I've eaten here a number of times. The food and service is normally really great as well. To night was a bad night. We had a birthday party of 28. I ordered the chicken liver dinner. Which came out very, very, dry and crunchy. If it weren't for the brown gravy to help, I don't think I would have eaten them. I would have reorder them, but the server seem to be over tasked as it was. The drink's didn't get refilled unless we got up and asked someone. I tried to flag down a server from the other table. She ignored me twice. But I guess I was just the unlucky one tonight. Every one else's food was great. It was only the refilling of the drink's for some of them. I will eat there again though. OMG.... We have been looking for a place to get good down home country cooking forever. Well I can say that we need look no more. We ordered the country fried steak (X3) and the fried chicken livers. For sides we had mustard greens, mashed potatoes, fried Okra, green beans, and the "TO DIE FOR" sweet potato casserole. We also had the corn bread with all of the orders. This place is awesome! I love it. It's a large room and very cozy and comfortable. I love the shade of blue. It reminds me of maybe a fellowship hall at church, but in a good way. There's a band set up on stage. I'm curious to see how the night life goes over. It just seems too churchy to be a hang out/drinking place. Do they even sell alcohol? It just didn't seem like that kind of place. Anyway, I was there for lunch. The menu was quite large, but I went straight for the Tuesday offerings. The fried pork chop was awesome! Mac&cheese is a good way to judge a place like this. It was excellent! Just in case it wasn't, and just in case they skimp on food, I ordered an additional side to the normal two. Fried okra was the normal frozen ones everyone sells. Good, but not the ones grandma used to make. Mashed potatoes were great. All the food was piping hot and it came out quick! Serving sizes were adequate and I struggled to finish the extra side. Best of all was the price. At first she told me $9.80 but I reminded Beth (my server) of the additional side. That brought my total after tax to under $12! I reminded Beth about my tea and she said its included! Great place, great food, great price! read more

This restaurant came highly recommended. And it didn't disappoint! The food was amazing! My father and I both really enjoyed our meals. He got the fried shrimp and okra while I got the fried catfish, hush puppies and lima beans. It was all 10/10 except the lima beans which lacked in seasoning. Besides that, everything was truly amazing. The service was great as well. There were two young girls running the register but they were SO kind, professional and diligent. We had a bump in our order and one of them even brought our food out to the car. Thats top notch service right now. The only downside is that this place drives a certain type of crowd. I am a Black woman and I dont know how comfortable id feel sitting down and dining, soley based on all of the evil stares I got just while placing my takeout order. This uncomfortable environment, which is created by the customers not the establishment, is why I give it four stars. Maybe they could implement a non-discriminatory policy or something of the sorts? I thought I would try the turkey and dressing they have on their lunch menu on Fridays. Boy was I disappointed! It did not taste like dressing. No flavor. I don't think it had any seasoning in it! It did have sliced turkey and was covered in gravy. I got the creamed corn and lima beans which were great. Seasoned perfectly! I have always loved eating at Sweetpeas Table but was very disappointed with their dressing today. Don't think I'll be partaking of their Friday dressing any more!! read more

Excellent down home atmosphere. First time visiting and Roy and Amy made us feel at home. The portion sizes are great. The food quality tastes like it's right out your family kitchen. We dined on a Thursday and was able to catch the live band and watch the dancing. Was told live music on Thursday and Friday's. Don't go here with a large group. Service was poor - server could have used a little help with our table of 20. Food was overcooked and received cold. They advertise the best burgers in town, but mine was so dry, overcooked and burned on the outside that it wasn't fit to eat. Staff was not very polite and acted like they did not want our business. Enjoyed the band, but they were a little too loud to have table conversation. All in all, I probably will not return. read more

I took my southern parents here for lunch on a Saturday after the "Grandma's Kitchen" reviews stated by other Yelpers. I figured this place would be right up their alley--and I was CORRECT!! They plowed thru everything on the table :D The onion rings are in a batter that is light, crispy, and just awesome! The exceptional items I tried were yams and cream-style corn. This is NOT your typical cream-style flavor! It was so creamy and delicious. I seriously need the recipe!! The catfish was really good as well. Service was prompt. The waitress was knowledgable about the menu & kept our drinks filled. I didn't visit the loo, so I have no idea about the condition of that area. Woulda given 5 stars but, as luck would have it, we got the worst waitress in the house. Forgot our appetizer. Had to beg for more tea (a stickler with me) and the check. Took all 5 of our adult kids, their wives and their kids here to East recently. 22 people is many times seen as a bad thing when it comes to restaurants unless it's a fast food joint. But SweetPea's was wonderful! Great home cooked styled meals for the adults and a great menu for the kids. The live music was so good and fun! We noticed right away that little girls were dancing with daddies and young men dancing with their grannies. What a wonderful truly family friendly place! We didn't notice any children unattended ,unruly or loud! Good Southern parenting in action. Ha. The fried catfish fillets were so very good as were the hush puppies. My husband got the all-vegetable plate and he was in heaven! We have gone back twice (just the two of us) since this big family outing. The food and service were great each time! read more

