I love this place! Atmosphere is good, service is always quick and friendly, the owner is so sweet and kind and accommodating and has great ideas for the place! The food is really delicious and different from anything you'd get most other places in town, and they have more then just desserts. We just stopped in at sweet spot for an after dinner gelato. After having broken my leg and immobile (walker and wheelchair) I was appalled to find they are not accessible. Curbs all around. Yes, I know it's called the Sweet Spot, but does everything have to be SO sugary sweet? Whatever happened to lightly sweet? All the cupcakes have a sweet filling and lots of sugary frosting. I even tried one of their "savory" pastries, a Danish thing with a filling of jalapeno, carmelized onions and bacon, kind of dark brown. Sounds great, but it was sweet! Carmelized onions do not need sugar added to them. I will get around to trying some of their other savory pastries some time, but I am so tired of so much sugar being put in all our food. Preying on and supporting the American sugar addiction! I have had cupcakes and mousse that were sweet, but not so overwhelmingly sweet that you can hardly taste anything else. On one hand, this is one of my favorite spots in Redding based on the fun atmosphere and good food. On the other hand, the staff are freaking stupid. Case in point. Me: "I'll have the steak and egg sandwich." Staff member (looking back at the menu board): "do we have that"? It's not like the menu here is that large. Then, when you do order food they never know how to ring it up. And don't even think about asking for something like 'no tomato', because that'll just confuse the living heck out of them. It was okay. $8+ was a bit pricey for a brownie cup and small hot chocolate. I wouldn't so much have minded if the quality was there. The hot chocolate was good, but the brownie? Meh. I get that I came in pretty late at night, but it was sort of dry and crusty around the edges (and not in the good brownie way either, more like it had been sitting too long). If they're gonna be open that late, they need to either stop offering their baked goods at a time when quality can't be had any longer, or prepare some items later in the day. I was disappointed. I've had very good treats here before, but I think with all the bells and whistles in their shop, they're stretching themselves a bit thin. Especially later at night. I hardly ever post on yelp, but writing this I am sadly disappointed with Sweet Spots service. I have been a customer for years since their very first opening, and up until tonight I was refused water. I was informed that I had to purchase a bottle of water, however, the woman adjacent from us was allowed a cup of water because she bought beer and I only bought ice cream. I asked if I could use their small water cups they had on a table near the front door and he said we are only selling water bottles at this time. Too charge a customer for just a small glass of water or even a cup which I would be happy to purchase for the .25 cent water cup charge is absurd. I have health issues in which I have to take my pills at night with water and to have the owner whispering to the employee to tell me he can only offer me a water bottle completely turned me off to ever come here again. You lost a loyal customer over water. You should consider what's important to charge customers for. Great food, great ice cream, but disappointing service. Highly priced. A small jar of cheesecake is 6$ and you actually get way less than the equivalent of a slice anywhere else. I paid 4$ for a cookie. Granted it was in bar form but still a 4$ cookie!!! I have been a fan of Sweetspot's cupcakes ever since they opened. The old location was perfect and I never had a bad experience! However today's visit was definitely my last. We arrived a little after noon, and I ordered a vanilla frozen yogurt, strawberry guava gelato and a pepperoni flatbread pizza. The gelato was the only thing that was edible. The frozen yogurt, which in the past tasted like perfectly tangy, icy yogurty goodness, now tastes like artificial canned vanilla frosting run through an ice cream machine. Cloying with a chemical aftertaste. The flatbread pizza was on par with something from a grocery store freezer case. Worse still was the tortilla soup my sister ordered, which arrived barely lukewarm. She brought it back to the counter and asked for it to be reheated. Two minutes later it came back out exactly the same temperature. In my opinion, soup should be served hot, with visible steam. The girls working were apologetic and replaced it with a blueberry frozen yogurt instead. On top of the sub-par products, the place is just dirty. Surfaces are grimy, including a toy vending machine that was so covered in weeks worth of grime and fingerprints I was looking around for the windex myself. As we left, there a customer seated at one of the outdoor tables (literally less than 15 feet from the front door) who was having her cigarette lit by an employee using the restaurant's butane torch. We could have not been more disappointed. Before they moved we enjoyed going to this establishment regularly. They had good fresh cupcakes with a great assortment. Since they have moved I have been there twice both have been bad experiences. The first visit we went in to get some cupcakes but they didn't have any. We were told we were too early and they would Have some later. Really? Maybe you should make them before the door opens. We left disappointed. Then today we went there. They had an extremely limited amount of cupcakes ( 3 types one with chocolate or vanilla cake ). I asked about that and they said they do fresh everyday and only make a few types on certain days. So we had only the ones above to choose from so we picked two of them to take with us. Omg. Well maybe the frosting was fresh but the cupcakes were not. If they were then shame on them. They were sooo dried out. Tasted like two old covered with fresh frosting to hide the taste. Anyhow we will never go back. A shame really considering before they moved we enjoyed going there but now with only 4 types to choose from and to have them taste like left overs, takes this place off our list. I personally wouldn't agree with the one $ sign. It's pretty pricy for the portion and the quality they give you. Gelato is good but I've definitely had better. The pastries are pretty small as well. They also have a pretty small space to stay and talk which means it could get crowded and louder faster if you want to sit down and meet with your friends. Service is always great at Sweetspot, I just wish the cupcakes were as consistent as the staff. There are several locations in Redding where a person can get a good cupcake but Sweetspot was my favorite, I say was because now it feels like I have to cross my fingers and hope I get what I actually ordered! My family prefers the cupcakes with frosting in the middle, or no filling at all. We are not big fans of ganache and I do not like caramel filling. It is upsetting to spend $40 on cupcakes because I am told it has frosting filling but when I get home I find every cupcake in the box is filled with their caramel. It got to the point that I restricted my order to their cookies and cream cupcake. Unfortunately the last two times I ordered, even though I was told by staff the cupcake had frosting filling, it was once again their liquid caramel filling. As much as I like Sweetspot, I can't afford to throw away money. It would be great if there was a consistent menu, something that showed exactly what cupcakes are expected for the entire week. It would also be WONDERFUL if that menu explained the cupcake, including what type of filling to expect. Until there is some effort to guarantee consistency I will sadly not be returning to this store. read more

If I could give less than 1 star I would. We came here to schedule a cake tasting, it must be scheduled with our choice of flavors a week in advance. They have a $500 minimum. After standing around for 5 minutes with no service they found someone to help us. They told us they usually only do it in the mid-afternoon so they have time to make our cake and their store cupcakes. Why do we need our choices a week in advance then? But she said she would ask someone else because she didn't know for sure. Then we asked if we could pay extra to choose 6 flavors instead of their regular 4 limit per tasting. She didn't know that either so she went to ask her coworker. He didn't know either. So she had to ask her manager but we had to wait 10 minutes for her to get off break. She came back and said we can only have 4 flavors and we can only do the tasting after 2pm. For a $500 minimum purchase, a paid tasting and this being for our wedding, let us choose whatever flavors we want! And prepare yourselves for a tasting scheduled a week in advance! This place is a mess with the worst customer service. read more
