was bothering them which is how I felt on a recent visit to Au Bon Pain. I will definitely be back. I usually go to Chop't and now I realize why I do. In today's market place where consumers have endless options, I am astounded by the lack of enthusiasm and poor service that customers receive. I am not sure who does the training, but could the staff at Sweet Green be any less motivated? At the end of the day, restaurants are a dime a dozen in Dc. What will set you apart from the next guy? I would hope that it would be a GREAT dining experience--one that you would be happy to tell your friends/family about. read more

Sweetgreen cafes have been cropping up all over DC. When the first one opened in Georgetown in 2007, I kept meaning to go there, but never did. Since then, they've opened a total of five in DC, 2 in Maryland, 2 in Virginia, and 2 in Pennsylvania. That's some serious growth for a business that was founded by local Georgetown grads. The concept is based upon fresh, locally-sourced, farm-fresh salads and yogurt (not a fan!). They offer a selection of signature and mix-your-own salads that can also be put in wraps along with a soup of the day. Recently, they added warm grains to their menu and that is what really intrigued me enough to go and try them out. The location that is closest to me is the one in Logan Circle. The good thing about this location is that it is right across from Whole Foods in a well-traveled area. The bad thing about this location is that it is right across from Whole Foods where their salad bar is amazing. It is for this reason that I had never gotten a salad from Sweetgreen at this location. Zach and I went on a Saturday afternoon just before noon. There were very few people there so even though there was very little seating, there were still plenty of seats to choose from. The decor had a modern feel to it with the wood grain and bright colors. Two of the signature salads were marked as vegan - very nice. I ultimately decided to order the special salad of the month. Zach, unbeknownst to me, ordered the exact same thing, but had it put it in a whole wheat wrap. When we walked up to the register, I noticed that they had cups of kale chips for sale as well. We passed, but they looked interesting. When they rung us up, we realized that the $8 salads were pretty pricey. We thought, "they had better be good!" The salad was definitely large enough to be a meal. The spinach and warm grains including quinoa, wheatberries, and barley were tossed with fresh vegetables and topped with Sriracha and carrot chili vinaigrette. The sliced carrots and sprouts were complemented by cubed fresh beets and spicy broccoli. Add in some roasted tofu and the spicy dressings and you have yourself a tasty meal. Zach enjoyed his wrap as well. By the time we left, the cafe was packed and all the seats were taken. I love the concept and even though the salads were slightly pricey, at least they were loaded with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, which gets them a thumbs-up in my book. read more

