This review is for the candy store more than the sodas shop. I have made a few treks to Sweeties for what is essentially a candy warehouse. It's definitely a sight to behold! It's been really good for finding nostalgic and more difficult to find things as well as gifts/ stocking stuffers. They have chocolate and assorted candies as well as a case of confections. It's a little pricey for mainstream candy that you can buy other places though so that's the downside. The service has always been friendly. And the soda shop is really cute. It's probably a great treat for visitors and kids. Plus I think the mini golf is up and in full swing now. read more

I hate to say it, but Sweeties Soda Shoppe has deteriorated in service, product and cleanliness. Once a fun CLE icon, it has now joined the ranks of "could not care less" about the customer in service and messy, melting ice cream, literally. Ordered an $8 parfait and received a melted mess with toppings and chocolate running down the sides of the cup. At first, I was told my order was taking longer than expected to get to the table because the person making it had dropped it on the floor, and they had to make another. I did not see that happen. All I can say is that what I received did not look "made over" rather "added to" with melted ice cream throughout except for one small scoop on the top covered in melting whipped cream and a sliding cherry in a stream of runny chocolate. When I told an employee about it she replied, " Ice cream tends to melt faster on a parfait" Um. What? I questioned that and all she could do was look at my order and say, don't worry about the mess, I'll clean it up". There was no attempt at all to make it right, especially since 5 minutes later a person sitting at the table next to me was served a perfectly beautiful parfait, no runs, drips or melts visible. As far as I could tell she was not emptying the napkin holder like I had to to keep the running mess from flooding the tabletop. Anyway, the experience was truly capped off when I left the Shoppe and noticed how filthy the entrance way was. Floor, & baseboards are crusted with dirt and black fingerprints all around the door handle and up the sides. Although I love CLE and it's quirky eateries and sights, I will no longer recommend ANYONE go there. Especially tourists....we don't need another mistake on the Lake reference. read more

Stopped here, with a friend, to get some ice cream. It was a little confusing when we walked in because we weren't sure if we should order first or sit at a table and wait for someone to bring menus. I asked the person cleaning tables what we should do. Turns out one orders at the counter, where the cash register is located. Then, after the order is paid for, the customer is given a number to take to their table. Staff members bring the ice cream to the tables. The ice cream is delicious. It's also a good value for the size of the sundaes. The ice cream was fresh and tasted delicious. The toppings were good too. There was a very good balance between the toppings and ice cream. Sweeties is a huge candy warehouse, but doesn't stop at candy. They have popcorn, ice cream and flavored sodas( with Putt Putt right next door). I really enjoyed my trip to sweeties, they had all the classics, snickers, nerds lollipops, candy I've never heard of, plus giant pickles and flavored popcorn. My favorite part was the sodas, I walked away with about 10 different flavors, from root beers, lemonade and cherry limeade. If your in the area or is definitely worth it! read more

This is an attached soda shoppe to the big candy warehouse with innumerable flavors and a self-serve ice cream area with probably 30 toppings to choose from. They don't sell the serve your own by weight so it is one fixed price which is a win for folks like me who cram every atom possible in the given cups read more

This place is really cool. We found completely by accident on our road trip, heading back into Pennsylvania. This place is loaded with candy and has just about every piece of candy. Whatever you think they have they have. Prices are very reasonable and they even have an ice cream shop where they have a soft serve ice cream small for $4.25 and you can load it up with toppings by yourself. After visiting the candy side, we opted for ice cream. The shop itself is very cute, with tables that have seats that swing, and also milk cans with tractor seats attached. The ice cream is all made there and there is a large variety from which to choose. They also have many specialty sundaes, milkshakes, etc. I think their prices are too high for what you get. I got a single scoop of peanut butter fudge, and the ice cream is good, but the scoop was smaller than I would have expected. Everyone enjoyed their choices, but agreed it's overpriced. Unlike the mini-golf next door that I just reviewed, the Soda Shoppe is totally legit. The deserts are all reasonably priced & the portions are massive! The picture I took really doesn't do it justice. One standard desert is more than enough to split with your special someone. Beyond that, I ate said desert sitting on a SWING! Although it didn't do anything for the taste of the ice cream, it made me happy to swing at the table while I ate it. The Soda Shoppe has A LOT of charm & is totally worth the stop. We both made it through without buying anything. We walked through the warehouse to the soda shop. There are literally hundreds of different types and flavors of soda with which you can flavor floats and other frozen creations with. We both had root beer floats with two scoops of vanilla ice cream and Great Oak Barrel Aged Root Beer from Chicago, IL. My son also had a cyclone. I had three scoops of coffee ice cream in a bowl. That was followed by two scoops of chocolate ice cream and a scoop of pistachio. Afterwards we played 36 holes of putt putt golf. Both my son and I scored a hole in one on both the easy & hard courses. Overall it was a fun afternoon. read more

