My kids and I walked in for macaroons and immediately had an odd feeling about this place. The store was empty, dark, the displays had no lighting, and the drink refrigerators were not running. There was no menu and prices were not listed. My 4 year old grabbed a marshmallow lollipop and we selected 4 macaroon cookies. The middle-aged lady at the register rang us up. Such A lovely little chocolate shop! We sampled 8 chocolates with a shot of chocolate wine for $4. My favorites were the dark chocolate coffee toffee and the dark chocolate tiramisu carmel. A small chocolate gem nestled on the second floor of the Monterey Canning Company beside, A taste of Monterey. A small yet spacious store that is neatly organized. No clutter or mess in this candy store. They have wine and chocolate pairing for $8 a must try when stopping by. We loved trying the different chocolate but be warned the more you try, the more you will buy. We initially came just for the chocolate covered cashews but we left with double chocolate praline covered chocolate and ginger covered chocolates as well. The praline chocolates were from a company called Marich from Hollister, A premium chocolate factory. The dark chocolate ginger was in a package with the Sweetock label, so wondering if she made these herself, they were absolutely amazing. The owner is a sweet and patient lady. We roamed in the store looking at knick knacks and was not pressured to buy or felt that she was crowding our window shopping space, yet she was eager to let us try the different chocolates... This place is literally hidden amongst the rest of the stores along cannery row. It's not on the Main Street, so you wouldn't casually pass by it. We only stumbled upon it because it's in the same building as lily mae's cinnamon rolls and we needed to use the restrooms which were only located upstairs. We came out of the restroom and saw the sign for chocolate tasting. Sweetock was alongside a few other stores upstairs that also looked like they didn't receive much foot traffic. We walked in, saw the sign for "8 chocolates for $3 & complimentary wine," then a woman started explaining right away the different chocolate they had, and we were sold. 3$?! Why not? There were a couple tables and seats to enjoy your little chocolates. My girlfriend and I tried the tiramisu, maple bacon, early grey, mint, matcha, chile lime, mango, dark/milk chocolate sea salt popcorn, and pumpkin spice. Some flavors were definitely more adventurous than others, but they were all good! Yes, even the chile lime mango was one of my favorites along with the matcha and maple bacon.