I stumbled upon this little joint recently while on my debut visit to DC. While exploring the endless neighborhoods of the city my tummy began to grumble. Unfamiliar with the area, I took a chance at Sweet Greens. The atmosphere looked pretty cool and the line crammed in the small place seemed like a good sign. Offering a classic selection of soups, salads and sandwiches with a creative and tasty twist Sweet Greens has something fro everybody. Eat meat, they got ya covered. Vegan or vegetarian? Check. Gluten-free. It's all good. I noshed on the Chic P salad with fresh peppers, chickpeas, spring greens, falafel, crisp cucumbers and a tasty tahini dressing. The veggies were fresh and delicious and gave a nice balance to the softer texture of the chickpeas and falafel. The portions are plentiful and kept me full for a good chunk of the day. Oh and the ginger cucumber lemonade was a dream. I tried to think of endless of ways to smuggle gallons of this back to Detroit with me. The cucumber taste wasn't too overwhelming and in general the drink wasn't too sweet. Just refreshing and worth multiple texts back home to friends. Employed at a restaurant that works with local farmers and urban agriculture non-profits I was very excited to see a chalkboard with a lengthy list of local ingredients offered for salads and sandwiches. Everything from mushrooms to tofu. This place is a hipster version of Panera and Cosi., it seems.Perhaps, for those that live in areas where they have a strong presence, for an out of towner I think the most of this place. This is absolutely my favorite Sweet Green. They're all slightly different with varying energies, mildly tweaked offerings, and separate dining room layouts. This one is the sunniest AND it has the best toppings, although the seating fills up easily. Plus, it just "feels" better. I think it's the more sunlight. The best part of this SG outpost is the "chic p" salad (or whatever they call it) with oven baked falafel! It's totally vegan, muy delicioso, and it really feels healthy. Let's face it, just because something is a salad doesn't mean it's a healthy choice. Lettuce has almost no nutrients, especially iceberg or romaine, and most salads are wolves in sheep's clothing. I'm hoping that's not the case with the ones at Sweet Green. Nevertheless, if you are concerned, the build-your-own format allows you to tell them exactly how much dressing you want. Fresh, Fresh, Fresh! This is one of those places where I've fallen in love with just one thing. And I only order that one thing over and over and over again. Even though I want to try other things I can't. Because my love it true. A+ and a heart chic p -mesclun & baby spinach with baked falafel, chickpeas, cucumbers, fresh peppers, pita chips; topped with a lemon hummus tahini dressing. Vegan. OK but I substitute the peppers with red onions and get chicken instead of falafel. So delicious. I've improved the chic p. I call it the chic v. A Décor - I never feel crowded out at the Logan Circle location. It's a small space but the ordering line doesn't intrude on the seating area. Nice! Space comes with water/ice dispenser. Nice! A Service - The manager recognized me as a frequent customer and gave me cucumber tea! On the house! When was the last time that happened to you? I end up paying around $10 but feel totally FULL. Sorry folks, I'm your cliche urban yuppie - a Dupontee with no car, a job in media and a love of hiking on the weekends.... so I'm automatically partial to establishments like this. BUT there are a couple of things that make this place ah-freakin'-mazing: 1. Parmesan chips. Any salad is a salivation nation with these bad boys. 2. Pay-on-your-phone app. Just scan it at the counter and get your receipt emailed to you. Dangerously easy & quick. 3. Never knew I was into kale until I started becoming a regular? Now addicted. I think the Sweetgreen locations on P ST and Conn avenue are very comparable in terms of quality, size, etc, so I'll reiterate what I said in my review of Sweetgreen on Conn avenue: Of all the salad places around DC, I really like Sweetgreen the most. I think their ingredients are the freshest and they have a lot of local produce. I wish they delivered like Chop't does. If they did, I would order from them a lot more. If you try and go during lunch hours, expect to wait a bit (10-20 mins). If you know what you want, you can order ahead of time online and just pick it up and avoid the lines. read more

Amazing, amazing salads. It took this location a little while to work out the initial kinks, but now that they have, it's one of my favorite places to grab a quick meal. My addiction is the Bondi - hearts of palm, avocado, delicious grilled chicken, and crunchy wasabi peas... SO good, healthy and filling. The bread they give you with the salad is truly delicious too (though I usually skip it to avoid the extra calories.) I love THIS Sweet Green! They USUALLY give decent portions unlike the Capital Hill one. Love the street they are on with fine neighbors like Whole Foods. This location still seems fairly new and well maintained. I love that SG has sweet potato as a topping. I love how the staff are pretty nice even when I ask them to give me more frozen yogurt :D I also think this location makes the frozen yogurt the best. And finally, I looooooove ABU (I hope I spelled your name right!) ABU is my favorite SG worker. He knows how I loooooove my frozen yogurt and he knows how I looooove my SG. I've been to several other Sweetgreens is DC, and this is by far the worst one in the city. The cashier was super slow, so the line backed up, and she was totally rude. I had to take my salad home because the tables were full, and when I finally sat down to eat it, I discovered that they forgot the chicken! I wasn't going back, so I just put up with it. But then I took a bite...and the salad was terrible! I ordered the Bondi, which is one of their pre-designed salads and the menu. The flavors were awful and the ingredients clashed with each other. For example, the palm hearts were pickled (ew!), and when combined with the wasabi pies (which were dried), it created an awful flavor and even worse texture. I can't believe a salad was that bad. I will never go back to Sweetgreen. read more