Pros- Good selection of southern fixins, hush puppies and fried green tomatoes are excellent. It's clean and not pricey. The food is served quickly. Cons- because it's an open room type restaurant it's quite loud and everything echoes, the majority staff definitely aren't warm and friendly. Oh my goodness!!!! I am from south Louisiana and I have to say the shrimp po-boy I had was so very delicious. I ordered onion rings,(which are huge) with it so I was to full to eat the whole po-boy. I brought the other half home and after warming it up in the oven it was just as delicious as before. My family went to eat here back before Covid started. I had ordered grilled chicken and 2 vegetables. My meal was the last to come out out of 6 people. When I cut into my chicken it was raw inside, very pink and still had a little blood in it. I informed the waitress, she asked if I want another or something else, I declined. I went ahead and ate the vegetables. When we went to check out the owner was sitting at a table behind the register with his grandchild running all over the place. I talked with him about my meal, he said the waitress had informed him about my raw chicken. I asked him should I be expected to pay for my meal, he said well yea you ate the vegetables. I could not believe that he would not take some amount off for chicken I could not even eat. I will never step foot in this place again. read more

I got fried chicken here and green beans and fried green tomatoes. My wife liked the fried green tomatoes and the mustard sauce or whatever it was well enough, and the fried chicken thigh was absolutely the most beautiful piece of fried chicken I'd ever seen. That's not even sarcasm, literally it looked like it came out of a magazine, or a cooking show or something. It was a gorgeous bit of food and plated beautifully. It wasn't as good as it looked, but the chicken was alright. But for some reason I can't understand, the green beans were loaded with pimentos, which where I come from would be considered sacrilege. Paradoxially, they didn't forewarn on the menu that the green beans have pimentos, either; just caveat emptor, enjoy your unpleasantly mint-flavored beans of despair. My wife assured me that no, pimentos in green beans is not just a weird southern thing I'd managed to avoid, and that she'd never heard of that either. The server was pleasant and the chicken wasn't bad (not great, but very pretty and not bad), and my wife was really into the fried green tomatoes, but I don't think we'll be back. read more

We arrived around 5:30 for dinner. We were promptly seated but were told that they were out of high chairs. Our server offered a booster seat for a small toddler. Another server went and got us high chair even though they were "out". We placed our order and waited for over 1 hour and 45 minutes on food. The other servers tried to serve us food for other parties because they knew we had been there longer than anyone in the restaurant. Parties that arrived after us were leaving after finishing their food. Our server acknowledged they knew we hadn't received our food twice. We did get one refill of warm tea with no ice and water until the pitcher ran out.....the final glass was filled half way. She then took a break at the hostess desk with her feet propped up. Finally she came out and offered us the option of a basket of hush puppies or we could just leave. We are now eating Mexican. There was shouting in the kitchen and sounds of things either being thrown or dropped. All in all very bad experience. read more

The environment is sort of like eating at your friend's great-aunt's house after service on Sunday. Everything was very fresh, perfectly seasoned and the portions were not too large nor too small. The green tomatoes were my favorite. The slices are more like slabs, which I prefer over the wafer-thin discs some places serve. I love to order their lunch special of the day for my lunch during work. Their creamed corn and mashed potatoes are so good! You can't go wrong with any of the food there. The only disappointment is that there always seems to be some small problem when I come to pick up my order. (Wrong drink, wrong sides, no cornbread, just little quality control kind of stuff that could easily be fixed.) And the person who hands me my order will usually turn on her heels and run off to do something else as I'm checking my order at the counter. When I see that something is incorrect with my order, it usually takes me about 10 minutes (no exaggeration) to either find her again or find a server that isn't acting like she can't be bothered. Overall, the food is delicious, the service is mediocre, and the price is right! read more

First of all it was very annoying that they wouldn't let us make a reservation for 10 people after my friend's girl's first communion, but they encourage us to go that day and wait just enough time to get two tables ready for us. Well, it didn't came true, they made us wait for about 20 min just to end up with two separate tables, one with 4 extra chairs... what?! Ok, so the waiter was really, really nice, and then the PLUS and only great thing about this experience, they have live music, not only that, this two kids are amazing!!! they can sing, they can play the guitar, banjo and violin, they are very talented. Now, back to the not so great part of the experience. They took our order soon enough, I think we made it very simple because the 4 kids had cheeseburgers, the adults plates where simple too, nothing that would take lots of time. The appetizers came about 20 minutes after we ordered, and our food about 45 minutes total after ordering. The food has good flavors, but they are not exceptionally good. One thing, I would definitely stay away from their sweet potato fries, they add sugar to them, not good flavor and really bad for your health (yes, worse after all that fat this comfort food has packed already). I'm not saying I won't be coming back, because maybe I will, my friends like this place and I love hanging out with them, but I would probably won't come on my own or bring my family anytime soon. read more