I've been to sweeties dozens of times over the years but I've never ventured into the soda shoppe. I will certainly be back though. So many options and very customizable. For instance you can make your own float by choosing your own unique flavor of soda and icecream. My bf got a churro flavored soda and vanilla icecream. They also have some tables with a swing seat on one side which was perfect for my 8 yr old who cannot sit still. The table was covered in a sheet of blank coloring paper and we all got in on the action making little doodles and enjoying our icecream. It is a bit pricier than your average icecream shop but they have a mini golf course next door and of course the candy warehouse. So bring your wallet and make a day of it. read more

You'll feel like a kid in a candy shop. No, wait - you ARE a big kid in an adorable soda fountain attached to the largest candy warehouse in Cleveland. Dreams DO come true! It's hard to spot Sweeties from the street owing to the massive parking lot for both the warehouse and new soda shoppe. I immediately felt 20 points cheerier when I walked in the door and saw all the bright lighting, swing chairs, and booth seats waiting to be enjoyed. The employees have been keeping everything neat and tidy so far, and are very patient when it comes to deciding between soft serve (Dole Pineapple Whip is here?!?), the long list of ice cream flavors (and variations), and the even more extensive soda options. You can ask to sample the ice cream flavors before committing, and I highly suggest doing so. Remember to ask for those seasonal flavors as well! Soft serve is priced by cup size rather than weight, so feel free to pile up those toppings as space permits. Okay, but back to those ice creams. They are some of the softest, dairy-est desserts ever. The flavors aren't nearly as bold as Mitchell's or Mason's per se, but there's this roof of your mouth feeling I got from the vanilla that just screamed good milk. Would also recommend the Buckeye for any peanut butter lovers. Surprisingly, this place is also great to camp out for a while. There are outlets scattered around the dining area and clean restrooms (two stalls for the ladies) inside. Not to mention, Wi-Fi! Employees are friendly but will mostly leave you in peace while you dine/talk. In the summer, I imagine many people will start making use of the patio. Also, apparently there's a private room for rent if you've ever wanted to live out the most epic ice cream party in real life. It might be getting colder outside, but Sweeties Soda Shoppe really warms you up from the inside out. Stay a while, draw on the place mats, spin around on some of those bar stools. This place was a crisis between the soda shoppes back in the day and a rustic modern barn. I don't know if I'm doing it justice but know that it was a place for everyone. It's been a year or so since our first visit, but it seems that the staff have lost their energy or interest in keeping up the sweet shop space. This time besides at best being disinterested in our presence it was obvious that the staff were not being focused to work on the sweet shop. A section of the shop was closed off for some kind of candy inventory work, the entire space was a little dirty, they have a very visible construction effort going on just outside the windows so all in all it felt like they were getting ready for some other season and couldn't give a crap about this season's customers. We stopped into Sweeties Sode Shoppe after we played mini golf next door. We had a coupon for BOGO floats to use. The first thing I noticed was the high prices, $6.25 for an average-sized soda float? What? I will say it is pretty cool that you can choose from over 200 of their craft sodas to have in your float as well as choose the flavor of ice cream. I know you're paying for the customization, but still that seems very expensive to me. As for the taste, I thought it was good. I just got vanilla ice cream with lemon meringue soda and I thought the flavor combo worked super well together and was really creamy. My boyfriend liked his as well but we both agreed they weren't worth the steep price. Another thing I noticed was that the floor seemed a bit unkempt. There was a lot of marks on the floor, presumably where they were putting the "6 feet apart" markers that accumulated with dirt and such, and there was a lot of bits of food on the counter where the ice cream topping bar was located. This was a bit off-putting, but hopefully they get their act together and clean up a bit. I'd be willing to try this place again with one of the other coupons we have. read more