I never dreamed that I'd have such strong feelings about a salad shop. But I really do love everything about the Sweetgreen at Logan Square, from the appealing name, the deliciously composed signature salads, the $.50 discount I receive for bringing in my own bowl (purchased there), the frequent customer program, and the wonderful friendly service. I don't know what it is about Sweetgreen's salads that makes them so, so delicious (I suspect the dressing has a lot to do with it, along with very fresh greens) but it really doesn't compare to the salads I compose on my own. Standby favorites are the Guacamole Greens and the Sabzi, and their seasonal creations are always excellent. The only, only reason I am refraining from awarding this place five stars is the price. $10 for a take-out salad, viewed from any angle, is just a bit too steep even by DC standards. I'm marking it down one star because the guy making my salad gave such a tiny portion of each topping. Perhaps I could have said something, but whatever. This review is basically for all of the Sweetgreens I have been to (Dupont, Logan and Cap Hill), but will add a note about this particular location at the end. I'm actually giving this place 3.5-4 stars, depending on certain factors. This is the hipster salad place, which makes sense since the Georgetown alums who run it fall into that category. They were the first to bring tangy frozen yogurt to DC, and I think their version is the best of the bunch. They use Stoneyfields, so you know it's good stuff. It also tastes the most natural, not overly sweet like some other places (talking to you Mr. Yogato!). I'm not such a fan of the price and size options. Would be nice if they had a kiddie size or a listed for plain yogurt without toppings (you can order this and it's less but they don't advertise). I like their soups and their newly introduced sides. However, a few times they have seemed like they were sitting a little too long; could have gone in at a bad time. However, one of the cashiers needs a filter. When describing a caprese side dish he told me it was the gazapacho soup from the other day mixed in with cheese...great, thanks for the info. Tape his mouth up! Their signature salads seem good but I usually make my own. I do find their salads, and the quantity, to be less of a value than a place like Chop't, but it does almost seem fresher and more manageable to eat. I really wish their scoops were a tad bigger and give you a few more pieces of your pricey selected veggies and topping. I like how they grate the parmesan as you wait for your salad--plus. They also have seasonal ingredients, which is a nice touch. Most of the staff and management who work at the locations I have been to have been very kind and helpful. However, one worker (at the Logan location) was such a snotty princess. I haven't seen him the last few times I was there, but he was incredibly rude and almost suspicious with a major attitude. I like this place, can handle the prices and while they might try a little too hard to be the cool, green kids in town, by all means, open up more locations. Sweetgreen is definitely one of the better salad places that have been popping up everywhere. I like the fact that they offer a monthly salad based upon local ingredients and whatever is in season. I love the fact that this Sweetgreen location is near both my work (frequented a lot for lunch), and on my way home for a quick healthy dinner when I am too lazy to cook for myself (which is often). Everytime I have been here, either at lunch or for dinner, the line has moved efficiently and the staff is always friendly. read more

