The trails wind alongside beautiful rushing rapids, through shaded forests, and lead to the fascinating ruins of the historic New Manchester Mill, which dates back to the Civil War era. citeturn0search0turn0search2 The Red Trail is especially popular and provides stunning creek views with a relatively easy-to-moderate hike, while longer trails offer more of a challenge for experienced hikers. The sound of the water, rocky landscapes, and peaceful surroundings make it easy to forget you're only minutes from Atlanta. excellent destination for a day of hiking, picnicking, and making memories with friends. Con: Parking fees are $10 (gone are the $5 day) Also, the way you pay is...via link and it can be tricky & time consuming. You can go park anywhere in the park once you pay...you don't have to pay 2nd time.

Initially we parked in the wrong lot but that worked in our favor (where the bait and tackle shop is). There were lots of families out having picnics and fishing. We did a 1-mile loop in the area and were able to see the yurts. NOTED . Beautiful sites to take in before we ventured to the main lots with the visitor's center. Not only are the trails well marked, but there is ample parking across multiple lots. The attendant at the gate entrance was so kind, welcoming and JOYful! We ventured out on the red trail and it was gorgeous. To my surprise, the trail was full today. It seems that Sweetwater is a populated date spot!!! We saw folks of all ages out with picnic baskets, journals, coloring books, bathing suits ... it was AMAZING! We hiked to the end of the red trail and back, venturing off trail to be clear to the River only once. By far, this was one of my favorite hikes and definitely a place I'll revisit to explore some of the other trails.

To my understanding, this park connects to another one, but we didn't check the other side out. It seemed to be well maintained overall. The bathrooms were clean and kept up, the park and pavilions were in good condition overall, and there was no major construction or anything going on which was nice. Someone was setting up for a birthday party or function of some sort, so we left a little earlier than planned, but you could definitely spend a decent amount of time here and just relax and enjoy the quiet. There are views of the river over the bridge and a bunch of different trails one could take. My clients enjoyed the little free library that many of the parks around here have. It's to the left, right off the main parking lot when you drive in. We borrowed a few books and now we can return some one day to this location and others. Overall, everyone had a great time and we would definitely come back here for book club or just to walk around in the fresh air again.

The grass and area are very well taken care of. When I went, the grass was low and I didn't see one single piece of trash anywhere. The trail was great and expanded into other areas I wasn't so sure about. All in all it's a clean and safe park that I would highly recommend and go to more.

The other dog owners are usually very nice and monitor their dogs. I have not had any issues. Sometimes, they have no dog bags available to clean up after your dogs when they relieve themselves, so I tend to bring a few of my own just in case. The dog park is behind the animal shelter near the skate park and not on the side where the recreational center is located. I like that the gates are easy to access but also close together and divided by small dog and large dog areas. If you are alone or if you come when it is less dogs out, the options available make it easier to keep the dogs safe or separated if needed. Deer Lick Park also offers recreational activities. We participated in basketball and it was nice to see this facility in action for group pictures and games. The staff is friendly and responsive and this park offers a nice place for exercise and community engagement. I also remember attending a Zumba party here many years ago. Overall, this is a nice park.

It's a good sized dog park but as you can see it's mostly just flat open field with a few trees tucked away up in a corner. The problem with that is that it gets extremely muddy when it rains except up where the trees are because the leaves form a very natural barrier. But we wouldn't want that now would we. Both parks have a poop bag dispenser and trash can as well as an access spot for water. Nice double-gated concrete entry area with a bench on that as well as both parts have a couple benches up in the trees. But they have no shade or shelter structure? You have to park a little distance away and it is a bit of a walk uphill but, well, I probably personally wouldn't make it again for the dog park

I will be honest, this will not be a good dog park for everyone because... The Pro's: *Plenty of space for the dogs to run and get their zoomies out. *Trash cans, Benches for seating, and A doggy water fountain to drink from are available. *Very clean for the most part. You're not stepping over a bunch of poop piles pet parents didn't get up! The Con's: *There's no "Small dog/Large dog" separation. So if your tiny dogs can't hang with the big dogs, this won't be a great place to come! *There were a TON of dogs... when we visited there were at least 20-30 dogs easily. So if you're dog doesn't like being in a big "dog crowd" this won't be a great place for you in the peak times... you may have to beat the crowd by coming early or something but after noon 5ish was super crowded. *There are some imperfections in the landscaping. There are areas where there's a little rocky and just watching the dogs run I was really holding my breath that none of them pulled anything, slid, or stepped too hard on a rock of some sort! It could get ugly real quick! So if the owners out there please patch the area by the sitting stone wall up with grass. Other than those few things it was a great time. The entire park is beautifully kept and a great addition to Smyrna area! We will be back!

There are fairly large patches of dirt/mud where the seated areas (3 benches in the park) are. You can see areas where they have tried putting fake grass down to spark growth but it may take a while (I'm not an expert on this). I can see where this can be muddy if you go after it rained so beware of that. They do have a water fountain and it appears as if other owners have left water bowls there for regular visitors. Some of the owners know each other so that's always a plus which has a true dog lover 'community' feel to it. Deducted a star because the mosquitos were RAMPANT!! (Not sure if anything can be done but sheesh!) the other star was for the fake grass patches. Decent dog park with potential...

So I used my GPS to pin point the address from inside the park. First things first. There are NO PETS ALLOWED! Yeah you heard me. Fido can not get out of your vehicle at this location. Also, I should probably mention that if you are coming from Chapel Hill Road end of this street then you will be able to enter the park just fine. If you are coming from, say S. Fulton Parkway, then you will need to go down the road and turn around and come back up to the park. The same as exiting. You can NOT TURN LEFT as you leave this location. When you first enter the park you must travel down a long gravel road at 10 MPH. It may be a mile or two down this road and then you get to the park booth. Over towards the left if where most people are parked. Then to the right of that booth is a directory for persons with boats, persons looking for the Pavilion or those that are wanting to fish from the Fishing pier.
