I can never resist an apple from here whenever I'm in the area. The Pecan Bear, Peanut Bear and Almond Bear are always such a sweet treat! I always look at the chocolates there and while it's pricey, it's definitely worth it, although I can never finish it in one sitting. Though like the apple, it can always be eaten over the course of a few days to extend the delightfulness! While the sweet treats are great, customer service is always a hit or miss and until you flag someone down, they won't come to help you unless you're by the register. Though on a slower day, they're a tad more pleasant. It's also a small shop with a huge bear inside so you can only fit so many people plus a stroller, so best to leave them out if possible. read more

I visited the Monterey, California store today. The service was mediocre, but more than that, there was a problem with hygiene. This store is reusing the plastic sheets used as a barrier to pick up product. There was a mound of crumpled sheets on top of the box that dispensed them. The employee grabbed one on top, got the items I requested, and then put the sheet back on the pile. The employees just grab a sheet and reuse it. There are several problems with this. The first being that no one was washing hands between handling money and grabbing a protective sheet. There is no telling which side of the used protective sheet had the previous user's hand touching it. This also lends itself to cross contamination between guests orders. A guest who was with sensitivities or allergies now has possible contamination from a previous guest's order. This is absolutely appalling. read more

I am SO disappointed with how I have to drive all the way to this location from San Jose! I love Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory! Unfortunately this shop is no longer in San Jose or Milpitas. I believe the shelter in place is to blame because they were doing so good before Covid-19. The Candy Apples are my absolute favorite! I love all of the variety they have, but I must say the Oreo Cookie (Worms and Dirt) apple is my all time favorite! I would like to thank the staff here for being so friendly and kind! We frequented this location a lot when our kids were younger. It was always packed and had lots of options. The last few times we have been there, no one is there (red flag) and choices are minimal. The shelves and cases aren't even fully stocked. They no longer serve a variety of fudges, as well as some other favorites other shops still have. I stopped ordering for myself some time ago, but my husband continues to be hopeful they will get better since he loves caramel apples. August 8 was the fourth time in recent history he ordered a caramel apple and it was not good. On two occasions it was because the apples were old and mealy; the other two times the caramel was sliding off - he said it reminded him of a bad attempt at making them at home. The icing on the cake for me is their attitude - they always exhibit an attitude of not caring about the customers, and if you ask a question they respond in a belittling manner. Yet another favorite place of ours that has gone so far downhill, we can no longer support their business. read more

This chocolate shop chain is one of my priority stops whenever we happen across one during our travels. This place just draws me in the minute Joe K and I look into their windows! The beautiful and tempting displays of all things chocolaty will demand your attention! They have every type of chocolate coated sweets that you can think of from fruits to nuts. Outstanding caramel apples, truffles, fudge, milk chocolates, white chocolates, and dark chocolates in a variety of choices from hard, soft and melt in your mouth candies. One of my favorites are the chocolate dipped frozen cheese cakes on a stick! If you ever have dinner at one of the many places in Monterey, make sure you save room for one of these deliciously rich cheese cakes! My sister and I discovered this many years ago, and now I have been hooked on them ever since! It's hard to believe that there are people out in this world that don't like chocolate! This place is good, it really is. They always have fresh product. I'm giving 2 stars because they added an extra charge without telling us. We bought 2 apples which we don't get cut since we like to take them home to enjoy. They always put them in a small white bag for take out. THEY CHARGE 25 CENTS PER BAG. I think that is insane! A regular sized bag from a grocery store is 10 cents. This SMALL white bag is 25 cents. I also consider this place to be take out, food service, etc so why are they charging for bags? That's like McDonald's or Applebee's charging for bags. The fact that they also don't say anything until after they put your items in the bag. What am I supposed to do...carry around a bare apple while walking around Cannery Row? We had to buy the bags anyways since we don't randomly carry small paper bags in our purses. Next time we will bring our own bag or container. They already charge around $9 an apple so why can't the bag be free? It's not even fancy, reusable, or have their name printed on it. I understand smaller businesses are suffering but, come on! read more

The sugar-free raspberry chocolate truffles are the pinnacle of the Rocky Mountain chocolate factory. I actually got the rice krispy treat; my friend got the truffles. She loved it so much that she went back for another. For the rest of the day, the truffles could not leave her mind. That says a lot, as she has very high chocolate/fruit dessert standards. Hello, I just stopped by after dinner for something sweet and unfortunately the two girls were extremely bothered by our presence. No welcome in or can we help you find anything. I love the chocolate here but unfortunately as I asked for two items, it was as if I was disturbing the girls behind the counter. I asked for a raspberry truffle and a s'more type of chocolate. Both times It was if I was bothering the girls and may I add no smile no nothing. So ashamed of there response. This was around 7:05pm no one else was in the store but my partner and I. It was if I had walked in begging for these items to be free. What happened to common curtesy? Please understand this is still very important. It costs nothing to smile, if you hate your job please stay home. The small gestures of simply welcoming customers in is still valued. A must pit stop before heading back home from a fun-filled day in Monterey. They allow only 1 family/household inside at a time so there's definitely a line outside but it's worth it! Since my mom is now allergic to peanuts, we opted for the caramel & almond covered apple and I found my new favorite! It's tempting to pick the other flavors like cheesecake, rocky road, etc. but this combo (to me) is a classic and you don't feel as guilty indulging the entire thing by yourself. I have to admit, I absolutely love Dark Chocolate! Now mix in an array of nuts, honey, fruit and marshmallows, I am on cloud 9 and in chocolate heaven! When you walk in you first smell the savory sweet nectar of all the goodness in the store. The placement of their caramel and chocolate dipped apples are right in the front, screaming "buy me, eat me but do not worry about the cavities" haha. My absolute favorite is the counter with the chocolates. Milk chocolate and Dark chocolates. Oh my....so many to choose from. Normally I would have went for chocolate covered almonds and or the crunchy toffee, but I went with the Dark Chocolate Rocky Road chunk. I was visiting Monterey with our family and we researched where to find the best fudge (as there are many candy stores in the area). We relied on Yelp reviews to try this place and paid $14 for two squares of fudge that were barely two inches by two inches. If you're on the "aroma diet" you will be pleased to know that you will quickly fill up in this sweet-smelling place. Just a few minutes and you will feel quite full! The classic experience is watching them smoosh together their chocolate in semi-liquid form in a giant vat- conveniently placed next to the window. Bystanders young and old watch in reverence as chocolate is born. They have a great candy apple selection! And candied other fruits too. Also a great selection of truffles... and random bits of sweet bark... and, and, and just about every other kind of super random sweet thing. Even... candy-dipped marshmallows! Wowza. There's no taffy or packaged candy. This is all "top end" sweets. Not cheap, but always worth it and with a consistent quality that is very good. This is a very small shop and their selection isn't enormous, objectively speaking. However for their size, they impress... and are definitely worth a quick gander (and a slow nibble). read more

Lovely place to get your chocolate fix while strolling on cannery row. They are open unto 10pm so tourists can eat in downtown restaurants & come here later for a sweet treat while strolling on the waterfront. My kids ordered the Oreo covered candy apple & chocolate caramel apple. Both were delicious, but I preferred the chocolate caramel one. The great thing was they offered to cut the apple into wedges so it was easy to eat & share. We also bought assorted truffles with one of them being a sugar free variety, which was just as delicious. I wasn't impressed by their chocolate truffles. We got 6 different flavors and I wasn't satisfied with any of them. They are very overpriced. The only thing I would come back here for was an apple.