Oh Sweetgreen @ Logan. How I wanted to love you as much as I love your sibling in Dupont. And I've tried. I really have. I avoided you opening week because I knew it would be chaos (it was). I made excuses for you the second week when you screwed up three of my orders on three consecutive trips...obviously I was optimistic - I kept coming back. But even though you're uber convenient, one block away from my domicile, I'm afraid I'll have to hoof it to Dupont from here on in. Somehow they always manage to get my (uncomplicated, straight from the chalkboard without substitutions) order right on the first try. Why am I breaking up with you? Because you've been open for over a month now and at LEAST every other time you have trouble with my order. Today, there were two people in line in front of me, waiting. One person making salads very, very slowly. One person standing by the yogurt, not helping salad person. Yogurt guy did ask, very nicely, "are you getting salads?" and when we all said yes, yes we were - he continued to stand there and not help. I can only assume that was because he was yogurt guy and NOT salad guy. (you'd think they'd crosstrain?) The salad guy was struggling. STRUGGLING. And I couldn't wait 20 minutes. So I asked yogurt guy if I could come back in 30 minutes and pick up the two salads I came to order. He said sure! Wrote down my info. I came back in 30 minutes, as advertised. Yogurt guy was gone. Struggling salad guy was nowhere to be found. The other three people behind the counter knew nothing about my order. One of them quite competently made my salads for me on the fly (although later I found out, much to my dismay, that the wasabi peas were M.I.A.). But come on, now! When you let me down twice in one day, Sweetgreen @ Logan, I'm not having it. Your salads are smaller than Dupont. Your service hasn't gotten more expeditious. My orders are wrong at least 80% of the time. And if I'm going to pay upwards of $8 for a salad, I'd like to get at least 2 out of 3 of the above in the process even though you're super, super convenient... *sigh* So long, Sweetgreen @ Logan. I was debating if I wanted to "penalize" this place for the high price of their salads, but when I think about it, it is really worth the cost. If you get the salad you want, you will probably pay about $10. When i compare that too a salad I might get at Cheesecake Factory, any steakhouse, or most restaurants in the neighborhood, it ends up being about the same price. Because i can customize the salad with local and organic ingredients that I want, it ends up being a better salad than i will get at those places anyway. I think it is more fair to compare it to those places than to compare to other take-out like McDonald's salads or what have you. I like that it is simple. I usually ask them to mix all the greens together. They have regular delicious ingredients like fresh mushrooms, grape tomatoes, beets, etc. and then occasionally have seasonal items like portabellas or strawberries, etc. The ingredients are fresh and it's worth the price for a lunch or dinner that is healthy and tastes great. read more

Tried their frozen yogurt yesterday. Small size + 3 complimentary toppings = $4.50 They only had original flavor and I added blueberry, raspberry, and strawberry. It was okay, nothing mind blowing. They weren't really generous with the fruit, so I ended up eating a lot of yogurt (which at that point I wish it was self-serve..). Reminds me of exactly of those yogurt beverages (suan nai) I used to drink China, if anyone knows what I'm talking about. The good part is that you can take your frozen yogurt, and sit in Dupont Circle to enjoy. read more

I was initially opposed to another sweetgreen in the general Dupont Circle area, but I gotta admit: This place is pretty good. I had the chic p (non-meat version) salad. Tip: Don't go light on the dressing. I asked for a medium amount of dressing, but my salad was still a little too dry for my tastes. Unfortunately, I'd got it to-go, so there was nothing I could do about it. Though I'm a HUGE Yogato fan, this place has amazing froyo. Since I am twenty three and work in downtown in DC, my diet has slowly shifted to salads for lunch. I guess this is what it is like to be a grown up. And because the friendly, neighborhood Chopt is only a few blocks away, I probably frequent to locale atleast twice a week. The competing chain, Sweetgreen, is nowhere around the Penn Quarter so I had not made it to one since moving to the District. This changed when I was in Logan Circle visiting a friend. A Sweetgreen was open (along with Lululemon, Whole Foods, Vida, Bangs.... Yuppie Heaven!) and I was hungry so I stopped in. Important to note the subtle difference between Sweetgreen and Chopt. I find Chopt's ingredients to be more traditional: panko chicken, apples, edamame, beans. Sweetgreen's choices are a little more upscale: spicy quinoa, soba noodles, baked falafel, ect. Sweetgreen does not chop their salads as well. None of this really matters. I love both places. I had the Misoba salad and enjoyed every bite. Complex flavors, yummy ingredients, fresh. While Chopt will still be my go to, its nice to have Sweetgreen in my back pocket in case I want to switch it up. It's not really any more expensive than Chopt either. Sweetgreen is definitely a place worth checking out. read more

I love the abundance of salad places popping up recently and was excited to try Sweetgreen. This place had opened recently and is extremely convenient to the boyfriend's apartment. We stopped in on a Tuesday evening and ordered the chic pea and the guacamole greens salads. I loved the salad options and the variety of choice ingredients - everything was very fresh. The problem? The dressing. On both salads. Even though I felt as though there was an abundance of dressing on each, it just wasn't flavorful. I felt as though I was simply eating fresh veggies and chickpeas. (the Falafel was also slightly overcooked). Perhaps the answer is to ask for more dressing next time? read more

From the green-nees with compostable bowls and utensils, to the house made tea and lemonade, everything just oozed scuppy. Staff was very friendly and efficient as was the clientele. I love Sweetgreen. This is my favorite place in the city for salad. The guacamole greens is my favorite, but everything I've had has been delicious. I love the way the inside is decorated. Unfortunately, it's a little small, so sometimes finding seating isn't an option. The line often hangs out the door, so even with the efficient staff, it can still be a bit of a wait. Also, the salads, while delicious, are expensive. If only they were a dollar or two cheaper, I would come here way more often. read more

Sweetgreen is my go-to for salads - local ingredients, friendly service, and it's a local chain (started in Georgetown by two students)! On my recent visit, I had Rad Thai - healthier among their options, perhaps that's why it is not my fav (it has lots of greens). I like to get spicy sabzi, or one of their grain options like the harvest bowl. It's a bummer that the sauces load on calories because they definitely add to the taste. Love at first bite! I still remember trying Sweetgreen in GTown when it first opened up, and I loved (and still love) having some parmesan crunch with my salads. Yesterday, however, it was my hunkering for tart froyo that took me (with Baby1) here. On our walk there, I explained to her, that I want to take her to this place to try a flavor/texture combination she hasn't tried before - and that so long as she just tried a bite, if she didn't like it, there was a gelato place just 2 doors down where we could stop for a sweet little icy treat for her. As we sauntered, we first passed Pitango, and she instantly pointed and said, "this is the place!" I pulled her along, and explained, no - where we're going is just couple of doors down. She was a little unsure about leaving her first assumption, as she had already seen the colorful gelato in the hands of the PitPatrons. So with our single order of tart froyo, topped with granola, chocolate chips, and dried cranberries, we sat down, and I gave her a spoon to try her first bite. A little taste, and she was an instant fan. I had to convince her that having a couple of toppings would be just as lovely, as she wanted her froyo just plain - but a couple of minutes later, there we were, the two of us at the table, digging into our froyo treats for the afternoon. She may have loved her frozen treat for just what it was on a warm summer afternoon, but I loved it for all it was giving her - Stoneyfield yogurt; a treat without all the sugar in ice cream and typical frozen yogurts (given how much sugar is in every other kids' treat anyway); and, not the least, an expansion of her childhood palate. I did miss that Sweetgreen doesn't offer mochi as a topping, but their fresh toppings are just wonderful as they are. read more

Yum. Oh man, I dream about the guacamole greens with chicken and their cilantro lime jalapeno dressing. Its just such a perfect salad. I don't know what it is but I can never figure out how to make it at home. The frozen yogurt is yummy too! Only reason it doesn't get a fifth star is because it is so pricey! read more

Delicious! What a great addition to the neighborhood. The service is great and the food is awesome. I had the vegan chick p wrap and was amazed. The people behind the counter were friendly and one lady remembered me the next day when I returned for the frozen yogurt. This review is more about the service then anything. i went in friday night and ordered the chicken salad.. the guy who took my order looked and acted like he just smoked a few joints. He had to read the recipe over and over and over again and then i asked for avocado which is extra and they cut it in half and just smooshed it into my salad bowl and sealed it up and sent me on my way home.. i'm sorry but can't they at least chop up my 1/2 $1 avocado? ANyways, the salad was good and very fresh-- i think they need to get a training program and drug testing for their staff. read more
